Unbeta’d, all mistakes and lousy grammar are mine. Ccino
Also, I am sorry if my descriptions of Finland differ from any you know to be correct, and of my usage of the Finish language. The grammar and nouns etc are most likely very wrong. But hey, I’m doing my best and this is just a story. I’m taking what little I know and twisted it to suit my purposes. Any Finish nationals out there, please accept my apologies in advance. Most references to Finnish myth and lore are taken from Wikipedia.
Chapter 81
There again, she needed to learn her past, find her roots so to speak. There might also be information in this …monolithic castle that would help them in the search for the missing Deatheaters. They were still underground at the moment and the Order had no leads to follow. The ministry was convinced a that all was well with the world and refused to waste resources trying to find what were in their opinion, non existent terrorist groups.
He produced a small silver knife from his pocket. The same knife he used for everything in his work. It was keenly sharp and could cut the finest silk without a single snag.
Lou’s eyes went wide and filled with tears when she realised what he intended to do. “No Severus please. I don’t want to do this.”
“You must Lou. It is necessary for more reasons than you know. I will explain later, but for now you must trust my decision.”
Lou eyed the knife nervously, the blade glinting evilly in the sunlight. “No. Anyway it’s not your decision to make. It’s my blood we’re talking about here, not yours and I don’t want to give it to a b …house.” She stomped down the steps and jumped into the carriage, her arms folded and s scowl on her face.
Severus climbed in after her. “Lou, you do not realise how important this could be, what we might find in there.”
“I don’t care what’s in there Severus, I’m not gonna do it. I’m fed up and I want to go home. Wherever that is. I don’t know and I don’t care any more, so long as it’s not here.”
“You are behaving like a spoiled brat, do you know that?”
“Me? I’m …fine, so I’m a spoiled brat. I’m still not gonna do it. So there.”
Severus decided to try another tactic, the truth. “Lou, I assume Miss Granger has returned home for the holidays.”
“Yeah, she’s gone to Suvi’s for a bit and then to her mum and dads. Why?”
He explained about the still missing Deatheaters, the lack of cooperation from the Ministry and the fact they had no way of finding them. “On top of that, there have been sporadic attacks on the families of muggleborns and halfbloods. As well as those considered blood traitors. Miss Granger and her family are at risk Lou, along with many others you know. Are you willing to leave this place, begrudge this bloodlet, and loose us the one hope we have to find out where they might be hiding?”
He was tempted to ask if she was content to risk the lives of her friends and their families but decided against it. Even he could not be so cruel as to let her blame herself for the deaths of others.
Lou managed to do that for herself though. She was about to protest again when he mentioned Hermione. Then she remembered how Voldemort had all those families killed when he was looking for her. What if the Deatheaters attacked Hermione’s parents? What if Hermione was with them at the time? Then there was Harry, and all the other muggleborns at Hogwarts. The Weasleys too, she loved the Weasleys and would hate for something to happen to them.
“Okay I’ll do it.” She said quietly. “You know I hate being a Nilsen.”
They went back to the steps and Severus removed his knife again.
Lou screwed her eyes shut and held out her hands palms up. “Just don’t …hurt me too much okay.”
Ervast and Severus both took hold of a wrist and Severus drew the blade sharply across one open palm. She let out a high whimper and he turned to cut the other palm quickly before she backed out.
“OH FUCKFUCKFUCK.” She cried, not caring about the consequences. “It bloody well hurts.”
Neither man raised an eyebrow at her language as Paa led her to the door and pressed her bloodied palms against the door, holding them there for what felt like hours to Lou, but was in fact only a minute.
Paa removed Lou’s hands from the door and swept his own hand across each of her, healing the wounds instantly and taking away the pain.
“It is done miss, you did well and the blood has gone. Look.”
Lou opened one eye in the direction of the door and saw it was clean. She then checked her hands and they too were clean, though she still tucked them under her arm protectively.
“Severus that hurt like hell. What’s it gonna be like on my feet? I need a few minutes, I don’t think I can do it yet.” Lou felt sick, the memory of the blade slicing through the tender flesh of her palms still fresh in her mind and the thought of the knife doing the same to the soles of her feet made it worse.
Severus was not particularly enjoying the ritual either and privately cursed the Nilsen’s for having such a cruel and uncivilized rite of passage into their home. He loved his wife and hurting her was the last thing he wished to do.
He accio’d a phial from his trunk and offered it to Lou. “Here, this will restore you a little. It is a blood replenishing potion, nothing more.”
Lou swallowed it down and her initial dizziness left her. “I still feel sick.” She grumbled sulkily.
“It will pass, I promise you. Are you ready for the final letting?” He asked gently.
“No, but there again I never will be so lets get it over with before I change my mind completely. Argh, I must be mad to do this.”
Lou took her boots and socks off and Severus lifted her from the carriage and carried her over to the steps. She sat on the top one and looked at him with nothing more than panic in her eyes when he and Ervast knelt and each took hold of her ankles.
“Wait, wait. Give me a second, I need to breathe or something before you do it. Please.” She cried.
A quick look at Ervast and Severus ran a finger down the sole of her foot.
She jumped and let out a squeal. “You tickled me.”
Ervast copied at the other side and she jumped again.
“Stoppit. I don’t like it.”
Severus tickled her again and Ervast joined in until she was on her back laughing hysterically. She laughed so hard she did not immediately feel the pain in her right foot. Just as she realised what Severus had done a pain like red hot fire and up the sole of her left foot and she screamed, tears of laughter becoming tears of pain.
She struggled as they helped her to her feet, fighting them and lashing out.
“Put me down, I can’t stand put me down.” She yelled at them.
“Lou you must, you have to cross the threshold.” Severus demanded. He knew she would not listen if he tried to cajole her.
Kreatcher quickly picked up handfuls of snow and started spreading it over the threshold and into the hall. The other elves quickly caught on and helped him, knowing the freezing snow would numb her feet and help her walk.
“Bastards.” She screamed as the two wizards lifted her to stand on the snow covered step, but they held her there until she realised the cold was easing the pain and her breathing became less erratic.
“Do not look down.” Severus told her, noticing the spreading red stain at their feet. “Keep your gaze up and forward until you are inside.”
They slowly let go of her and she teetered for a moment then took a step. Then another and another and another before shimmering and seeming to sink into the step itself. Then she rose up in a glorious halo of light, and promptly fell to her hands and knees.
Paa ran inside and healed her feet, just as he healed her hands. “No you can ask the gentlemen inside.” He told her. “Like at the gate.”
“I’ve a good mind to leave them out there. Why should they get away with just walking in here when I had to do that?”
“Only those you wish to have free access will be required to give the blood.”
“Severus will want free access.” Lou told him slyly.
Severus and Ervast stared in wonder until she fell.
“Well that was a bit of an anti climax.” Severus said sarcastically as he watched her conversing with the blue elf and wondering what they were talking about.
Kreatcher entered the hall with Lou’s socks and boots while Paa stepped outside to speak with Severus.
Lou invited Mr Ervast to come in and he did.
Severus however was glaring alternately between Paa and Lou. “I do not believe you. It is utterly ridiculous.”
“No Sir, Is necessary. The Miss wishes you to have free access to the Maatila so you must do this.” Paa told him.
Severus harrumphed and sat down to take off his boots and socks, a murderous look in his eyes.
“Kreach, will you clean up that snow please, it looks horrible.” Lou asked as Severus held her gaze malevolently.
The Potion Masters eyebrows lifted when Kreatcher did as commanded. ‘Little bitch.’ He thought, pulling out the knife yet again.
Peg however replaced the snow with fresh, along with the help of the other elves and Severus was appeased slightly. He sliced each of his feet, wincing at the pain then stood on the doorstep waiting for her to invite him in.
Lou did and Severus stepped inside. He did not descend into the step as Lou had, but he did have a faint glimmer of light around him as he stepped through.
Paa was there instantly to heal his wounds when he sat down on the floor.
“Was that really necessary?” He ground out at Lou.
“Apparently so. At least you only had to do the feet part and you know how much it hurts now too. I’m sick of this blood thing Severus. I don’t care what happens in future, my bloods staying inside me.”
“Is that why you had me do this, so I would feel pain?” He asked incredulously.
“Partly, and so you don’t have to be invited back in every time you step outside. Unlike you at Prince Manor Severus, I don’t want to control your every movement. Now your free to come and go as you please.” She told him angrily before following Kreatcher up a wide, curving staircase.
Severus watched her go and turned to Ervast. “Rudolf, shall we take tea before I deal with my errant wife?”
Rudolf smiled and accepted. It was clear the couple were in love, but Lou was a feisty little thing and he knew Severus must have his hands full with her.
“You know I envy you Severus.” Rudolf said between bites of his sandwich.
“Oh, and why is that?”
“Lou. I have never encountered anyone so spirited as she. It must make for an interesting relationship. I truly was concerned that Karkias had at first taken away her spirit. Those of royal blood are expected to behave with the utmost decorum at all times. It seems I was wrong.”
Severus sighed. “It is true Rudolf, I too thought at first they had got to her, taken away that spark. However events this evening have proven differently. Though at times her energetic character is somewhat exhausting and, dare I say it, exasperating at times, it is one of the things that first endeared her to me.”
Once Ervast had left, Severus called for Kreatcher to show him the way to the master bedroom. “I assume that is where she is.” he said.
“Yes Sir, and her mood is being better since Peg is bringing Laina to sees her.”
Severus was never more grateful to and elf as he was at that moment. Even if it was Kreatcher.
Regardless though of how much he loved Lou and her sometimes deviant personality, right now he had more pressing things on his mind. Or should he say in his trousers. Punishment could wait, everything could wait, for now he just wanted to be inside his wife.
The first thing he noticed when he walked through the door was that he was in a large, impressive sitting room. It was massive, several sofas arranged in groups of twos and threes around long or oval tables. Two large desks, an armoire, Shelves full of books, a glass cabinet full of wands and a dining table and four chairs.
“You finally decided to come up then?” Lou asked from her seat at the table.
“Cheeky chit. Someone needed to converse with our guest, or had you conveniently forgotten the presence of Rudolf Ervast?”
Lou brought a hand to her mouth in horror. “Oh crikey, yes I did. Was he upset that I didn’t come down?”
“Fortunately for you he is an amenable fellow, so no, he was not. I however, am not so agreeable. We have many this to discuss and even more to discover. Tonight though I have other things in mind. Mainly me inside of you.”
Lou felt a shiver down her spine at his last comment, but she was hungry and had only just started her supper. “I’d like that too Severus, but I wont have the energy if I don’t eat first.”
“What are you eating?” he asked, eyeing the bowl on the table and the plate in front of her.
“Meatballs.” She answered, placing one between her teeth and biting down on it with a mischievous gleam in her eyes.
He winced slightly at the sight but sat down next to her. Grabbing a plate he took some salad and several of the meatballs and a good scoop of the sauce they sat in.
They were quiet as they ate, enjoying the Scandinavian delicacy and salad along with the ice cold glasses of milk.
When they finished, a goblet of brandy and a coffee appeared in front of Severus, a pot of tea for Lou.
“Great, my house and I get a cuppa while you get the brandy.” She complained.
He smirked at her indignation as he swirled the amber liquid round the glass before taking a good sniff at it and drinking. “And that is how it will be for quite a while Lou. As your husband, it is my duty, as well as my right to decide what is best for you. And that includes denying you any alcoholic beverages.”
Lou humphed but didn’t argue. She didn’t even like brandy so wasn’t all that bothered. It was more the principle of the thing as far as she was concerned. Besides, right now she wanted a shower and bed, with or without Severus. She was completely worn out.
Severus let her go, enjoying the warmth from the brandy and simply relaxing as he let his mind wander over what he wanted to do to Lou once they were in bed. He did not care how tired she was, he would have her tonight. A steady pulsing throb began in his loins, bringing a slow smile to his face and a dark desire to take his fill of his wife.
Severus smacked his lips after draining the glass, thinking how much better Lou would taste then the finest of brandies as he made his way to the bedroom.
He could hear the water running as he undressed. His clothes hung neatly on the formed rack set near the wall specifically for that purpose and he slid beneath the thick, white, feather eiderdown in the massive bed that graced the centre of the room. It was almost twice the size of any king sized bed he’d ever seen, yet was not out of proportion to the size of the room. Decorated in shades of cream, white and gold, the soft lighting giving the room a subtle, mellow feel. The mattress was firm with a hint of yield, a sensation of losing oneself in a cloud of softness. The bed had no hangings, instead a rosette of cream and white striped silk was attached to the ceiling above, holding long swatches of the same material that flowed in pleats to the floor, surrounding the head and foot of the bed. The pillows were large and billowy and Severus could only liken it to laying in a puff of clouds. Mirrors with a gold hue covered the whole of the wall opposite, housing storage to hang robes and drawers, shelves and slide out compartments to hold underwear, shoes, boots and the like. Two dressers, one distinctly feminine, the other of a more masculine mien stood under each of the two large windows. Cabinets stood at either side of the bead, each with a cone shaped attachment on the side to hold a wand. Severus thought this was very ingenious, as well as convenient.
The water stopped running and his attention was drawn to the partly open door on the right.
The mood of the room making him feel uncharacteristically romantic, Severus’ jaw dropped when Lou walked in wearing blue flannel pyjamas printed with little yellow ducks.
“Hi. You tired too?” She asked, rubbing her hair with a towel.
“Not particularly.” He griped, sitting up to scowl, folding his arms across his chest as he glared at her. “What is with the ducks? He growled.
“What ducks? Oh these, I found them in the drawer and thought they were cute. Don’t you like them?” Lou sat at the dresser to brush her hair, now down well past her shoulders, and then applied a drying charm with her wand.
“They are fine if you are six years old. Whereas you are a married woman and you have just caused my libido to take a nosedive.”
She giggled as she climbed into bed. “Well they’re not stuck to me.”
“They may as well be.” He complained. “How am I to even think of you as anything more than a child when you come to bed wearing those?”
Still laughing, Lou got out of bed and walked over to the mirrors. They opened automatically and she began rummaging through a drawer.
Severus saw her pull out something red and silky and his libido instantly started to regain it’s power. He watches as she stripped off the pyjama’s and lifted the red silk, trying to find the hem.
