Ethan was there at once, kneeling beside Harry as he cradled his brother to his chest protectively. "Easy now," came softly when Harry went to snarl at him. "I just want to see how bad it is," he told him as he laid a hand to Roark's forehead.
They waited tensely, watching as Ethan's face grew troubled. "Ethan? What is it?"
"Just what I was afraid of. His shields have collapsed."
"What the fuck happened?" Alexei demanded as he moved to kneel beside Harry. "Here, Harry, let me have him and I'll carry him to the couch. Roan, what's wrong?"
"I don't know for sure, but--" he paused a moment. "His mind is in complete chaos. There's not a single thought I can latch onto," he said as Alexei took the unconscious Roark from Harry, stood, and moved to the couch. "Ethan?"
"Same. He's in emotional and mental distress," he told them with a frown. "He's discovered something...something he had thought may be a possibility, but had discounted for one reason or another."
"Never mind that right now," Severus told him as he weeded his way through them to go to the couch, Sebastien right behind him. "We'll figure out what happened once we've woken him. Payton," he turned his head. "Go make him a cup of tea," he ordered him.
As Alexei lay Roark on the couch, everyone immediately began to converge, until Robin moved to step between them and the couch. "Stop," he barked at them. "Only Harry right now. Let's not crowd around him just yet. Just stand back, let Severus and Sebastien work," he told them as Harry immediately sat beside his brother, reaching at once for his hand.
"He's white as a ghost," he murmured as he looked at Sebastien, who had begun to examine him.
"His pulse is racing, and his heartbeat and blood pressure aren't much better. Whatever it is, it's sent him into a tailspin."
"Knives," Gwydion said, pointing.
"What?" Desmond asked, following his cousin's pointing finger, then frowned. "Now where the hell did those come from? He didn't have them yesterday."
Logan had moved up behind the couch, leaning over the back to pull the one he could get to. "These are Rodolphus's," he said, not as surprised as he thought he should be, returning the blade to its sheath, then moved around to take the nearest chair. "The scrollwork on the blade is exclusive, made especially for him."
"Now why would Roark have one of those Terminator's blades on him?"
"There are actually three," came the sudden whisper, "and because he gave them to me." His eyes blinked open. "Harry?" he asked softly, looking up into his brother's eyes. "You've figured it out too, then?"
A snort of amusement. "Would have been hard not to," he told him, squeezing his hand.
"Then he left you one too?"
A nod. "As if the changes to my belt weren't obvious enough. Idiot man. All he managed to do was give himself away, and when I get my hands on him..." his head tilted as he let the rest drift off.
Roark began to sit up, only for Severus to lay a hand on his shoulder, pressing him back. "Oh no you don't, young man," he told him sternly. "You just stay right where you are for the moment. At least until we get your blood pressure and pulse back to normal."
Payton hurried back into the living area, carrying a steaming mug. "Here you go Sev," he said, handing his brother-in-law the mug, before going to sit on the arm of Logan's chair.
Severus was already reaching for the medical bag that held all of his potions, other meds, and various supplies closer to him. Ethan moved then to take a seat on the couch at his feet. "What happened, Rory?" he asked. "Every single one of your shields came down just as we entered."
"No kidding," was shot back wryly. "I could feel what each and every one of you were feeling, hear what you were thinking. On top of what I was already feeling, it was just too much to handle. I was--"
"Roark, that's enough," Severus said as he pulled a violet crystal vial from his bag. "Ethan, wait a few microns {seconds}, would you? We'll get our answers soon enough. Let's get something in him that will calm him, and blunt enough of that empathy so that he can think clearly."
Pulling the stopper out of the vial, he poured a careful measure into the mug. "Alright, Sebastien, let's get him up so he can drink this."
Sebastien moved to help Roark into a sitting position, then squeezed in beside him, and the arm of the couch. Taking the mug from Severus, to hand to Roark as soon as he had him comfortable against his side.
"Be careful now, that's very hot," he told him.
Roark rolled his eyes as he drank from the mug. "It's steaming, Sebastien, of COURSE, it's going to be hot."
"Oh, oh, he must be feeling a little better, his sarcastic side is coming out to play."
Roark arched a brow at the speaker, drinking deeply again. "I will have you know, Dylan, that I am not normally sarcastic. Unless that is, someone just HAPPENS to be stupid enough to state the obvious," he turned his head to look pointedly at Sebastien.
Sebastien could only chuckle as he watched his drink again, several of the others chuckling themselves. Harry, a smile curving his lips as his brother's color began to return, settled himself beside him.
"Your point is well received, Demon Imp."
Roark lay his head back against the couch, feeling the potion Severus had poured into his tea beginning to take effect, dulling the rough edges around his empathy, his mind finally calm enough to allow him to think clearly.
Harry murmured something into his ear, and Roark turned his head to look at him, nodding, whispering something back which had Harry shaking his head in amazement. "Stupid men," they heard him mutter, raising several brows.
"So, Roark, are you ready to tell us what happened to have your mind being in such chaos?" Ethan asked of him, watching him closely, seeing his eyes had cleared as his mind had settled, reorganizing itself.
The question was greeted by silence. The brothers looked at each other, their eyes meeting...holding. Those present could see the worry, the indecision that had appeared in silver and emerald eyes. What, however, surprised them the most, was the fear, The brothers were afraid of...something.
No, the Durin's watching them thought. They weren't afraid OF something, they were afraid FOR something. "It's your mystery lovers, isn't it? They're both a part of this mess somehow," Colten spoke up, looking from one to the other and seeing alarm flare in them both.
"Rory," Payton said then, for he, too, had seen it. He moved to kneel before them and lay a hand on each of their knees. "Really. It's alright. You can tell us anything. We will NEVER judge, never tell you that you were wrong to do whatever it is you did, but we WILL express concern and worry."
"Pay's right, boys," Greyson moved closer, taking a seat near Severus, his dark blue eyes on both their faces. "No judgment boys, no recriminations., but we won't know how to help you until we know the full story. Tell us what, exactly, is going on?"
"They may have been a mystery to some of you...at least those of you that had left the office with Aiden," Roark said in a soft tone. "Just not to Logan, Kili, and those that had remained behind,"
"Oh HELL!" Ryder suddenly burst out, looking from one to the other, then back at Roark. "You're both sleeping with those damn Terminators!"
