The Grindelwald Legacy
Chapter 82
While Severus argued, cajoled, and downright hollered his protests to the Headmaster, Lucy was quiet, contemplative, and utterly shocked.
No way did she want to be married, not at sixteen. One day maybe, and to someone who loved her, rather than found her more of an irritant than anything else. There were too many things she wanted to do with her life, and being married to a bossy, snappy, bad tempered wizard who tried to make her eat parsnips was not on her list of aspirations. Sure he was sexy as hell, and the best lay she’d ever had, and regardless of what others thought of him, Lucy thought he was quite good looking, in a sinister kind of way. It wasn’t as if they were even madly in love or anything, sure the sexual chemistry was there, and neither wanted to see the other hurt, but most of the time it seemed as though he couldn’t stand her, or anyone for that matter. He wasn’t a people person by any stretch. Lucy wanted to love the man she eventually married, and have him love her. She wanted babies and a house. When she was like, fifty or something.
After spending a good while listening to her gran describe and enlighten her on the various advantages of her current situation, she was now closeted in her room attempting to grasp the concept of it all. “Winky.” She whispered.
“Yes miss Lucy., what can Winky be doing for you?”
“Winky, can you still get into Hogwarts? I have something there I need.”
“Winky can does that. But Winky not pinching what not miss Lucy’s. Is bad to steal.”
“No Winky, I want you to get something that belongs to me. It’s in the locker next to my bed. If I draw a picture so you know where to go, can you get it?”
“Winky not needing drawing miss, Winky knows where the miss sleeps.”
“You do? Oh, right. Well it’s a light blue back pack, you’ve seen me with it before. But it might be a bit heavy for you, and what’s inside is breakable. Oh, and no one must see you. Can you do that?”
Winky smiled at her, then was gone, returning five minutes later with Lucy precious computer, still encased in the backpack.
“Winky you’re a little miracle. Thanks.”
As soon as the elf left, Lucy fired up the machine, gave a brief, but longing look at the desktop icon for veterinary research, then uploaded the information from the folder containing the Grindelwald legacy. She set to drawing out all the relevant information she could find. After searching through the list of books she had on flash, using several different ones and setting the machine to find the relevant information, she came up with … nothing. “Argh! There has to be something that can undo this.” She griped. “Some way of… “ Lucy suddenly remembered the restricted section of the library, the only collection of books she and the Gryffindors had not yet attempted to download. She wondered if gran would allow her to have a couple of days off school, pretend she was too distraught to concentrate, while in truth she would be attempting to gain access to those forbidden books. Then Hermione and Harry’s words came back to her about the danger they held, the demons hidden inside and how some of the books could even suck you into them and no one would know you were there. Would that still happen if they were simply digital copies? Lucy didn’t know, but she was too scared to risk it. This wasn’t something she could do on her own, it was too risky. But who could she ask to help her? Hermione was the only friend she had that could be trusted, but then she would have to tell her what was going on between her and Severus, maybe Hermione wouldn’t want to stay friends if she knew Lucy and the Professor were marri… bound. And when she found out they’d had sex, hell Hermione would most likely go ballistic.
Severus then, he wanted out of this as much as her. No. He’d find out she had all those other books on her computer, maybe even why her homework assignments were so consistent, he’d take it off her and accuse her of cheating. Not that she considered it cheating. Yes she had an unfair advantage over the other students, but if she had to use the library to research all her homework she wouldn’t have time to come home on weekends. Plus she didn’t have the advantage of being taught magic since age eleven like the rest of the students. An hour and twenty frustrated minutes later, Lucy decided the best course of action would be to simply persuade Hermione and the others to help her upload the books because they were thinking of doing it anyway. Unless she could persuade Severus to look in the restricted section himself, but that could take ages, there were almost as many books in there as there were in the rest of the library. Searching manually would take forever,
“Gran, will people have to know, about me and Professor Snape I mean? They wont will they?” Lucy was in the living room, waiting for Winky to return her to Hogwarts. Outside a snow blizzard completely blanked out the windows, giving the room an eerie, silence. “I wont have to live with him will I?”
“I think it unlikely that Severus will want this made public knowledge any more than you do. I suggest you consult with him on your return. I see no reason why anyone else should be informed, other than your Professors of course. Lucy your urges are under control for the moment, but when they return, Severus will have those same urges, with equal intensity. It is a kind of precondition of the legacy that once the bind is absolute, the two of you will be attuned to one another, your emotion’s, urges, etcetera, will be in sync with one another, and those urges will be quite frequent to begin with. Think of this morning, in the kitchen, the pair of you will need to come to some arrangement to gain access to each other when it happens again. I doubt Severus is aware of this, he left before learning all there is to know. You will have to enlighten him, otherwise you may find yourselves in some extremely embarrassing situations. Location and audience will be of little consequence if you do not learn to recognise the signs, and quickly.”
Lucy had a sudden horrendous image of her and Severus, he was taking her from behind over a desk while the rest of the class stood watching from behind their cauldrons. “Whaaaat? Gran how will we know? What signs? I… oh God.”
“I suggest elf’s. One apiece, always at your sides. They are more than able to remain invisible so no one else need know they are present. They are capable of picking up on any change in mental disposition or physical variations you will experience. Again, discuss this with Severus, as your husband he is obliged to hear you out.”
“Right. Oh my God, gran please, don’t call him that.”
“Why not, that is what he is, just as you are now his wife. And send word to Albus I will be in to speak with him during the week.”
Having checked on his Slytherins, marked the pile of homework essays, and ensured his lesson plan for the following week was in order, during which there were a couple of interruptions when he was overwhelmed with determination, followed by doubt, and a disturbing image of him fucking Lucy over a desk during class, Severus once again let his mind fill with thoughts of his predicament.
a) He was married. b) To a student more than twenty years his junior. Not that the age difference really mattered in the wizarding world, magical folk far outstripping their muggle counterparts as far as longevity was concerned. c) He was a Death Eater-cum-spy for the Order of the Phoenix. d) The Dark Lord was most likely going to kill him because of this. e) If not, he would probably not survive this war anyway. f) “Oh Gods.” He moaned, resting his elbows on the desk and burying his face in his hands. f) If his wife thought for… “Merlin, WIFE. How I hate that word.” If Miss Grinelwa… “Hell I cannot even refer to her as Miss anymore.” FFFFF) Why me?” Did she still expect to continue her… extra curricular activities with Zabini, or Malfoy, or any other young wizard come to think of it? Severus growled his displeasure at the thought of her engaging anyone but him from now on.
Lucy hugged her gran, only partially resigned to having to talk with Severus in depth, worrying because of the various feeling of anger, astonishment and resentment she’d felt from him since he left, then took Winky’s hand.
They were at the main entrance in a trice.
“You want Winky should arrange elf escorts miss Lucy? Winky knows best elf’s for job. Some is better than others, Winky cans find right ones.”
“Yes, please Winky, it’s just, Severus can’t know about it yet, at least not until I explain things to him.”
“Winky will makes sure they says nothing till the miss says so.”
Figuring a nip of firewhiskey couldn’t hurt before supper, Severus helped himself to a drop of the fiery, amber nectar and settled in his armchair to relax with a book, determined to set his problems aside for at least the next half hour. When a knock sounded on his door only minutes later he was less than pleased. “If it is not a matter of life or death, then I suggest you put off this interruption on my time, unless of course you are willing to forego the use of your legs for the rest of the year.” he shouted, not bothering to get up.
‘Shit!’ Lucy hesitated before knocking again, she wasn’t exactly expecting a warm welcome, but she did want to be able to walk for the next few weeks. After looking up and down the corridor, making sure no one was about to hear her, she knocked again. “Professor, It’s me, Lucy. I-I’m back and I need to tell you something. It’s important.”
“Dammit.” he grumbled, taking his feet from their resting place on the coffee table and standing. “Come in, if you really must.” He groused.
Stepping through the door, she peered up at him, wondering if he would actually listen to her, or lose his temper like he did at grans.
“Well? I do not have all evening, either say your piece and get out, or leave me in peace period.” he demanded impatiently.
