They all nodded their agreement, and so, slowly they began to tall them, starting with the night that had started it all...the night the Lestrange brothers had first stepped foot in their apartments to issue the first of their warnings and their threats.
NO one spoke, they sat quiet, listening to Harry and Roark talk until finally, they stopped, falling silent to allow the Durins to digest everything they had just shared with them.
Then Roark felt fingers sifting through his dark hair then, and tilting his head back, he looked up at Dylan, who was now standing behind the couch, understanding in his deep, forest green eyes.
"He loves you, you know,' he turned his head to look at Harry, "as Rabastan loves you."
"Well, he says he does," came softly,
"Oh, oh, I'm hearing some doubt there. What, exactly, has made you doubt him, Roark?"
"It's not so much that I doubt him, Cole," he answered him immediately, "it's just..." a pause, then, "I found out something. Something that I had, for a few brief centons {minutes} suspected, but then had discounted as just not possible. There were just too many contradictions, too many inconsistencies."
"What was it, Rory?" Kili asked, looking puzzled. "It's not often that something shocks you as badly as you were when we arrived."
Roark stood, set his now empty mug on the coffee table, then made his way around all the feet and legs back to his desk. Closing the file that still lay open there, he picked it up, as well as the note Rodolphus had written and carried both back to the couch.
First, he handed Kili the file. "Recognize these?" he asked.
Kili looked down, opening the file to look through it, Fili and Logan stood to move to where Kili sat, flipping through the pages. "Of course," he said, looking up. "These are the notes left for us by our informants."
Now Roark handed over the note as, from an inner pocket of his uniform jacket, Harry drew out the note Rabastan had left for him, passing it over. "Compare them," he said, giving his brother a little grin.
It took barely a micron {second}. "RODOLPHUS!!" Fili suddenly gasped, his blond head jerking up, shocked blue eyes looking up in complete shock.
"FUCK!" gasped Logan "Rabastan too!"
"So you mean to tell us that Rodolphus and Rabastan Lestrange, Tom Riddle's left and right hand, his top two Terminators, are actually our INFORMANTS!" Kili's head jerked up.
"That is exactly what we are saying."
"I'm going to KILL them," Severus suddenly growled in exasperation. "For fourteen fucking yahrens {years} they've been here. They've waited....watched...gathered information and hindered Riddle where and when they could without managing to get themselves caught. They were told when the time came for them to begin moving against him, they would know because a Counter-Intelligence team would be sent here to begin their own investigations."
"Kale and Dominic."
A nod. "Yes, Kale and Dominic. They were, however, supposed to wait for some time, until this investigation was turned over to Counter-Intelligence in its entirety before the real move could be made. Which took Kale's death to happen. They had been ordered to reveal themselves ONLY to the team leader, who, at that time was Kale."
"YOU KNEW?!" Roark suddenly exploded. "You KNEW that they were our informants? That they are, in actuality, undercover Colonial Counter-Intelligence Officers?"
He smirked. "Of COURSE, I knew. Why do you think I was sent here with you, OTHER than to attempt to keep the two of you out of trouble? Dacian told me everything of what they had hoped to accomplish by sending the two of them in here when they had. Let me let you all in on a little secret about undercover agents, boys. When an undercover man, or team, is sent into a specific situation, none of you will ever know who they are unless they CHOOSE to reveal themselves, or the job they are sent into is completed, and even THEN, you may never find out who they were. This way they are kept safe, their identities a closely guarded secret, that way if the NEXT case they work is tied in some way to the one they had just finished, no one will be the wiser."
"Fourteen yahren {year}," Aiden breathed. "That is a long time for an undercover team to be left in place. They must have been sent in just after James and Lily Peverell Potter were murdered."
"And so they were. Adama, Roark, and Thorin went to untold lengths to make sure that NO information was ever leaked that Harry and Roark had, indeed, survived their injuries, hiding them away so completely, that when the people Riddle sent in to find any information on the children, there was nothing for them to find. They assumed that the boys HAD indeed been killed, and told him so.
"They KNEW Riddle had killed James and Lily, had tried to kill the then four yahren {year} and fifteen sectar {month} old boys, but nothing could be done, because there was just no proof was found, and what they DID have was all circumstantial at best. Aquaria refused to extradite on what little they had so the decision was made to send in an undercover team."
"Rodolphus and Rabastan Lestrange?"
"Lt. Rodolphus and Sergeant Rabastan Lestrange were undercover specialists, just as I was. They were very good at their jobs, and once they had established a place for themselves in Riddle's organization, they began to move very quickly up the ranks until Riddle took an interest in them personally after they took out several of his rivals, or so it was made to seem anyway."
"Are we to assume those RIVALS are now enjoying the hospitality of the Prison Barge?" Greyson asked with an arched brow.
"You could, but it's not a good idea never to ASSUME anything. Rodolphus and Rabastan were also a part of that platinum mine robbery a few yahen {year} ago, which cemented their places as Riddle's one and two, with Rodolphus taking over the command of all the Terminators. I met with both of them in a secret location to discuss our options, and it was decided that they would not reveal themselves to any of you as to who they were, or what they were doing. Instead, they were to remain as they had been. Staying hidden, working from the shadows, giving what information they could WHEN they could."
Here he stopped and shook his head. "It was all going quite well too, until the four of you decided to throw a spanner into the whole works by being attracted to each other, becoming lovers, and now," he nodded to the notes in Kili's hands, "exposing themselves, however unintentionally, to you. Idiot's. The both of them."
