Hermione
stormed through the Gryffindor common room and up the stairs to her room where
she stepped in and slammed the door as hard as she could. She gave a short
shriek. Her well thought out plans had been ruined again. Her breath hissed in
between her clenched jaws and Hermione gave way to the feline that had been
begging for release. Nails grew into the sharp talons and Hermione dragged them
across the stone wall, the resulting friction causing it to sound like nails
being dragged across a chalkboard.
“Witless.
Remus is completely witless.” Hermione shrieked again and grabbed a pillow from
her bed and proceeded to shred it into millions of pieces. Bastet who had run
for cover now came out to play with the falling feathers.
A knock on
the door made Hermione pause. A few steps and she over to the door. She threw
it open so hard that it cracked against the wall. “WHAT?!”
Ron gulped
and backed away slowly. He looked at Harry who had turned white. Neville being
Neville turned and walked away quickly. He didn’t want to get caught in the
crossfire.
“Ah
Hermione…well go on Harry.”
“We were
just worried about you.” Harry gulped out his face still white as a sheet.
Hermione’s hair was everywhere; her robe slightly askew and her hands were
clenched into fists. Her chest was heaving and her face was flushed. No one
needed to be told that she was in a temper.
Hermione
took a deep breath and smiled slowly. It did nothing to reassure the boys
standing before her. If anything Ron and Harry both backed away further. “I’m
sorry that I upset you guys. Snape was interrupted by Remus and Dumbledore so
now I have to finish my detention with McGonagall another night.” Hermione
lied, her hand itching to get on Remus. A sudden thought came to mind. “Harry
do you know where Sirius is? I really need to talk to him.”
Harry
glanced over at Ron, who just shrugged. “Err I do believe that he’s at the
Leaky Cauldron waiting for Remus to meet him there. Uh well now that we know
you’re okay we’ll just leave you alone now.” Harry rushed out and both boys ran
down the stairs to escape from Hermiones’ evil smile.
“Revenge is
a desert better served cold.” Hermione murmured and shut her door. Quietly this
time. She threw off her robe once again and took off the boots. She shimmied
out of her skirt and grabbed some comfortable clothes. She was on a mission and
she’d be damned if she let Remus ruin it one more time.
How
Hermione escaped to the Leaky Cauldron was simple. She apparated. Since she had
turned 18 earlier there was nothing that the Ministry of Magic could do. The
Leaky Cauldron was right where she had remembered it; after all she had spent a
month there waiting for school to start. She drew her cloak closer and opened
the door. Immediately the smells of stew and warm rolls filled her nostrils.
The Leaky Cauldron didn’t only just serve drinks; it also had a full stocked
kitchen where a cook named Mags worked. Hermione glanced over the crowd,
dismissing all until she settled on a familiar figure leaning against a post.
Sirius
Black onetime occupant of a cell at Azkaban prison watched as his godson’s friend
headed over to him. Her face was set in determination and her eyes glittered
with an unholy light. Sirius mentally shrugged. He had never been a saint while
he had been at Hogwarts, in fact he still wasn’t a saint.
“Ah Sirius
just the man I want to see. Please take a seat, I need to have a quick chat
with you over a round.” Hermione didn’t give Sirius a chance to refuse; she
simply grabbed his arm and propelled him towards and empty booth. She pushed
him down and lifted her arm. Soon after two mugs of butterbeer were placed in
front of them.
Sirius felt
his eyebrows rise. Whatever she had to talk to him about was obviously
important to her. “Well I’m all ears. What’s the matter Hermione?”
“Remus is
the matter. I don’t know what is going on in his head but he had better get it
out of there.” Hermione growled out, her eyes flashing.
Sirius
chuckled and took a sip of his butterbeer. Personally he would have preferred
scotch or maybe even whiskey but he wasn’t the one ordering. “Well what has he
done? He hasn’t said anything to me. What’s he done Hermione? Stumbled across
you involved in a midnight tryst?” Sirius choked on the sip he had just taken.
“You’re serious. Remus found you….well…involved with someone and he broke the
two of you up? I just can’t credit it.”
Hermione
smiled grimly. “Oh yes, not once, oh no but twice. Deliberately! How am I
supposed to enjoy the last year at school if he keeps on interrupting me? I
want you to promise that you will make him stop. Not just for the next few
days, I mean the rest of his life. I don’t need another parent.”
Sirius
sobered as he remembered that Hermione had lost her parents this summer.
“Alright Hermione, I promise that I’ll tell Remus to quit interfering.”
Hermione
narrowed her gaze and looked at Sirius closely. “I want you to promise that
you’ll do likewise. I want no one to interfere with my love life. Now promise.”
Sirius
dramatically raised one hand while crossing his fingers over his heart. “I
promise that I will not interfere in the love life of Hermione Granger. There
satisfied?”
Hermione
smiled, she was about to continue the conversation when she spotted Remus
heading their way. Her smile faded and a snarl hovered on her lips. She liked
Remus she really did but his protectiveness was misplaced. She didn’t need his
interference and she didn’t know what she would do if he interrupted her plans
with Severus again.
Remus
halted. He knew that Sirius had been waiting for him but he hadn’t expected
Hermione there. He knew from her expression that she was still pissed over the
night’s turnout. “Ah Hermione to what do I owe the surprise visit?”
Hermione
sneered and then glanced back at Sirius. He nodded and Hermione turned her
attention back to Remus. “I wasn’t here to see you. I came to see Sirius. But
now that my business has been concluded I’m on my way back to Hogwarts. After
all I do have to prepare for detention, again.” With that as her parting shot
Hermione left the Leaky Cauldron leaving a bemused Sirius and a wary Remus.
“Sirius what
was Hermione here to talk to you about?”
Sirius
smiled again. “She came to talk to me about you breaking her affairs apart.
Really Remus, let the girl let her hair down once and a while. Surely you
remember our seventh year? I can remember on more than one occasion where
passion ruled out minds rather than logic.” Sirius smiled and took a gulp of
his drink only to spit it out a moment later.
“Sirius did
you just promise not to interfere without knowing who Hermione is involved
with? I can tell that you did just that. Sirius she’s gotten involved with
Severus.” Remus watched as Sirius spit out his drink and turned several shades
of red. “Well who do you think that she was talking about?”
“I
certainly didn’t think that it was Severus. Damn. Double damn. Sneaky wench. I
promised that you would stop interfering and I wouldn’t even try.” Sirius
miserably said. He stared remorsefully down into his mug.
“Well you
certainly made a mess out of things. Hermione will have both our heads if we
even dare to interfere now.” Remus said and sank down into the booth. A mug of
butterbeer appeared before him and both men looked at each other before downing
their stupidity in the drink.
Hermione
apparated back to the school, her mind full of plans. She had to get Severus
alone again and make sure that no one could interrupt them this time. Her mind
full of plans she ignored all those around her, including her worried friends.
The winds
blew across the tower, Hermione inhaled and smiled. The smell of fresh rain was
on the breeze. A wolf’s howl echoed through the night. Hermione turned her head
and listened. A scout. It had come from the dark forest though. Strange. She
shook off the uneasy feeling and looked up into the sky. The moon’s glow flowed
peacefully over her. She welcomed it. The moon was now her friend. The full
moon the next night, the night after her parents had been murdered had allowed
Hermione tansfansform. Hermione had relished in the freedom, the feel of her
lungs pushing oxygen to her muscles, urging her to run. Her nose had picked up
familiar smells and non-familiar smells. That was how she had come across
another werewolf, hunting for another muggle family. Hermione had taken the
were wolf by surprise and had done a good bit of damage to it before it had run
off. The feline in her DNA had also made its appearance felt. Hermione could
still make her nails lengthen like a cats, but in werewolf form it was more
like a tigers. Her fur had been long and black. Her eyes the tawny gold. She
didn’t know what the usual height was for a werewolf was at the shoulder but
she had towered over the other werewolf.
Hermione
closed her eyes and wished she could feel that freedom again. ‘Soon.’ Hermione
thought and wished that the moon would hurry up and change. ‘3 nights. That’s
all you have Hermione. 3 nights in which to put your plan into action.’
Hermione smiled and breathed in the night air again. She would not stop until
she had Voldemort where she wanted him. At her mercy. Hermione rubbed her brow.
She still didn’t know how silver would affect her. She sighed. “Only one way to
find out. I have to build up an immunity to it. Small doses should work.”
Hermione thought out loud. She knew from previous muggle experiments that once
a subject was slowly introduced into a poison rather than being suddenly the
person who had be building the immunity stood a greater chance of survival.
Silver was poison to werewolves so that settled the decision for her. If she
wanted to have an advantage over Voldemort’s army then she would have to start
tomorrow morning.
Another
wolf howled in the distance, this one further than the other. Another scout
answering. Hermione turned and gave one last look at the moon before heading
down to her bed, where one sleepy cat was waiting for her.
Well???? I hope you liked it. I’m starting to have fun are
you? I know that I let Remus off lightly…..or did I? Wink. You’ll just have to
continue reading. I know, I’m pushing it but heh, it’s my baby.
