Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
I feel that there are some things that I should explain. My characters are not normal 17-year-olds.
They can’t be. When you see what they have seen there is no way that innocence can survive. All 8
of them have seen things and done things that a normal 17-year-old would never have to do.
Maturity comes from experience; it doesn’t matter what kind, anything that makes you lose that
childhood innocence. And mine have it in spades. I’m not saying it is a good thing, as you may see
in this chapter and more to come, but it is the way things are. Each experience that we have changes
us in some way, though not always for the good. And my guys have done a lot. I do hope that this
chapter will explain some things for everyone.
EXPRESSIONS
The three left at the table in the Great Hall after Harry’s abrupt exit just looked at each other for a
few stunned minutes before one of them got up to follow their raven-haired friend. None of them
noticed the two professors slowly make their way back to the Head Table to have a quiet
conversation with the Headmaster. And only one of them noticed the expression on the face of the
silver-haired boy at the other table.
The expression, a cross between fear and longing, made the person walking out of the room realize
that the answers to some of the questions that had to be asked were easier answered than it was
thought. Now to find Harry and she knew exactly where he would be.
***************************************************************
Harry had made his way up to the Astronomy Tower. Made his way hell, as soon as the doors of the
Hall had closed behind him he had ran like a demon was after him, not really paying any attention to
where he was going. He was surprised he hadn’t fallen and killed himself. HA! Take that Voldemort
I did yer job for you.
He now sat on the same parapet that he had fallen off of Friday night. His face showed none of the
anguish that he was feeling. It was getting easier and easier to slip that mask into place and it
frightened him. He didn’t want to be cold. He didn’t want to keep his friends at arms length. But he
had to, it was the only way to protect them. And now, now he had added one more to the list of those
that he didn’t want to hurt, but knew he didn’t have a choice.
He replayed the scene in the Great Hall, the flash of blue eyes, the smirk, the slow sexy drawl that
seemed to get under his skin. “Oh God” Harry moaned. What was wrong with him?
He had wanted to grab him by the arms and take him right there in front of everyone. But instead he
had been cold. Harry didn’t want to be cold. He wanted Draco.
Oh god Oh God No please No his mind screamed He had to get himself under control. He was
losing it. Sighing he dropped his head into his hands, missing his friends arrival, and let his emotions
flow over him.
He wanted Malfoy.
And not just wanted him sexually. He wanted everything. His mind, body, and soul. He wanted to
know what it was like to have him in his arms. To run his hands thru his hair. To wake up next to
him in the morning. To spend all night just talking. To have him squirm under him. To catch his
gasp when he came with his mouth.
His head hit the stone wall behind him. Shit! BANG Shit! BANG Bloody fucking hell! BANG Stop
it!
“Harry?” the soft voice beside him startled Harry out of his panic. “Harry what?” Hermione
whispered to her best friend.
“Oh “Mione...I can’t...cold...hurt him” was all that Harry got out before he broke the rest of the way
down and started to cry, his sobs and shuddering strong enough to jar him from his position atop the
parapet. His eyes were clouded with tears so he didn’t see Hermione’s eyes widen as the realization
hit her of what she was seeing. In all these years she had never seen Harry lose it before and seeing it
now scared her more than anything had in the last 6 years. And they had been thru some scary stuff.
She had watched her friend, knowing that he didn’t know that she was there, and what she had seen
had made her heart feel like it was breaking. He was suffering and we didn’t even know it, she
thought. Well, I know it now and I will do everything I can to make him safe, she vowed to herself.
“Oh Harry” she whispered before taking the sobbing boy in her arms and holding him. She listened
to him try to get the words out between the sobs, words that she was sure he didn’t even know he
was saying. And as she listened some things fell into place.
She knew that Harry had been hiding things from them and now she knew why. He thought that they
would hate him! She knew Harry well enough to know that something was going on. He had come
back for our last year here a different boy than when he had left. He was aloof, sometimes cold, and
sometimes, though rare, her Harry would shine thru.
She wanted her Harry back. They all did. They needed him to be back and if Draco Malfoy was the
one to do this for them, then so be it. God help him if he hurt Harry. She wasn’t the smartest student
in 50 years for nothing. He hurt Harry and he would pay. She would see to that.
Finally his sobs and shudders stopped and Harry raised his head from her shoulder and looked into
her tear filled eyes. Her hand fell, from where she had been stroking his hair soothingly, to his
shoulder where she squeezed it gently.
Harry saw love, trust, and understanding shine from his best friends eyes and he relaxed. She didn’t
hate him. Smiling gently to each other Harry whispered, ”Thanks” and she whispered back,
“Welcome”
“Come on, time for Herbology” she said gently, knowing that this was not the time for questions.
That could come later after they both had time to think about what had just happened.
She saw the grateful look he gave her when he realized she wasn’t going to ask any questions right
now but knowing her he knew he would have to answer them later. Later was good. He felt to
drained right now to do anything.
Harry nodded and giving each other a hug that had been needed by both and was along time coming
the two friends left the Tower and headed for their next class.
***************************************************************
Draco had some how made it thru lunch without answering any of the questions from his friends. He
had seen the looks that had passed between them but he didn’t say anything. Hell, he didn’t know
what to say.
As they walked back to the Slytherin common room to get their books for their next class, he was
lost in his own thoughts. Something had just happened. He was sure of it but what, he didn’t know.
He had seen the mudblood’s glance when she had went after Harry but didn’t know what that meant
either.
“Draco” Pansy started to say but was cut off when he turned to glare at her. “Well, what did he
say?” she snapped.
Crabbe and Goyle kept their mouths shut, Draco would tell them when he wanted to and not before.
They were both surprised when he actually answered the question.
“He said that there will be no more fighting.” Draco said, confusion evident in his voice. It was
apparent from his startled expression that he hadn’t meant to say anything yet.
“What does that mean?” Crabbe asked.
“I don’t know but I mean to find out.” Draco said, “come on lets get to class.”
“You don’t think he suspects something do you?” Pansy asked, her brilliant mind working overtime.
“No I don’t think he does. Potter isn’t that smart.” Draco said as they walked down the Hall on the
way to Herbology. But Granger is, he thought, I wonder if she knows.
Nothing else was said as they made their way. Draco thought about each of his friends and what
would happen if they were found out.
Pansy was the brains behind the group, she kept up with everything that needed to be kept up with,
but most of all, it was her strategies that kept them alive. It was like she had a sixth sense about
things and when it happened she was always right. She was down right scary sometimes.
Crabbe and Goyle were the muscle but they also had other jobs. Crabbe was very well versed in all
forms of combat, from charms to curses. It pained him to act as if he knew nothing, especially in his
favorite class, Charms. He hated not answering questions that he knew the answer to but to show
that would put them all in danger.
Goyle was a seventh level medi-wizard. He had received special training this summer and he was
proud of himself. He kept his second wand hidden in a pocket sewn into his clothes. He had even
taken secret lessons from Madam Pomfrey last year. He had one more level to go before he finished
and he was cramming everything into his head that he could. He wanted to be ready when they
graduated.
Draco was the potions master of the bunch, he could brew anything. He was also a very powerful
wizard on his own and he had been the only one to block any of Snape's curses that he had thrown at
them. Just last night he had blasted the Potions Master of Hogwarts over three desks before he hit the
floor. It had pissed Snape off so bad that he had yelled at them to go. They had laughed all the way
back to the common room.
Every day it was becoming harder and harder for each of them to play the role that they had carved
out for themselves. Draco worried about his friends and the strain that this was having on them. A
flash of green eyes came to mind and he shivered at the remembered tone of voice he had used with
him. Made him want to take him right there in front of everyone.
Draco forced his thoughts to the back of his mind, one more class today and then he could rest.
Maybe he would go talk to Snape later.
*************************************************************
Class passed in a blur for everyone. Harry was so tired that he dreaded going to train tonight. He
knew that Snape would cut him no slack. And he needed to be there for Neville. Neville was still
frightened around Snape and made many foolish mistakes. No matter that the young man knew that
Snape was on their side and helping them, he was still scared of him.
Harry sighed and catching Neville’s eye gave him a look that said he wanted to speak to him. ‘After
class’ he mouthed to him, Neville nodded once and continued repotting the Venusian Slug plant that
they were working on today. Harry wanted to give him some advanced warning about what to
expect from Snape later tonight.
Glancing around the class he saw that Ron was staring at him and Harry gave his best friend a small
smile. He let his gaze fall just to the left and standing there was the object of his affections, or should
I say obsession, he thought to himself. Damn he looks good in this light. Stop thinking about him
for five seconds.
Forcing himself to look somewhere else before Malfoy saw him staring he caught Ron’s eye again.
He could see that he was giving him a weird look but didn’t want to say anything. He smiled again
and dropped his attention to his very own plant just in time to catch it before it fell from the planter.
It was slimy and it wiggled trying to get away. It looked like a big loogy with leaves. YUCK!
He would be glad when this class was over.
***************************************************************
Harry waited until everyone had left before taking Neville to an unused classroom to show him what
Snape would be throwing at him after dinner. They worked until dinner and then afterwards he and
Neville met Snape in the training room and as suspected, Snape was ruthless. Neville never once
anticipated him and not once did he block him.
But Harry did. He didn’t anticipate him but he did manage to block him. It wasn’t a very strong
block and the rebound only made him fall to one knee. But the look on his face when he did was
priceless, one Harry knew he would treasure for the rest of his life.
He let them leave right after and Harry and Neville made their way to the common room. Both of
them eager to see the look on Ron’s face when they told him.
