From Chapter
Eight = “The Prophecy”
“Neville. I can’t ask it of you. More, I won’t ask it of you.
I’d never do that to a friend. It’s virtual slavery, and that’s something that
Tommy does to his followers. Not me.”
Both Neville
and Padma, who was standing close by, started to protest.
Ginny, who
had her arm around Padma’s waist, pulled her
close, so that the young woman was forced to look at her. “Trust Harry, Padma.
He knows what he’s doing. He loves
Neville as a brother.”
“Neville, if you’re
prepared to, I would ask you to do something even more difficult. Take the
leadership of the Order of the Phoenix.
Ron has his own responsibilities, but there’s no one who I trust more to take
this job. Will you do it?”
Lavender was
the first to react. Breaking free of Hermione’s embrace,
she ran to Neville and threw her arms around him. Padma joined them and for
almost a minute, they stood with their heads touching.
When they finally
broke apart, there were infectious smiles on their faces. Harry threw an arm
and looked out over the crowd. Enhancing his voice once more, Harry looked out
at the crowd.
“Ladies and
Gentlemen, I suggested to Neville, Padma, and Lavender that I needed help in
our fight against Tom and his flunkies.
I’m thrilled to announce, then, that Neville has agreed to lead – with
the advice and guidance of the Headmaster and the Deputy Headmistress – the
Order of the Phoenix!”
{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}
2 AM – December 15th.
“Help us! Are you there? Help us, please”
The voice rang out from the specially charmed mirror that lay on
Hermione’s half of the chest of drawers that she shared with Ginny.
“What time is it?”
The voice called out again “Please, please, help us!”
The second time was enough to waken Hermione, Ginny, and Harry. “Accio
mirror”
The mirror shot to Hermione’s hand. She looked into it and said, “We’re
here. What’s going on?”
A pale, Nordic-looking man with ice-blue eyes look out at her “We’re
under attack. Don’t know how many. The alarms just got tripped and there are
explosions outside. We assume that there are at least 30, but we’re not sure.”
Hermione was fully alert now and she shifted into command-mode
immediately “Get your students to the shelter. Activate ‘Storm-cellar’ right
now. Use the port-keys if you have to. Leave everything behind, just like we
talked about. We’ll be there in five minutes.”
Harry was up and moving already. He grabbed for his wand and pointed it
at his through and muttered “sonorous”
His voice rang loud and clear through Potter Castle,
where all the students lay asleep “Code blue, code blue, code blue. This is
not a drill. All fifth, six, and seventh year students, assemble in the armory
with battle gear. This is not a drill.”
Hermione’s voice was ringing out in the parents’ condominiums within
the muggle portions of the Castle “Code blue, code blue, code blue. This is not
a drill. All defense units report to stations. Code blue, code blue, code blue.
This is not a drill.”
Hermione’s announcement sent parents racing out of bed; gathering
armor, weapons, and lists of students to protect in their parts of the Castle.
Within four minutes, Harry, Hermione, and Ginny were in the Castle’s armory,
dressed in their dragon-hide armor, with their swords across their backs and
other weapons on their persons.
Ginny was already dressed and out the door of their bedroom. By the
time Harry and Hermione arrived, she wanted to be more than half-way to
completing her assignment – getting the right weapons to the right individuals
and making sure that the Castle’s defenses were tight. Three minutes later, she
appeared first in the armory, arriving in a column of fire. There was a
collective gasp at her method of transport, for no one had known that she had
that particular talent. It would have caused a flurry of discussion; if there
hadn’t been other things upon which to focus.
By the time that the trio had finished their own tasks, the teams had
gathered. There were seventy-five warriors ready to depart to follow Harry and
his wives.
Harry bounded up onto one of the tables and looked out over the
assembled body. “We don’t have a lot of time. We’ve got to rescue the students
at Durmstrang tonight. We’ve planned for this and you have your assignments.
We’re not going to stun. That’s an order. If a death eater makes him or herself
a target, don’t hesitate. Kill. We’re not taking chances and we’re not taking
prisoners. I don’t care what the Ministry or the Minister himself says.
Remember – these are trained, professional killers. They will not spare you
because you are young. Don’t give them the chance to hurt you.”
Hermione strode forward, waived her hands, and three long ropes
appeared. Each team member placed a hand on the rope. “On three, everyone.
We’re going in hot and silent. Wands out.”
The teams disappeared on the count of three.
{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}
No moonlight and not a sound. Not a footfall, not an exclamation.
Nothing. Just as it should be, Harry
thought. “Ginny? Hermione? Your teams in place?”
Ginny checked in first “We’re in place. I’ve divided my teams in
groups of five. We’ll take the north gate and eliminate the resistance. Keep
your head down, Harry. They’ll be gunning for you the moment they know you’re
here.”
“You know I will, love. Take care of yourself. Remember – no
prisoners.”
“Hermione? You and your team ready?”
“We’re in place, Harry. I’m going to blow the southern gate and work
our way in. I’ve seen wand-flashes and we pretty much know what’s ahead of us.
We can see them trying to get through the front door, so we’re moving now. Keep
your head down, Harry. I want to be back in your arms tonight.”
“I love you too, Hermione. Be careful out there.”
Suddenly there were blue wand-flashes from the area around the northern
gate and the sounds of grenades going off. Ginny’s teams had engaged.
It was five hundred meters between the apparition point and the main
door to the school. Harry’s team was moving behind and beside him as they
apparated short distances, to points that they could see. His team was moving
like a well-oiled machine. They had practiced advancing like this over and over
again, in the light and dark. Harry’s five teams were preparing to close in on
the main door, where a group of death eaters had gathered. They were trying to
break into the castle proper, but the door was stronger than they had
anticipated.
Once Harry’s teams were in place, they hunched down behind a hillock of
rock and grass, prepared to apparate the last twenty meters. Harry had chosen
his very best marksmen to do the job of taking down the death eaters without
alerting the rest of Tom’s assault force.
Harry gave the signal and the ten students, including Neville, Parvati
Patil, Susan Bones, Seamus Finnegan, Cho Chang, and four others, used Volo
Voltum to close the gap. The moment they re-appeared, they fired off Reducto,
disembowelment curses and two – Neville and Seamus – used the awful, Evicera
curse. Nine death eaters fell, never to rise again. The tenth had a smoking
hole in his leg and was screaming in pain, or at least he would have, if Cho
Chang had not placed a Silencio hex on him. She looked grim but
determined. Payback, Harry though, for what was done to Cedric. He
looked at his team members and they all nodded as he quietly approached the
remaining death eater. His sword flashed out and down once, hard. The death
eater’s head fell away from his body. Harry looked down impassively as the body
bled out. He knew he wasn’t going to be sick again. There just wasn’t a sense
of guilt where death eaters were concerned. Do unto others as they would do
unto you, only…do it first.
“How’s it coming, Hermione?”
“Fine, Harry. We’ve taken out eleven here. I’ve got teams out the
perimeter, making sure that there aren’t outliers we have to worry about. No
worries. Ginny says that she loves you and that you shouldn’t worry about her
either. She’s not having fun, but she’s getting the job done. Oh, we have one
down” Her voice changed to the proper
‘accent’ “just a flesh wound” Harry heard her mental giggle. “Hannah Abbot didn’t block a cutting curse
completely. Her attacker is…well, he’s in a couple of pieces here and there.
Terry Boot was pretty pissed and when he finally calmed down, the death eater
was there and there and there…. Did you teach him ‘Sectum Sempra’ by the way?”
Harry reassured Hermione that yes, he had taught Terry that
particularly vile curse when he saw that Terry had matured enough to handle it.
He was reassured by the reports from his wives. “She’s done for tonight,
Hermione. Tell Terry to get her to the apparition point and take her home. Make
sure that Madame Pomfrey knows we have incoming wounded.” Harry hadn’t really been worried, but every
encounter had its risks. It looked like this operation was just about over. All
they had to do now was find a way to make contact with the temporary headmaster,
Vasilii Vasilyivich Nameinoff.
Harry reached out for his wife again, but this time, to get the
information he needed to get into the Castle “’Mione? Do you still have that
mirror on you? We’ve got to breach these doors or get them to open them from
the inside.”
“Yes! God, Harry, I’m so sorry. Of course. Give me a moment. I’ll get
Nameinoff and let him know that we’ve eliminated the primary attack force and
need to get inside to do a sweep of the Castle before the students can come out
of their shelter. Give me a moment.”
Hermione cut the connection and tried to page the Durmstrang
Headmaster. No one picked up the call for the longest time. Finally, a haggard
looking headmaster appeared in her mirror “Are you there. Clan Mistress? Were
you able to turn back the attack?”
“Yes, we were. What happened to you?”
“Well, it looks like my deputy had been under the Imperious Curse. He
tried to kill me. Some of my eighth-year graduate students stopped him just in
time.”
Hermione nodded gravely. The Imperious Curse was one of the most
difficult bits of magic to cope with and she was always dubious about the
counter-charms or claims of innocence due to the effects of the Imperious
Curse. She thought it was like a junior soldier claiming that he was not guilty
because his or her orders to commit a criminal act came from a superior. That
just never washed with Hermione.
“I need the password to open the front doors. We’re ready to do our
sweep, but we don’t want to have to blow the doors in order to get in.”
Headmaster Nameinoff looked at her for a moment, as if he was trying to
read her eyes or soul or something. Finally he said, “Akula”. Hermione smiled. Nameinoff would not have
believed that she knew a fair bit of Russian, and therefore knew that Akula
means ‘shark’ in Russian. Hermione closed her eyes for a moment and focused on
Harry. “Love? The password is ‘Akula’. Terry has taken Hannah to Madame
Pomfrey. She’s set up now in holding area one. She told me to tell you that she
doesn’t want any more business tonight.”
“Akula? Got it. As for Pomfrey – tell her I wanted a quiet night too.
We’re going to start our sweep in a moment. Bring your forces up and give us a
double perimeter. Ask Ginny to bring her troops up. We’re going to need a team
to secure their library and vault. We’ve got to make sure that when Tom gets
here, if he bothers to come find out what happened to his troops, that there’s
nothing left to salvage or give away Potter
Castle’s location.”
“Bring the troops up? Got it. Bringing them up now. Will let Ginny
know. Five minutes to compliance.”
“’Mione? I love you. You did great tonight.”
“You too, love. Don’t get hurt when you go in. You never know what’s
waiting for you.”
{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}
Hermione ran to where her five lieutenants; Ron Weasley, Dean Thomas,
Padma Patil, Lavender Brown, and Lisa Turpin, were standing. “Get your teams up
here. We’ve been asked to secure the perimeter right now. Harry is going to
take his team in to secure the Castle. If someone doesn’t respond with the
password, shoot first and ask questions afterwards.”
Her lieutenants nodded and ran to comply with her orders. “Ginny love? Harry needs you to bring your
team up fast and secure the library and vault. If you see anything in the
restricted section that you’re not sure how to deal with, call Dobby and ask
him to bring a containment box. We’ll apparate it into the box, lock the damn
thing, and send it to Bill Weasley. He’ll get it open for us.”
“Contain the library and vault? I’m on it now. I love you, Hermione.”
“Love you too, Ginny. Don’t get yourself hurt, k?”
“Not when I have you and Harry to come home to. See you soon.”
Ginny broke the connection as she started yelling at her teams. “Who wants to get laid tonight?” Hands went
up…
“Well? You’re not getting laid tonight…UNLESS or until you get the
library and the vault secured. You have twenty minutes. NOW GET GOING. First
team finished gets a case of Butterbeer. Now MOVE!”
{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}
Harry walked up to the main doors, drew out his wand, and whispered “Akula”.
The eighteen-foot high doors slowly opened to reveal the great, grand
entrance to Durmstrang. What is it with castle
builders? They always go with huge, high ceilings and curved staircases? Were
castle architects cloned or something, Harry mused.
“Cho! Neville, Susan, Ernie, Daphne! Get your teams going. Find me that bunker! Shields up and wands
out. Remember – we’re not taking prisoners. If there’s resistance - if it’s a
student under the Imperius curse, try finite incantatum. If that doesn’t
work, get someone to cast it with you. If that fails – well, you know what to
do. That’s an order. Your lives are worth more to me than anyone else’s. Ok? Go
now.”
The teams slipped around him and melted like shadows down the main
halls. Dressed in their dragon armor, they looked like oily, inky nightmares.
Harry turned his attention to searching out the strongest magical signal. He
placed his wand on his palm and said ‘point me’. It was the same spell that had saved him when
he was in that terrible maze in his forth year. The wand spun around several
times until it pointed to his right and down. Harry assumed that it meant that
he had to follow a set of stairs or a passageway that was nearby. So, he closed
his eyes and sought the path by sending out his magic to probe the walls,
doors, paintings, and statuary around him. Finally, he found a secret passage
behind the statue of a Russian-looking general. A back part of Harry’s mind
tugged at him and told him that he should know who that statue
represented, but he was tired enough that he just couldn’t come up with the
name.
Harry poked and probed the passageway to look for booby-traps. He had
no intention of just doing down a dark passageway without knowing where it led
or what he was potentially going to run into.
Frustrated, he fished into a pouch at his waist and took out a small ball
that looked like a gyroscope. It wasn’t a miniature sneak-o-scope, but rather a
dark-detector / magic detector. Once the
fishing line was magically attached to the magic detector, Harry tapped it with
a wand to activate it and then sent it into the passageway. He had lots of string, so he kept feeding it
out as the magic detector disappeared down the dark path. After ten minutes, Harry started to pull it
back, so that he could download it directly into his own consciousness. Having
brought it safely back, Harry tapped the end of his wand to the detector ball
and drew away from it a silvery thread that looked suspiciously like a memory.
He brought that to his temple – in the exact opposite way that a Pensieve would
be used.
It took a moment for Harry’s mind to stabilize the images in his thoughts.
Once he could see the images clearly, he put them into their natural order and
let them play out.
After reviewing the twists and turns of the hallway that the detector
took, Harry determined that the passageway as clear. So, after marking the spot
where he entered with a message that only his wives could (and would) read,
Harry started down the hall.
{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}
Twenty minutes later, Harry located Durmstrang’s bunker. It was elaborate,
in the same way that the Russians used to do things. Harry wondered where
exactly the school was located, that it would have such influences. Peter
the Great. Oy. How could you be so stupid? Harry thought to himself.
Sometimes, the best way to get through a door was to knock, so that’s
what Harry did. Of course, he knocked the way a wizard would – but using a
bludgeoning spell that pounded on the door. A minute or so later, a Patronus
came through the door and looked at Harry. It seemed satisfied that he was who
they thought it was going to be, so the Patronus trotted back magically through
the door and it swung open.
“Hermione, Ginny. Get your teams down here. I’ve got them, but I
want to make sure we’re not walking into a bad situation.”
The answer came back to him immediately. “Coming presently.”
Suddenly, there were two more presences – one to his left and one to
his right. Immediately, a golden nimbus formed around the three as they joined
hands. When Harry saw the nimbus, he blushed. There was only one reason that it
would form for the trio – that they were feeling particularly intense about
each other.
There was a ‘pop’ and several more magical auras were in the
passageway. There was a gasp and Harry’s head whipped around to see who it was.
Ron, Lavender and several others. “Bloody hell, Harry.”
“What, Ron?”
“You three. How long have the three of you……been doing that”
Ginny looked at her brother. “Ron, drop it. We don’t want to talk about
it right now. We’ve got things to do.”
Hermione called out in Russian
“директор
школы!” Which Harry figured either meant
‘headmaster’ or ‘is anyone there’? In a moment, Harry received his answer, for
the Durmstrang headmaster walked out of the bunker and into the passageway
where Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, and Lavender were standing. The Headmaster
was taken aback for a moment and Harry figured it was either because of their
apparent ages or because of the dragon-hide armor that the five were wearing.
The Headmaster looked down at them “My god, you’re not Hogwarts
Professors. You’re just students!”
Harry stepped forward. “Sir? My name is Harry Potter and I, and the
other ‘students’ just saved your lives. There are thirty-four very, very dead
death eaters on the grounds of your castle right now. I suggest that you assign
a few of your staff to go and dispose of the bodies, so that Voldemort will not
know what happened to his minions. Transfigure them into rocks or something”
“Yes, yes. I agree.” Nameinoff
called back down into the bunker and immediately, several adults who were
dressed similarly to the headmaster came out. Each of them looked at the five
Hogwarts students with something approaching awe, or at least trepidation. They
passed down the passageway and out towards the Foyer.
Hermione walked forward and looked at Nameinoff “You know, Headmaster,
for a school that was reputed to teach its students about the dark arts in a
much open manner, none of you seemed to want to take on the death eaters. I’m
curious as to why that was.”
Ginny spoke in her mind “good question, love. I was thinking the
same thing. I’m wondering why we were able to beat the death eaters so easily
when we’re not all fully fledged wizards and witches yet.”
Harry intervened in the silent conversation “Ginny – ask Ron. He’ll
most likely tell you it’s because we had stealth, surprise, and complete
ruthlessness on our side. We were willing to kill for the first time and the
death nibblers didn’t have time to react. We won because we acted first and had
a plan. It’s not going to be so easy the next time.”
“Oh, by the way, the reason that this attack worked for us is because
Ron planned it. When this war is over,
I’m going to make sure that the four of you are known as the real heroes. Even
if I have to sit on the editor at the Daily Prophet and MAKE him write what I
tell him to write.”
Ginny beamed with Weasley pride at Harry’s statement. She loved her
brother very much and despite the fact that Ron had been a jealous,
overbearing, pugnacious git at times, she still thought the world of him. It
pleased her inordinately that Harry would be so determined not to take credit
for himself, but rather have others recognized for what they did. She realized
that no amount of nay-saying on Harry’s part would ever diminish his accomplishments
in the eyes of the wizarding world. Harry had a heroes’ heart – unselfish,
self-deprecating, and naturally shy. She realized just how proud she was to be
called Mrs. Ginny Potter.
Nameinoff had not yet responded to Hermione’s statement and there was
something not-quite-right about his hesitancy. “Harry? I want to know what’s
going on in his head. Let’s try a two- or three-pronged Legillemens attack.
I’ll batter down his front door and while I have him distracted, you two can
sneak in and poke around a bit. We’ll get the information we need, if what I
think is true actually is true.”
“No. Let’s get Luna. She can’t be fooled or resisted. It’s easier and
he won’t know what happened.”
He pulled Ron aside and whispered to him. “Ron. Get Luna down here now.
Tell her I need her to scan the Headmaster. I don’t want her seen by him,
though. Tell her to bring her invisibility cloak.”
Ron nodded and closed his eyes to focus on his communication with Luna.
Ron said, “She’s coming. She was securing the Library when I called her.”
A minute later, there was a barely audible ‘pop’ as Luna materialized
behind them. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny could feel her presence, but said
nothing. All of them knew why Luna was there.
Hermione started whistling, quietly. She would have been singing to
herself, if the situation were more comfortable. As it was, her whistling broke
some of the tension. Ginny acted as though she were very tired and slumped against
one of the passageway walls. The Headmaster watched her, which was exactly what
Ginny wanted to have happen. It bought Luna time to do her work.
Finally, Ron reached a hand over and tapped on Harry’s shoulder. “Got a
sec to talk?”
Harry looked at him, as if surprised. He wasn’t, but he did his best to
make the act convincing. “Yes, what do you need?”
Ron looked at him and flicked his eyes, trying to indicate that they
should walk up the passageway for a bit. Harry caught the look and turned to
walk with him.
When they got to the grand Foyer, Harry turned “What did she get?”
Ron was clearly impressed with what Luna could do. “She’s bloody
brilliant, she is, Harry. She picked him clean. Stupid bloke didn’t even know
she was there. Anyway – he was trying to pin us between Tommy’s forces and his
own, but his own people rebelled and wouldn’t do it. He thought that he’d be
rewarded if he set it up so that Tommy’s people could take us down. The one who
he claimed was under the Imperious
curse was actually trying to keep Nameinoff from ordering an attack on us.”
“That doesn’t make any sense, Ron. When we snuck up behind Tommy’s
forces, they were actively trying to break into the Castle and never saw us
coming.”
Ron blinked. “I don’t know. Let me ask her. Hang on.”
Ron’s eyes went out of focus while he talked rapid-fire to Luna over
their link. When he came back into the moment with Harry, he had an expression
of clarity “Luna says that Tommy double-crossed him. By the time Nameinoff
figured it out, he had no choice but to retreat. It seems that Tommy’s forces
were trying to take the castle by force so that they could take the library and
the vault; kill whoever wasn’t willing to take the dark mark, and then force us
to attack from the outside, where we’d be vulnerable. They just didn’t expect
us to react so fast or to be so brutal.”
“Ok. So he’s a snake. I say that we get all the students out who are
‘clean’ and take their library and vault with us. Once everyone is out, I’ll
cast the dark mark and follow right behind.”
“Ron – have Luna secure the prisoner. I want him naked and bound for
Tommy when he gets here. Oh – have Luna snap his wand. Once she’s done that, I
need her to scan all of the students in turn. It will take a while but she’s
much faster at it the using legilimency.”
“Got it. She’ll take care of it.”
Hermione and Ginny heard Harry’s thoughts and started moving their
teams to the port-key disapparation point. “Ginny? Did you secure the
library and vault?”
Ginny came up behind Harry and wrapped her arms around him. “Hey,
lover. You bet we got them. 125, 000 volumes in the library, not including the
restricted section, which is bigger than the one at Hogwarts by far, by the
way. Hermione’s already having kittens over it.”
Hermione interjected in their minds from where she stood in the Foyer “I
did not. Prats! I just said that it will be fun to go through when I get the
chance.”
Ginny’s grin was infectious and her laughter was effervescent “Ya?
And who did a two-minute happy dance when I told her how many books there were?
Huh? Can’t fool us, Hermione. We know you too well.” Ginny added a real
leer to her last thought and an image of Hermione naked and tied down,
spread-eagle, on their master bed.
“Ok, you two. We can have fun when we get home. Right now, I’ve got
to get everyone out of here. Make sure your teams are assembled. How much gold
from the vaults?”
“Total? 550,000 galleons. Tommy won’t appreciate loosing access to
that!”
“That wasn’t all, Harry. There are some things you need to see. Things
that we have to have Bill look at as soon as is possible. I think…well, I think
we might have found another one. It has an R on it.”
“GINNY! Why didn’t you tell me as soon as you found it?”
“Because I didn’t want to get your hopes up. We don’t know for sure yet
and I didn’t want to distract you. It’s in a containment box now, waiting for
transport.”
“Ok. Ok. Here’s what we’re going to do. The galleons go to Gringotts
for transfer to the Hogwarts’ accounts. The other things go to the Potter
family special vault.”
“Ginny? As soon as we get to the Castle, ask Bill, Ron, Fred, George,
Charlie, Neville, Moody, and your father to accompany the items to Gringotts. I
want those guarded closely until we know what we’re dealing with. All, except
the ‘special’ item. That I want protected in the secure vault at the Castle. I
will make a personal call at 7 am to Griphook and ask him to close the bank
long enough for you to do the transfer without being observed.”
Hermione had organized her team and the students whom she was
accompanying back to the Castle “I’m ready to go with my team, Harry. I have
one hundred of the Durmstrang students with me.”
“I’ll have Team One cover your departure”. He pointed his wand at his throat, ”Sonorous”
“Team Two: report to departure point.”
“Quietus”
Ginny and Harry strode purposefully towards the departure point. “Ginny?
Get everyone out. I will remain behind to make sure that there are no
stragglers.”
“Already gone, love.” Harry grabbed
her when the reached the departure point, outside the Castle’s perimeter. The
rest of team two had just left, with Luna and Ron taking charge.
“Ginny? I love you. I’m very proud of what you did tonight. You were
very brave and led your team really well.”
“Oh, Harry. I love you too. You were amazing. No one was badly hurt and
you were right to come and rescue the students here.”
Ginny flung herself into the arms of her black-haired husband. Their
lips crashed together and they felt the warmth of each other’s touch. There was
a hunger that both felt that drove them.
Harry felt himself grow hard and Ginny felt his desire through their
link. Her body responded in equal measure “Hermione? We need you. Harry and
I need you. We will be home in a moment.” The youngest Weasley’s lust was
palpable to her husband and to her bond-mate and in consumed their thoughts in
that moment.
Harry wanted to rip of her dragon-hide armor and take her, roughly,
right where they stood. He knew that they couldn’t join like that, though. No
one was supposed to see how their magic connected.
Harry tore himself away from her hold. “God damn it, Ginny.” Harry
swore like a muggle. “I want you so much I can taste it. Taste you. Let’s get
this fucking shipment done to Gringotts and get home. I need you now.”
With a resigned sigh, Ginny summoned Team Three to the port-key apparition
point while Harry did a sweep of the grounds with his magic detector.
Satisfied that everything and everyone had been accounted for, Harry walked
the two hundred meters back to where Team Three stood waiting. Everyone still
had wands out and was standing back to back, just in case. The darkness of the
night and the lack of moonlight were unnerving to all of them. He could sense
their unease and so he held his wand aloft and thought “Lumos maxima”.
The light from Harry’s wand seemed to settle the teams’ collective
nerves. Ginny made a port key for the
team to use – a long, thin rope – and on the count of three; the team
disappeared into the night, taking the light of Harry’s wand with it.
