Underneath His Skin
Chapter 9
---------^^----------^^---------^^---------^^--------^^---------------
When Harry reached the Potions classroom, he saw his friends waiting at the entrance.
“We were wondering where you went to,” Ginny let out.
“Sorry, I was talking with Professor Lupin,”
“Well at least you finally got to talk to him,” Hermione stated.
“I wonder how often we’ll hear him say that,” Ron joked.
“Say what?” Harry asked.
“Hear Malfoy say ‘I’m sorry’ about something,”
Ginny and Neville laughed, while Hermione just shook her head.
“Honestly, don’t we have better things to worry about?” She drawled out.
Harry smiled and ran his hand through his hair.
“Whats wrong? You can’t imagine someone like me getting soft all of a sudden?” Harry decided to role-play.
“Oh no, it’s not that Mr. Malfoy. We just want a real, genuine apology for everything you have done, and said, to us in the past!” Ron pleaded in a mocking manner.
“Is that so?” Harry asked.
“If you do, MAYBE I’ll go with you to the winter dance,” Ginny added.
Ron shot a glare at her.
“I’m kidding, Ron!” She giggled.
“Yeah, Weasley. I’m taking Miss Granger instead,” The blonde placed his arm around her, who angrily shoved him away.
“Stop being immature, Harry!” She shouted before rushing into the dark classroom.
“What’s her problem?” Harry asked.
“I’m not sure, but maybe we should go inside too. We’re gonna be late,” Ron quickly let out, before disappearing inside.
Harry turned to Neville, who only shrugged about the incident.
“I think they… never mind. Lets just go inside and forget about this whole thing,” Ginny insisted, leading the two boys into the dark, dungeon-like room.
As they entered the room, Harry scanned the Slytherin tables and saw Draco laughing with Blaise, which made him feel very uncomfortable for some reason…
“Harry, you okay?” Neville asked.
Harry snapped out of his gaze and continued to walk up the steps. After taking his seat, Harry noticed how close Draco was sitting next to another Slytherin girl, who had long blonde hair and cool blue eyes.
‘Typical,’ Harry thought, ‘how long is he going to keep this charade going? Isn’t it enough that he’s prancing around in my body!? Does he have no morals?!’
“Um, Harry… are you sure you’re –?”
“I’m fine,” Harry quickly let out, watching Draco fix a golden pin on the girl’s shirt.
‘So that’s how you wanna play, huh Potter…. Potter? What the hell? Did I just hear Draco’s thoughts!?'
“Harry, I-“
“WHAT!?” Harry shouted.
Everyone looked at the flustered blonde, who was glaring at Neville and unknowingly digging his nails into the wooden desk. The nervous Neville glanced around the room and immediately turned red. After realizing how quiet the room was, Harry followed his friend’s action and leaned back against his seat, hoping that it will help him disappear or something.
“I didn’t know I could shout like that,” Draco teased, making his half of the room chuckle at the incident.
“Settle down, everyone,” Snape gradually let out, “Mr. Potter”
Harry looked at the amused professor.
“You inspired me, Potter, to demonstrate a new concoction on you… Step down here,” He commanded.
Harry sighed, rolled his eyes, and began to slowly make his way down to the center of the room. With the cast of Snape’s wand, a bubbling cauldron appeared in front of Harry, just as it did to Neville the day before.
“Can you identify this potion, Potter?”
Harry looked at the bright blue liquid, and noticed a faint, but familiar aroma coming from it. He knew the potion, but the exact words wouldn’t come out… mainly because this is his first time recognizing something he had never seen before…
‘I better tell this to Hermione later’
“Well?” Snape asked.
Harry furrowed his eyebrows together, and admitted to not knowing it.
“This is the Babbling Beverage,”
The Slytherins started to whisper amongst each other, while the rest of the classroom was filled with worried looks. Harry glanced up at Draco, who was smirking at his situation.
“I’m sure you have a lot to say, regarding your sudden outburst, so I’ll help you let it all out,” The professor gave him a vial, but Harry just stood there; not wanting to give in to Snape’s little mind games… even though he felt very weird about disobeying him.
“Either you drink this potion, or I’ll deduct house points. It’s your choice,”
Harry scowled at the smirk Snape was making, so as much as he hated to, Harry took the vial and began to scoop up some of the blue substance. The Slytherin side of the room leaned forward, as their 'icon' downed the potion. Everyone remained silent while watching Harry with expected stares.
“So, how do you feel?” Snape asked.
‘Fine’ Harry thought, but then…
“What a bloody genius to submit the masses,”
“HUH?” Everyone in the room shouted.
Harry immediately covered his mouth; afraid of anything else that would come out. Draco and his gang laughed and started to mock him.
“What does that even mean?!” Pansy yelled.
“I think he’s talking about Weasley,” The brunette teased.
Ron stood up and ran down to Harry’s side.
“C’mon, lets go sit down,”
“If its dark, then it’s blue,” The blonde couldn’t help but say as Ron led him away.
The Slytherins continued to laugh and Snape revealed the ingredients on the board.
“Now, you have 35 minutes. I suggest you get started,”
Everyone got up to retrieve the items, while Ron and Harry remained seated.
“It shouldn’t last any longer than that, just hold on until then, buddy,” Ron assured him.
‘Thanks’
“The dragon has the inner snitch,” Harry plopped his head down onto the desk; completely embarrassed by his temporary condition.
“You’ll be fine, mate,” Ron chortled.
When Neville returned with the ingredients, Ron got up and went to sit with Hermione. Ginny stopped by Harry’s side and asked if he was okay.
“Forever yours,” Harry immediately blushed and hid his face behind his hands.
“It’s okay, Harry,” Ginny giggled and continued walking up the steps.
“Um, Harry, you want to cut the Ruffen’s roots?” Neville asked.
‘Please, don’t make me talk!’
“Square root of OS is 20,”
‘What the fuck?!’
“Yeah, I see,” Neville grinned, trying not to laugh.
“I see his orb!” This time, Harry smacked himself on his forehead.
“Maybe if you write it down, I-“
Harry immediately started to write on a piece of paper – ‘Don’t make me talk, please!?’
“OH, Okay… you wrote on my homework assignment, by the way,”
Before Harry could react, another outburst came out,
“He didn’t see the path of Mary!”
Neville finally let out a laugh, while Harry covered his mouth again.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
“I only asked her because no one else seems to want anything to do with me at my current state, now do you want to go with me to the Winter Dance, or not?”
“Yes, I’ll go with you if she isn’t bothered by it,” The blonde Slytherin girl responded, gesturing toward Pansy.
“She won’t, because it’s none of her business,”
The girl gave him a skeptical look, before agreeing to his offer about the Winter Dance.
“Very well, now get out of here. I’m sure it’ll make a great topic for a 3 minute conversation,” Draco stated with an irritated tone.
The blonde girl just stood up and made her way back to her three giggling friends.
“You sure handled that pretty well,” Blaise sarcastically commented.
“What?! She kept giving me the run-around so I had to take deeper measures,”
“You must like her or something, you usually give up after the first time they throw the question back at you,”
“Don’t be an idiot, you know I don’t take these girls seriously. Besides, I’m a bit desperate to get my reputation back up, since so many people seem to keep their distance from me!” Draco admitted.
Blaise nodded while pouring the nectar in the cauldron.
“What about you? Any date for the Winter Dance?” Malfoy calmly asked.
“I don’t even have a Halloween date. These Slytherin girls only notice me when I’m with you, and I can’t seem to approach any of them,”
“Don’t be modest, these Slytherins love when a man takes charge. It becomes a battle between who’s actually the dominant one,”
“No thanks, I get exhausted just watching you do it all the time,”
“Then you’re learning from the best!” Draco stated.
Blaise just snorted and started to cut the roots. Draco leaned back and looked across the room to where Harry was. He saw the way Neville and Harry were laughing together, and it made him feel quite nervous inside…
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
“I know this may be a bit early, but have you considered a date for the upcoming dance?”
‘Dance? What dance?’
“Dust carries the appetite,” Harry muttered.
“Yeah I don’t either,”
Harry turned to Neville with a questionable look.
‘Okay, I thought I was the one filled with nonsense right now,’
“Well, I do want to ask someone, but I just get so nervous around her, I feel like I’m gonna blab about something that won’t make any sense at all,”
‘Haha, very funny Neville,’
“No offense, Harry,”
“Whisper in the lamps light,” Harry wanted to punch himself after saying that, but Neville’s voice stopped him.
“What about that one girl you were talking to yesterday?”
‘Margret? Oh God, I almost forgot about her! I wonder where she is? She didn’t come by during lunch… What if she’s afraid of me?’
“Awake during brain-freeze! Now that’s a start,”
Neville laughed and shook his head.
“I’ll stop talking so you can concentrate more,”
“Spinach makes a sandwich!” Harry nodded.
By the end of class, Harry still wasn’t talking. Even after Snape asked if the potion was still in effect.
“I can only tell if you speak, Potter,”
Harry just shrugged, and the professor walked away.
“You can talk to me, Harry,” Neville muttered.
‘Not a chance,’
After Snape dismissed the class, Harry quickly left the room; forcing his friends to run after him again.
“Harry, slow down will you?!” Ron yelled.
When Harry made it out of the door, he took a deep breath and moved his hair out of his eye.
“See you soon, Potter!” Malfoy called out.
‘Sod off!’
“Leave him alone, Malfoy,” Ginny called out.
“Don’t you dare tell me what to do!” Draco shouted.
Ginny, Ron and Hermione backed away from the angry brunette, but Harry remained still while gazing at the image of his angry self.
‘Wow, I never knew how incredible I look while being so angry…’
“Let’s go, Draco,” Pansy pleaded, grabbing his shoulder.
“Don’t touch me!”
“Don’t touch him!”
Both boys shouted at the same time. At first, the boys weren’t bothered by it, until they noticed their friends’ reactions. Harry started to feel warmth fill his cheeks and Draco had to back away in order to get rid of a certain sensation that he wasn’t familiar with.
“Let’s go,” Draco said, while rushing away from the scene.
His friends slowly followed him while glaring at Harry and his friends.
“What the bloody hell was that about?” Ron asked.
“Maybe it’s another advanced symptom,” Hermione stated.
“For Merlin’s sake, Hermione! You make it sound like he’s your bloody patient!”
“Well I don’t see you coming up with anything meaningful!”
“Hey! Would you two just give it a rest?!” Harry shouted, “Can we please just forget about this and get something to eat?”
The blonde swiftly turned away and began to make his way down the hall. His friends looked at each other before catching up to him.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
Draco was almost to the Great Hall when he spotted a tall, brunette, Ravenclaw girl standing at the entrance. Her bright green eyes reminded him of Harry’s, and that feature alone made him stop to talk to her.
“Good evening,” he said.
The girl looked confused at first, especially after seeing him in Slytherin clothes and being followed by four other Slytherin members.
“Um… Harry?”
Draco smirked and gestured for his friends to move on.
“I figured that you knew him,”
“So… you’re Malfoy?”
“So you’ve heard?”
The girl nodded and looked back down the hallway.
“Don’t worry, you can’t miss him. He tends to stick out more than he did before, considering that he’s got the best feature in this school,”
He watched as the girl swiftly turned back to him with the most innocent look he’s ever seen… on a girl that is.
“Draco Malfoy,” he introduced himself by offering her his hand.
She looked down at it, and then back up at his eyes.
‘Don’t tell me that she’s going to reject me like that damn Potter did?!’
But to his surprise, she took his hand and smiled.
“Margret Chille,”
Draco smiled and Margret just giggled as she stepped back.
“Well, it was lovely to meet you Miss Chille. I’ll see you around,” He said, heading inside the Great Hall.
Margret watched in amusement as Malfoy made his way to the Slytherin table…
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
“Margret?”
Harry watched as the girl swiftly turned to him, and her first reaction was shock.
“Don’t be scared, it’s me-“
“Harry?”
The blonde smiled and nodded. Margret’s reaction went from shock to being grateful.
“Margret!” Ron called out.
The girl immediately turned her attention to him,
“Yes?”
“I suppose you will be joining us for dinner?” He asked.
“Of course! I wanted to see Harry again,” Margret openly confessed.
Harry started to feel nervous, but he straightened himself up and led everyone to the table. Margret sat next to Harry, while Ginny reluctantly sat on his other side; and Ron, Neville and Hermione sat across from the potential couple.
“So, you’ve heard the news,” Ron remarked.
“Yes, it was very hard to believe, but after hearing about it from Luna, I started to feel more at ease,”
“More at ease?” Neville asked.
“Its hard to explain, I guess it’s more like ‘Harry is Harry, regardless of how he looks’… right?”
“Right,” Ginny replied, shoving some bread inside her mouth.
“That makes sense. I guess that’s how we feel, considering we’re still talking to him,” Hermione stated.
“Is there anything the professors can do?” Margret asked.
“Not yet. They’re having other wizards research everything, and in the meantime, Malfoy and I are waiting on the Polyjuice potion. It won’t be available ‘til December,” Harry explained.
“That’s quite a while,” Margret commented.
Hermione nodded and started to grab for the book,
“Yeah, but we’re a bit ahead of everything, cause we found this book that-“
“Again with the book!” Ron exclaimed.
“I was talking to Margret!” Hermione countered.
“Yeah, but do you have to announce it to the whole world that we’re reading a book on this subject?! It’s not like we’re going to win a grand prize or anything for it!”
“Would you calm down?! It’s research! Something you should be more involved in!”
While the two continued to argue, Margret chuckled and started to eat her mashed potatoes. Harry turned to Ginny, who was moving her beans around on her plate. After a quick shrug, Harry tried to eat his dinner two, but his cravings got the best of him again.
‘Fruit… where are the fruits?’
Dinner went by with some occasional awkward glances from the surrounding students of both Harry and Draco, but they managed to remain calm and collective until it was time to go to their Houses. Harry and his group were the first to exit the Great Hall before Draco and his posse, but that didn’t stop Draco from getting under Harry’s skin one last time before the night was over.
“Sleep tight, Potter. Don’t forget my offer about the journal,”
Harry felt the sudden urge to glare at the brunette, but his friends quickly grabbed his shoulders and continued to lead the way to the switching staircase. Draco smirked and ushered his friends toward the dungeons.
