Harry tried to act as though everything was normal as he packed his clothes and books away in his trunk, and then ushered Hedwig into her cage. At least things will probably return to normal when I get back to Hogwarts. Harry figured. It would be much easier to pretend that Snape was still the same, loathsome creature that he'd always been, and that Harry was simply preparing for another showdown with Voldemort at the end of the school year. That, for Harry, was normal.
They hadn't spoken much that morning, Harry and Severus, they'd woken, in each others arms, disentangled themselves, and then each gone to their separate showers.
Maybe now that we're bonded we won't have to do that again. Harry reasoned in his mind. Merlin, what am I thinking? I enjoyed it! A blush crept across Harry's cheeks.
Without so much as a knock, Snape stepped into the room, "Ready Potter?"
Harry looked up to find his professor quirking an eyebrow at him, "Yeah I think so. Isn't it a bit early to be leaving?"
Snape sneered, "We won't be taking the Hogwarts Express. There is a portkey waiting on us." With that the Slytherin turned and left the room, his footsteps echoing softly as he walked down the stairs.
Lugging his trunk and Hedwig downstairs, Sterling took the two men's luggage, after being ordered by Snape to deliver it safely to Hogwarts, where the house elves there would unload it to its proper places.
Severus stood beside of a table near the door, and on the table set a snake figurine that glittered ominously, "This is the portkey." Saying this, Severus waited for Harry to touch it. When the Gryffindor didn't, Severus speared him with his black eyes, "Potter, were you listening?"
Harry nodded, eyeing the figurine warily, "Yeah, I'm just not that fond of portkeys. They have a way of leading me to disaster." The young wizard began slowly reaching his hand forward but Snape stopped him.
Moving behind the younger wizard, Snape put his arms around Harry and took hold of the portkey, "Now, put your hands on it." He directed, his breath warming Harry's ear as the Gryffindor timidly touched the figurine.
This time, the transportation was much different. The pulling, whirling sensation was still there, but with this trip there was a sense of safety as his body melded back against the firm and strong body of Severus Snape.

Arriving in the grand foyer at Hogwarts, Harry fought to make his breathing returning to normal as Severus slowly moved out from around him and slipped the figurine into Harry's pocket, "This is the only portkey that will work inside of Hogwarts. Use it if you need it. The word is Prodigal, it will activate and take you back to the manor." Severus dropped the snake into Harry's pocket and then proceeded to walk away, "Dumbledore wants to see you." He called over his shoulder before disappearing around a corner.
Harry stared after his mate, reaching down into his pocket his fingers met with what would appear to be cool metal, but the figurine was strangely warm and comforting to the touch.
Shaking his head to clear it from the thoughts that confused him, Harry turned in the direction of Dumbledore's office, and after giving the candy password, Harry moved rapidly up the revolving staircase.
"Harry," Dumbledore's eyes twinkled fondly, "have a seat. It's good to see you safely at Hogwarts once again. The wards and guards around the castle have been strengthened this year, and a few more added. As I'm sure Severus told you, the portkey that he made for you will take you safely back to his manor in case you ever find yourself in any trouble. Only you and he know the safe word that activates the portkey; tell no one." The Headmaster instructed gravely.
Harry, who still hadn't forgotten Dumbledore's manipulative role in his life, was still a little wary of his Headmaster, "Is there anything else, sir?"
Dumbledore turned his blue eyes to Harry, "Yes there is." The old man seemed to hesitate for a moment, "How did everything go with Severus?"
"Fine." Harry said shortly, not wishing to discuss with Dumbledore a relationship that he himself was unsure of.
"Are you positive, Harry? I know that you think me some unfeeling creature who is ready to sacrifice you for the greater good, but that's not so. I'd do anything to protect you for as long as I can. It is inevitable for me to protect you from Voldemort forever, so all I can do is prepare you and ready you for the battle so that you may come out the victor. Not for me, not for the world, but for yourself and all those that love you."
Harry felt his resolve to be wary towards Dumbledore wavering, after all, the man had been his hero ever since he was eleven, "Thank you, Professor. It really wasn't bad, er, with Snape. I think that things will work out, at least now that that part is over."
"Over?" Dumbledore raised an eyebrow, "Harry you have to keep the connection strong, which means that an intimate relationship, even if love is absent at first, must be kept to keep the bond satisfied."
The Gryffindor slumped low in his chair, "Great. I mean, it's not that it was bad or anything, but... It's Snape. He hates me and my family, and the sentimate is returned."
Dumbledore shook his head, marveling over the pain that Harry and Severus put themselves through for no reason, "He doesn't hate you Harry, but he is caught up in hating the past, and sometimes it's hard for a person to put the past behind them. Perhaps you can help him with that seeing as you have quite a past yourself."
Harry snorted, "I doubt that he'd want my help, but since I have to be around him I'll see what I can do."
"Oh, and one more thing, you'll be moving into his quarters. I've added on to his rooms so that you'll have your own room." Dumbledore spoke placidly, knowing that Harry wouldn't like his relocation, but feeling it necessary to ensure the safety of his student.
"But why?!" Harry said in exasperation, "Do I have to give my whole life to him? The only normalcy left in my life was Hogwarts and now I must give that up as well?" At the look on the Headmaster's face and the answering silence, Harry sighed in frustration.
"I'm sorry, Harry, but with the special classes and training that you will be taking to harness the powers presented by the bond, I feel that this is best." Dumbledore spoke firmly but sympathetically. "Forgive me for being cliché and using a quote, but as Gandalf said 'All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us'."
This made Harry grin as he stood, "Yes, but don't forget Professor Dumbledore, 'Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger'."
Dumbledore's eyes twinkled, "I'll remember this, and promise to try and keep my meddling between you and Severus to a low."
Harry laughed, "Yeah. See you at the opening feast, Professor."

"It seems that you can't get rid of me." Harry said as he entered Snape's chambers.
"Hm, yes, I was given the nice surprise of watching the house elves bring your things in." Snape said around a sneer, a small glass of scotch in his hand.
Harry looked around the room and found that it was decorated just as nicely as Snape Manor. The furnishings were rich and green, but a soothing forest green that made Harry feel instantly relaxed. "So is the green a result of your Slytherin side?" He questioned conversationally, although he had a feeling that Snape wasn't much for small talk.
"No," Snape said, surprising Harry, "the color green inspires thought and when I'm here working with inapt wizards," he shot Harry a pointed look, "or working on my next spying project, I need clear strong thoughts."
Harry nodded his head slowly, "It's a very soothing color." He shuffled his feet, unsure of what to do next.
Severus looked at Harry, standing in the middle of his room and once again couldn't believe that the Gryffindor was becoming a part of his life. "Well, have a seat since you're going to be here for a while."
Harry, who'd been waiting for the invitation to sit down, flopped onto a large, overstuffed couch that was soft and fuzzy and immediately made his eyes droop, "I'm tired." He said without thinking, the emotions and stress of the past weeks catching up to him.
"Sleep then, the feast doesn't start for a few hours yet." Severus commented as he finished off his glass of scotch and set the empty cup down on a table, the china making a soft 'clink'.
When Harry looked up at Snape the two men locked eyes. It was as if something passed between them, both would later blame it on the bonding as Severus removed his outer robes and moved onto the couch with Harry, his arms wrapping around the seeker's body, "I am tired as well." He said simply.
Harry didn't say anything, but snuggled into the front of Severus' chest, his fingers burrowing into the man's sweater as he closed his eyes and allowed the sound of Snape's heartbeat to lull him into a warm sleep.

"Potter! Get up, we're going to be late!" Snape snapped as he rolled from the couch and slipped back into his robes.
Harry rolled over in a sleepy daze and somehow managed to drag himself off the couch, knowing how badly his robes looked in their wrinkled condition, "Damn, stupid robes. "
With a long-suffering role of his eyes, Snape muttered a spell that had Harry's robes pressed free of wrinkles. Slipping back into his own black robes, Severus led the way out of the portal, black robes billowing around him as he and Harry hurried in the direction fo the Great Hall.
When they reached the large double doors of the Great Hall, the Head of Slytherin opened the doors and went through first, causing hundreds of eyes to turn in their direction as Harry trailed behind Severus and then branched off and went to his customary seat with Ron and Hermione. Murmurs ran rampant throughout the Great Hall as they wondered what Harry Potter had been doing with Severus Snape before school had even began. Most of the Gryffindors groaned, certain that Harry had already been losing points from Gryffindor.
From where he'd been talking, Dumbledore couldn't stop the twinkling of his eyes as he watched the pair enter together. When Snape had seated himself, Dumbledore continued with his speech, which had been interrupted by their arrival, "I'd like to leave you with a few words to begin your year at Hogwarts: chronicle, bat, orange, and guppy. Let the feasting commence!"
With that the golden plates filled with food and a roar of conversation rose up from the four long tables in the Great Hall.
"Where were you Harry?" Hermione asked.
"Er, I fell asleep with Snape on his couch." Harry murmured quietly to her, surprising himself at how odd it sounded to hear himself say that.
Ron, his eyes bulging at the words, began choking on a large bite of chicken pie that he'd shoved into his mouth. Hermione, rolling her eyes, promptly popped Ron on the back with her hand and turned her attention back to Harry as Ron coughed, and gulped down some pumpkin juice.
"So I take it that things are going well between you two?" Hermione asked.
"Yeah, I guess so. It's really pretty much the same except for that." Harry muttered, not really wanting to discuss it with Hermione and Ron, even though they were his two closest friends.
From the staff table Severus allowed his eyes to move along the Gryffindor table until he spotted his young bondmate and the other two Gryffindor brats. In the past when Severus had looked down at the Gryffindor table, all he had seen was the smug faces of James Potter and Sirius Black as they leered at him, but now when he looked, he only saw one person. Harry.

When the feast was over Dumbledore gave a few more words and then the students made a rush to the doors, their house prefects leading them up the stairs to give them the password that would allow them into their common house.
Harry stopped at the foot of the staircase and Ron and Hermione turned to face him, "Are you coming, Harry?"
The Boy Who Lived shook his head, "I have to stay with Snape."
This time Harry was sure that Ron would pass out on the steps, and he probably would have if Hermione hadn't cuffed him in the back of the head, "Okay then, we'll see you tomorrow morning at breakfast." With that the girl practically dragged Ron up the stairs, her scolding voice reaching Harry's ears as they disappeared with the rest of the students.
"Lost, Potter?" A voice said just behind him.
Turning, Harry found Severus, tall and formidable in his black robes, "No, just staying good bye." With that Harry and Severus walked towards the dungeons together, both wondering what excuse they would have to supply so that the rest of the student body didn't go crazy when they heard that Harry Potter was staying in Severus Snape's room.
