Tapping her fingers in sync of the beat belting out of the radio (a little indulgence that Amy liked to allow herself and when she could take full advantage of it…. She did), Amy crossed one foot over the other. She wanted to swing them back and forth from her perch on top of the old dis-used student desk lost in the heap of other un-wanted school materials stuffed in the abandoned and forgotten room inside Hogwarts, but slightly worried… The table could hold her weight, but Amy wasn’t going to chance it.
And she certainly wouldn’t dare when she knew that ending up on her ass due to the collapse of the desk…
Well, she hardly wanted to add to the amusement of the Males in front of her.
They had had more than enough of that already today. Amy wasn’t quite sure why the Elders had thought today was a good day to pull all of them aside to do an impromptu search on their belongings (it wasn’t as if Amy, Oli, Anto, Penny and Cedric had been acting in any way more secretive today or during the previous couple of days either), but to find themselves stopped before they had even reached their First Class…
It had even been before any of them could get to breakfast. A very hard point for Oli (who enjoyed his food and despite the amount he put away during every meal, it still was able to be burned off by all his Quidditch and therefore didn’t add to his width), and he had made sure that the Elders were more than aware of this.
That had done nothing to the already fraying tempers of the Elders. They seemed, just like the Weasley Kata and the Black Rose Kata, just as annoyed at the early morning hour (Oli had muttered that obviously that none of the Professors had gotten their hands on their coffee/tea/energy drink beforehand) and it had only taken ten minutes before…
Amy blamed Oli for all of that. What in Merlin’s name had possessed him to think that it would be a good idea to hint that maybe, just maybe, they had a new ball of –interesting items- in their hands? The Elders were already on tender hooks because they knew that the Christmas Holidays were fast approaching and they knew –exactly- how Members of the Black Rose and Weasley Kata always celebrated them. And to then put that little red flag in front of the bull Elders…?
It had successfully managed to keep the Elders from their original reason for raiding them and all of their belongings. Professor Minerva McGonegall had become so infuriated at being –teased- that there was already a prank in the works (a known fact by the Elders but still…) and within moments of finding out that none of the materials were on any of the Young Ones, or hidden in their bedrooms (along with any of the other places that the Elders had found such items for pranks before)…
Well, there was the argument that Oli was obviously fighting for.
Though why he would be in such a mood (even with the delay of getting food into his belly) was anyone’s guess. Oli could hardly answer it later on, after the Elders had finally let them go and they all had rushed to The Great Hall in order to grab the last few morsels left on the tables, and Amy was… It was a slight pity that she couldn’t show him –exactly- how annoyed she was at him at the moment. Silence could only carry any of them so far, and Amy needed to be able to add those little physical movements to get her point across.
Properly at least.
She had gotten some-what of an apology from him before they had all dashed to their first classes of the day. Not exactly an after-thought, despite the rush for all of them to at least not be noticeably late for the actual part of school, and that was what had saved him Amy throwing a spell after him.
Amy pursed her lips.
One of those –delightful- ones that tracked the intended victim, ran them down and then exploded.
There had really been no reason for Anto to shoot her a look as if that would be enough to dissuade her if she was really angry at Oli. But Anto…
Well, he’d been a bit more –annoyed- at Oli for that little trick than Amy was. He’d threatened to kick Oli to the Gryffindor Common Room couch for the next couple of days because of the stunt and as he was the Mate to Oli…
Anto could always –hurt- Oli more deeply than Amy ever could, despite the fact that Amy was Oli’s Alpha Female. But…that was how it was.
Any could so the same against Bill and Charlie whenever they decided to do something that pissed off the rest of the Kata.
‘Bloody Hell,’ growled Oli, as he thumped his right foot against the leg of the desk three times in lieu of the crash of the cymbals in the music.
Amy ever so slightly cocked her head at that scene.
A closet heavy metal fan.
New heavy metal almost Goth music fan, which made the entire thought…funnier.
Every now and then, it was possible to expand Oli’s taste in music. He claimed that he only liked Rock (bands from the Eighties such as Queen), a few particular Scottish bands (Amy generally didn’t pay much attention to them as they just…weren’t ones she were interested in), along with some lesser known American ones. It took quite a bit of shoving and mind tricks to get him to even hint that maybe, just maybe, he was interested in the…less typical ones for an Oli Woods to know and like.
‘You are objecting to the music that much?’ said Anto, as he narrowly avoided at looking at the chess board sat in front of him.
A good choice as if any of those chess pieces realised that they were once again being given any attention…
The game was on hold for a reason.
Oli sent Anto a glare.
‘Considering I chose the music-‘ Oli said.
Anto’s snort cut him off.
‘No, you didn’t choose the music,’ interrupted Anto. ‘You chose the station out of the many ones Amy has got programmed into that radio.’
Oli rolled his eyes.
‘Considering what music there was available…’ he said.
Amy gave a low growl.
‘Are you now going to start yet another argument over what I like as music?’ she said softly. ‘After what happened the last time you decided to try and fiddle with my music stations?’
‘We weren’t trying to do anything to cruel too your radio,’ said Oli, raising his eyes to the ceiling as if that would be the answer to what he viewed as a conversation that was a dead-end. ‘We told you that when-‘
‘I found the lot of you sitting around in a crappy and disorganised circle,’ said Amy, ‘with my poor radio laying in pieces around you.’
‘Oh for the love of…’ said Oli, adding in the throwing of his hands up in the air. ‘There was nothing wrong with it!’
‘In the end!’ interrupted Amy, narrowing her eyes. ‘And that was after I chased all of you out of that room, retrieved all the pieces and then spent hours putting it all back together again!’
‘It wasn’t hours!’ said Oli.
‘Oli!’ cut in Anto. ‘Give up! She could still be insisting that it took days for her to get that radio of hers working again.’
Oli snorted.
‘It didn’t!’ he said.
‘Only because none of you managed to do too much damage to it!’ said Amy.
‘I thought we caused days of extra work on your part?’ said Oli, ‘to repair the damage?’
‘I just said hours, Oli!’ said Amy.
‘My poor ears!’ screeched the voice of what Amy all too easily recognised as belonging to the White Queen.
Amy closed her eyes, the nearly un-godly high pitch of the White Queen resonating in her head, bouncing around a little and giving her… It just wasn’t fair.
Amy shouldn’t be suffering any effects left over from the Full Moon. She shouldn’t. And yet this bloody persistent pain in her head just…wouldn’t go away.
And damn it if she was going to go back to Healer Poppy Pomphrey and tell the Healer so. The Medi-Witch was still hounding her, despite the fact that Amy had been discharged from the Hospital Wing over a week ago. The Healer believed that the Full Moon effects hadn’t ever settled to a more suitable level, and…
Amy would almost swear that Healer Poppy Pomphrey was only a step away from approaching the Elders about the Medi-Witch’s concerns.
Amy couldn’t allow that.
She wouldn’t allow that.
She was –not- going to end up back in the bloody Hospital Wing.
‘How is there any possibility of the silence needed to ensure a good game of chess?’ added on the voice of the White Queen, ‘when two of you insist on shrieking? If you would simply pull your attention to what is more important, the lady can return to the game!’
Amy gave a soft snort.
It was best to just ignore any of the chess pieces, especially in the case of the White and/or Black Queens. Or if there was to be any escape of noise or movement in regard to the chess pieces… Then best to hide that as well.
That was, of course, what the White Queen, and undoubtedly the rest of the pieces as well lounging, sitting or talking among themselves on the chess board, believed were more important. The entire situation regarding Amy and her love over her radio would be nothing more than a little footnote.
Despite the fact that all the chess pieces did enjoy having the music resounding in the background as a game was played.
But that was neither here or there, in the White Queen’s opinion.
-Well, well- suddenly cut in the voice of Charlie through Silence –Seems like I owe Bill money-
‘You owe Bill money?’ said Oli. ‘Why in Merlin’s name would you willingly agree to…? Unless it wasn’t… Did you do it under duress? Might be able to get you free of the terms of the agreement If it was.’
Bill’s chuckles suddenly filled Amy’s head.
-Don’t listen to him- Bill added –He believed that he’d catch the three of you in a nice, calm conversation. I bet otherwise-
Amy snorted.
‘Exactly what state did –you- think we would be in?’ muttered Amy.
Truthfully, Amy would have thought that Bill and Charlie would have expected there to be some kind of heated conversation when they Connected through Half-Silence to the other three Kata Members. There had been no conversation, so far, over Amy’s little trip to The Ministry, and so…
She had expected that this discussion would all be about that.
Amy’s mouth quirked.
Maybe they were slowly leading up to that? Trying to approach it slowly in the hope that it wouldn’t…end up into a fighting argument.
Highly unlikely.
Tempers ran high over…safety.
Professor Minerva McGonegall had been right on that point.
-Having an argument- said Bill slowly, and it was undoubtedly deliberate that he almost sounded…contemplative –but the fact that it is on Amy’s radio…-
And there was the very obvious smile over it all.
‘You are not getting your hands on it,’ said Amy.
All she needed was for Bill to have it in his possession. Despite the amount of threats Amy had uttered at him if he –ever- touched his radio, beginning from Back Then and continuing on through their return, Bill still made attempts…
And yes, he hadn’t since a few days before his own Graduation but if Bill was given a chance…
And he wasn’t above pulling in the rest of the Kata as well either.
Damn bastard that he was.
-Oh Ami- said Bill –Since it gives you such pleasure I have promised not to try and change your radio in any way-
Amy growled.
‘And I have told you that I don’t trust you with that promise,’ she said.
-Ami- said Bill, and Amy could already picture Bill with his hands over his heart to start the entire wounded and hurt look –I am shocked that you would think so little of me-
‘Only because I know you, Bill,’ said Amy. ‘And I know what you are capable of.’
-Aw- said Bill –so you do remember-
-If the pair of you are quite finished- interrupted Charlie’s voice –Bill, stop flirting with her-
Bill snorted.
-Why shouldn’t I?- said Bill –She’s my Mate-
-Yes, and just because the pair of you haven’t managed to share time together- said Charlie –doesn’t mean that you need to express this when there are others listening-
Bill chuckled.
-I am quite sure that you will have your own time with her- said Bill –if you want it. We will arrange something, you can bet on that-
-I do not need your help to be with my Mate, Bill- said Charlie.
Bill’s laughter grew louder.
-I’d never try to infringe on that- he said.
‘Do the pair of you mind?’ said Oli, with a low groan. ‘I know that the distance between the three of you make it difficult, and the fact that the Elders are being so damn restrictive over when you can meet up, but the ones not involved in your Kanzai would prefer to not hear you teasing each other about the plans.’
-You are the one who is kicking up a fuss about all of this?- said Bill –Weren’t you the one that forced us to help you plan a point by point, detailed arrangement of a date between yourself and your Mate?-
Oli sniffed.
‘Completely different,’ he said.
-Uh-huh- said Bill –of course-
Oli rolled his eyes.
‘Fuck off!’ he muttered.
-Tut. Tut. Tut- said Bill –Such language. Too much time spent around Josh obviously. The Elders will not be happy-
Oli’s growl thundered louder in his throat.
‘I seem to remember that it was you who conspired with Josh about the sudden change of comfortable state in The Great Hall,’ he said. ‘Not me.’
Bill snorted.
‘That was years ago,’ he said.
‘The Elders still remember,’ said Oli, giving the leg of the table a kick with his heel.
It swayed slightly, as Amy rolled her eyes before slipping her wand out from her arm holster and into her fingers. If the table did decide to give away because Oli had taken out his anger over the current topic of the conversation, Amy would at least make sure that he wasn’t hurt.
Or, at least, badly hurt.
Well, more so physically noticeable that ones who were not part of the Weasley Kata and the Black Rose Kata. Though the line would have to be drawn with Oli and Other Quidditch.
Amy wasn’t going to ease his wounds enough that he couldn’t fly. That would take way too much trouble for her to go through all that.
And it was hardly as if Anto would be helping her. He had enough worry without adding Oli’s own stupidity.
-Course they do- said Bill –Keep a little notebook and everything-
‘Still have no proof of that,’ muttered Amy.
Every now and then, the Older Members of the Weasley Kata and the Black Rose Kata swore blind that the Elders had an ability of special magic (that they wouldn’t tell anyone else about it, and the older Males had tried everything to get it out of the Elders, or at least hinted more about) that allowed them to memorise the most trivial events (as the old Males would put it despite the destruction any of their –ideas- caused) and therefore give them the annoying habit of being able to pull out each and every little –problem- that the two Katas –might- have caused.
Amy was of the opinion, on the other hand, that between the collective memory of all the Elders, and their Guardians, they remembered pretty much everything the two Katas did. Some bits of course did slip their minds, but to the older Members of the Katas…that didn’t matter that much.
-Only because it has been ordered by our wonderful Alpha Female that we are not allowed to continue our search to prove that- said Bill.
And there was the all-knowing, almost smirk of Bill’s creeping into his Tone. Slightly mocking Amy for her insistence on Bill and Charlie (she had less influence on Josh and Brian unfortunately and Penny, despite her best efforts, didn’t have enough levy against her Males to stop them) to not annoy the Elders further by trying to find this –mythical- (of course her Brothers flatly refused to think it as such. They were certain it was real and nothing Amy could say would change their mind) notebook.
She had been forced to resort to…
Well, this…
‘Until you give me a good reason for why any time should be wasted on this hidden record,’ said Amy, ‘you have promised that you will cease any activity regarding that notebook.’
-Refusing to listen to any of our reasons doesn’t count against us- said Bill.
‘It does when you begin the conversation with those words,’ said Amy. ‘Exactly how in Merlin’s name did you believe that beginning it with: -Have you ever wondered if cheese could be used as a stink bomb?- would, in any way, convince me that you had a new good idea?’
-If you had simply allowed me to continue- replied Bill –then maybe it would have become clear-
Amy snorted as she rolled her eyes.
‘I highly doubt that,’ she muttered.
-Sorry Ami- said Bill –but you can’t make that kind of statement without something to back it up. And refusing to listen doesn’t count-
Amy sighed.
Here they went again.
Bill just refused to bloody…
‘Bill,’ said Amy, ‘as I explained before. You had two choices. Either you could continue that train of thought of yours and you would end up really pissing me off or… Or you could see sense, drop the subject and not lose that small bit of leeway I allowed you to have.’
-You’re not going to win this one either, Bill- cut in Charlie’s voice with his deep weary sigh.
Bill snorted.
-This one is not one that I will lose- he growled, though it was carefully tempered as he was up against the Alpha Female, who even he recognised was not in the mood for one of those –fun- conversations.
-You will- said Charlie.
Amy’s eyebrow rose.
Now what did that mean? The pair of them was talking in their own little codes of a past conversation only between the two of them and…
It was annoying the bloody hell annoying for her though.
And yes, it was quite normal for not all conversations between Members of the Kata, and with their Allies to be made public to anyone else. They didn’t insist on knowing everything about each other, but still…
To wave it so tauntingly in front of her…
Made her bloody well wanting to stick her nose where it probably didn’t belong just to… find out what ever it was.
‘And what, exactly?’ said Amy, ‘does Bill believe that he can win?’
A slight pause.
The softest of touches. The encroaching of anger/exhaustion/pain and annoyance against Amy’s body.
It was someone’s feelings. Who, Amy wasn’t exactly sure and yet…
She could guess, probably with no one taking the bet against her, that it was either Bill and/or Charlie.
-Another matter- said Charlie eventually, still slightly hesitant as though…
Whatever it was, it was a doozy. A proverbial can of worms that would…
Should Amy really try to continue probing what it was Bill and Charlie were trying to hide?
The pressure of Bill’s strong response to this built against her head. It was almost the foggy, cotton-wool feeling of when Amy was badly sick, infiltrating all of her Senses and just making her feel…dumb.
Slow.
Sluggish.
Felt bloody awful.
What was it-?
‘And what, exactly?’ said Oli, his voice purring into a very strong Scottish accent again, ‘is this matter?’
-One that will be discussed at another time- said Charlie, his voice growing stronger as he asserted his…
This was undoubtedly a sign of Charlie’s Voice of Reason. His clear message that…
‘So not Amy’s little mis-adventure with the New idiot and his Lapdogs?’ murmured Oli.
No, highly doubtful.
Bill and Charlie wouldn’t be able to keep themselves from…
-Another time, Oli- hissed Charlie.
Dear Merlin.
So, it was…
Amy swallowed.
Eyes were suddenly swung on her. Anto’s concern shining through as he watched her…
He was watching for anything.
Anything that would…
And not something Amy could allow Anto to see.
Merlin, Amy wasn’t sure, Merlin she didn’t have a clue, of how this arrangement had been made between Bill and Charlie. But Bill wasn’t happy about it.
Not exactly un-willing, but Bill…
Shit.
She had known that the rest of her Kata wouldn’t be pleased with her. But this…?
This was worse reaction to it than she had thought. Worse than what she had even feared…
Amy allowed herself to briefly close her eyes in a flutter.
She had a big deep load of shit heading her way.
And the fact that it was some time in her future, of a date that had been predetermined by Bill and Charlie that she wasn’t aware of…made it worse.
Fuck.
