Severus struggled not to grin as he walked down the school corridor, Lucius Malfoy at his side. Heads turned and students whispered behind their hands as their heavy footsteps echoed off the castle's stone walls. Risking a glance to his right, Severus saw that Lucius' countenance oozed aristocratic self confidence, his handsome face set in a bored scowl. His blonde hair and his black cape flowed behind him as he walked purposefully down the center of the hall. Severus matched his long strides and schooled his own face into a disinterested glare. His own black velvet robes, a graduation gift from Lucius, billowed behind him. They were two Wizard's to watch, powerful and in command. Hell, they were bad bloody ass and everyone could see it. Severus struggled again not to smile, he didn't want to spoil the affect by grinning like a git.

"I'll wait here." Lucius said, leaning causally against the wall when they had reached the door leading to headmaster's office.

"It shouldn't take too long." Severus said. Along with his NEWT scores he had received a formal request to report to Dumbledore's office. Lucius had decided to accompany him to Hogwarts and after the meeting they would be portkeying to Tuscany for holiday. Another gift to celebrate Severus' release from Hogwarts.

"Take your time." Lucius drawled, casually spinning his snaked headed cane between his fingers.

"Come in, come in." Dumbledore smiled brightly when Severus reached the top of the stairs. Glancing around the room he saw Professor Slughorn, the Minister of Magic and to his chagrin, Poppy Pomfrey. "I'm sure you're wondering why I asked you here today, let me turn it over to the Minister and he will explain everything."

The Minister stood and cleared his throat officially, a roll parchment clutched tightly in his hand. "Mr. Snape as I'm sure you are aware, the Ministry takes great pride in the graduating Wizards and Witches of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It is with that in mind, that I present you with this Certificate of Outstanding Achievement." Severus took the rolled parchment from the Minister's outstretched hand. "Congratulations young man, you have received the highest NEWT scores in the history of Hogwarts. You should be very proud of yourself."

"Thank you." Severus whispered, unrolling the parchment and glancing at the official looking document.

"Have you any plans for your future?" The Minister asked, shaking his hand firmly.

"No Sir, I haven't made any firm decisions yet."

"Well whatever you decide I'm sure you will be a great success."

"Thank you, Sir."

Severus descended the stairs slowly and stepped out into the corridor. Lucius met his gaze curiously. Taking a step towards his friend, Severus waved the rolled parchment in the air. "It seems I received the highest NEWT scores in the history of Hogwarts." He said in answer to Lucius' unspoken question. Before he could reach the blonde wizard a soft voice called out from behind him.

"Severus?"

"Poppy?" He turned, warmth flooding through him at the sight of her.

"I won't keep you." She said, her eyes cast towards the ground. "I just wanted to give you this." He took the parchment from her hand and carefully unfolded it. "It's a letter of recommendation."

Severus' eyes quickly scanned the letter. Words like 'brilliant', 'efficient' 'most talented young Wizard' jumped off the page at him. "Thank you." He said, his voice catching in his throat. "You didn't have to do this for me."

"Yes I did." She said, smiling up at him. "And every word of it is true. You are a brilliant and talented Wizard Severus."

"Poppy..." He said, taking a step closer to her. "I'm so sorry for the way I acted, the things I said."

"Shhhh." She placed her fingertip to his lips. "You don't need to apologize. What happened between us...never should have happened. It was my mistake." She gazed up and him, a sad smile on her face. "But I don't regret a minute of it."

"Neither do I." He stepped forward and wrapped his arms around the small woman, pressing his lips to hers. Their tongues rubbed gently together for a moment before they broke apart. "I'll never forget you Poppy." He whispered in her ear, hugging her tightly to him.

"Severus." A deep voice called from behind them. Poppy opened her eyes and gazed over Severus' shoulder. Her clear blue eyes met cool gray ones. Lucius inclined his head briefly, a smug smile turning up the corners of his mouth. "Let's go. We've got a portkey to catch." He said softly, his eyes never leaving Poppy's.

"I have to go." Severus said, breaking the hug. "Lucius is waiting."

"I know." Poppy said softly, her voice thick with unshed tears. Reaching up she brushed a piece of invisible lint off his elegant velvet robes. "You be careful Severus and remember, if you ever need a friend I'm here for you."

"I will." He said, kissing her quickly on the cheek. "And thanks again."

Spinning on his heel, he turned and joined Lucius. Poppy watched, tears streaming down her face as the two young Wizards strode cockily down the corridor and out of sight.

"Goodbye Severus." She whispered softly, her voice echoing in the empty hallway. "Be careful."
