“Draco?” Snape greeted with clear confusion. “What’s the matter?”
“I need another of those potions,” Draco said as he entered Snape’s rooms and sat down in one of the chairs.Snape frowned. “You just took one the other day. The effects are supposed to last a week.”“Well, it’s not working,” Draco said as he slumped backwards in a way his mother would greatly disapprove of. His leg bounced up and down quickly in an uncharacteristic show of nerves. “I was just in the library and I just about bewitched Potter.”Snape’s eyebrow went up almost to his hairline. “Why was Potter so close to you that you almost bewitched him?” he asked as he took the chair opposite his favorite student and godson.Draco dug into his pocket and pulled out a vial. “Wanted to give me this. He’s on one of his stupid savior trips. Found that when snooping around the fourth floor. Couldn’t come up with a way to give it to you without outright saying he was snooping around though. So he gave it to me,” Draco explained as he put it on the nearby coffee table. “He knows about the baby.”Snape’s eyes flashed dangerously. “How would he know about that?” he asked in a near hiss. Draco could tell the man’s protective instinct was rising quickly. Though Snape wasn’t one to protect just anyone once he found someone he liked he turned out to be quite a mother bear about it.“He walked in on one of my check ups with Pomfrey. I guess without my shirt on all the way it’s kind of obvious,” Draco said as he lowered a hand to his stomach. “But I can’t be bewitching Potter. Think of all the trouble that would cause. I need the potion to work.”“Draco, I can’t give you anymore Suppression Potion until next week. It would be dangerous for you and the baby. Now, have you almost bewitched anyone else? Or just Potter?” Snape asked.Draco shook his head slightly. “Just Potter. He didn’t say anything but the way he was looking at me said enough.”“Maybe this is a good thing,” Snape mused.Draco shot the older man a glare. “How could this possibly be a good thing?” he demanded.“Draco… you are not married. Nor do you have any stable lover. Bringing a child to term without a significant other is dangerous. You’ll need someone to share the burden of carrying the child,” Snape said. “You’ll need more than your own energy and Potter has already shown to have more than a little to spare. Not to mention a bleeding heart. It might be wisest to bewitch him at least until your own situation stabilizes.”Draco frowned and looked off to the side. “I don’t want to seduce Potter.”“It’s not about seducing Potter,” Snape said. “I would never encourage you to do something like that. But… if the potion is already wearing off after only a few days the baby is taking far more of your energy than we expected. That is very dangerous for your health. You’ll need a supplement and unless you’d rather depend on Crabbe and Goyle…” Draco made a disgusted face at that. “You’ll have to find someone else that is suitable.”Draco sat back and sighed. “The problem is… whoever I get will have to hang around the whole time. And then afterwards they’re going to expect something more,” Draco pointed out.Snape nodded in agreement. There were several long minutes of silence. “Are you changing your mind about the baby?” he asked softly. “It is dangerous to your health and very few know about it. You could still-”“No!” Draco snapped. “I will not kill him.”Snape didn’t look surprised. “Then you’ll need to find someone to share the burden Draco. Why not Potter? He would actually be useful for once instead of misguided and in the way.”“Because… he’ll just move on to a new pet project at some point!” Draco protested.“Wouldn’t that be what you want?” Snape asked. “If you don’t want someone expecting more after the baby is born why not someone who will invariably move on?”Draco sighed heavily and leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees and then his face in his hands. This was a mess. An utter mess and no answer was really the ideal. Either way he was taking a huge risk. “I suppose… if nobody knew he was helping me nobody would assume he got me knocked up and left…”“Are you worrying about his reputation or yours?” Snape asked curiously.“Mine, of course,” Draco said even though he wasn’t really looking to damage Harry’s either. Not like that. Draco sighed again and straightened in his seat. “I guess I’ll have to think about it. Maybe Father will have a better answer for me… I’ll write to him tonight.”Snape frowned even as he reached for the empty vial that Draco had brought. “You know what his answer will be. He is very much against you carrying this baby in the first place. It is too dangerous and without knowing the father he’ll have little choice but to publicly denounce it. The Dark Lord would never let one of his strongest supporters live if his son were to give birth to anything other than a pure blood. There’s no way to prove the child is a pureblood.”Draco closed his eyes tight. “I know… Mother’s already planning a place for me to go once the baby’s born. I know I’ll have to lose everything but I just can’t do it. I can’t kill him Uncle Severus.”There was a long silence until Snape sighed and went to sit on the arm of Draco’s chair. He wrapped an arm around the boy who was being forced to grow up far too fast. “I know. It’s only natural for a Cygnaien. But single parenthood is not.”“I’ll manage…”“I’m sure you will,” Snape agreed. “But do not be shocked if you end up needing the help you’re reluctant to get.”Draco nodded a bit and, after a moment of taking the rarely offered comfort from Snape, got to his feet. “I should go. Dinner should be soon and I’ll be kicking myself if I miss it. I feel like Crabbe and Goyle with how much I’ve been eating lately,” he said with a slightly sour look on his face. “Honestly… why do babies have to make you so dratted hungry anyway?”Snape hid his amusement well. “I’ve never been in a situation to find out.”“Consider yourself lucky,” Draco muttered before heading towards the door. He only made it the first few feet before Crabbe and Goyle joined him. The two lugs instantly took up post on either side of him. “Still playing guards are you?” Draco asked without looking over at them.“We don’t want anything to happen to you,” Crabbe said. Goyle nodded in agreement instantly. “What did you have to talk to Snape about anyway?”Draco waved the question off some. “Don’t worry about it. Just… complications. I’ll figure it out.” His two friends exchanged an uneasy look but knew better than to ask any further questions. If Draco felt like sharing he would but they wouldn’t get anywhere by asking. Not with how little Draco had been sharing with them after the rape. He’d never been quite as tight lipped as he’d become now.“You’re not going to make your father have to kill us are you?” Crabbe asked the Malfoy heir uneasily.Draco smirked some and tossed Crabbe an amused look. “Afraid are you?”“No,” Crabbe answered, rather unconvincingly.Draco chuckled a bit but didn’t challenge the claim. He knew his friends well enough to know that his father greatly scared them. Especially since they’d heard stories from their own parents about what his father could do to someone. It didn’t lend to wanting to piss the elder Malfoy off. “Don’t worry boys. I’m not looking to get myself hurt at all. Quite the opposite, in fact.”While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
