Later that afternoon Hermione and Draco were in the library when Harry and Ron came in, Ron looking annoyed. Hermione looked up at him and instantly shrunk under his gaze. They sat down across the table from them and when Draco closed his book and looked up they spoke.
“What's going on Hermione?”
“What do you mean Ron?” she asked.
“You know what I mean! Alex and Khira seem to both be happy about something and were saying now you guys are ready for phase two of your training. What the bloody hell is going on?!” he yelled, and Draco noticed the two older women were at the door.
“It doesn't matter-”
“I'm not talking to you ferret!” he yelled, cutting the blond off.
“Ron calm down!” Harry said, pushing the redhead into his seat and turning to them, “What's going on 'Mione?”
“Harry I don't know why Alex and Khira are acting that way and I don't know what they meant. All I know is that things are changing and I see them changing for the better.”
“For nearly two weeks the two of you looked like you were sick 'Mione, then all the sudden today you're both fine after Alex left. Explain that.”
“We've been stressed-”
“That's a load of bollocks Hermione!” Ron said suddenly, “You study more than anyone at Hogwarts and just a small amount of training has you stressed? Not bloody likely.”
“If I tell you the truth, you have to promise to not go overboard” she looked directly at Ron, and then turned to Harry, “Also you need to promise not to hate me.”
“I never could hate you 'Mione. I promise” Harry said with a small smile.
“Ron do you promise to at least listen and not fly off the handle?” she asked quietly.
“I can try Hermione. That's the best you'll get.”
“Hand over your wands then” they turned and saw Alex was standing behind the two boys, with her hand stretched out.
“What?”
“Hand them over” she said, motioning for them to do so, “All four of you. Afterwards I will explain further on what you heard in the hall earlier, while you two were under that blasted invisibility cloak.”
“How did you know about that?” Harry asked, handing his wand over, followed by Draco and Hermione.
“I can see auras Harry and you two stood out like beacons under that cloak” she said, looking at Ron, “Your wand?”
“Why should we hand them over?”
“I don't want to have to clean up another mess in MY library like the one from last month” she stated evenly.
“Fine” Ron growled, handing his over as well.
“Alright Harry, Ron” Hermione paused, watching as Alex sat in a lounge chair behind them, “Lately there's been some changes between us and we talked it over earlier. Draco and I believe we both might be each others mates.”
“WHAT?!” Ron roared, instantly standing and his face going red as a tomato.
“I'm sorry Ron but it's the truth” she said quietly.
“You expect me to believe this load of bollocks?” he growled, focusing on the blond in front of him.
“Believe it or not Weasley, it is the truth” Draco said, glaring at the redhead.
“WHY YOU?! WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE YOU?!” he yelled, turning away.
“Mates are only matched with someone-”
“I KNOW! I know why but why HIM!” he yelled, glaring at Alex and she returned his glare.
“He's most compatible to her” she said, ignoring his insult.
“Yeah right” he said, glaring at Draco, before walking away from the table, and towards the window.
“I'm not stupid Weasley. I know you've liked her for a while now” she called behind him and he turned to look over his shoulder at her, “You need to accept that this is how things are going to be. Regardless of what you felt for her, you two are not right for each other. Just think about it and you'll see it. You and her barely can hold a conversation unless its about quidditch, or something similar. You two are complete opposites. Draco on the other hand is not. He can hold conversations with her that are both intellectual and entertaining. This isn't something you can control. It is something you need to get over and accept.”
“It isn't fair” he said so quietly only Alex heard him, and in a flash she was standing next to him.
“I know it isn't, but if you truly love her the way I see you do, you'll do what is right, and let her have this” she said quietly so only he could hear.
“What if he hurts her-”
“She cannot be hurt by her mate remember?” she said.
“What if he isn't though? Besides you can hurt Khira” he stated, frowning.
“Yes there is a chance they are not mates, but at this time we can only speculate. The creature sides will show the truth one way or another. As for me hurting Khira, there is a difference in hurting and punishing in the vampire bonds. The vampire inside me demanded I punish Khira. Draco and Hermione both do not have that problem like me and Khira do.”
“So Malfoy can never hurt her, physically or otherwise?” he asked.
“If they truly are mates. There will be days they fight, everyone does. He cannot harm her physically though. To do so would kill him emotionally” she explained and the redhead nodded, turning to stare at Hermione.
“I need to think about this Hermione. Just to get used to it” he said and she nodded, standing up.
“I know Ron. That's all I ask” she said, walking over and hugging him.
“Now, onto the reason Khira and I were so joyful this morning” Alex said, motioning for them to sit, doing the same and folding her hands on the table, placing the wands in front of her.
“What is stage two of our training?” Hermione asked.
“The original air and earth elements were actually a mated veela couple. We speculated you two might be mates the same as they were. So until we found out the exact details of the relationship with you both, we decided to only teach you defensive techniques. That changes today since you'll be learning offensive as well from now on.” she said, just as Khira came in holding a large tome in her hands.
“Alex is going to be teaching you and Draco how to use damaging spells Hermione” she said, sitting next to her wife.
“When will Harry and Ron join us?” she asked.
“Harry needs to get Occlumency training finished with, and Ron needs to finish with a few more healing spells.”
“She said she can see Auras...can she see all of ours?” Khira nodded to answer her, “Are you allowed to tell us?”
“I can, but auras can change dramatically as time goes on. Draco's used to be dark green but now it's a bright silver.” Alex stated.
“What about the rest of us?”
“Hermione's is gold, Ron's is emerald, and Harry's is crimson” she said, looking away from them to look at Khira but a gasp turned their attention back to the others.
“Silver and gold must come together to fight this evil, for they alone will be able to unite the rest of the world” Hermione muttered.
“Exactly Hermione” Khira stated.
“It could not mean me and Draco though.”
“How so?” Ron asked.
“Slytherin and Gryffindor house each have those colors as well. Prophecies I have noticed have always been riddles. It could mean Slytherin and Gryffindor since the house colors include those two colors. If they'd have said green and crimson, someone would instantly think of the two houses” she said, and they all nodded.
“It can, but most times when prophecies mention coming together they mean bonding” Alex stated, as she stood up and started pacing, “Alright, let's go over the prophecy all over again. Khira can you retrieve it from my office?”
“Sure” she replied, and in a flash she was gone and back again with the cherry wood box, “Here we are.”
“Alright, let's listen to it once more. So Ron and Harry can possibly help figure it out as well” she said and Draco nodded, picking the prophecy up again.
“The war shall forever change when a Malfoy falls at the hands of her husband. The heir of the Malfoy house shall determine the fate of the wizarding world. For if he sides with the dark, the light shall fall and with it, the world will plunge into chaos. If he chooses the light, there will be peace once again. Silver and gold must come together to fight this evil, for they alone will be able to unite the rest of the world. There will be struggles, but only then will he be able to lead the Malfoy name through this war without it being stained by the sins of the father. Silver and Gold must come together.”
“It's bluntly mentioning Narcissa being killed by Lucius, and the side Draco chooses will win the war. Struggles can mean fights and conflicts to prevent the two from being together, but in the end Draco will help preserve the Malfoy name if he does this” Alex stated, and they all nodded.
“It can also mean resistance from those in his own house” Harry said.
“Draco, who in Slytherin are most likely to side with Voldemort?”
“Crabbe and Goyle are loyal to the core. Zabini is neutral, Parkinson tends to follow whichever side I am with. Her father is a death eater and is trying to persuade her to join them though, so she may be forced into the ranks. Astoria and Daphne Greengrass are neutral, regardless of their father being a death eater. Really the only problem we would have are Crabbe, Goyle, and two other girls. Those girls are VERY dangerous” he said.
“It isn't Leah Matthews and Samantha Runcorn is it?” Khira asked, and he nodded, causing her to groan.
“Matthews' father is a sympathizer but not a death eater and so is Runcorn's. They both work at the ministry.”
“I've met Albert Runcorn. He's cruel and meticulous. If his daughter is anything like him we have a problem” Alex stated, sitting down again.
“What do we do about Leah and Samantha when we return to school?” Hermione asked.
“You will do nothing. I will handle them” the older witch replied, looking at her wife, before nodding, “Your training from here on out is going to concern the more offensive side of magic, but to get to that part, you need to know how to control your emotions to keep from using magic that is wild. Those amulets enhance that magic, and if you cannot control your magic, you can harm yourself and those around you easily.”
“Chaos magic?” Draco asked.
“Yes, they enhance Chaos magic, but they also enhance magic based upon other attributes” she said, and Khira handed her the tome, “I'm going to read each of you the original tale of the Amulets of the Elements. It is written in this tome.”
“This should be good” Harry said, interestedly as she opened the tome.
During the last half of the eighteenth century an orphan attended the Soviet Magical Academy. This young boy was an outsider, having come from the west to learn where others had never learned. His name was Christoph Sanchez, and he was a native to Spain. While he trained with the Elder Wizards, masters of the elements and guardians of the Amulets of the Elements, he could not master the methods they used to perform spells. The Wizards believed the boy was a squib, so they turned him away stating he was not able to learn from them and never could grasp the knowledge of the elements.
Angered by the decision of the Wizards, Sanchez killed each of them that night while they slept. He also stole their sacred amulets, along with the their journals. Within these journals he learned that there were two types of magic that could be used to cast spells, Chaos and Order magic. Order magic was the common magic used daily by all witches and wizards, while Chaos magic was brought on by only the most extreme of emotions. With this knowledge and a new method of learning, he trained himself to use the elemental spells. His anger and rage being the fuel of his spells, allowed him to master them in only two years.
In 1805, Sanchez re-emerged and made his presence known. Using only spells of the element of water, he destroyed a small village along the shore of the western sea, burying it in a mountain of ice and snow. He escaped that day, and none knew where his next strike would be. He struck next in a larger town to the north, which was a mining town, by causing a massive earthquake to occur. This earthquake swallowed the town within the mines below. Next he moved on to a city to the east, and upon reaching this city, tore it apart with a giant cyclone, which threw buildings around like they were nothing. It was feared that nothing would stop Sanchez.
For his final attack, Sanchez approached the grand city of Moscow itself and stepped foot into the square. People who recognized him ran to their homes in terror of what may happen. The Ministry had trained numerous witches and wizards to fight him. This group fought with all the magic they could summon, but none of them were prepared for the power he held. They fought for hours, Sanchez slowly picking them off until finally only four remained. A witch Sofia Petrovich, a master of the element of earth alongside her husband Mikhail who was the master of air. The other two were brothers; their names were Viktor a water master, and Sasha Valenko wizard the master of fire. The four refused to let Sanchez destroy the city. Sanchez upon seeing they were the last of the group began to laugh at them, taunting them for being all that the town had left to save it.
Sofia, having grown tired of his antics threw the first shot, causing the dirt around his feet to turn into a sand like substance, making his ankles sink into the ground. Enraged he threw a fire spell at her, but it was blocked by a water shield from Viktor. He then threw another fire, then a water, and then an earth spell at all of them, each being deflected by the opposite spells. Finally he had enough, and quickly threw spells at all of them, but they all missed, because the four combined their magic together to shield from the spells. They all decided then was the time to strike, and each of them charged their magic to it's strongest point, before firing all four spells at Sanchez at once. They struck him directly in the chest, and a bright white light flared up, blinding everyone watching the battle. As the light faded, they each all turned to see Christoph Sanchez's body was missing, but where he stood were the four Amulets of the Elements.
As cheers and shouts erupted around them the four of them stepped forward and picked up the Amulets of the Element, before placing them around their necks. Upon doing so the gemstones in the necklaces each glowed, signifying a new owner. However, it was unknown that the influence of the amulets would be their undoing. Having been around Sanchez's neck for so long the amulets had a strong curse placed upon them, and within weeks the attitudes of the four changed. Viktor while in a bar one night murdered another patron in cold blood simply because he lost a bet. Sasha, while spending the night at a local brothel was confronted by the owner and accused of beating the women. A fight broke out and he killed six of the women, two patrons, and the owner. Sofia and Mikhail had both gone on a killing spree and murdered multiple muggleborns and squibs.
The four were arrested and charged for their crimes, before being thrown in prison and the amulets seized by the warden. After a few years in the jail Sofia became ill and upon seeing a doctor, she was reported to be pregnant from being raped by a guard. This child, later named Victoria, was taken from her and sent to live with the warden to cover up the pregnancy. Upon hearing the child was taken, the four each became mad, sometimes talking to themselves. About a week before they died, Sofia was reported speaking of 'their pretty amulets being cursed' and 'the powers that be best keep them close to prevent them slipping into the wrong hands'. It was unknown what she meant until the following week when all four of them suddenly screamed and fell over in their cells, each of them having died of a reported heart attack, which could not be proven. Upon returning to his home that night, the warden found his house ransacked. He found Victoria was missing from the home as were the Amulets of the Elements. The amulets and the child were never seen again and considered missing.”
“Blimey!” Ron stated, and the others nodded.
“These amulets are very dangerous, and I will ONLY give them to you when I know they are safe. They are still cursed and I'm trying to break that curse. Until then you will only learn the spells” she said, closing the tome.
“Was it ever discovered what happened to Victoria?”
“This tome was written two years after the four died, but six years after they died, there was a Victoria Petrova who attended the Soviet Magical Academy. It was speculated she was the girl from the story” Khira replied.
“So what do we do now?” Hermione asked, looking around at the other teens.
“Continue your training and work on being a team” Alex stated, just as an elf popped in next to her, “Yes?”
“Madam there be a Mr. Shacklebolt at the edge of the wards. He wishes to speak to the young ones” the elf said quietly.
“Let him through and bring him in here” she commanded, and the elf popped out, returning a few moments later with the senior auror, “Kingsley I was not expecting you.”
“Lady Kruss, I am sorry for interrupting, but I am here to inform Harry and Hermione that they are being invited to Mr. Weasley's brother Bill's wedding at the beginning of next month, and they wish to know if they will be allowed to attend” the dark wizard stated.
“Of course! I am not their guardian and I will not tell them where they can and cannot go” she said, motioning for him to take a seat, continuing once he was seated, “I only ask that if they are to be going, that they have auror protection. The Burrow is where I assume this will be taking place?”
“Yes, it is taking place there. The Weasley's have asked if you would like to accompany them as well, since you are currently watching over them, and you have an outside view on things that may need to be changed for security” he stated.
“I am willing to go, but as it will be Harry, Hermione and Ron of course that go, can you also ask if Draco here can attend as well. It wouldn't be right for us to go and him be left here alone if all of us were to attend after all” she asked and he nodded.
“I will ask but cannot guarantee they will allow him. Also, I must admit I am here at the request of Dumbledore” he replied.
“He requested you check on their progress and see how they were faring?” Khira asked and he nodded.
“Yes, but I believe that just your account will be enough. I know from past experience asking you for a display is not necessary when it comes to you Lady Kruss” he said with a smirk.
“I was not responsible for that incident in 1992 Kingsley and you know it” she replied, smirking as well.
“I didn't say you were.”
“Well, Mr. Potter is doing very well on his Occlumency, and can knock me out of his mind in nearly half the time as before. Ms. Granger, Mr. Weasley, and Mr. Malfoy are progressing with their shields and I am very impressed with their progress so far. They will from here on out be learning how to combat through the shields, and hopefully by September all four of them will be able to do the same.”
“That is very good news” he said with a smile, “Mr. Potter would you say that Lady Kruss is a very good teacher?”
“One of the best I've had so far. She pushes us further than most, but it works and we learn because of it” he said, and Alex couldn't help the smirk that appeared on her face.
“Do the rest of you feel the same?” he asked, and the other three nodded.
“She's more hands on with the approach, and relates to us as young adults rather than as kids. She doesn't just teach from a book, so it's harder to learn it, but it works better in our favor” Hermione replied.
“Ms. Granger admitting that learning from outside a book is better, I cannot believe it” he said and they all chuckled.
“Very funny Kingsley” she replied with a smile.
“I best take my leave then” he said, standing up, “Lady Kruss, I will ask Molly myself what her opinion is on Mr. Malfoy attending and write to you in the next week.”
“Thank you, and have a good evening Auror Shacklebolt. One of the house elves will show you out” she said as the elf from earlier reappeared, “Please show the head Auror out and tell the kitchen staff to have dinner ready in half an hour.”
“As you wish Madam” the elf said, and left with Kingsley.
Hermione was awoken to her bedroom door bursting open. She jumped up and went to grab her wand, before realizing it was missing, just as she was grabbed and thrown onto the floor. She looked around herself but couldn't see anything. Suddenly she was bound with ropes around her and when she went to scream nothing came out. She heard her attacker whisper something she didn't understand before everything went black.
Slowly sounds came back to her and she heard voices around her, but was unable to determine who they came from. As she opened her eyes, she slowly looked around, before noticing she was shackled in a cell. She noticed there was a light on the other side of the doorway, but could not see anything beyond that. As her senses came back she noted that she wasn't the only one in the cell, and gasped upon seeing the way the other person looked.
“Draco?” she whispered, and he groaned.
“M...Mia?” he stuttered, confused, before looking over at her.
“Where are we?” she tried pulling on the shackles, but it was no use.
“I don't know. They came into my room and grabbed me before I could get a spell off” he said, his voice hoarse.
“I couldn't find my wand. It wasn't on my nightstand where I usually keep it” she said quietly.
“Mine either” he replied, “It was under my pillow when I went to sleep, but when I went to grab it, it was missing.”
Just then the door opened before two people walked in wearing death eater robes and masks, Draco gulped upon seeing them and struggled against the chains. They stunned Hermione and unshackled her, dragging her from the room. Draco tried to break free from his shackles, but couldn't and cried out in anger.
“Let her go! You have me so let her go!”
The two came back a few minutes later, and he growled at them both, attempting to break from his chains before one waved their wand and his vision went blank. He woke up and felt his hands tied behind his back, and he was sitting in a chair. His legs and waist were bound to the chair as well and there was a cloth gag in his mouth. He looked around and noticed Hermione was sitting directly across from him in the same exact position as him. He heard a door open behind himself and the two from earlier entered, one of them levitating a set of tools behind them and he could see numerous knives and other devices included.
“Ah, so good that you are awake” one of the two death eaters said, and he noticed through the mask it was a woman, “Let's remove that gag and see if you're as willing to talk as you were earlier.”
“Let Granger go you bitch!” he yelled once the gag was removed.
“Oh no no no my dear Malfoy! That will not happen and you know it just as much as we do” the other person said.
“What do you want with us?” he asked, but growled when he saw one of them lean over Hermione, “Don't touch her!”
“You have a soft spot for the mudblood young Malfoy?” the first one inquired, then started laughing when he kept silent, “Oh this is too good! The Dark Lord will be pleased to hear this.”
“Let's not tell him just yet though. I want to have some fun with the filth first” the other said, pulling out a silver dagger.
“No! Keep your hands off of her!”
“How adorable! 'Keep your hands off of her' he says” the one next to him cackled nodding to the other, before waking Hermione with her wand, “Go on then...have fun.”
“Hello mudblood” the one holding the dagger said, before pulling the gag away from Hermione's mouth.
“Draco?” she cried, as a tear fell down her cheek.
“Hermione don't talk to either of them” he said, watching the one with the dagger.
“If she doesn't talk, she'll die Malfoy” his head was yanked back by the hair and he glared at the silver masked woman, “You don't want her death to be because of you do you?”
“The same way his mommy's death was” his eyes jerked to the woman across the room and she laughed, “Oh, did I hit a soft spot? Well it is the truth you know. Lucius came before the Dark Lord and told us everything. How your mother begged for her life.”
“Shut up!”
“You know Potter is upstairs with the Dark Lord right now” one stated, leaning close to Hermione's ear, “I hear he plans on beating and torturing him until he begs for death, and even then won't give it to him.”
“You're lying!” Hermione cried, tears falling down her cheek.
“Is that what you think mudblood?” the sneer evident in her voice, “Sorry to disappoint you, but it's the truth. We brought him along after we got you two. Those two halfbreeds downstairs never saw us coming!”
“You're lying!” Draco growled, “Alex fixed the wards after we arrived. They wouldn't allow anyone she didn't trust onto the property.”
“She trusted the Russian Minister, and that was all we needed. Had him floo call her and tell her to open the floo this morning for him. Once she did, we had our chance, and came in. She put up a good fight, but she was no match for me. Neither was her wife” the one behind him stated boringly and he growled.
“LIAR!” he yelled.
“Look familiar young Malfoy?” she held up a necklace and Draco gasped upon seeing it, “It's Lady Kruss' necklace isn't it?”
“No!”
“There's only you, Potter, and the mudblood here left. We killed the rest” the one behind Hermione stated, “Pity too. That redheaded boy was such a nice looking young man. He refused to back down though, so he had to die.”
“No! Not Ron!” Hermione cried, the woman hanging a wand in front of her, “NO!”
“Oh, don't cry mudblood. You'll be joining him soon.”
“You lay a hand on her and I'll-”
“You'll what Malfoy?!” the one behind him grabbed his hair again, “You can't do anything. You're weak, and powerless here. The same way you always have been. You think you can take us on? You don't have the guts to do shit to us!”
“Let her go” he growled, glaring at her.
“I grow tired of this shit” she said, letting go of him and pulling out her wand, pointing it at Hermione, “Crucio!”
“NO!” he yelled, as a scream ripped through the young witch.
Draco struggled against the binds. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't break free. He watched as Hermione writhed under the spell, and with each scream she let out he felt himself grow more enraged. He noticed his hands started sparking and as the one behind Hermione cackled, he glared at them, wishing they would feel the pain as well. Suddenly they gasped, and fell to their knees, just as the one behind him released the spell on Hermione.
“Yes! Let it consume you young Malfoy” she said, moving to be in front of him, “You feel it don't you? The magic coursing through your veins? Let it consume you! Let it take control!”
“Let. Hermione. Go.”
“Let her go? Let her go?!” she cried, waving her wand at the witch, who started writhing again, “Why let her go when we are so close to the results we want?”
“Hermione!” he growled, watching her squeeze her eyes shut and whimper in pain, before he felt the magic inside himself coursing through.
The witch released the spell and instantly his magic calmed down. She helped the other up off the floor and moved them out of the room, before coming back and standing in front of him. He glared up at her and he heard her chuckle, before she leaned over.
“Very good Draco” she said, pulling off the mask and he gasped upon seeing her face.
