Chapter 9: All our Fears are in the Past
Harry found himself laying on a cold stone floor in a dark room, the only source of light coming from the flickering screen on the wall, showing himself asleep in Sirius’s old bed. He rolled his head to see Draco curled up protectively around his abdomen, and Harry’s heart broke. Dirt was smeared along Draco’s cheek and Harry reached up to rub it away, only to have his fingers faze through Draco, making his heart hurt even more. Tired, bloodshot, silvery blue eyes opened and pinned him. “Draco…” He breathed.
“You have to find me Harry, I…I can’t…something’s wrong.” The blonde whispered.
“I’m working on it baby, Blaise and Pansy are setting up a ritual, I’ll find you soon, soon you’ll be home. Then we can get through the Bonding ceremony no problem and be a family.” He said softly, trying to smile even as he wanted to cry at the strained sound of Draco’s voice. “What happened? What’s happening to you baby? How did you break me out of that potion? It wasn’t Amortentia.”
“I-I broke, you’re my mate. The father of our child, we belong together. My Veela wants only you. But I’m afraid it’s killing me, I’m trying to save our baby…but you have to hurry.” Draco lifted his hand to stroke over Harry’s cheek and Harry saw that the beds of his nails were red and bloody as if he were trying to grow the Veela talons.
Harry wanted so much to reach up and take his mates hand. “I’ll find you, I promise. Just hold on.”
Harry jolted awake and put his face in his hands. It had been three days since Jason took Draco, and now Jason was sitting in one of the cells in the Ministry under constant guard, and he had yet to hear from Blaise and Pansy. Hermione was pouring over books in the Black Library and the Library at the Ministry going through everything to try and figure out what was going on with Draco. Harry could feel Draco’s magic draining, and his dreams each time showed Draco getting weaker. He heard a pop and looked up to see Kreacher standing next to the bed holding out a potion. “Kreacher?”
“A Pepper-Up potion Master Harry, Master Harry had nother bad night, Kreacher brought potion to help Master Harry find Master Draco and little Master or Mistress.” The elf croaked.
Harry took the potion greatfuly, “thank you. You wouldn’t happen to be able to track them would you?”
Kreacher shook his head, “Kreacher can not find them. Master Draco is a Malfoy and Kreacher is a Black Family Elf. Kreacher would be able to find them if Master Harry and Master Draco married, but the filthy trash Jason stole Master Draco before he became family.”
Harry sighed, “I was afraid of that. It was worth a shot. Has there been any word from the Ministry?”
“They be trying to break his mind Master Harry, but there be no memories there.”
Harry sighed again, “He must have pulled them out, knowing Obliviating himself could be reversed. What about anything from Pansy or Blaise?”
“Lord and Lady Zabini called for Master Harry just before he be waking up. Kreacher was to bring you to their home as soon as you woke and had a potion.”
Harry flung the covers off of him and nodded, “alright, lets do this.” He quickly threw on a pair of jeans, a simple black shirt, and his sneakers. He downed the potion and nodded to Kreacher. The elf grabbed his arm and with a crack landed them in the receiving room of Zabini Manor. Pansy and Blaise stood waiting for him, Pansy looking tired as she leaned against her husband. “Blaise, Pansy, what do we have?”
“You better appreciate this Potter, I haven’t slept in three days to get this set up.” Pansy said as she pushed herself away from Blaise. “C’mon, it’s all set up.” She lead them from the room and down the stairs to the basement where a table held a large map, a black and silver bowl, a wicked looking dagger, and a white crystal held by a silver chain. Pansy walked over to the table and grabbed the dagger and held out her hand. “Give me your hand.”
Harry blinked at her, “What are you going to do?”
She rolled her eyes, “I’m going to slice open your palm, let your blood run into this bowl, dip the crystal into your blood and use it as an anchor for the scry and dangle it over the map here to see if that will let us know where Draco and the baby are.”
“It’s blood scrying. An ancient way of finding people, your blood is the only connection we have to the baby. Sure we could use something of Draco’s but we don’t know how weak he is, he will be trying to protect that baby with everything he has and the baby has your blood. Blood makes for better scrying.” Blaise said with a shrug, “doesn’t matter if the person you are looking for is alive or dead. Though we are hoping for alive!” He hurriedly added at the twin glares he got from both his mate and Harry.
Harry sighed and laid his hand into Pansy’s. She quickly cut into his palm, ignoring his hiss of pain as she turned his hand over and watched as the bowl filled up. She let him draw his hand away and picked up the bowl and the crystal as she slowly dipped the crystal in watching carefully as the blood seeped into the crystal turning it into a murky red. She set the bowl down and lifted the crystal over the map. “Now then, there should be two points that the crystal hits, yours and the babies.” She slowly began to sway the crystal over the map when it suddenly stuck to part of the map, standing straight up over where they were in England. She nodded. “Good, so this is where we are now, now then this is a world map so just incase he somehow got Draco out of the country.” She pulled the crystal back up and slowly began to sway it as her hand went over the map.
Harry braced himself against the table, his hand throbbing even with the healing spell, and watched Pansy like a hawk. He watched as the crystal completely bypassed the UK, only trying to pause where he was but Pansy moved her hand to the continent and he watched as it bypassed all of Europe as she moved on to Asia and back through again and going through the Middle East. His heart slowly started to drop as the crystal moved without stopping and he slowly fell to his knees pressing his forehead into his arms on the table. “Please…please let us find them.” He prayed softly.
A small thunk and a curse from Pansy drew his head up. “What?”
“How the hell did that little prat get him all the way over there?” She muttered.
Harry looked down at the map and felt his rage boil over. The crystal was sitting right on Louisiana in the States. “That little prick, he took Draco to Louisiana.”
Blaise sighed, “we’ll never get a Portkey in time. There’s no way to Floo or Aparate there.”
Harry smirked, “oh I have a Portkey, all I need to do is put in the coordinates and we can just go. A gift from Kingsley for any time that I was on the trail of someone that left the UK.”
Pansy laughed, “it’s a good thing we have the Head Auror as a friend. What are we waiting for then? We have a sick Veela and a baby in danger.”
Harry nodded as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small coin, muttered the coordinates, and held it out for Pansy and Blaise to touch. He felt the familiar jerking at his navel and growled as he stumbled but caught himself before meeting the soaked cobblestone street of and alley way in the French Quarter. Pansy smoothed back her hair and held up the blood soaked crystal. “Alright, so in theory this should work, all we have to do is just walk around and the crystal will guide us.”
“In theory?”
“It’s magic not science, it’s not always right or accurate.” She rolled her eyes and watched as the crystal began to sway and then pointed to the left. “Let’s go.” The small group used a disillusion spell and left the alley, maneuvering through the hot heavy rain of the south until they got to the edge of town leading to the bayou. They canceled the spell and Pansy glared at the crystal. “How can he be out here? There’s nothing out here.”
Harry sighed as he looked around, the sounds of the bayou floating around them. He rubbed his hands over his face and ran his fingers through his wet hair, he felt his heart tugging and the weakening bond between himself and Draco. He groaned as he plopped down into the mud and dropped his head into his hands. “I can’t stop now…He’s getting weaker….he’s even more tired now.”
Blaise looked down at him. “You can feel him? And you didn’t tell us that you had bonded already.”
“We didn’t know, not until he activated it.”
The darker skinned Veela glared and cuffed Harry upside the head. “Stupido.” He snapped at him, “You have a bond, use it. Open yourself up and fallow the bond.”
Harry glared as he rubbed the back of his head and stood up, closing his eyes and opening his mind into the bond.
Draco whimpered as another lance of pain ran through his back and he curled even tighter around his abdomen and whimpering. He was so tired and he could feel his magic draining, and even the little spark of life inside of him starting to fade out. He whimpered and rubbed his stomach. “No little one, it’s ok, Daddy’s coming…he said he was.” He whimpered as tears spilled down his cheeks. He heard a cracking and rumbling and slowly lifted his head as the ceiling gave way and crashed to the floor and the room filled with the scents of rain, mud, and bayou. A sharp light filled the room making him flinch and he heard people dropping down into his prison.
“Oh my god, Draco!” Pansy cried as the three of them knelt down.
Harry reached out with trembling hands and gathered the weak Veela into his arms and held him close. “Draco, love, I’m here.”
Draco lifted a bloodied hand and caressed Harry’s cheek softly, “you always come for me.”
Harry nodded as he pressed his lips to Draco’s forehead. “I always will.”
Blaise ran the light of his wand down Draco’s body, a frown marring his handsome face. “This is bad, we need to get him to St. Mungo’s and quick. I’ll put him to sleep and we can go, but we have to go now.” He muttered a sleeping spell and Harry took out the Portkey to take them back to the UK.
Draco slowly drifted back to consciousness to the sound of people talking quietly. He opened his eyes, expecting to find himself in the dark once more, but was surprised to see a simple white ceiling above him and sunshine drifting through the window. He turned his head to the side to see a vase filled with Dragon Tongue flowers and he knew that he was finally out of the hell he had suffered in. The curtain slid to the side revealing Harry and a petite witch with short black hair. “Oh, Lord Malfoy, you’re awake!” She said with a smile, “that’s good, we were starting to get worried.”
“Harry?”
Harry smiled as he sat down on the edge of the bed and took Draco’s hand, kissing his fingers. “welcome back baby.”
“Where am I?”
“You’re at St. Mungos.” The witch said as she moved to the other side of the bed and began to check his vitals, her quill scribbling furiously at her side on the scroll. “You were brought here two weeks ago, your magic was severely depleted and you were teetering on the edge of death for a little while.”
“The baby-” Draco felt his panic rising.
“Is perfectly fine, you both are now that you have had some rest. Your magic kept your pregnancy viable enough for you to be brought here and we were able to see you right away. Then again when the Head Auror comes running in screaming for a Healer we are hardly ones to say no.” She laughed softly as she took his hand in hers and ran her fingers lightly over the fine bones of his hands. “It would seem that your Veela blood tried to manifest itself as a normal Veela would. Of course it couldn’t and your body was rejecting your own blood, uncommon but not unheard of. You went through a terrible ordeal Lord Malfoy. But because of the bond to your mate your own magic was strong enough to keep your baby safe. Luckily Auror Potter found you when he did…a day later and there would have been no hope for you or for the baby.” She moved the blanket down and pulled her wand out to run the diagnosis spells for the pregnancy. She smiled as a small black screen appeared over the wand with a small grey and white blob in the middle of the screen. “There you are, one healthy beautiful developing baby and you look to be about 10 weeks, nearly done with your first trimester.”
Draco stared in awe at the floating picture of the little thing growing inside of him and he felt the tears on his face. “And you are sure the baby is ok?”
“The baby, and mother are both perfectly healthy. From what we were told you were only missing for a few days, while magical depletion in our kind is very dangerous physically you are fine. We were able to get you some potions to counteract not eating or drinking for those few days and keeping you asleep and stress free as well as your mate not leaving your side helped bring your magical levels up. You’ve been under constant care and you’ve also had the best. Now then I’ll just leave you two alone and I’ll be back with the paperwork to have you released. Now that you are awake and everything has come back perfect you can go home.” She smiled and left the room.
Harry smiled as he ran his hand softly over Draco’s stomach. “I was so worried about you. They’ve had to knock me out a few times to make me sleep because I didn’t want to close my eyes and find you gone when I woke up.” He pulled Draco into his arms and held him close, “you’ll be lucky if I let you out of my sight again.”
“What happened with Jason?” Draco asked softly, taking in the warmth of his mate and his scent.
“Gone, sentenced and locked up in Azkaban and due to be Kissed soon. He stepped on a lot of toes, both internationally which put Kinglsey at odds with the American Minister of Magic and with our own Ministry here, along with the Magical Creatures Society. You’re safe, and our baby is safe.” Harry kissed his temple softly as he felt the tension drain out of the other man.
“I love you Harry. Thank you for coming for me.”
“I love you too Draco, and I will always come for you. Let’s get you ready to go home, everyone’s waiting to see you.” Harry kissed him softly and only pulled back when the door opened and the Healer walked back in with a stack of papers in her arms.
A/N: What a struggle, now then this story is almost done and for once I think it’s going to have a no problem happy ending. We’ll see though. Thanks for reading!
