John's POV
I walk slowly to the Quiditch pitch. It is around 11:45, so I have some time to kill. I immediately change into my Dovah form and let loose a low and rumbling groan. These days it was getting to be way too confining to be in my human body for long periods of time. I suspected the same was true of Tia, but in a different way. The Other have such beautiful bodies, looking almost like a statue. It was their right to show off their angelic forms they are known for in history. However, the Dovah are nowhere near as beautiful, at least not in the same idealic way. We evolved to hunt, mostly in deserts and canyons. Our first ancestral memories of being on Earth were shock, as we appeared in Norway first. We did not enjoy the snow at first, but many adapted and became such proficient hunters that their scales turned white, like my beautiful Jess’s, so as to blend in with the snow. I began to flap my wings and fly around the stadium, reveling in the power of flight.
"My my, somebody's having fun!" Tia's voice would have startled me if I hadn't smelled her getting close. I landed in front of her and changed back into a human.
"Good to see you for once, Tia. You've been quite... busy... with your mates." Tia laughed at that.
"You really need to stop using your visions to snoop Dovtanihe!"
"I didn't. Next time take a shower after you finish with your mates and maybe I won't smell it on you." She quickly changes the subject and I see a very feint blush on her cheeks despite her playful glare.
"You said you had some advice on where to look for the gateway to the Other world?"
"Yes, but first thing's first. The ring still overpowers you, right?" Tia nods at that, knowing well enough not to interrupt me when I start talking business. "Show me how you use a spell. Knock over the targets." I snap my fingers and 5 targets on stands appear about 20 feet in front of us. She concentrates and her blue and white magic shoots out of her core from around her hands, still at her sides. I immediately see the problem as the energy cycles from the center of her belly, her hand with the ring pouring some energy into the spell as well. She repeats this four times, and each time the energy obliterates the targets. "Good... but I said to knock them down, not destroy them." She snaps at me.
"I know what you fucking said, John! I told you I can't fucking control it!" She starts pulsing energy, her true form ripping its way out when I put my hand on her shoulder to calm her.
"Stop and listen. You are misusing the ring. Think of it like a wand. Channel your magic through it like you would a wand." She looks at me angrily her wings flexing and the feathers ruffling.
"And how the hell do I do that! Huh!? Just channel my magic? I burned out my wand!" Her magic pushes me away from her and she looks like she almost wants to kill me, her snarling lips reviling the small fangs I never knew Other possessed.
"Tia, cool it! I'm trying to help. Or would you prefer to pull Draco's ribcage out of his chest when you mean to pull him closer to you?" That got her to shut up, and I see fear in her eyes. "Much better. Now, as I was saying, think of it as a wand. How do you direct spells with a wand?" I snap my fingers again and five more targets appear. I notice a glint in Tia's eyes as she gets the idea.
"By pointing it." She raises her fist and points the ring at the first target. This time her magic moves from her core to her fist and exits out the ring. The magic is strong, but not too strong as it knocks down the first target instead of turning it to ash. She repeats it over and over until she knocks over the last target. She laughs with joy, her wings fluttering gently, and I laugh too, happy that she finally gets it.
"Now take it off. It's messing with your head way too much. You are becoming way more angry than you used to. Only wear it once a week." She smiles at me.
"Okay, John. Thanks." She pulls the ring off of her finger and pockets it. "Now, what about the way to the Other world?"
"You need to talk to the centaurs. Ask them about the places they don't go. Aside from the Acromantula nesting ground, that is." She gives me a blank look.
"Really? We didn't have to meet to talk about that. You could have just told me that in the hall! Why can't you tell me where it is?" I laugh at that.
"Because seeing the future is like a form of time travel. If I tell you exactly where it is there is no point in asking the centaurs. If we don't ask the centaurs we don't find out where it is. If we don't find out where it is we can't go there. It's called a paradox. Make sense?"
"I guess..." She turns around and looks out to the line of dark trees that lines one side of the grounds kicking the ground before digging her toe in with frustration. “I still don’t like it. But if you say it has to be done this way I guess that’s all there is for it.” She turns back to face me and I see the trust in her eyes.
"Good. I can tell you that it's too dangerous to go alone. I can come with you. But our mates can't come until we get rid of the traps left by your ancestors. And we need to find something called the Wispcatcher's Gauntlets. We will need them to retrieve the 'Healing Element'." She smirked at that.
"Really? I honestly still can’t believe they called it the “Healing Element". Why not just call it what it is. Fire?! Oooh! Scary.”
"Your ancestors, not mine."
"True. Is that about it?"
"Pretty much, yeah."
"Good. Hey, Jess looks better, by the way. Did that thing with her visions pass?" I sigh.
"Yes, finally, thanks in part to the dream catcher thing you made her, thank you for that by the way. She had to face the truth, but she's better for it now."
"And what truth was that?"
I sigh once more and turn my back on the Other Queen to look at the lake, the small sliver of moon reflecting on the surface. "She killed her little sister as a child."
I hear Tia gasp. "Oh my God..."
"Yeah. Her little sister found a black blood ring on the sidewalk. We figure it was left there on purpose. The thing about the black ones, they make you stronger enough to lift a thousand pounds, but they make you insane over time. When she started going crazy her parents confronted her, and she tried to kill them. Jess acted in time to protect her parents, but she killed her sister. And the only way she could kill her sister was by emerging way too early. Her sister was 7 and Jess was 9. Even a child Dovah is more than enough for an army of wizards, let alone one little demented witch. Jess hated herself, so her parents put memory charms on her so she could live a normal life." I turn back around and look at the angelic being that I call sister. I could see the worry written all over Tia's face.
"Wow. I'll talk to her about it. She'll need to talk to somebody."
"Don't. She has already talked about it to the other girls. If she wants to bring it up she will."
"Alright. Anything else we need to talk about?"
"Not really, except that I have no idea how I'm going to seduce Ash Pythrose. What do you even say to a vampire?" Tia laughed.
"Your problem, not mine!" She then gets a thoughtful look on her face before it breaks into a wicked smile.
“What is that devious little mind of yours thinking Othersister?”
“Well. Oliver told me about this Vampire girl he dated once.”
“And?”
“Walk up to Ash and be all like ‘You want to suck my blood?’ Or something along those lines.”
“He is NOT biting my neck. I’m biting his.”
“I never said ANYTHING about letting him bite your neck. Ollie says that a Vamp feeding from your cock is more pleasurable any way.” My mouth drops open in shock and Tia just gives me a saucy wink before flexing her wings and leaping into the air. “TATA!!” She cackles and then she is gone.
