“So, Harry, how are things going with Malfoy?” Seamus asked, pointedly looking at Harry’s left hand.
Harry smiled and made a show of using that hand to brush some hair out of his eyes. “Good, actually.” He replied.“Let’s see it, then.” Ginny said, holding out her hand.Harry laughed and held his hand out over the table so she could get a good look at the ring.Ginny took his hand and she and Seamus looked at the ring.“Big stone, that is.” Seamus commented.Harry grinned and didn’t comment, using his other hand to eat.“It’s beautiful.” Ginny sighed, letting Harry have his hand back. “So, Harry, when are you going to marry him?” She asked with a cheeky smile.Harry just laughed and shook his head. “We haven’t set a date yet, or anything like that. He won’t even give me the Claiming Bite until we’ve had more time to talk. He says there are some things I need to know first.”Ginny nodded. “Yes, family secrets, and all that. Every family has them, and I’ll bet some of his are probably not all that pretty.”Harry shrugged. “There’s nothing he can tell me that’ll make me love him any less, so I’m not worried.” He finished eating and stood. “Time to head to Charms.” He said. The rest of the Gryffindor sixth years got up, walking with Harry, having been told that he was expecting, and all knowing that it was their job to make sure he stayed safe, or suffer the wrath of Draco Malfoy.“So,” Seamus said, placing a hand on Harry’s shoulder, “Will I get an invite to the wedding?”“Hands off him, Finnegan!”Harry turned to find Draco storming towards them, looking murderous, Pansy and Blaise following along more sedately.Harry stepped in front of Seamus to block Draco from getting to him. “Draco, calm down!” He said softly.Draco growled and Harry noticed that his eyes were silver. He was pretty angry, then. Draco backed Harry into a wall, pinning him there, and proceeded to kiss him roughly. He raised his head and hissed, “What part of ‘extremely possessive and jealous’ did you not understand? He’s your ex, how did you think I’d react to him touching you?! You’re mine, Harry!” He finished, kissing him again.Harry kissed him back, moaning softly.Seamus cleared his throat, then whispered, “That’s hot.”Draco broke the kiss and turned his head to growl at him.Seamus held his hands up in surrender. “Whoa, Draco, I get it. Hands off. I was actually talking more about you, you know.” He pointed out.Draco smirked. “I’m taken, too.” He said in amusement. “Don’t touch Harry again.” He added.Harry pushed at Draco’s shoulders. “We do need to get to class, Draco.” He reminded the blond.Draco pulled back enough for Harry to get out from between him and the wall, then took Harry’s rucksack from him. “I’ll get that.” He said.Harry sighed. “Not again!”*****Draco sat on the couch with a heavy sigh. “Finally, we have some time alone. We need to talk, Harry.” He said. “I have things I need to tell you.”Harry took his hand. “So tell me. It won’t make me love you any less.”Draco bit his lip and looked down. “Part of it might.” He whispered.Harry frowned. “Well, get that out of the way first, then.”Draco shook his head. “No, the other part is going to be harder for me, so I’d rather get that one out of the way first.”“Okay, whichever you prefer is fine.” Harry said, stroking Draco’s hand with his thumb, soothingly.Draco took a deep breath and focused on their hands. “I told you how my father was only there when he needed to be. There’s a tradition that the Malfoy family follows, well, followed, because I’m not going to do it, that he was especially careful to keep to. In some families, usually those that are predominantly Slytherin, sex is seen as a tool, a means of control over others, and it’s thought to be a good idea if a child learns about it young, from the safety of their own home, by someone who won’t hurt them.” He whispered.Harry swallowed, starting to feel sick. He had a feeling he knew where this was heading, and he only hoped he was wrong.“When I was thirteen, my father took me aside and told me it was time for me to ‘become a man.’ He hired a prostitute for me on my birthday. I… Couldn’t perform, and he got angry at me. When he asked me why I didn’t want to do it, I told him that I didn’t like girls that way. He sent her away.” Draco licked his lips and turned his gaze to the fire.Harry nearly breathed a sigh of relief, before he realized Draco was only pausing, not done.“He refused to buy me a rentboy, because he considered them to be dirtier, and he was nothing if not against anything dirty.” Draco said softly. “Instead, a few days after my birthday, he came to my room. He’d bought a box of condoms, and he explained that he was going to show me how to be with a man. He… He wasn’t awful. I actually liked it, Harry.” Draco whispered. “We were together more than once. I went to him several times after that night. Each time, I enjoyed what we did together, and the fact that, for once, I was getting his undivided attention.” He said, then stood and faced the wall, wrapping his arms around himself. “I’m sorry. You must think me disgusting.” He said, tears in his voice.Harry stood up and turned Draco around, wrapping his arms tightly around the blond. “No, I don’t. Draco, anyone would want attention from their father, and fuck, sex is supposed to feel good! There’s nothing wrong with liking it, what’s wrong is that he’d do that with you when you were so young! Fuck, Draco, you were thirteen! That’s illegal!” He shouted.Draco shivered. “But I wanted it.” He whispered.Harry shook his head. “No, the blame rests with your father for doing it at all. All you knew was that it felt good and you were finally getting his attention. That would be enough to lure anybody into doing it again. I don’t blame you, nor do I hate you. You were just a kid, Draco.”Draco finally let go of himself and wrapped his arms around Harry. “You really don’t hate me?” He asked, voice cracking.“I don’t hate you, Draco. I hate your father more now than ever before, but no, I don’t hate you.” Harry promised. How could he hate Draco for something that wasn’t his fault to begin with? He’d been abused, pretty much, in a much more heinous way than Harry had been. At least the Dursleys had never touched him sexually! Or in any other way, for that matter.“Come on.” Harry urged. “Let’s sit down, Draco. Is that all?” He asked, hoping it was.Draco shook his head, letting Harry lead him back to the couch. “No. But you’ll definitely hate me for this.” He whispered.Harry raised Draco’s head gently and kissed him softly, watching his eyes, which were currently ice-blue, proving that the Slytherin was still very on-edge. “Try me.” He said challengingly.Draco searched his eyes for a second, then nodded. “Alright. When the Dark Lord returned, my father started teaching me the Dark Arts. He’d always had the books on them, but I was never allowed to read them. He started training me in pain curses, blood curses, anything you could think of, I learned it.” He took a deep breath, then plunged ahead. “He bought me a blank wand, a spare, if you will, for me to learn the Unforgivables with. It was, of course, unregistered and un-Traced. He taught me the Imperius Curse first, on spiders and rats, making them do outrageous stunts. I thought it was great fun. Next he taught me Cruciatus, and when I managed to do it properly, he was so proud of me. I had to practice that one a lot before I managed it, but when I did, I finally had his approval. The Killing Curse…”Harry sucked in a breath through his nose.“That one was hard. I practiced for months before I finally got it right. I finally managed it during Christmas break, last year. When I showed Father that I could do it on a rat, he told me he was proud of me and promised that we would celebrate. Two nights later, he took me down to the dungeons. There was a Muggle woman there, tied and gagged. Father released her and suggested we have some fun with her. He made me use the Imperius Curse first, and I made her suck him off. Then we both used Cruciatus, taking turns at it. After she had gone mad, Father made me kill her. I had to try several times, but I did eventually get it right.” Draco finished, hanging his head.Harry just sat there, stunned. Draco had killed someone. Successfully. Then again, so had Harry, but to be fair, there were extenuating circumstances in play on his part. “You killed someone. In cold blood.”Draco nodded, and Harry let go of him. “She was nothing to me, and I wanted Father’s approval so much.” Draco said, softly. “She was just a Muggle. She meant nothing to me.” He took a deep breath. “I still see her in my nightmares from time to time.” He confessed. “She means something to me now.”Harry thought he was going to be sick. “Muggle or Witch, it was still a life, Draco! A life you took! Fuck, I can’t—I need to be alone for a few. I’ll see you later.” He said, getting up and leaving. He headed out of the room and went for a walk, finally deciding that he needed to talk to Hermione. He headed up to Gryffindor Tower. When he got there, he went in and saw Hermione sitting in one of the armchairs by the fire. “I need to talk to you. In private.” He said.Hermione frowned, but nodded. “Alright. Let’s go.”They headed to the Room of Requirement and headed in. It looked just like the Gryffindor common room. Harry snorted.Hermione smiled. “So, what’s got you in such a state?” She asked, curling up in an armchair.Harry took a deep breath. “Draco. He just got done telling me some things about his family, and I just learned that he killed a Muggle, in cold blood, last Christmas break.” He said tonelessly, burying his face in his hands. “I don’t know how I’m supposed to deal with that. How can I reconcile my Draco with the cold-blooded killer I now know resides inside him?” He asked. His Draco was loving and gentle, and he just couldn’t imagine him killing a Muggle, no matter how much he’d wanted his Father to approve of him.Hermione covered her mouth with one hand, in mild shock. “I’m not saying I understand that or anything, but you just left him after finding this out? Harry, he risked a lot to tell you that, how do you think he feels right now? He probably thought it would make you hate him, and now you’ve just confirmed his fears. You have to go talk to him! Try to understand that we’ve all done things we’re ashamed of, even if some sins are bigger than others, and make sure he knows that you still love him despite his failings. Harry, if he thinks you’re rejecting him, he could do something drastic!” She said urgently.Harry got up. “Right. I’ll head back. Sorry I pulled you out of the common room for this.” He said.Hermione shook her head, smiling. “No, it’s fine. You needed to talk, and what are friends for?”Harry headed back to his and Draco’s room, pausing outside to collect his thoughts. He went in, and didn’t see Draco in the common room, so he tried the bedroom. Still no sign of him. He went into the bathroom and found Draco, standing in front of the broken mirror with his hand dripping blood. He was staring at the shattered mirror almost blankly, his eyes totally silver, but fangs absent.“Draco?” Harry asked, worried that he’d cause a bad reaction in the seemingly numb Slytherin. He’d never seen him close down like this.Draco turned toward him, then hung his head. “Go away.” He said, his voice rough. “You hate me, and I don’t blame you. I hate me, too.” He said.Harry walked up to him and grasped his bleeding hand, looking at it critically. There were a few shards of mirror stuck in the skin. “What have you done to yourself? Draco, what was the point of that?” He asked, pulling out the biggest shard, making Draco wince.“Didn’t want to see. I look less like me when it’s broken.” He explained, as though it made all the sense in the world.Harry sighed. “Come on, we’re going to the hospital wing.” He said, pulling on Draco’s hand.Draco shook his head, but looked down at his hand. “Just vanish the shards. I can wrap it up in a towel until it stops bleeding.” He said softly.Harry vanished the shards that were still in Draco’s skin and repaired the mirror. “Seven years of bad luck for breaking that.” He commented lightly.Draco laughed ruefully. “I’ve already collected.” He said, grabbing a towel and wrapping up his hand. He walked back out to the common room with Harry and curled up on the couch, Harry wrapped around him.“I’m sorry I left like that. I understand that it was hard for you to tell me that, and I reacted pretty bad. I mean, I just can’t get my head around the fact that you’ve killed.” Harry said, running a hand through his hair. “Of all the things I expected to hear, that one never crossed my mind.”Draco shuddered. “I thought you’d left me for good.” He whispered.“No!” Harry wrapped his arms tighter around Draco. “No, Draco. I’ll never leave you. I can’t say I understand, because I don’t, and I don’t think I ever will, but it’s going to be okay. We’ll be okay. I love you still, nothing will change that, no matter how many ugly secrets you tell me. It’ll just take time, that’s all.”Draco sat there for fifteen minutes, just soaking in his mate’s touch, leaning into him heavily. Harry seemed to understand that he didn’t need words right now, just time to collect himself, to rebuild himself around the fact that he had told Harry his biggest secrets, and the world had very nearly come crashing down around him, but, lo and behold, it was still intact. If only just.*****“How’s he doing?” Hermione asked as Harry sat down for dinner.Harry grimaced. “He’s been quiet and withdrawn since he told me and I ran out, but I think he understands that I’m not going to leave him over this. I think he just needs time. We just need time.” He sighed. “At least, that’s my hope.”Hermione nodded. “I can understand that. Just try not to distance yourself from him over this. Be there for him when he needs you, that’s all you can really do.” She advised.Ron was frowning. “What’s up?” He asked, mouth full of food.“Ron, honestly, swallow before you talk!” Hermione chided.Ron swallowed, then asked again, “So, what’s up?”Harry shook his head. “It’s private, Ron. I shouldn’t have even told you, Mione. I just needed to talk to someone.”Hermione nodded. “My lips are sealed. Really, Ron, it’s not our business. It’s between Harry and Draco.” She told him.Ron shrugged. “Whatever.” He decided, turning his attention back to his food.Harry looked over at the Slytherin table and saw Draco talking quietly to Pansy, who was nodding every so often. At least he was still willing to talk to his friends. That meant he wasn’t shutting everyone out completely. Harry supposed that was all he could ask for, at this point. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
