Hello everyone! I have a super long awesome chapter for you! We finally get to find out what the hell is going on with Draco! I'm so excited about this chapter and I hope you like it too! Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Draco had been staying with them for about two months when things started to take a turn for the worst. There wasn't a significant change in behavior,but Harry had fallen mysteriously ill. They couldn't explain it and even the healers were at a loss for what was happening. There were days where Harry would be completely fine, and there were days where he would wake up and be to weak to even lift himself up onto his elbows off the bed. He was getting migranes, would sometimes become so dizzy that he would fall over, he slept may more than he usually did and simple tasks such as climbing he stairs sometimes left him gasping for breath.
They had taken him to no less than four different healers and all of them had no idea what was going on. Lucius and Severus started to keep an active log of all the things that were plaguing Harry and when they happened. At the moment he was curled up in his sun bed with a bucket close to his head. His head felt like it was trying to remove itself from his body and the dizziness made his stomach churn violently.
“How are you feeling today kitten?” Severus asked softly, kneeling down by Harry. Harry whimpered in response, not wanting to move or open his eyes. Severus and Lucius had adapted their schedule so that only one of them went to work while the other stayed home to take care of Harry. It was Severus's day to work and he had just gotten home. He kissed Harry's temple and then went to see Lucius in the kitchen.
“He hasn't really been able to talk, but he was able to tell me that he has a migraine and dizziness today.” Lucius said, sipping his tea. “Unfortunately, I haven't been able to keep any food in him at all. The dizziness is turning into nausea.” They both started as they heard Harry gagging in the other room. They hurried in and Harry was over the bucked, dry heaving.
“Shhh.. It's alright. Just calm down.” Lucius said, the two of them rubbing Harry's back. When he was done he shuffled back and flopped down in the cushions.
“I hate this.” Severus said, gently carding his fingers through Harry's hair.
“So do I, I just wish we had some answers from the healers.” Lucius said.
“Did you send them last week's listing?” Severus asked.
“Yes, but they haven't found anything yet. They're going to start looking into muggle ailments next.”
The next morning Severus had to carry Harry downstairs because he was too weak to support himself, but he was happy that the nausea was gone so Harry could eat. Harry was losing weight rapidly due to the fact that a lot of times anything that he ate was promptly thrown back up. They spent the rest of the day in the living room. Severus read in between watching over Harry and Harry watched Disney movies on the portable DVD player that Lucius had picked up for him last week. Even Draco was quiet as he moved about the house.As the week passed Harry slowly got better. The dizziness stopped happening, and the headaches died down. He was becoming more awake and aware of his surroundings and the weakness was going away as well. In fact, so much of his strength had come back to him that on Sunday he was able to walk himself downstairs and join them for breakfast.
“Good morning.” Harry said softly, holding onto the wall as he entered the kitchen.
“Harry!” Lucius and Severus cried, even Draco looked happily surprised. Harry smiled and started walking towards them but had to stop and grab the counter as his legs buckled. Severus and Lucius jumped up and helped Harry to his seat at the table.
“You look so much better than you did a few days ago.” Severus said, feeling Harry's cheeks. His skin was blushed a cherry blossom red but he didn't have a fever.
“I feel loads better.” Harry said with a weak grin.
“Thank Merlin.” Lucius said in relief. Harry grinned in response. As the days passed Harry grew stronger and stronger. It wasn't long before he was able to walk around on his own again. Severus and Lucius hoped that the worst was behind them and that this mysterious illness was gone. They were talking about whether it was alright for both of them to start working at the shop again when disaster struck.
They were downstairs in the living room, it was just after lunch, when Harry stumbled down the stairs in that horrifyingly familiar clumsy walk.
“S-sev...” Harry slurred and the first person he saw. “Don't....feel good.” He reached out an arm towards them and then his eyes rolled up into his head and he pitched forwards onto the floor.
“Harry!” Lucius cried, the two of them rushing towards him. Draco stood up from where he was sitting in the kitchen so fast that his chair was flung to the floor. Harry gurgled and his limbs contorted. His entire body started jerking and convulsing as he was thrown into a full blown seizure.
“Oh my god!” Severus cried out, kneeling down next to Harry. “Lucius! Quick go grab something we can use to hold his tongue down so he doesn't choke on it. We have to be quick or his jaw will lock in place.” Severus instructed. Lucius nodded and ran off towards the kitchen. “Draco! I need you to floo to St. Mungos and ask for Healer Perkins. Tell him that Harry is having a seizure. Go!”
Draco nodded, his face white and a frantic expression on his face. He took off for the floo and disappeared as Lucius came back with a small wooden spatula. Severus quickly maneuvered it into Harry's mouth and held his tongue down flat. Lucius jerked in surprise as Harry's hand smacked his thigh. He quickly grabbed his arm and held it down.
“No! You'll only hurt him more. If he strains too much against you he could break his arm. We just have to gently guide his limbs away from us and anything that could hurt him.” Severus said, fluidly moving Harry's other hand away from accidentally hitting him in the face.
Moments later the floo flared up and Healer Perkins rushed into the room. He knelt down next to Harry and pulled out a syringe. He filled it from a sealed bottle of medicine and then injected it into Harry's thigh. Harry's convulsions slowly diminished until they were gone and Harry was lying gasping and unconscious on the floor.
“What happened?!” Healer Perkins asked, firing diagnostic spells to try and find out what was going on.
“I-I have no idea.” Lucius said. “He was doing so well. His strength was coming back and he hadn't been sick in days. We thought that it was finally working its way out of his system.”
“When he came downstairs a few minutes ago he was staggering the way he did when he was feeling weak and he was slurring his words.” Severus explained.
“What did he say?” Healer Perkins asked, cursing as the spells came up with no results.
“He called for me and said he didn't feel well. Then he collapsed and started seizing.” Severus said, kneeling down next to Harry and pulling the spatula from his mouth.
“What is going on here?! The spells should yield results, even if it is muggle in nature. I don't understand! What...what if...” The healer said.
“What if what?” Lucius asked, adjusting the pillows as Severus lay Harry in his sun bed.
“Well, what if it's origin was spelled to be unrecoverable.” Healer Perkins said with a grim look.
“What?!” Severus said in alarm.
“It's the only thing that I can think of. If the person is good enough they would be able to mask whatever is making Harry sick so that our detection spells can't pick it up.” The healer explained.
“Wait, if that's what's happening then whoever is doing this would have to have access to the house.” Lucius said.
“Yes. How many people know this address?” Healer Perkins asked.
“Too many.” Severus replied.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Harry whimpered as he woke up. Every inch of him ached and when he moved spasms of pain shot up his spine.“Shhh. It's alright kitten, you're alright.” Lucius said. He was sitting on the floor by Harry, petting his hair gently.
“L-luc?” Harry stuttered strangely, as if it was struggle to think of the words he wanted to say.
“Yes?” Lucius asked.
“What...what happened?” Harry asked.
“When you came downstairs you said that you weren't feeling very well. Then you collapsed onto the floor and had a seizure.” Lucius explained.
“What?!” Harry exclaimed.
“Shh, calm down. It's alright. Healer Perkins came right over and stopped it.” Lucius said.
“Oh good. He's awake.” Healer Perkins said as he walked into the living room. “How are you feeling Harry? Be honest.” He said softly, casting spells that would display Harry's vital signs to him.
“E-everything hurts.” Harry half groaned.
“That's expected. I'll give you a pain potion to help, but I need to ask you something first. We think that whatever is making you ill has been charmed to be undetectable. This would mean that someone is deliberately hurting you and they that would have access to your home. Is there anyone who you can think of who wants to hurt you and who has access to the house?” Healer Perkins asked.
“I-I-I don't know. I can't think, it hurts. Can we do this later? Please?” Harry pleaded.
“Harry, we really-”
“Of course.” Severus said, cutting the healer off. “We'll see if you feel better tomorrow and talk about it then. Okay kitten?”
“Okay. Thank you.” Harry said in relief.
“Mr. Snape. We really need to find out what's going on here!” The healer protested.
“I know, and nobody wants to find out more than myself or Lucius, but grilling him when he's in so much pain will only make him suffer more. He'll be able to give us a better answer when he's able to think clearly. Now, you said you had a potion for him?” Severus said.
“Yes.” Healer Perkins replied with a sigh and handed Severus the bottle. “Make sure he drinks it all. It will make him drowsy and he might act a little drugged. Let him sleep off the side effects and I'll see you again in the morning. Maybe with his help we'll be able to figure this out.”
“Thank you.” Lucius said, showing the healer out. Severus went over to Harry and helped him sit up.
“Come on love, just take this and you'll feel better. I promise.” Severus said, slowly pouring the potion into Harry's mouth. Harry moaned in relief as the potion took effect.
“Sev, can you bring me my phone? I have to call my boss.” Harry said, laying back down in the bed.
“Of course.” Severus said, bringing Harry's phone to him. Draco sidled up to him, fluffing more pillows as Harry pushed the button that would call his boss.
“Its fine Draco. Just give me some space.” Harry said, still not comfortable talking about too much regarding his job while Draco was near.
“I'm just making sure. You scared the hell out of all of us.” Draco said, still not moving away.
“Draco, leave him be.” Lucius said, pulling his son away from Harry when it was apparent that he was not going to move. “Thank you for being concerned. You can help him more in a minute, he just has to call his boss.”
“Alright.” Draco said. Harry's conversation with his boss was quick, but he was put on a medical leave so that he couldn't be called in to do any jobs while he was recovering. It was a good thing too, his boss had just gotten an assignment in that he was going to ask if Harry wanted to take part of.
The weeks passed and Harry was getting better. Lucius and Severus were relieved but also fearful that the illness would come back again. Harry talked with Healer Perkins, but was unable to shed any light on what had caused the seizure. He did nothing and ate nothing that was out of the ordinary. He just started feeling terrible after lunch and when he went to tell his doms he passed out. Healer Perkins and the rest of the team were still vigilantly researching is illness, but so far the had no solid leads.
The strangest thing in the house would have to be Draco's behavior. Ever since the seizure he was going to great lengths to make sure that Harry was comfortable or healthy. It was starting to border on the creepy side. Whenever Harry had to take his medication Draco was there to remind him the second that he needed to take it. He barely left Harry alone, always fluffing the pillows in his sun bed or trying to help Harry down the stairs. It eventually became too overbearing for Harry, who snapped at Draco that he was not an invalid and could take care of himself. That seemed to snap Draco out of whatever strange phase he was in and he went back to his creepy self.
Two weeks later Harry was back to his normal self with no side effects from the seizure. They were all sitting down at the dinner table when Harry got the call.
“I'm sorry. I have to take this, its my boss.” Harry said, getting up and going into the living room.
“Hey boss. What's up?” Harry asked.
“How are you feeling Harry?” His boss asked.
“Much better. In fact, I was going to call you tomorrow to tell you I could be put back on duty.” Harry replied.
“That's good! I was wondering if you could help me out. I need you to search for someone. You have contacts all over the world so I thought that you would be the best bet.”
“Does this have anything to do with the mission the guys just got back from?” Harry asked.
“Yes. With the evidence they gathered we were able to figure out the identity of the leader of the Death Eaters.”
“No way! This is great! We can finally take them down for good. It take it that this is who you want me to look for? Who is it?”
“Yes. His name is Draco Malfoy, the son of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. Narcissa is deceased, but Lucius is still alive somewhere. You might want to start there.” Harry's boss said. Nobody in Harry's group knew the identities of the others' loved ones, it was just safer that way.
“Oh shit.” Harry said in shock, silently summoning his wand to him.
“What?”
“I already know where he is.”
“Where?!” His boss asked urgently.
“In my kitchen eating dinner with my lovers.” Harry replied. His mind had gone into mission mode and he quickly scanned the room for things that could be used as a weapon.
“Don't do anything to tip him off! I'm calling the others we'll be there soon.”
“Got it boss! Just let me know if you need anything.” Harry said loudly and cheerfully as he started walking back towards the kitchen. He hung up as he crossed the threshold and then sat back down in his chair.
“Everything alright?” Lucius asked.
“Oh yeah. Everything's fine. He was just asking how I was feeling and if I could go back on duty.” Harry replied, continuing to eat dinner as if nothing had happened.
“What did you tell him?” Severus asked.
“I told him that I could to back. I was going to call him tomorrow about it anyway.” Harry said.
“Do you think that's a good idea? I mean, what if you get sick again?” Lucius asked.
“Well, the healer said that it was probably somebody who had access to the house that was doing this. So if we limit who comes and goes and watch them carefully when they come over then I should be fine.” Harry said, his eyes flicked over to Draco and then he made them scan about the rest of the room as if he was just looking around.
“Why did you look at me when you said that?” Draco asked.
“I didn't. I was just looking around.” Harry said, taking another bite of his food.
“No you weren't. You looked right at me!” Draco said angrily, Harry sighed.
“Look Draco, I really don't want to fight with you tonight. I'm sorry that I glanced in your direction while I was talking.” Harry said. He sounded bored but his eyes were sharp. Draco narrowed his eyes at Harry.
“You think I was the one who made you sick don't you?” Draco asked poisonously, not letting the issue go. Harry set his fork down and glared at Draco.
“I never said that and I would appreciate it if you didn't put words in my mouth.” Harry said, his eyes fierce.
“You didn't deny it.”
“For fucks sake Draco! No! I don't think that you made me sick!” Harry shouted. He started angrily eating his food again and then slowed to a grinding halt as he remembered everything that the healer told him about how somebody was purposefully making him sick. His gut twisted as he realized the truth.
“Why did you ask?” Harry said quietly, putting his fork down again and sliding his wand into his hand under the table.
“What?” Draco sneered.
“Why did you ask me if I suspected you? I never did before.” Harry replied.
“Harry, what are you saying?!” Lucius asked in shock.
“I had never considered Draco as a suspect. Now, I don't know why I didn't see it before. The healer did say that it had to have been someone who had access to the house.” Harry said.
“Draco?!” Severus said in shock. Draco ignored him, staring at Harry.
“So, I'll say it again. Why did you ask if I suspected you?” Harry asked.
“What did you talk to your boss about?” Draco asked, ignoring the question.
“I think you already know the answer to that question.” Harry replied, bracing his feet to move “Luc, Sev I need you to slowly get up and move away from the table.”
“That won't help them.” Draco said, a maniacal grin spreading across his face.
“Draco, stop this.” Lucius commanded, he and Severus moving away.
“Stay out of this father! It has nothing to do with you.” Draco spat.
“Listen to him Luc. I don't want you two getting hurt, its me he wants.” Harry said, not taking his eyes off of Draco.
“That's right father. Listen to your little bitch, your not the important one here anyway.” Draco sniped.
“When did you figure it out?” Harry asked, pulling a knife from his pants with the other hand.
“When you came back from your last mission. You were careless.” Draco sang. “I found your uniform on the floor of your bedroom and cut this away.” He pulled out the piece of fabric that had the symbol of Harry's organization on it.
“What were you doing to me?” Harry asked.
“I was poisoning you with cyanide. I wanted you to have a long and painful death, just like my mother. However, I gave you a little too much and you had that seizure. I had to back off until you were well enough for me to slip it to you again.” Draco replied, his head cocked to the side innocently.
“Bastard.” Harry said. “Luckily for me, I'm almost back to full health.”
“Yes, pity that. Oh well, I'll just have to kill you now!” Draco said. He lunged forward, tipping the table towards Harry. Harry propelled himself backwards and flipped over the counter. He threw the knife at Draco and then took cover behind the lower cabinets. Draco quickly brought up a protego and deflected the knife.
“It's a pity I have to kill you so quickly Potter. I quite liked watching you all curled up in that ridiculous bed as you try not to puke out your spine.” Draco snarled, casting a red spell that blew off the top corner of the counter.
“The only thing that's ridiculous here is that I didn't take you out sooner! I should have know that you were up to something sinister!” Harry said, retaliating with a stunner that Draco deflected.
“Well, I am very good at deception. How do you think I fooled father into thinking that I was terrified and on the run? He's the best at filtering out lies.” Draco shouted. Harry covered his head as the glass doors on the upper cabinets to his right shattered as Draco's spell hit them.
“It's good that my team is the best at sniffing out traitorous ferrets! We would have found you eventually! Harry cried, firing an incarcerous over the counter, which missed. Draco roared and blasted a hole in the cabinets Harry was hiding behind, missing him by inches.
“Shit!” Harry whispered to himself. Draco laughed maniacialy.
“What's the matter Potter? I thought you were an expert in this sort of thing.” He teased. Then there was a crash in the living room as Severus knocked over a lamp, making Draco look. Harry cast a numbing charm at Draco, hitting him in the leg, and made a run for the hallway. He darted into the living room and just barely got protego up before a spell hit him. Draco cast the countercurse for his numbing spell and got up from the floor, prowling towards Harry. They slowly circled each other in the living room.
“I'm going to kill you Potter.” Draco growled.
“You're crazier than you look if you think that you can out duel me.” Harry said.
“Shut up! I'm not crazy.”
“Oh, did I say crazy? I'm sorry, I mean insane.” Harry said.
“Stop saying that!” Draco shrieked, casting a cutting spell at Draco. Harry dodged and sent the same spell back at Draco. It caught him in the arm, cutting deep and spilling blood all over the floor. Draco stared at his arm in shock before sending Harry a vicious glare.
“You're going to regret that Potter!” He spat.
“Bring it on ferret.” Harry sniped back. Draco screamed and started rapid firing spell after spell at Harry. Harry was deflecting all of them, but they were coming so fast that he couldn't keep up. A cutting hex clipped his shoulder and sent him flipping to the floor. His head smacked the floor and he was dazed just long enough for Draco to send a wordless blue spell at him. It hit him in the chest and Harry tensed, waiting for the effects.
After a few moments where nothing happened Draco looked at his wand in confusion. Harry seized the moment and jumped up, running over and tackling Draco to the floor. Their wands clattered away and the two of them struggled for dominance. Harry was on top and he punched Draco in the face and kneed him in the ribs. He flipped Draco onto his front and pinned him there.
“Severus! Conjure me some restraints!” Harry cried, struggling to hold Draco. Severus did, but then Draco surged up and headbutted Harry, knocking him off. He quickly straddled Harry's hips and wrapped both hands around Harry's throat. Harry choked and bucked his hips, trying to knock Draco off. Draco just laughed insanely and pushed harder. He used his foot to pull his wand over to him, holding it in one hand. Blood was dripping down Draco's arm and pooling on Harry's neck and face.
“Draco stop!” Lucius cried. He and and Severus were trying to pull Draco away but couldn't. They pulled out their wands to stun him.
“Bombarda!” Draco screamed. The spell blasted Severus and Lucius away from him and into the walls, knocking them out.
Harry kicked his legs and reached up to try and reach Draco's face, where he could do some damage, but his arms were too short so he only ended up batting uslessly at Draco's chin. He tried to push on Draco's chest but his strength was draining quickly and his arms ended up flopping down onto the floor. Black spots were appearing in his vision and he was about to fade into black when a loud bang resounded throughout the room. Draco was knocked off of him and Harry started coughing and gasping for breath. He looked up and saw one of his teammates standing by the door, a gun in his hand. Draco screamed, holding his shoulder as blood started to pool around him.
“G-glad you could make it.” Harry rasped, trying to sit up. Two more people ran in and subdued Draco, roughly restraining him and taking his wand. Two others went to Severus and Lucius, reviving them and checking them for injuries. One other started repairing all the damage that the spells did. Then man with the gun holstered it and went to Harry.
“Wouldn't miss it.” He replied.
“Wait..wait. He hit me with..as spell. Don't know...what it was.” Harry said, still trying to regain his breath. The man nodded and stood a safe distance away before started firing diagnostic spells to make sure that he was safe to get closer to Harry.
“Harry!” Lucius cried, going over a soon as he was healed.
“Please sir. Stay back. He was hit with an unknown spell and I can't let you see him until it's safe to do so.” The man inspecting Harry said. Lucius nodded.
The spells had no results so he moved closer to Harry and started healing his injuries.
“Well, there doesn't seem to be any side effects. It could have been a dead spell, or it could not take effect until later. You need to report any strange things that start happening.” The man said.
“Of course.” Harry replied, allowing the man to help him to his feet. Draco had been silenced so nobody had to listen to his ranting screams but Harry could see his mouth moving as he was dragged from the house. Harry just smiled sweetly and waved.
“Harry!” Severus said, him and Lucius hugging him tight.
“Are you two alright?” Harry asked.
“We're fine, were fine. What about you?” Lucius replied.
“Good! I'm good.” Harry replied.
“Agent! I told you not to tip him off!” A man said as he came in the house, looking around incredulously. He was blonde and wore a smart gray suit and black rimmed glasses.
“Sorry boss. He sort of figured it out that I knew.” Harry replied.
“How?”
“Well, it turns out that he was the one that was making me so sick. He was slowly poisoning me with cyanide. I realized it and everything pretty much spun out of control from there. “
“Fuck. Well I'm glad your alright.” the Boss said.
“Thanks.”
“I'm putting you back on medical hold. Just until you work all that poison out of your system and we're sure that spell hasn't done anything awful.”
“Alright, that's fair I guess.” Harry replied.
“Hey, don't look so down. When you come back you'll be up to your neck in missions. In the meantime you should take a vacation, Merlin knows you deserve it.”Boss said.
“We're all done here.” the agent who helped Severus said.
“Good. Let's pack up and move out.” Boss said. “Let me know when you get back from your vacation and we'll talk about when you can come back.” Then he and the other agent's left. Harry let out a sigh and rested his head on Lucius's chest.
“I'm sorry. This must be hard for you.” Harry said tiredly.
“No kitten. Don't apologize. Draco is an adult and made his own choices. This is his fault. I'm just sorry that I didn't see it from the start.” Lucius said, picking Harry up and sitting down in his chair.
“Me too.” Harry replied, snuggling into Lucius.
“So, is that what you typically do at work?” Severus asked.
“Sometimes, but that is glimpse though.” Harry said with a smile.
“You were amazing.” Lucius praised, making Harry blush.
“So! Where should we go on vacation?” Harry asked.
