Tough choices...
Water felt good. Hermione stepped into the shower and let her sore body just soak through. Tired, that what she was. Two weeks of sleeping in a transformed chair by his bed, crappy hospital food and constant stress made her look almost unrecognizable, but it was all worth it. He finally opened his eyes. Doctors wanted to give it a few more days before sending him home, but he was definitely getting better and she finally had a chance to take some time off and attend to her own needs. She closed her eyes and just stood there enjoying the water. Images of Severus started to pop up in her mind and she felt a hard throbbing in between her legs. Gods, she wanted that man. She could see two black pools looking deep into her own eyes, his hands holding tight onto her bottom, his hips pushing forward as he thrusted deep into her. She groaned in frustration, as her hand went down to find her overly sensitive clit. She rubbed it a little and slipped one finger into her wet folds. Her other hand went up to find one of the hardened nipples and she rubbed it between her fingers. Ohh, that felt good. Continuing to move her finger in and out of herself, she lowered her other hand and squeezed her clitoris. She bit her lower lip and threw her head back, feeling a hot waive of release washing over her and making her whole body shudder with pleasure.
She stepped out of the shower, cast a quick drying spell on her hair, slipped into cotton pajama pants and t-shirt and went to the kitchen to get a snack and some tea. Fireplace lighted in green colors as Ginny’s head showed up. – “Hey girl. Finally home, I see. May I come in?” – “Sure Ginns. Come on in.” Hermione hugged her. – “Take a seat, while I grab us something to eat.” She walked to the kitchen and came back with two plates of food and a pot of tea. – “That’s some serious portions, girl” Ginny giggled. – “Oh, I’m so fucking tired of that hospital food, I can’t even look at it anymore. I crave a home cooked meal.” – “Judging by the look on your face, that’s not the only thing that you’re craving” she chuckled. “How’s our favorite professor? Is he coming home soon?” –“Yes, they’ll let him go in a few days. He feels much better.” Ginny narrowed her eyes –“Aaaand? What are you gonna do then?” – “I don’t know yet. I’ve been thinking about it all the time. I can’t just tell him. He’ll freak out again.” – “Yeah, but the war is over now. You think he still has it for you?” – “I know he does. The way he looks at me when he thinks I don’t see… Ugh I need to come up with a plan.” Ginny gave her an understanding smile. – “That man of yours is sure stubborn. It better be a good plan.”
Lite tapping on the window made them turn their heads. Hermione got up and opened it, to let in a big snow owl. She untied the letter from his leg and gave the bird a piece of her bacon sandwich. He accepted the treat, bowed his head lightly and took off. – “What is it, Mione?” – “You know Ginns, I think it’s just what I was waiting for.” She handed the letter to Ginny. – “Oh my God, girl. This is definitely it. She looked at the letter again and announced formally:
Dear Miss Granger.
We would like to request the honor of your company to join us in the celebration of the grand re-opening of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
As we enter the new school year in peace, we would like to honor the ones who lost their lives fighting for it and pay special recognition to the ones who helped to bring it upon us.
The celebration will take place on the 30th day of July 2011 in the Great Hall at 7:00 p.m
Headmaster,
Albus Dumbledore.
Ginny looked at her friend. Uh oh, there goes that lip biting again. She rolled her eyes – “What?” – “I don’t know. What if he doesn’t come?” – “Do you think Dumbledore will let him off the hook so easy? He’ll definitely be there. Don’t worry, it’s gonna be ok. I’ll even help you with your hair and makeup.” – “Thanks Ginns, you’re the best. You can come here early and we’ll get ready together.” Ginny gave her friend a wide smile – “That’s a deal.” Fireplace lit up in green flames again – “Hey guys, hate to barge in like that, but I was actually looking for you Ginns. Mione, may I come in?” – “Sure, Harry.” He stepped out and shook off pieces of dust from his black jeans. He pulled both girls into a big bear hug. – “Professor told me that you went home and I thought I’d find Ginny here.” – “Yeah, we were just… Wait, what? You spoke with Severus and you’re still in one piece?” – “Yeah” he gave her a wry smile “We talked and… I think we’re good now.” Both girls looked at each other in disbelief. Ginny shook her head – “Well, I don’t know what world are we living in, but if Snape and Harry are friends now, you girl definitely have a chance. So Harry, what did you want to see me about?” – “I... Um… I wanted to ask you if you could help to care for a patient.” – “Patient? I guess. Who is it?” Harry shrugged his shoulders and put a hand on the back of his neck – “It’s Draco’s dad.” – “Lucius? As in Lucius Malfoy? The man who served that monster that was responsible for Fred’s death. That same Lucius Malfoy?” Harry let out a deep breath. – “Yeah. Draco and I found him yesterday with his wrists cut open. We rushed him to the hospital and I had to threaten the doctor to help him. They didn’t want to keep him in there, so they sent us home as soon as they could. Today Draco stayed with him, but tomorrow he needs to be in the Ministry and I’ll need to resume my training.” He looked at the floor. “We just don’t have anyone else to ask.” She looked at Hermione and then at Harry – “He really did that?” Harry shrugged his shoulders again – “After Narcissa left them, he shut himself off in his room and warded the door. Draco got really worried when he didn’t speak with him for almost two days. When we finally opened it, he was as good as dead.” – “That’s terrible, Harry. Ok, I’ll help. But just because I really care about you two. I guess, I can be at the mansion tomorrow at around nine. Will that be ok?” Harry looked up at her and smiled. – “Thanks Ginns. You’re the best.” She gave him a little laugh – “So I’ve heard.”
Draco cracked the door open and looked around the room. – “Dad? Are you still sleeping? He walked in when he didn’t hear any answer. He sat at the corner of the bed and brushed off the hair from his father’s face. Lucius gave him a long stare and looked away. Draco couldn’t bring himself to say anything, as he saw his dad’s eyes glistening with unshed tears. He covered one of Lucius’ hands with one of his own and squeezed it a little. They stayed like that a few more minutes, until he heard his father’s voice. – “I’m sorry, Draco. I am so… sorry.” – “It’s ok dad. I’m just glad I could be there in time” he said with a sigh. – “All I ever wanted, is the best for my family. And in the end, I fucked it up for all of us. Forgive me for letting you down, son. I never intended for all of this to happen.” – “I understand. We all make mistakes.” – “Yes, but now my family has to pay for mine.” Lucius turned to Draco and put one of his hands on Draco’s shoulder – “I promise you, I’ll make it better. I’ll bring our family on the level it has always been. Your mother might not be with us anymore, but I am still here and I’ll do everything I can, to clear our name and get you the status that you deserve.” Draco gave him a wry smile – “Look, it’s not about the status, ok? It never was for me. I just want you to get better.” He shook his head – “I just…” – “What?” – “I just don’t want to lose you, like I lost mom.”
Lucius felt a knot in his throat and took a deep breath before he could answer. – “Your mother, Draco… I will never do what she did. I will never, ever leave you. You are my son, and I love you. I might have not been the best father to you over the years, but I can promise you one thing… I will never give up on you.” He wiped a tear from Draco’s face and cupped his cheek. - “I will fix everything. I give you my word. I would also like to spend some time with you. It’s been too long since we did anything together. I want to get to know you again.”– “You do?” – “Yes. Does it really surprise you?” – “A little.” Lucius took a deep breath, feeling a sting of guilt piercing through his chest. He changed topic and went to the safer grounds. – “I assume you’ve been spending a lot of time in the Ministry.” – “Yeah, they’ve been asking a lot of questions, so…” Lucius nodded – “Thank you for handling everything. I should’ve been the one doing it.” – “It’s… nothing.” Lucius gave Draco one of those rare smiles. Draco shrugged his shoulders. Seeing his father smiling was reassuring, but the change in him seemed almost too sudden. He was thinking if he should tell him what was on his mind. Lucius saw his hesitations – “Is there anything you wanted to ask me?” Draco nodded. – “Yes, there was actually something I wanted to talk to you about.” – “Of course.”
Draco took a deep breath. Here goes nothing. – “I’ve been seeing someone.” Lucius raised an eyebrow – “Oh?” – “Yeah, for some time now and I think it’s serious, so I just wanted to let you know.” He couldn’t read his father’s face, it showed no emotions whatsoever. – “Draco, I know it has been tough on you. And I also know that being alone, sometimes pushes you to make all sorts of irrational decisions, but choosing a partner for the rest of your life, should not be one of those.” – “It’s not irrational. We’ve been seeing each other for almost six month now.” – “It doesn’t matter for how long you’ve been seeing each other. What matters is, if this is someone who is truly good for you.” – “Do you not trust me to make a good decision for myself?” – “I do. But you are still very young and decision of this sort, should not come in the heat of the moment.” Draco was starting to get nervous. – “What do you mean?” – “I mean that a good shag son, is just that, a shag. It doesn’t have to do anything with choosing a right partner to spend the rest of your life with.” Draco got up from the bed with his fists clenched – “It’s not just a shag dad.” Lucius’ face was starting to show the signs of concern. – “Look son, I don’t want to argue. Why won’t you tell me a little about that witch you’ve been seeing.”
Draco hesitated. There was no right way to put it. He raised his eyes to his father’s – “It’s not a witch.” – “I beg your pardon?” – “It’s not a witch, dad.” – “I see.” They both kept starring at each other without saying a word. Draco couldn’t bear the silence, he spoke first. – “Aren’t you going to lecture me about it?” – “About what exactly?” – “Dad, I just told you I’m gay. Are you ok with it?” – “I suppose everyone have their own preferences, why shouldn’t you?” – “Really?” Lucius breathed out and pinched a bridge of his nose – “I was young once. I too liked to… experiment. Can’t say that being with a wizard exited me more than being with a witch. I suppose, I could appreciate both aspects of the matter.” – “But, what about mother?”
“Your mother and I never shared any romantic feelings, but we respected one another and did what was expected from us.” Draco looked at his father with wide eyes – “You did what was expected from you?” – “Yes. I don’t know why would it surprise you so much. We both came from well-known and respected families of pure blood wizards. I assume that you, of all people, should be aware of our customs.” – “I am. I guess, I was just hoping that maybe, I was not just something that was forced on both of you.” – “Draco… Come here. Sit.” He came to sit on the edge of the bed again, looking away to avoid his father’s eyes. Lucius reached his hand out and brought the boy’s chin up. – “Look at me son. Your mother and I weren’t blessed with you right away. It took us some time. But when we were finally told that your mother was pregnant, we couldn’t be happier. When I held you in my arms for the first time, I was the proudest father in the whole wizarding world.” – “You were?” – “Yes, and I still am. That’s why I will not judge you for something as insignificant as a sexual preference.” Draco felt a wave of relieve washing over him. – “However” Lucius continued “It still doesn’t have anything to do with marrying the right witch and having an heir.” – “What?” Draco couldn’t believe the words that were coming out of his father’s mouth. – “You are still a Malfoy, son. Don’t you ever forget that.” – “But… you just said…” Lucius took another deep breath, he was trying his best to stay calm, although his silver blue eyes were getting that icy shine that was all too well known when his authority was being questioned. – “I said, that your sexual preferences do not relieve you from your responsibilities.” – “How could you still expect me to marry a witch, after what I just told you?” Draco’s voice was rising to high pitches. – “What I expect from you is to honor the heritage you’ve been born into and respect the traditions that were followed by generations before you.” Draco got up and gave Lucius that same icy look that reflected in his own eyes. – “I will never follow your stupid traditions. I will not marry someone I do not love.” – “You will show some respect” Lucius’ voice was low and as cold as the look his eyes. “You will do as I say, or to help me God…” – “What?” Draco interrupted him – “Or you will do, what? Disown me? I don’t give a fuck about that, just the same as I don’t give a fuck about that traditions you’re talking about. I love Harry and he loves me and that’s all that matters.” – “Harry? As in Harry bloody Potter? That’s the wizard that you have blessed with your affections?”
“Yes. That’s the one. Do you have a problem with that? He loves me for who I am and not for my heritage.” – “Of course, knowing that his own is, nothing to be proud of. Tell me son, have you lost your fucking mind, or is it just a way to get back at me for making some wrong decisions in my life?” – “Some wrong decisions? Which ones exactly are you talking about? Following that fucking maniac that have killed more innocent people than anyone could ever imagined? Making me take that?” He rolled his sleeve up to reveal his dark mark. “To drag our family through so much dirt, that no amount of time would be able to wash it out. Even in years to come, people will still remember what our family did.” – “Draco, I’m warning you. Stop now.” Draco couldn’t stop, though. All the suppressed feelings of guilt and neglect he felt over the years, finally caught up with him. – “No, I won’t stop. I am finally happy. Happier, then I ever was. Why can’t you just do the right thing for once in your damn life and let me enjoy what I have? You fucked up your own life and I let you fuck up mine until now, but I’ve had enough of your shit.” – “I did what I had to do, to protect my family.” – “Bullshit, you did what you did, because it made you feel superior over others. People always were just a fucking tools to you, weren’t they?” Lucius shook his head. Draco’s words were bringing up some painful memories that were put to rest long time ago. There was no stopping to his son’s accusations. – “I said that’s enough, Draco. I am your father, you will not talk to me in that manner.” – “Oh, so now you finally remember that you have a son? Why didn’t you remember that yesterday, when you cut your wrists open? It didn’t matter then, did it? You just wanted to escape from all the shit that you’ve done and leave me to deal with the consequences. You always were a coward. No wonder mother left us.” Lucius gave Draco a long stare and turned away, as his gray blue eyes filled up with tears. Realizing that he overstepped the boundaries, Draco brought the palm of his hand up and covered his mouth.
“I’m sorry, dad. I didn’t…” Lucius brought his hand forward and spoke, not letting him finish the sentence – “I first joined death eaters at the age of sixteen. I was young and stupid. Your grandfather, wasn’t a kind man. Nothing I did, was ever good enough for him. I joined because I wanted to make him proud, but even that didn’t seem to do the trick. I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy the power I was trusted with, but again, I was very young. That same year, your mother and I got married. I have tried to have some kind of relationship with her, but she wouldn’t have it. She was three years older than myself and said that I wasn’t man enough for her, so for the next two years, she was my father’s mistress. Up until the bastard finally passed away. By that time, I had so much going on in my life, I didn’t give a shit. As for your mother, divorce was not an option, so we had an agreement. She was going to give me an heir and in return, she could live her own life the way she wanted and still have all the privileges of being Lady Malfoy. I learned about the return of the Dark Lord when you were just a baby. I offered your mother to leave the country and start over somewhere else. That meant leaving everything we had and starting a completely new life. It didn’t take her long to refuse my offer. Leaving all that money behind, was more then she could bear, so I was left with no other choice than to go back and resume my service to Him. If I would refuse, all of us would be killed, so I had to make some tough choices. I suppose being a death eater for so many years, did affect how I was being judged by people, but what the fuck did that matter, when I had my own family to protect. Having you take your dark mark, was one of those tough choices. It was ether that, or to watch you being killed before my very eyes. It was a simple choosing of lesser one of two evils.”
He paused to catch his breath and rubbed the sides of his head to stop the pounding. All that arguing was giving him a migraine. Draco kept standing by his father’s bed with an expression of pure shock on his face. Never in his entire life, did his father share anything like that with him, but then again, he never cared enough to ask. Suddenly, he felt like he didn’t even know the man in front of him. He was always so preoccupied with his own problems, his own feelings that it simply didn’t occur to him that there might be something behind his father’s usually cold appearance. – “Dad… I… I’m sorry. I didn’t know. I shouldn’t have said what I said. I never meant to offend you.” Lucius breathed out forcefully and not looking at his son, rubbed the sides of his head again. – “You are who you are Draco, no matter how it makes you feel. It might not matter to you much, but your heritage is something to be proud of. Our blood line can be traced as far back as to the tenth century and comes from the Royal family. If you ever take an interest in that, I’ll be glad to show you the books and manuscripts that were passed from generation to generation of our ancestors. I’m sure you’ll find a lot things in there that may be of interest to you. However, your birthday is three weeks from now, at that point you’ll be old enough to decide what you want to do with your life. If you want to throw it away, just to show me that you can, then so be it. After all, you just clearly let me know that you do not give a damn about my opinion, so it should be a fairly simple decision to make.” – “Dad, I…” Lucius brought his hand forward again – “That’s enough. As you can see, I am very tired and I’d appreciate if you left and let me get some rest.” Draco felt a knot in is throat. That was not how he wanted to end things, but for now there was no other choice. His father would not hear anything else at this point. He nodded and left the room.
