I know, I know, I know. Three days late and with many excuses but only one that I can validate. First, I got Tortacalious (I think that's how you spell it) and can't move my head because I was in so much pain (driving sucked). Second, I got a sore throat and cough making my neck hurt way worse. Third, my child has decided to change her sleeping habits and is up until late making it impossible for me to write and type. Fourth and final (and the only excuse I can validate), I took Thunderbirds suggestion to heart and added some to this chapter and I wanted to make sure everything would still fall into place in all the right ways. And now I think that it flows nicely. So without any more wait here is chapter 9. Please let me know what everyone thinks. As always, response to reviews are at the bottom.
“Hermione, please try to eat something” Ginny pleaded. “It will help you feel better.”
Hermione glared at her before picking up her fork, stabbing her kidney pie and putting it angrily in her mouth. “There.”
Ginny sighed. “’Mione, I told you earlier. It didn’t happen. Astoria Greengrass is just trying to get attention,” said Harry. “She’s mad that his mother called their betrothal off.”
“Then why hasn’t he talked to me?”
“Would you have listened to him?” Ginny asked in return.
“Well…no…I guess not,” Hermione said quietly. Just then her bag started to vibrate. “I know it’s your turn but I’m going first this time. Question six: do you trust me?”
Ginny was looking over her shoulder. “Well?”
“I don’t know. What if I saw yes and what she said was true?” Hermione asked skeptically.
“It’s not true. I can tell you that for sure.” Harry answered.
Hermione reread the question before replying, “I guess so.”
Hermione looked over at the Slytherin table. It was the first time she had looked at him since that morning. He was sitting next to her. Draco was looking down, but then smiled and met her gaze. She saw him wink to her before he turned to Pansy and nodded.
Hermione watched closely as pansy engaged the Greengrass into conversation, while Draco opened something and put it in her drink. She turned to Harry and Ginny. “What is going on?”
“We are proving to you how we know Draco didn’t sleep with her.” Ginny stated. “Okay, they are leaving. Let’s go.” Ginny and Harry got up.
“Go where?” Hermione asked.
“To get the truth.” Ginny pulled her out of her seat and followed the Slytherin’s out.
Hermione saw Draco produce a bouquet of flowers behind his back before he turned to face Greengrass.
“Astoria, why do you think you deserve these flowers?” He asked her.
“Because I’m not a mudblood.” Her answer was simple.
“Hmm,” he replied, “In a sense of you not being muggle born, you are correct, but why are earth would you tell all of Hogwarts that we slept together?”
“Because you deserve better then her.” Greengrass put her hands over her mouth.
“Oh, goodie,” Pansy said. “The Veritaserum is working.”
“What?” Greengrass rounded on her. “You put Veritaserum in my juice?” She screamed.
“Actually, I did,” Draco smirked. “What makes you think that I would ever choose you – someone who has no taste and little brains – over someone who is intelligent, easy to talk to and much more alive?”
“Because it’s tradition.” Greengrass stammered.
“Exactly. The Malfoy’s have given up most of those traditions because they are pointless.” Draco starred her down. “Let me make myself perfectly clear. If you ever come between Ms. Granger and myself again, it will be the last thing you ever do.” Draco walked around her to Hermione.
“These my beautiful witch, are for you.” Draco handed her the bouquet of roses. When she looked down at them, she noticed that they were changing colors from red, to pink, to yellow, then blue, followed by purple before going back to red.
“Oh, Draco,” Hermione gasped. “They are wonderful.” She smiled up at him before pulling him into a kiss.
“NNNOOO!!!” Greengrass screamed.
“Ms. Greengrass!” McGonagall said. “Explain yourself.”
“This…this…this…filthy mudblood has messed up everything!”
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Draco starred at Astoria. “She hasn’t messed up anything.” Draco put his arm around Hermione. “Astoria is distraught, Headmistress. My mother called off the engagement so I could find love on my own.”
“Yes, I had heard that.” McGonagall said thoughtfully.
“She thought that she could win over my heart of be my mistress if Hermione and I were to get married.”
“At least until I figured out a way to get rid of her. Since you didn’t choose me instead of her, now I’ll make sure she’s dead by Christmas!” Astoria yelled before slapping her hands over her mouth again.
“Astoria! How could you?” Daphne asked.
“Ms. Greengrass, to my office immediately!” McGonagall said sternly.
Draco pulled Hermione into a hug and kissed her forehead as McGonagall lead Astoria away with a couple other teachers.
“Headmistress!” Potter shouted. McGonagall turned. “She has Veritaserum in her, so she should tell you everything.”
“Veritaserum?” McGonagall looked at him.
“Yes, ma’am. I was able to get some so we could get her to tell the truth.”
“Thank you for informing me Mr. Potter.” McGonagall looked at him sternly before turning nack and continuing to her office.
“It’s okay” Draco murmured. “I promise I won’t let her hurt you. Ever.” He heard Hermione giggle. “What’s so funny?” He asked pulling away slightly.
“You know, I did help defeat Voldemort, right?”
“So?”
“So, I’m sure I can handle a girl, no problem,” Hermione laughed.
“Hey, Granger?” Everyone turned. “I just wanted to say that I’m sorry for what Astoria said to you. It was wrong and hurtful,” Daphne said. “I just wanted to let you know that, and I don’t believe that. Neither do my parents.” She turned to leave with the Weasel.
“Well that was…” Potter started.
“Unexpected?” Hermione finished. “How long have they been together?” Hermione asked, continuing to stare after them.
“I almost forgot,” Draco said quickly. He pulled the bottle of Veritaserum out of his pocket. “There’s not a lot left, but I want you to know the truth.”
“Draco, you don’t have to. I heard it all for myself from her.” Hermione said trying to get him to put the bottle back.
“I know, but that’s not the point. Plus there is only enough to last a couple of minutes.” Before Hermione could stop him, he downed the rest of the potion. “Okay, ask me a question.”
“Draco, this really isn’t necessary.”
“Yes it is. Because I want you to know that I have really deep feelings for you and that I would never purposefully hurt you. I would rather die. You are my life.” He brought his hands to her face. “It was bleek and empty before you came along and I don’t want it to be that way ever again. Hermione, I believe that the more time we spend together, the more I fall in love with you because I have never felt this way about anyone else before. I know it has only been a couple of weeks so I am not going to say that, so I am don’t want you to say it either. Just know that I am on my way there. Now, please let me protect you.”
Hermione was awestuck. He’s falling in love with me? “Of, course,” she replied. Draco pulled her into the most meaningful kiss they had had yet. But it didn’t last long before Ginny interrupted them.
“’Mione,” she said. “I forgot. This came for you today at breakfast.” Ginny handed her the letter. “I already gave Ron his Howler.”
Hermione looked at the envelop before putting it in her pocket. “I’ll look at it later. Right now I just want to go to the common room and work on my homework.”
“That sounds wonderful, love. Can I join you tonight?” Draco put his arm around her shoulders and walked with her.
Hermione laughed. “Yes, you can join me.”
“You guys aren’t going to tell us what happened last night are you?” Theo asked as everyone followed them.
Draco and Hermione laughed. “In your dreams, Nott. The Veritaserum wore off,” Draco said, pulling Hermione closer.
Draco thought the night was going smoothly until about ten when he noticed Hermione wasn’t doing homework anymore, but reading the Weasley’s response letter. Knowing she wouldn’t want to talk about it, he decided to write to her about it instead. “What did they say?”
Instead of answering him, she passed the letter to him. Draco read it, then wrote back to Hermione.
DM: See I told you they would still love you, and that they would still want you in their life.
HG: I just wish everyone wasn’t so put off about me being with you.
DM: Love, I know that I have a lot to atone for. I want to prove myself to them rather then them loving ,e right from the start. Just meet with the, this weekend and talk with them.
HG: Question six – have you told your mother yet?
Draco paused before replying. Not yet, but I was planning to this weekend.
HG: How?
DM: McGonagall informed me before dinner that my mother would like me home for dinner an Saturday night.
Hermione looked at him. “What do you mean?”
He could sense the tension coming off of her. Before she could say something else, Draco put down his quill and turned to her. “I promise you, it’s only for a couple of hours. I have to be there by six thirty and I’ll be back by nine thirty. Mother has finished going through my fathers belongings.”
Hermione started gathering her stuff, not really knowing what to say. “I’m going to bed.”
“Love?”
“I just…I need to get to bed” Hermione replied.
Draco watched her start to walk away before he followed her. Once they were inside her room, he removed her bag from her shoulder and pulled her into a kiss.
After a few moments, he pulled away and placed his forehead against hers. “I will be in Hogsmeade with you on Saturday, and every minute until I step into the floo in McGonagalls office.”
“Promise?” Hermione asked looking up at him.
“Absolutely.”
Question seven. Will you stay with me until I fall asleep?”
Draco kissed her again. “Of course, my love.”
LadyShire: Your words always make my face light up. I love a good Dramione to, but what is a good story without any drama? I hope this chapter made you smile. After I figured out how I wanted it to go, everything just flowed out. But just a little insight, I'm thinking about not making this the end of any of the Greengrass people. We will see though. I'm only three chapters ahead right now. Things like work, my child, and maybe starting a jewlery business and kinda at the front of my mind right now. Just please hang in there with me through this story! I don't know what I would do if you stopped reading and reviewing.
staar: I don't think a lot of people did like Ron and Hermione together. To me it just seems like Draco is better with her because he can meet with her on an intelligence level as well as other level lol. I'm glad to hear that you are liking my story. It really does mean a lot and I hope I didn't disappoint with this chapter.
Thunderbird: As I stated before, I took your suggestion to heart because the more I thought about it, the more I saw how important it is for Hermione to here it straight from him and not just Astoria because Ron did throw her around a lot and because of it she is still a little reserved (well not so much after this chapter lol). I know that because of my past relationships I was always hesitant to trust someone new and let them even a fraction of the way into my life. But I guess that's why my husband and I are as close as we are now. After this chapter, there is not much left that Hermione will question when it comes to rumors about Draco lol. I hope this chapter had what you were looking for. It took rewriting this a couple of times before it came out like this and I just had to let it go and see what everyone thinks. Can't wait for your review.
