One by one the cockpit hoods were lowered over their pilots, each ground crew chief securing the seal locks, then slapped hands to each hood to let each pilot know they were ready. Hearing the two sharp slaps to his shielded cockpit hood, Roark reached out to flip a switch and open communication to all Viper pilots.
"Radio check. All wings report status for launch sequence."
"Lightning," came Harry's voice over the com line. "Reading all green, cockpit is shielded. Ready."
"Ghost," came Rodolphus' deep voice. "Reading all green, cockpit is shielded. Ready."
"Shadow," Rabastan was next. "Reading all green, cockpit is shielded. Ready."
Right on down the line each pilot let everyone know they were ready until, "Fire," Roark said. "Reading all green, cockpit is shielded. Ready. Galactica, Solaria, Acropolis, launch sequence initiated."
"Galactica to all vipers, we copy. Launch sequence has cleared all protocols. You are cleared to launch."
"Copy, Galactica. All wings, launch when ready."
Roark launched first, followed immediately by the others, taking up their planned formation before the three Battlestars, relying entirely on their radar for their spacing.
"Formation complete," came Roark's voice from the Solaria. "Fly safe, boys."
"Nova is directly ahead," Dacian said, taking a seat at the main bridge console. "Contact in five...four...three...two...and contact."
"I have the first of the mines on radar," Roark told them, his thumb already moving over the red fire button on the command stick that rested between his legs, "and firing."
"Mines destroyed..." Harry fired next, then both Rodolphus and Rabastan, "mines destroyed," the Galactica's computer-generated voice told them. "Mines destroyed."

"Well I'll be damned," Thorin breathed as he watched the screens their pilots were on, "it's actually working."
"You doubted their work, Uncle?"
Thorin looked down. "No, Dacian. Never. One thing you can always count on with Harry and Roark. If they're going to do something totally insane and dangerous that most pilots, OR Officers for that matter, would never consider, they come prepar--"
"Fuck! Roark, my radar just went out," Kili called even as he fired.
"So has mine," Ryder and Jacen said together as the computer-generated voice told them the mines had been destroyed.
"Shit! Mine's gone as well," Raphael said.
"We were afraid this would happen," Roark said as he fired, "Mine's gone too, the Nova is just too bright for them."
"It is also getting very hot in here," Rabastan told them as sweat began to roll down his temples and forehead.
"All wings," came Roark's calm voice from the Solaria, "we will guide you through using our scanners. Your core temperatures are also beginning to rise alarmingly."
"Sebastien, are they still within permissible bounds?" Admiral Roark moved from where he stood to the rail closest to Medical Control.
Sebastien looked over the reading for each of their pilots as all three Battlestar's electronic guidance systems took over, telling each pilot when to fire. Looking up, he gave a brief nod.
"Still within bounds, but if their core temperatures reach critical..."
"Let's hope we get through before that happens. There's no way to cool them--"
"Rory, there's burning coming from my laser ports."
"We figured that would happen as well," Harry said as he fired on a cluster of mines. "Just keep firing, Ki. We estimated we'd get through before we hit critical."
"We better," Dylan said, "or we're going to start going boom along with these mines."
"Thank you, Dylan for that bit of pessimistic information," came from Colten. "My eyes are burning from this sweat."
As the tension rose on each of the Battlestars, their pilots monologue with each other keeping them somewhat grounded, especially when Sebastien reported, "Core body temperature approaching critical."
"Man, I REALLY want a nice cool shower."
"You and me both, Jordy. In fact--Hey! I think it's starting to cool a little," Aiden said suddenly.
Sebastien looked quickly to his screens and grinned, "Dad, Uncle Thorin, their core temps are beginning to drop...leveling off."
"Let's see where we are, shall we? Dacian, positive shield."
The thick, heavy shield over the main star field window opened, allowing them to see that their pilots were exiting the Nova, and through the mist, a large, reddish-beige planet appeared.
"There she is, Thorin. Carrilon."
Thorin touched Dacian's shoulder. "Bring the boys home."
"With pleasure," he said, reaching out. "Galactica to all pilots. You did it, boys. All wings return home."
"You are all to report to Life Center--"
"Can we at least take showers first?" came the almost whiny question.
Laughter. "Yes, Jordan, you may take showers first."
The jubilant shouts that followed had everyone smiling, their own celebrations beginning as a smiling Roark turned, "Thorin, let's spread the Galactica, the Solaria, and the Acropolis out, take up defensive positions within the fleet."
Thorin nodded already turning to give the orders to the Solaria and the Acropolis.
