Chance
Draco Malfoy is a twenty-three year old wizard. It?s been
six years since he graduated from Hogwarts School of Witch Craft and Wizardry.
He hadn?t changed much in appearance, his hair was still a silky blonde; his
eyes a deep metallic silver and skin a dove white.
His physical appearances may not have changed all that much,
but his personality had undergone a drastic change, from the spoiled brat that
used to terrorise the students in his school year to a better person. No longer
was he insensitive, hurtful, bitter and cruel. Now, Draco Malfoy was kind,
cheerful, open-hearted and strong-willed.
A lot can change a person?s character, some of these things
can include traumatic experience, love and effort? these are all the reasons
that Draco Malfoy had changed for the better.
Draco was happy with his new life; he had broken all
connections from his past and had moved to start again. He fought to change,
and now he had succeeded, he had accomplished the one thing he had thought was
impossible; change.
Although he had moved away and left the wizarding world, it
didn?t mean he had given up on magic; on the contrary, he still used it
whenever it was possible. He now lived in the muggle world, working a muggle
job; He was an Inertia Designer, the one thing he was good at and enjoyed.
Although it was Draco?s will to change his life and attitude
towards it, Draco had other reasons for the drastic runaway. He had fallen in
love. Not just any love, it was deep yet tragic love. For his love had died.
Yes, Draco had been in love. He was unsure of what that
person?s feelings had been for him, all he knew was that they had spent one
beautiful night together, one night that would forever stay in his heart and
mind, the one night that had given him more love then he could think possible.
He was also given the greatest gift one could hold; he was given a child.
Draco Malfoy had fallen pregnant. Pregnant to the one person
he would ever love, he knew it was possible, and in a way he had hoped that he
would; his hopes were answered. Three months after that magical night he had
discovered that instead of being sick with an unknown cold, as he had believed,
he had been pregnant.
He had cherished the gift. His child, no, their child, he
would take care of. He would love the child; make sure it knew just how special
its father was, and make sure it knew that its father was a brave man, a man
that died like a hero.
It had been during the Great War that this had occurred. The
night before the battle was meant to begin. Draco had been walking down a
corridor, lost in thought and fear; he had looked up and seen the one person
who had stolen his heart standing just in front of him, looking at him with a
sad expression.
They had stood in silence, just staring at each other for so
long, until finally, he began to move closer to Draco, green eyes never leaving
silver, eyes that many would say looked like his mothers; Lilly Evens Potter.
Yes, the person Draco had fallen in love with had been none other then Harry
Potter.
Harry had approached Draco with such a slow pace that it had
made Draco wonder if he was walking or drifting.
Finally he had stooped inches in front of the blonde boy,
his hand raising and stroking the side of Draco?s face and hair. He had then
leaned forward and pressed his lips to Draco?s, a passionate kiss had broken
out until it became urgent.
Harry had pulled back, eyes filled with an emotion Draco
couldn?t understand, yet he knew his eyes shone that same emotion. Then Harry
had taken his hand and taken him to the Gryffindor Tower,
towards his private bedroom. In there, he had made love to Draco, showing the
boy just how much a heart can burn for touch, just how much skin can itch for
kisses. He had shown him love.
There was no words spoken between them on this magical
night, they needed no words, they were both going to war tomorrow, all they
wanted was to feel love, to have one night of bliss before hell came tumbling
down upon them. They wanted to feel loved and be loved.
Well, that next day Draco had awoken in the bedroom alone.
Harry was gone. But that wasn?t it, Harry had taken Draco?s wand, the door was
magically sealed shut? Harry had locked Draco in the bedroom, on the day of the
war.
It had been hours before Draco was finally released, Severus
had found him and rescued him and handed over his wand. He was then told that
the war was over, Voldermort was dead as well as Harry.
He had never understood why Harry had locked him in the
room, if there was one question he could ask the raven-haired boy, it would be
that; why he had locked him in the room, or perhaps why he had made love to
him, why Harry had chosen him, Draco.
But it doesn?t matter anymore, Draco was told by all that
Harry had died; he was told that the boy had drained his magic when he defeated
Voldermort. It had broken his heart. But then, three months later he discovered
he was pregnant, that?s when he thanked Harry for locking him up, to think that
if he hadn?t been locked in there and gone to war, if he had died? or worse,
survived but lost the child.
He would never be able to live with himself if he had lost
his child, his and Harry?s child. The day he discovered he was pregnant he had
made a promise to take care of it, to love it like no other, but then again he
had been scared. What if people had discovered that the child was Harry?s? What
if they wanted to take the child away from him?
He knew what would happen; people wouldn?t think he
disserved to carry Harry?s child. People would protest and demand that the
child be taken away from the Death Eater.
But he wasn?t a Death Eater, he had helped in many min-battles
defend the light side, he had traded over? all because he had fallen in love
with Harry, he had become a traitor because of Harry.
And yet people didn?t believe him, they said that he was not
honest. What did it matter that Draco had taken the truth potion? What did it
matter that he had saved many members of the Order of the Phoenix? He was evil in their eyes. And if
they knew that this boy, this Death Eater, was carrying their hero?s baby, the
last connection to their hero, then they would demand it to be taken, they?d
say that he wasn?t fit to look after their hero?s baby.
He had run away as soon as he had discovered he was
pregnant, he had packed his bags and left London
all together. Never had he looked back, he would die if his child was taken
from him, his last connection to the boy he loved. The proof that the night he
remembered wasn?t a dream, that it was real.
He moved to New
Zealand, a beautiful country. As soon as he
had seen the place he had fallen in love with the lush green grass, the clear
sky. It was his new home.
He had given birth to his child in New Zealand, his child, a beautiful
boy; Carlin, dark raven locks of hair tumbling over tanned skin, sometimes
hiding beautiful green eyes. He had both Harry and Draco?s physic. He looked
more like Harry then Draco, but many people had said that they could see Draco
in the boy.
Draco worshiped Carlin; the boy was six years old now. The
child was spoiled with everything, but that didn?t affect his shy but sweet
personality, the boy was always cheerful and bouncy, he was always cheering
Draco up. Carlin also showed great magical power, not that Draco could expect
anything less, just look at his other father.
Carlin was a sweet child; everyone who met him fell in love
with him. He reminded Draco of Harry nearly all the time. He knew Harry would
be proud of his son; the boy was growing up to be strong, just like him.
It had been six years since he had been to London, six years since he had heard anything
from the wizarding world, and now he had to return to it. He was going back to London; he had to go back
to the wizarding world he had to return to the place he had run away from.
Why? Because he had heard something that he had to see if it
was true? he heard something that he couldn?t believe and had left him in
shock. He had heard that Harry Potter was alive.
As soon as he heard this news he hadn?t believed it. Harry
couldn?t be alive, he had been told that the boy was dead; he had even gone to
his funeral. He was told that he had died when he defeated the Dark Lord. Harry
couldn?t be alive, and yet, he was.
Draco had been in shock and still was. The boy he had
thought to be dead was in fact living. He had tracked down a wizarding place in
New Zealand
and inquired about the hero. What he discovered had placed him even more in
shock.
Harry had never been dead. He had survived. He had been in a
coma for five months before waking. They had only said he was dead because of
the Death Eaters that were still alive, it was too dangerous for people to know
that Harry Potter had survived; people would go after the boy while he was
still down. They had to lie about the hero; they had to spread the news that he
was dead. A year later, once all Death Eaters were gone, they had revealed the
truth, Harry Potter was alive.
Draco had to see it. But he was scared, not only did he have
to return to the wizarding world, to London,
but he?d see Harry again, he?d see the boy, no, man, that he had fallen in love
with? see him alive.
What would Harry say when he saw Draco? Would he not
recognise him? Would he curse him? Would he tell him that that magical night
was nothing, that he had just wanted someone to be with and that Draco had been
the closest and easiest?
And what about their son? What
would he say about Carlin? Would he demand that he take the son? That Draco
leaves? That Draco gives up the child to someone else? Or would he be happy?
Happy to see Draco and to discover that he had a son, that he was a father?
What more, Draco was afraid to find out that Harry was
married, he was scared to find out if Harry had any kids of his own, other then
Carlin. He didn?t want Harry to be with anyone else, though he?d understand.
He was leaving to London;
he was taking Carlin with him and heading back to the Wizarding world. It?s
easy to say that Carlin was ecstatic at the idea, he?d never been to England before,
he?d heard many things from his father, but to finally go there, he was
excited.
Carlin may be only six, but the boy was smart. He had
questioned his father about their reason to returning, when he had discovered
that his other father may still be alive, and was living in London, well, let?s just say, Carlin?s
excitement increased, he?d finally get to see his other father.
They were packed and ready to apparate. Draco was shaking in
anticipation and fear, Carlin was jumping up and down and bubbling over with
questions, this was his first time with apparating.
With a swish of the wand over their heads, Draco holding
Carlin?s small hand and his foot touching the luggage, they were gone.
They were renting a small hotel room in muggle London; he didn?t think
he was ready to actually rent a place in the wizarding area.
They settled in rather quickly in their room, the bags were
unpacked and no sooner had Draco collapsed onto the lounge then he had Carlin
jumping on top of him, begging to go to the wizarding place.
Sighing, the blonde father finally gave in. It was useless
to say no to Carlin when the boy battered his long eyelashes and gave him those
pleading green puppy-dog look. He was a sucker for that look.
Putting on a large winter coat, he helped the small boy
dress, putting him in warm clothes. He had made a deal that they would explore
muggle London,
that tomorrow they would head into the wizarding world? Draco was just trying
to delay his fears. He couldn?t handle the fact that Harry may have someone
else.
Him and Carlin explored London; Draco bought many outfits for Carlin
until it was lunch time and they rested at a nice café, buying his son a hot
chocolate and hot chips with sauce while he had a coffee with hot chips.
Carlin was busy explaining all his favourite things on what
he?d seen so far, jumping up and down on his chair and almost falling off which
made Draco laugh, his son was always good to have around when scared, the boy
made you forget everything and focus on him.
He had missed England, this was his true home. He
had missed the busy area, the shops, the atmosphere, he had missed this place,
and only now that he was back did he realise just how much he missed the place.
It was going to hurt to leave this place.
He was starting to think it was a bad idea coming here. He
should have gone with his last plan, write a letter to Harry and tell him
everything? but then again he had felt that Harry deserved better, a face to face
explanation, no matter how much the idea of going back to the wizarding world
scared him; he would never make it if his son was taken from him.
He knew he was over reacting, but he also knew that there
was some truth there. Harry had a lot of fans and worshippers; if they
discovered that Draco Malfoy was taking care of Harry Potter?s child they?d
demand action; that was his worst fear.
He was also worried about the fact that Carlin looked a lot
like his father, Harry; people would at least have some part of a connection
between the two. What if they found out before Draco could find Harry? What if
they took Carlin away from him?
That night he invited Carlin to sleep in his room, not safe
with the idea of his son being in another room. They had curled up on the bed
together, Carlin falling asleep to Draco?s stories about his other father.
It surprised Draco just how much Carlin was keen on seeing
his other father, the boy was six and bursting with excitement on seeing the
other man.
The next morning was a nerve raking time. Carlin insisted
that they leave early in the morning, so as he had time to explore every shop
there was; the boy was obsessed with magic.
With a laugh Draco?s nervousness slowly faded as he listened
to the boy?s thoughts about the wizarding world. Apparently it was there that
pigs could fly, that was why the term was used; muggles had seen one of the
wizard pigs and used that term. It was humours in Draco?s opinion.
Dressing warmly with a hooded coat, the two left the hotel.
The walk was short but slowly the Leaky Cauldron came into view.
With shaky hands he slowly opened the door, pulling his hood
over his head as he did. He held Carlin, the boy sitting on his hip and arms
wrapped around his father?s neck, it brought comfort to Draco.
As soon as he entered he could feel eyes on him, a few
people had stopped what they were doing and watched him make his way across the
room and into the back. With shaky hands he tapped the correct sequence to open
the door.
Carlin was excited beyond belief when they entered the
world. People in robes were walking everywhere. He wiggled his way down so he
could walk, his father holding firmly to his hand.
Draco made his way through the crowed, his eyes scanning the
people?s faces, but he couldn?t recognise any of them.
Carlin wasn?t looking at the people though; he had spotted a
store he wanted desperately to look at, twisting his hand he broke free of his
father?s grip and ran into the thick crowd.
As soon as Draco had realised his son?s intentions it was too
late, the boy?s small form had vanished through the thick crowed. His heart
skipped a beat and leaped into this throat.
Quickly he ran after the boy, shouting for him to stop.
He was pushing through the crowds when he felt someone grab
his wrist and pull him back. Letting out a startled shout he struggled to
release his wrist but his struggles died down when an arm went around his waist
and he was pulled back into a warm body, a voice whispering in his ear to calm
down, a voice that he recognised and found still had an effect on his body.
Looking over his shoulder he found himself looking into
emerald green eyes that were framed with raven hair.
Again he felt his heart skip a beat, this time in shock. He
didn?t even realise he had whispered the man?s name until he saw the emerald
eyes shinning, a smile morphing on the man?s face as he nodded.
He was looking at Harry, the Harry he had come to find. But
there was no time for this reuniting, their son was more important.
Spinning around in the man?s arms he wrapped his around the
other?s waist and hugged him quickly before pulling back. Harry was looking a
little shocked but his smile had grown larger as his eyes sparkled with unshed
tears.
Draco was holding back his own tears, some in happiness of
finding Harry again and some in fear of their son. Quickly he pulled out of the
others arms and begged help from the man, telling him he that his son had run
away into the crowed, leaving out the fact that it was also Harry?s son. He
noticed the disappointment in the green eyes; he could almost tell that the
other man felt hurt that Draco had found someone to share a child with. But
despite his pain he agreed to help.
And surprisingly enough to Draco, Hermione and Ron were
standing behind them and also agreed.
Nodding he began looking around again, he informed them of
the direction the boy was going and bit his lower lip when he was asked what
the child looked like.
With his silver eyes flickering to Harry he described
Carlin, raven hair, green eyes and wearing jeans a red long sleeve top, as well
as a black jumper and small red scarf.
He noticed Harry?s confusion as well as Hermione?s and
Ron?s. This was it; he had to tell the truth, to finally spill the one thing
that would determine Carlin and his own future. Turning to face Harry he took a
deep breath, eyes watering again as he bit his lower lip, then he said those
words: ?He?s your son, Harry.?
There was a round of gasps, Hermione?s hand flying to her
mouth and Ron almost fainting. Harry was still looking at Draco with wide eyes.
Slowly Draco explained, he had fallen pregnant, yes it was possible for males
to fall pregnant, yes he knew it was Harry?s, despite the fact that Harry was
the first male he had slept with but also because Carlin looked exactly like
Harry?s.
The man repeated the son?s name, his eyes watering again
before he moved forward and enveloped Draco in a large hug.
Draco hugged back just as desperately, whispering the fear
of why he had run away in Harry?s ear and telling him he had only just found
out that Harry was still alive, that?s why he came back.
Harry had pulled back, tears still in his eyes, only a few
escaping. He kissed Draco?s lips and then said they would find Carlin.
Soon they all separated, all calling for Carlin. It was only
five minutes before Draco and Harry found the small boy.
Draco rushed forward and fell to his knees, enveloping the
boy in a strong hug and demanding that he never do that again, telling the
small boy how scared he had been. Carlin apologised, hugging his father back.
When they separated Draco looked over his shoulder, to Harry
who was standing close behind him, his green eyes locked on the small form of
his son. Draco turned back to Carlin and smiled, introducing the boy to Harry
and informing the child that this was his father.
Carlin?s green eyes widened before looking back to Harry,
soon he grinned widely and ran forward wrapping his arms around Harry?s legs.
Harry was looking close to tears as he dropped to his knees
and pulled the boy back to look at him before grinning widely, tears freely
running down his face and pulling the boy into a tight hug.
Draco slowly stood, watching the scene play out in front of
him. He didn?t care that people had stopped from what they were doing to watch
the odd scene, to watch their hero hugging a small child.
Hermione and Ron soon came back and stood at Draco?s side, both
smiling, tears in the girl?s eyes as she watched the scene.
Slowly Draco moved forward, placing a hand on Harry?s
shoulder and kneeling beside him. Harry looked up and smiled at Draco before
wrapping his arms around the blonde and pulling him in, kissing the man?s lips
and whispering his thanks.
Draco was once again given a chance to start a new life, one
that involved Carlin and Harry, one that involved the wizarding world; they
wouldn?t take his son from him, Harry swore to it.
And Harry, well he wanted Draco and Carlin to move in with
him, he wanted Draco to marry him and to become a proper family. A proposal
Draco and Carlin took happily.
The End
Carlin ? old Gaelic
Irish: Means ?Little champion.? In English its spelt Carling. I choose this
name ?cause I like it, of course, lol. I also think
that the meaning suits a child that would belong to Harry and Draco. Sorry if
you don?t agree.
Please tell me what you think, but also refrain from flames?
I didn?t write this story to hear it being downed, I wrote it for my demanding
imagination and so people that will like it can read
it. So please review.
