Chapter One
Thought is deeper than all speech,
Feeling deeper than all thought;
Souls to souls can never teach
What unto themselves was taught.
We are spirits clad in veils;
Man by man was never seen;
All our deep communing fails
To remove the shadowy screen.
Heart to heart was never known;
Mind with mind did never meet;
We are columns left alone,
Of a temple once complete.
Like the stars that gem the sky,
Far apart, though seeming near,
In our light we scattered lie;
All is thus but starlight here.
What is social company
But a babbling summer stream?
What our wise philosophy
But the glancing of a dream?
Only when the sun of love
Melts the scattered stars of thought;
Only when we live above
What the dim-eyed world hath taught;
Only when our souls are fed
By the Fount which gave them birth,
And by inspiration led
Which they never drew from earth,
We like parted drops of rain
Swelling till they meet and run,
Shall be all absorbed again,
Melting, flowing into one.

Draco sat on the Hogwarts Express and watched the scenery as it whizzed by his window, browns, reds and so many different hues of green than the English language had words for. Dark gray clouds grew on the horizon and the sky was overcast, from the rapid way the storm clouds were forming he could tell the squall would begin in less than an hour. Far off in the distance he saw a flash of lightning and fancied he could feel the thunder rumble in his bones if he just closed his eyes.
He was alone, the compartment door shut tight against the world. The moment he had entered the little cubicle he'd set Crabbe and Goyle off on some nonsense mission that was sure to take them the entire trip. Then he'd secured himself a compartment in the so called " Hufflepuff Section ' of the train so as not to be bothered by Pansy Parkinson or some other annoying Slytherin.
A sigh softly caressed his lips as he sank deeper into the chair and his mind. His black robes billowed around him, looking lovely against the bright sapphire blue seat. As his eyes drifted shut his mind wandered down a twisted memory lane.
::Flashback::
He is standing near the center of an empty tower room. The roof points upward and the walls are round, made of cold stone. Through a glass pane in the ceiling the moons full light shines brilliant silver and white. The rooms sole source of light. The only object in the room besides his self and the shadows is a thick tome sitting upon a wooden stand. The stand is made of wood, so dark it's almost black with only the occasion swirl of dark red to let you knows it cherry and not oak. The tome it's self is opened to a spot a little after the middle land so old the pages are yellow. The words are written in High Fairie, the twisted spidery script covering the pages like a web.
His voice did not echo in the tower but instead the words seemed to disappear off his lips as quickly as they appeared, as if the shadows were swaing ing them. Indeed, the more he spoke the colder the room got, and the more the shadows grew. Twisting in on themselves and withering, growing, hissing. Goose bumps appeared on his naked flesh as he stood there, strait and proud.
" Tritasha ri ja sakasha, Tritasha ri ja lakor.
Tritasha ri ja Bava Terra, Tritasha ri ja laqui dak.
Tritasha ri ja gahirt vikor, Tritasha ri ja gahirt vikoras.
Seekit vo lelogus, Lelu drad korpmun siet. "
Silver hair, previously laying soft and lose against his head, free of all gel products, now moved restless by an unseen wind. His pale skin glowed the same silver colour as the moonlight, the same colour as his eyes.
" Hequ sew sietat druyt "
His hands, previously laying still at his sides, now began a slow but stead ascent up and forwards.
"Hequ sew sietat druyt "
The shadows left their corners and slithered across the floor, twisting around the wooden stand and coiling around his feet like snakes but never touching his skin. The moons light grew dimmer, fading away as the shadows took over.
"Hequ sew sietat druyt "
His hands were now at a right angle with his body, palms up to the heavens, strait in front of him. In between them a green shimmering materialized. The glow was made up of billions of tiny green flecks that flitted around between his hands. They created a green glow that rose to be about one meter in length and one sixth of a meter in width.
" Siet lelogus! "
The last two words came out half commanding and half begging, it was the desperate sound a person makes when they know death is only seconds away. The desperate cry of a dying animal. At this, the shadows grew darker, the moons light disappeared all together. And the green glowing flecks that danced between his palms brightened tell they shone like the sun before. Then the shadows were gone, back to their corners, normal absence of light darkness in the corners. The moons light once again filled the tower and resting in his out stretched hands lay a snake.
Draco stood there, unable to control his body as the green serpent hissed and withered in his hands. As he stood there paralyzed, the snake uncoiled its long body. It slithered slowly up his arm, winding around it, traveling up to his neck licking his jugular before traveling back down his torso. Winding around him its cold head rested briefly against his thigh before striking, sinking its sharp teeth deep inside the upper part of his inner thigh. Then the serpent was gone and control over his body returned to Draco, just in time for him to let out a scream that echoed throughout the tower. Vibrating and bouncing of the walls.
Crumpling to the floor, he let off one more earth shattering scream before unconsciousness over took him.
:: End Flashback ::
The slow creak of his compartment door snapped him out of his thoughts. Opening his eyes he saw a scrawny little girl wearing a pair of to big jeans and an oversized plain black t-shirt. Her long blond hair, fair as his, was pulled back in a hasty pony tail and her blue eyes were made more pronounced by the scrape on her cheek. She was obviously a first year, and even more obviously a mudblood.
She was half way into the room before she noticing him. When she did she froze with a deer caught in the headlights expression on her face.
"Oh. I'm s-s-sorry. I didn't realize this room was taken. It was just everyone one else was already seated and I don't know anybody and all the other room's are taken and . . ."
Taking pity on her he said, " Don't worry about it. You can share the room with me. Just shut the door behind you."
A look of overwhelming gratitude crossed her face as she finished entering the room, closing the door behind her. "Thanks so much."
Sitting down on the seats across from him she struggled to find a comfortable position while the silence grew more pronounced, until finally she couldn't take it any longer.
"My name's Karen Holding. What's yours?"
Turning his gaze from the window her stared at Karen. Weighing his thoughts before answering her question.
"Malfoy. Draco Malfoy.
At this Karen giggled and responded, "Bond. James Bond."
The only response she received was a raised eye brow.
"You know. James Bond. Double Oh Seven? You don't know James Bloody Bond? I thought everyone knew about him, he's only the most famous superhero ever!"
"Perhaps all muggles know about this James Bond person but I am a wizard, and most wizards do not know much anything muggle."
"Muggle?"
"It is the wizarding term for a non magical person, such as your parents."
"Oh. That's to bad, I think you'd like Double Oh Seven. He's really cool."
Once again the cabin was silent but this time Karen was even more uncomfortable because instead of returning his eyes to the window Draco kept staring at her.
Noticing how tightly wound the girl was getting Draco searched for a way to help the time pass more quickly, and hopefully quicker.
"What house are you hoping to be sorted into?" he asked.
"Oh, I don't know," she sighed with relief, happy to have found something to fill the silence with. "I was kind of hoping for Gryffindor. I hear they're really friendly."
"It's a good house to be sorted into. Very respectable. Most Gryffindors are very friendly, it's one of the house traits, the other's being bravery and courage. All good things to have in this dreary times."
" These dreary times?' You mean that Dark Wizard people are talking about? He-Who-Has-No-Name?"
At the words she used to say Voldemorts name Draco started laughing hard. It took him a few moments to calm down.
"It's He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named or You-Know-Who but his real name is Voldemort. Lord Voldemort. And yes, that is what I was referring to. But don't call him You-Know-Who. It only increases the fear of the person. And being more scared of Old Voldieworts than necessary isn't something you should do."
"Why not?"
"Well, because not using his name increases his power. A name holds a lot of magickal power in it and using it a lot dilutes the power. In a way, to wizards and witches Voldemorts name has the power to invoke terrible fear. If we refuse to call him by some stupid nickname we decrease his real names ability to create fear in people. And anyways, you can't spend every waking moment being scared of him, oncu'veu've taken all the precautions you can there isn't much more you can do except live your life. If he gets you he does and if he doesn't than he doesn't. So why worry to much if after a certain point you can't control it?"
"Hey, that makes since. Thanks. You must be really smart. Any other advice you want to give me?"
Sitting there for a moment Draco thought.
"Yes, as a matter of fact. Your muggle born correct?" not waiting for an answer Draco kept talking, hurriedly because at that moment the train started to slow down, they had arrived at Hogsmeade. "Don't listen to anyone if they tell you you can't do something because your muggle born. They're lying, your just as good as any so called pureblood. Second, if you do get into Gryffindor make friends with a girl named Hermione Granger, she'll be very helpful in more ways than one. Third, just to be safe don't trust any of the Slytherins. Fourth, when someone calls you a mudblood just ignore them because they're stupid. And finally, don't ever tell anyone we had this conversation ok?"
Then Draco got up and started heading towards the door, the train had stopped and outside you could hear the noise of people bustling around busily.
Doubtfully and more than slightly confused she said, "Ok, but hey, if I really need you can I get a hold of you, discreetly?"
"No, we never had this conversation, we don't know each other and from now on I'm one of the bad guys, got that, mudblood?" He said this harshly, in the patented Malfoy " you're a stupid idiot I'm so above you' voice.
And then he left.
