Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Disclaimer : Remus and Sirius don't belong to me, but what fun I would have if they did. Neither does Azkaban or Dementors, but I don't want them. Quidditch doesn't either, but I think I'd like to try that. Anything else you recognise isn't mine either...I own my computer and my mind.
"Forever Autumn" is from Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds'. I didn't write it...I wish I had. I'm pretty sure it all belongs to Columbia and Sony Music. That's it. Disclaimer is nearly as long as the story...
AN : Written late one night as I was listening to War of the Worlds. I've always loved this song, but this time a plot bunny heard it too. This is the result...it took two hours to write. I know it's been done before, but this is my offering. I hope this particular one hasn't been done before...
~~~ Forever Autumn ~~~
The summer is is fading as the year grows old
And darker days are drawing near
The winter winds will be much colder
Now you're not here
I watch the birds fly south across the Autumn sky
And one by one they disappear
I wish that I was flying with them
Now you're not here.
How long had it been? One month...two...more? A year? No...not a year, it just felt like it. Little more than a month in all reality. The hardest month Remus had had to live through since he'd met Sirius. The first transformation he'd had to go through alone in years. James was gone...never to return. Peter was gone...never to return. Sirius was gone...never to return? His was the hardest loss to bear because he loved Sirius in a way that he didn't love the other two. And Sirius was still alive, even though it was because of him James and Peter were dead. Remus wondered how Sirius was going to survive in Azkaban. He'd always hated being indoors, much preferring the freedom of flying, playing Quidditch or racing around like a maniac, in his animagus form or not. He was much happier outside. He went crazy when forced to spend too much time inside. Being locked up and drained of happiness by the Dementors would surely kill him. Remus shivered. The days were growing shorter. Even winter had seemed fun when Sirius was around.
Like the sun through the trees you came to love me
Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away
Through Autumn's golden gown we used to kick our way
You always loved this time of year
Those fallen leaves lie undisturbed now
‘Cause you're not here
Remus sat under a tree, watching the leaves falling from it, joining the ones already fallen. He'd adored Sirius from the moment they'd met on the train to Hogwarts when they were both eleven. It was an adoration akin to hero worship. Sirius was everything he wasn't. Tall, good looking, confident. Even at that young age he'd possessed a quality that had drawn people to him, girls as well as boys. Sirius and James were long time friends. Remus felt privileged to be included in their group. Peter was a strange addition, but he was there, and soon the Marauders were born. It wasn't until their sixth year that Remus finally admitted to himself that the adoration he felt for Sirius had now become love. He'd dated a few girls, but was only half heartedly interested in them. He'd watched Sirius with girls and felt unreasonably jus. us. More and more he'd found himself just watching Sirius. More than once, Sirius had caught him watching and merely smiled that secret smile of his. The day finally came when Remus, tired and irritable due to late night studying and sleeplessness once he did get to bed, walked into the Gryffindor common room to find Sirius surrounded as usual by a group of adoring females. Sirius had called him over, but he'd told him to "Fuck off." and left. Sirius had found him, twenty minutes later, on the outskirts of the Forbidden Forest, demanding to know what that little scene was about. Remus tried lying...he was tired, he wanted peace and quiet, he needed to study...but deep down he knew it wouldn't work. Sirius could see straight through any lie he could tell. Out came the truth...the admission...the reason he couldn't be bothered dating girls...the "I love...you, Sirius." And he waited. Waited for Sirius' fist to connect with his face...waited for the laughter...for anything. The reaction he got, when it came, was completely unexpected. Sirius chuckled softly and brought his face close to Remus', whispering "At last..." before claiming the other boy's lips in a sensual kiss. They'd consummated their relationship a few days later, hidden from prying eyes, once again on the outskirts of the Forbidden Forest. Amongst the red, gold, orange and brown of the Autumn leaves, the late afternoon sun warming their bodies. Sirius had said the colours suited him perfectly, matching the tawny gold of his hair and eyes and they'd laughed - they were happy.
Remus sighed and pushed the hair from his eyes irritably. It was getting windier now and storm clouds were blowing in. He stood up to walk back to the house, dragging his feet through the fallen leaves. How easily that happiness had ended...how suddenly. The wind blew the leaves around his ankles and the rain started, gently at first, then becoming the storm that matched his mood.
Like the sun through the trees you came to love me
Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away
A gentle rain falls softly on my weary eyes
As if to hide a lonely tear
My life will be Forever Autumn
‘Cause you're not here.
