— CHAPTER ONE —
A young woman barged into
a dimly lit office, bushy brown hair flying around her. “Ron just told me –
what’s this about you planning to attack Hogwarts? Are you mad, Harry?”
After killing Voldemort, Harry
Potter had at last realised that he carried within himself power and Darkness
that equalled the late Dark Lord’s. Fate had said so:
he was Voldemort’s equal. And he had decided to
make use of that power … by taking over the Dark Order. Voldemort’s former
Death Eaters now answered to him, as did many others who had been particularly
loyal to him at Hogwarts.
The successor of Lord
Voldemort sighed in annoyance. “I told you, Hermione, I have gone over this at
least a dozen times!”
“I still don’t think it’s
wise. I mean, everyone knows Dumbledore is an extremely powerful wizard, and
he’s had centuries of experience in duelling … you can’t possibly match him!”
If anyone else had dared
say such a thing to a Dark Lord, they would not have
survived to see next morning. But this was Hermione,
the old friend who had stood by him even after he turned to the Dark Arts … “I
have been planning this for months now,” said Harry firmly. “I’ve taken care of
all the possible outcomes, so there is no flaw you can find in this plan, and
you know it!”
“Fine!” she said
loftily. “But remember I warned you, Harry! Don’t come crying to me when you
fail!” she said arrogantly, whirled around and disappeared through the door,
throwing a disgusted look at the Death Eater standing by the door.
Harry had a look of utter
irritation on his face. Ron and Hermione were his most trusted lieutenants, but
Hermione went too far sometimes. She really needed to learn her place, because
she seemed to be stuck in the belief that he was still her best friend at
Hogwarts. For years now, she had still not come to terms with the fact that her
best friend was the Dark Lord, the leader of the Death Eaters, feared by all …
“Insolent Mudblood,” commented
a drawling voice, and Harry’s head snapped up abruptly. This time, however,
Harry could find no objection to the worlds of his predecessor’s right-hand
man. I really need to teach her her
place, he mused, but how?
“Damned woman,” he
muttered. “Annoying, rebellious … Lucius?” he said suddenly.
“Yes, my Lord?” the
grey-eyed wizard said smoothly.
“What is your opinion of
Hermione?”
“I have just said it, my
Lord,” drawled the Death Eater. “And it is an opinion you seem to share, my
Lord.”
His green-eyed master
shook his head. “No, I meant really – what do you think of her?”
The blond man looked
startled. “She is a smart girl, my Lord, but …”
“You consider her
inferior, don’t you?” supplied Harry.
Lucius’s grey eyes took
on a look of fear. “Of course not, Master, of course not … I
know she is your trusted friend –”
“You forget I can sense
it when you’re lying, Lucius,” Harry cut in. “You consider her inferior,
unworthy of magic … admit it. Don’t lie to your Master.”
“Very well, my Lord. I do
indeed dislike those with impure blood … especially those who do not know their
place … forgive me, my Lord,” Lucius said with apprehension in his voice,
fearing reprisal, no doubt remembering that his Master’s mother had been a
Muggle-born as well. But Potter was smiling, looking
unexpectedly pleased about something all of a sudden.
“I am glad you consider
Hermione as … exasperating as I do.” Lucius looked up, hiding his
surprise at these words. “Lucius, I want you to show her just how inferior she
really is.”
“Pardon?” The normally
emotionless Death Eater looked highly disconcerted.
“Show her. Prove to her
that she’s below us … in move than one way.” Harry smirked maliciously. “You
know what I mean, Lucius.”
“My Lord,” he said
incredulously, “you want me to …” he could not find the words to describe his
surprise. He couldn’t believe what he had heard. Would
his Lord really allow him to … do that to his
Mudblood second-in-command?
Lucius had never
understood why his Master had named a Mudblood and a Weasley as
his deputies, or why he trusted their advice, giving them control over the rest
of his faithful followers. Had the Dark Lord finally seen sense?
“Am I not mistaken in
saying you find her … pretty?” said Potter
snidely.
“…”
“Lucius, I can sense
lies.”
“Oh, very well, Master.
She is indeed something of an alluring thing … she looks desirable in her
indignation.”
How many times have
you had the urge to push her down to the floor and silence her … the hard way? reminded an annoying little voice in
Lucius’s head. To show her her place … she’s so
pretty when she blushes, and – oh, how delightful it would be to see her cry,
the stuck-up little Mudblood … what a pleasure it would be to bring her to
her knees, to have her naked body beneath him, helpless and blushing despite
herself … But I can’t do it, Master would never permit it!
“You are more powerful
than she, in so many ways,” said his Master, emerald eyes glittering. “So show
her. Show her just how much. Show her how powerless she really is, despite what
she thinks … I’ve had enough of her arguing with me. I’m sick of her self-righteous attitude. I want you to … court her. Humble her, Lucius. You are probably
the only one of my followers strong enough to tame her … use your charms, she isn’t experienced enough to resist them indefinitely.
Already, you fluster her …
“She believes she’s
always right. Make her realise she isn’t … Make her fall for you, and when you
are the only one she’ll listen to, tell her how naïve and wrong she is and how
annoying your really find her. Make her doubt herself …
“Whenever she starts
being her annoying self, when she begins to babble about house-elves or
half-breeds or books, I want you to shut her up … in whatever way it takes.
When she starts rattling about how wrong my decisions
are and how I fail to see the ‘Light’, make her forget what right and wrong
are.
“I know you’ve wanted to
do it for ages, and my wrath has been the only thing stopping you … well, you
now have my permission, Lucius. I even allow you to call her a Mudblood if you
wish.”
Lucius’s cold grey eyes
glinted in delight and anticipation. Never had he felt so glad he had joined
the new Dark Lord.
“I want you to humble
her,” continued the one who called himself Lord Potter. “But do it gently,” he
warned, a hint of menace returning to his voice. “I don’t want to see any
violence, understood? No Cruciatus or anything of the sort. I will not have my
followers hurting each other. Be forceful; dominate her … but no violence.”
“Of course, my Lord …
there are so many other ways … a truly powerful man needs not be brutal to be
obeyed, particularly by a woman.”
“Wise words, Lucius. I am
sure I won’t regret trusting you with this, will I?
Deep down, Hermione is insecure. Deep down, she knows she is inferior.
It should not be hard to make her admit it … but I don’t
have the patience to do it myself. The fact that she still sees me as her old
school friend would only hinder everything, and that’s
why I’m giving you this mission. Bring her back to me, changed, and I’ll reward
you greatly.”
“Thank you, Master,”
Lucius drawled, as though he scarcely dared believe his luck. Harry nodded to
him – a sign of dismissal. Lucius hurried out of the Dark Lord’s study, plans
forming in his head. “Well, my pretty little Mudblood, now you are in for it,” he
murmured.
Back in his dimly lit
study, Harry had a similar gleam in his eyes. “Hermione, you won’t know what
hit you,” he said to no one in particular.
