A/N: Well, up until now, I have stuck to just reading, but now I have decided to brave it and actually write!
Please tell me though, if I should just stick to reading!

**This story is a response to Shadow's challenge...I just changed it up a bit. **

Chapter 1: Stupidity reaches a new level

All of the members of the Order of the Phoenix sat around a big round, wooden table.
Much like King Arthur. Albus Dumbledore, wizard extraordinaire, was seemingly staring
out into space, the twinkle in his eyes lost.

Suddenly, a young voice spoke up. "Wait, someone tell me again HOW exactly this happened."

"Well, Harry it is pretty simple." 17-year-old Hermione Granger answered, "obviously the Ministry
of Magic is stupider than we thought. They have let some death eater talk them, or force them
into passing this 'Muggle-Born Slavery act.' Meaning, as of this time tomorrow, any pureblood family
can petition for a muggleborn to be their personal slave."

"Well, what if the muggleborn doesn�t WANT to be a slave?" asked Ron Weasley.

The serene old headmaster spoke up now, out of his previous daze. "The thing is,
there is no 'what if,' the muggleborn victim will be forced to either subject themselves
to the law, or kill themselves."

"So what are we gonna do about Hermione. I mean she is muggleborn, and I am sure
the death eaters can't wait to get their hands on her." asked Harry.

"Well Harry, we are working on that problem now, but we really have nothing to worry
about until someone actually petitions for Hermione. Hopefully by then we will be able to
get this new law repealed. This is probably by far the stupidest law ever passed, there is
no reason for it!"

With that, the adults started to discuss some other topic, while Hermione sat, staring into
space, wondering when her life got so fucked up.

The next day went by uneventfully. There was still a good two weeks before summer
vacation was over, and Hogwarts reopened, so Hermione spent the day going through some
of the books in the Grimmauld Place library.

About noon, a large brown owl pecked on the window outside. Hermione looked up confused.
The wards on the house should keep all unwanted objects at least twenty feet away form the
house, so what was this bird doing pecking on the window. Not sure what to do, Hermione just ignored it.

From behind came a deep, rich voice. "Well, are you going ot open the window or not!" snapped
Professor Snape. He then walked over to the window and let owl in. He took the letter and sent
the owl back on its way. Taking another look at the letter, he noticed it was for Hermione. He
also noticed it had a ministry seal on it.

Professor Snape walked over and dropped it in her lap, looking at her expectantly. She took a
glance at the letter, and her face turned a pale white. She too must have realized what the letter was for.

"Well, are you going to open it. Or is the Gryffindor Know-It-All too incompetent to open a letter?" snapped Snape.

Blushing slightly, Hermione ripped open the envelope to find a piece of paper in it.

Dear Ms. Hermione Granger,

As of 11:30 A.M. the Ministry of Magic has received one petition for you, regarding our
new law. You have 48 hours to sign the contract, selling you into slavery with the petitioner,
or sign another contract should you receive any more petitions within the allotted time.

Sincerely,

Madame Durwerther

Looking up, Hermione quietly said, "Well, here it is. My life is officially over."

Bending over, Snape took a look at the letter, then back at Hermione.
She had a lost sort of look in her eyes, and Professor Snape didn't blame her.
He had seen first hand what kind of man Lucius was, and it wasn't a good thing.

From the doorway, they both heard a voice that startled them.
"Don't worry Ms. Granger, I have a plan to get you out of this."

A/N: Well, there it is. Chapter one. I like this story idea, it could lead to some very
interesting lemons. But, I need help coming up with a legitimate reason for the law
being passed. That was where I was wondering if some of you wonderful readers could
help me out. Just leave me a review with your ideas!
