It was the type of party that would make Father glare, and Daddy sigh. Looking around the banquet hall, Rose could see all sorts of Ministry big shots and tonnes of wizards, sporting impressive beards and medals, and ribbons of all shapes, sizes and colors.
Daddy walked in beside her and glanced about the room, obviously seeing the same things she had because he let out one of his 'here we go again' sighs. He looked so young and handsome that Rose couldn't help but sigh herself. It surprised her that none of the witches and wizards milling about the entranceway sighed, or even looked his way. Everyone always noticed Daddy, and made a fuss over him, which was why he was always sighing - if Brian was to be believed anyway.
She walked with him across the room, noticing that no one glanced his way or called his name. The music hadn't stopped and people just kept on dancing. It was very odd. Rose had seen all business stop in Diagon Alley when she went shopping with Daddy, and had grown used to it.
Daddy looked around again and spotted Father along the wall. He moved straight over and Rose followed. Father, as expected, was glaring out into the room. Not at anybody in particular, but a general type of glare to keep anyone from wandering over and daring to talk to him. Father had always been like that - if Brian was to be believed.
Father looked young too. There was no gray in his hair and fewer lines on his face, and his skin looked rather pale. Daddy moved to stand beside him and glanced out over the room before turning his gaze back to watch Father's profile.
Rose was more than a little confused. Was Father angry with Daddy? Was he ignoring him?
"Enjoying yourself?" Daddy asked blandly.
Father startled and sent Daddy a surprised look, as if just seeing him. He smirked and turned back to the crowd, watching the dancers twirl by.
"Mr. Potter, are you aware that if you speak to someone while under a 'Notice-Me-Not' charm, it is rendered useless to the person you address?" Father said with a bit of a sneer.
Daddy smirked back at him. "Yeah, I knew that."
"Why the charm?"
"Because I'm not ready to be seen yet."
Rose giggled. No wonder no one had made a fuss over Daddy.
"Really? This revelry is for you, you realize," Father sneered. It really wasn't all that attractive.
"Yes, I'm aware of that too." Daddy seemed very composed.
"So why are you denying your public the opportunity to fawn over you?"
There went Daddy's composure. He looked angry then. Everybody knew Daddy hated his fame.
"Right. Because I'm so fucking arrogant that I need attention twenty-four hours a day seven days a week." Rose flinched at the tone. It wasn't often that Daddy got angry.
Father sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose, which he always did when Daddy used bad words. "Then why are you here now?"
"Because I wanted to see you."
"See me?" Father almost choked on his disbelief.
"Yes," Daddy insisted. "What you did meant a lot to me and I thought - well - I wanted to-"
Father crossed his arms. "Wanted to what?"
"To thank you."
"For what?" Father snapped.
"After Dumble-" Daddy cleared his throat. "After what happened, I was a little lost." Daddy still had difficulty speaking about Uncle Albus sometimes. Brian was named for him so Rose knew the man had meant a lot to both her fathers, but whenever his name was brought up, everything got real quiet or people laughed. Rose could guess that even though Uncle Albus was supposed to be so brilliant (as Brian said, and he knew everything there was to know about Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore) he must have been very strange.
Father snorted, but it wasn't in amusement.
Daddy nodded. "I know you were lost, too. I was wrong to call you a coward. There's never been a braver, or more dedicated agent for the Order than you."
Father looked surprised and a little suspicious. "Your point, Potter?"
"Well, without all your help, I never would have been able to find the rest of Horcruxes and defeat Voldemort. And I just wanted to thank you."
Daddy was looking at his feet and Father sent him a glance, but it was brief.
"I did it for the greater good, Potter. Not for you."
That had certainly not been the way Rose had heard it. She'd heard Father say that he did everything he did during the war exclusively for Daddy and the rest of the wizarding world could rot as far as he was concerned.
"And the world has thanked me," Father continued. He picked up the medal off his chest. "Order of Merlin, First Class."
Daddy nodded with a small smile. "Yes, but you did so much more for me. Knowing you were in there, paving the way for me." Daddy looked up. "Risking your life every day, it gave me hope and purpose. I figured if you could do all that you did, at great danger and sacrifice, then I should do my best."
"Well you did that, Potter. Well done," Father said with a contemptuous sneer that Rose had never seen before. It was awful. "Is that what you wanted to hear? More praise?"
"No, damn it!" Daddy said sharply, and Rose wondered if Father was purposely trying to get Daddy angry. "I've had enough praise, mostly from people I couldn't care less about, and who, ironically, usually sound more sincere than you just did."
Father snorted again, but this time there was amusement lighting his eyes. Rose was relieved to see the Father she loved in this harsh man. Daddy was one of the few people who could make Father laugh. Because of his 'cynicism,' Brian always said. Brian liked to use big words to impress Father so Rose guessed he knew what he was talking about.
"What you did," Daddy went on, "made me want to succeed so that one day, I could stand in front of you, man to man, and thank you for everything. Even your scorn and derision kept me grounded."
"I have news for you then, Potter," Father said with a sneer, and Rose wished he'd stop being so mean. "I treated you with 'scorn and derision' all those years because I hated your father."
Daddy nodded and let out a deep breath. "I know. But the result was the same. And I had hoped that sooner or later, hopefully sooner, you might come to see me as Harry and not as James - or some extension of Sirius."
"Why?" Father growled. "Why would you want me to do that?"
Daddy's chin inched up. "Because I respect you. Because I'd like to get to know you better. Because there's no one in the room who's as sexy as you are." The last was said so softly that Rose almost missed it. Daddy was looking out over the floor again and she could see the color high on his cheeks. She felt herself blushing too.
Father was blinking and he straightened to his impressive height. "I beg your pardon?"
Daddy looked back up into Father's face. It was a point that always bothered Daddy, that Father was still so much taller than him. Because of the way Daddy's relatives raised him, if Brian was to be believed.
They were staring at each other intently. They did that a lot. Rose always got uncomfortable watching them when they looked at each other like that. She could always feel some sort of tingle in the air. Rose had always thought it was love, but Brian said it was just their magic mingling together. Brian was pretty smart, even if he was a big git.
"Nothing," Daddy said, turning his face away.
Father crossed his arms again and turned towards Daddy, this time making his robes flare around him. Seeing it, Rose giggled, thinking of how Daddy always said he looked like a great bat when he did that.
"And what do you suggest I do, to explore this…'respect' of yours?" Father dared.
Daddy looked up, his eyes wide. "Um, we could, well, we could-"
"As I suspected, and quite typical," Father said. "Plunging ahead in true Gryffindor fashion, with no contingency plan in place if factors manage to play out favorably."
Daddy's chin shot up again, the way it always did when Father challenged him. "How about drinks after the party?"
"After?" Father 'tsked' and shook his head. "I'm afraid I'll more than likely be too mentally exhausted after a function such as this."
"We could leave early then," Daddy suggested. "I only have to show my face and wave."
"No speeches tonight?"
"Hermione was unavailable to-"
Father snorted and his lip curled ever so slightly. Father always told Rose that he had a lip malfunction or something silly, but Brian said he was just too embarrassed to laugh in public. "Granger writes your speeches?"
"You think I'd be able to come up with anything coherent?" Daddy scoffed. "Believe me, after seven years of your classes, I do know ALL my shortcomings."
"Then why would I endeavor to remain in your company if you yourself find it less than adequate?"
Poor Daddy's jaw dropped open, and he looked positively crestfallen. He sighed and inclined his head. "You shouldn't, of course. I won't take up anymore of your time."
As Daddy turned to move away, Father's hand shot out and took his arm. "After seven years of my classes, Potter, I'd have thought you'd have thicker skin."
Daddy looked up tentatively and a small smile pulled on his lips. It was a knowing grin Rose had seen often, usually when Father did exactly what Daddy had wanted him to do. She wondered if Father had any idea that Daddy did that.
Unfortunately, Father grabbing Daddy's arm like that had drawn attention to them and the fussing began. That 'don't notice me charm' or whatever it was must have been cancelled by the touch.
"Harry, when did you get here?"
"It's him. It's Harry Potter."
"There he is."
"Isn't he a dish?"
"What's he doing with Snape?"
"I'll be in the front by the fountain in one hour, Potter," Father whispered harshly. "I will not wait."
Daddy nodded as people began to surge towards him. With a sigh, he turned a smile to the crowd. Father started glaring again. Rose realized it must have been a memory of just before her parents had become a couple and she smiled. She guessed Brian was right in thinking that Father was sort of rough around the edges. The 'great greasy git,' as Daddy liked to say.
~~~~~~~~~~
Suddenly, Rose's arm was grabbed and she was pulled backward until she found herself back in the parlor of the Potter-Snape manor.
"I’m telling Father you were in Dad’s pensieve again!"
Yanked out from the silver liquid, Rose squealed, "Brian, you tattle-tale!"
"You know those memories are for Father," Brian snarled. "Dad always collects a group of memories to make a pensieve for him for when he gets home after the school term."
"I was just looking-"
"And you shouldn't be," her older brother snapped, crossing his arms and looking more like the Father she had just seen than he would probably want to know.
"Oh shut up, you great git," she said, trying not to look into those black eyes, like Father's, that made her squirm. Just because he was six years older than she was, and at Hogwarts, and a Prefect, he thought he was so much better than she was.
"Then clear out of here before they get back," Brian said crossly.
***
Brian had arrived home from the Hogwarts Express last night and Dad had gone to meet Father in Hogsmeade for dinner. They would have a family dinner tomorrow night.
He watched Rose high-tail it out of the room and let the Slytherin smile creep onto his face. Looking back at the silver basin, he drew his wand and gently put the tip in.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Excellent move, Potter."
His fathers were sitting across from each other with a chess set between them. Brian recognized it as Father’s.
Dad looked down at the chess pieces with surprise. "Really?"
Father smirked and dragged his queen across the board, taking Dad's bishop. "Yes," he said with smirk. "For me."
Dad rolled his eyes. "You certainly seem to be in a hurry to beat me tonight," he muttered, studying the board.
"Perhaps I have something else planned for tonight."
Dad looked up sharply, his mouth slightly opened in surprise. "I-I'm sorry," he stammered, standing up. He was wearing Muggle clothes, Brian noted. He wondered if Dad had always known how those tight jeans seemed to affect Father. "If you had other plans, you should have said."
Father looked up, his scowl fiercer than Brian could recall seeing it. He stood up abruptly and knocked the chessboard over. "By Merlin, you are the most idiotic man I've ever met."
Dad flinched but after a moment of thought, he frowned. "What-"
Father grabbed Dad by the front of his shirt and pushed him solidly against the wall. "Potter, I have gone through the stages of courtship with you-"
Surprised, Dad blurted, "You have?"
Father's glare became incredulous. "Certainly. I have taken you to dinner-"
Dad gasped. "Right, and you insulted the chef and hexed the waiter-"
"The veal was entirely too well-done and the waiter was incompetent," Father snarled and went on, "I have also accompanied you to the Muggle cinema and the theatre-"
"Where you spent the whole time commenting on how magic was better and how even my life was more adventurous than that 'poor excuse for an actor' on the screen," Dad put in. "And you actually fell asleep in the theatre."
"It was tedious."
"It was a bloody musical."
"Well, no one heard me snore then, did they?" Father replied with a sneer.
"So what are you getting at?" Dad asked warily. Brian had never seen him look that apprehensive before. Father still had him pressed firmly to the wall, although Dad could have knocked Father across the room with a wave of his hand if he had wanted to. "Do you not want to see me anymore?"
Father grunted and slammed Dad into the wall again. Brain snorted at Dad's wide-eyed, innocent look. He really was more Slytherin than he ever let on. "I was simply assuming we'd be able to take it to the next level, by now," Father said tightly.
"What?"
"By all that is bloody magical," Father swore then pressed himself against Dad while his lips found Dad's mouth, which was open in shock. Dad's arms moved to wrap around Father's neck, his fingers clenching in Father's hair.
Father pulled away suddenly and turned away.
Dad was breathing hard. "Was that the next level?"
Father looked at the ceiling and started muttering in another language. He was fluent in like five or six, and could read several dead languages, but Dad spoke Parseltongue. Brian always thought being able to talk to snakes was cooler.
Dad smiled at Father's back. If Father had seen it, he would have seen why the Sorting Hat almost put Dad in Slytherin. "If you wanted sex, Snape," Dad said casually. "You could have just asked."
"Me?" Father spun around. "You-you're the bloody teenager," he stammered which was amusing in itself. "You're the one who should be-" He cut himself off and turned away, shuffling papers on the desk.
Brian didn't recognize the room so he figured it must be Father's private quarters at Hogwarts. As a student, even one in Slytherin, Brian had never been further than Father's office.
"Should be what?" Dad dared. "Should be always ready for sex?"
Father inclined his head although he did not turn around. "Unless you don't find me attractive," he murmured.
Dad snorted. "I believe I have already said that you are the sexiest man in the castle."
Father turned back. "Including Lupin?" he asked curiously.
Dad made a face. "Remus was friends with my father."
Now, Father crossed his arms. "Oh, so you can only indulge in sexual relations with people who hated your father?"
Dad tossed his hands up in exasperation. "There's only one man I want to 'indulge in sexual relations with.' But I told you I wanted to get to know you. I don't want to rush you."
Father looked exasperated. "Great Merlin's ghost," he swore. "Where is this tripe coming from? Are you sure you're a man?"
Dad's chin shot up indignantly. "Well, Hermione said-"
Father held up a hand. "Say no more, I beg you," he said. "That is the view point of women, who think that it's better to get to know someone before committing their body to the relationship as well."
"You mean it's not?" Brian didn't think Dad looked as sweet and innocent as he was trying to appear.
Father shrugged broadly. "Of course, the more familiar you are with your partner, the more intimate the act will become," he explained. "The stronger the feelings get, the more intense the experience will become as well. But there is no reason to abstain in the course of a relationship, unless of course there is no chemistry, no attraction."
Dad slowly moved the distance between them. "I always thought she was full of crap."
Father snorted. "I'm sure she is full of a lot of things, Potter. But in that particular case, it is called estrogen."
Dad pushed up against Father's chest. "So do you think there's chemistry?" he asked, looking up with that innocent expression again.
Father's eyebrow climbed up. "Well something definitely seems to be stirring."
Oh Merlin, that was just too much information for Brian. Just listening to all the talk of sex was getting him a tad tense himself. The last thing he needed was images-
"I think that's quite enough for your eyes."
Brian swung around, startled. "Uncle Draco. What are--? I-I mean, where did-"
"Never mind, nosy." Uncle Draco grabbed him by the collar of his shirt. "Let's go."
~~~~~~~~~
They landed back in the parlor and Brian started forming excuses in his head. "I swear, I didn't mean-" he began.
"I know precisely what you were doing, young man, and being the son of the Great Harry Potter, the Boy Who Keeps Living and the Man Who Defeated the Dark Lord, I'd think you would be ashamed of yourself."
Brian looked at his feet, his face burning.
"Although you are a Slytherin," Uncle Draco muttered.
Brian looked up, a smile tugging his lips, until his godfather scowled. "Nevertheless, your father's private memories are not something you should be browsing in."
"I know," Brian said guiltily. "What are you doing here, anyway?"
Uncle Draco looked insulted. "Do I require a reason to visit my favorite niece and nephew?"
Brian could have taunted him that he and Rose were his only niece and nephew. But he liked his uncle, who spoiled them rotten, and didn't want to hurt him by bringing up that most of his family and friends were dead.
"Well, no," Brian said instead. "But Dad and Father aren't home and I'm not sure when they'll be back."
Uncle Draco rolled his eyes. "I know that," he said. "They asked me to stop by."
There was no need to explain it further. Brian stood tall, all guilt dissolved by resentment. "I'm fifteen, I don't need a babysitter."
His uncle chuckled. "Brian, no matter how old you get, your fathers will always worry," he explained. "Besides, I brought presents."
Brian's resentment quickly faded. He wasn't sure how, but he was certainly glad that, despite the war, Draco Malfoy had held onto his fortune. He thought he'd overheard Dad telling Uncle Ron that is was because of the money and information he had given to the Order. Regardless of the reasons, it meant expensive presents for Uncle Draco's favorite niece and nephew.
"What did you bring?" Brian asked. "Is it a new broom? I heard the new Firebolt model is beyond comparison."
With a knowing grin, Uncle Draco waved at Brian. "Why don't you go and take a look. Your sister is already in the living room."
****
Draco smiled as Brian rushed from the room. By Merlin, how he loved that boy, so much like Severus, although thankfully, far less jaded. Both children had been spoiled and loved since birth, which neither of their fathers could claim. Draco was more than pleased to have become a close part of this family. In truth, he was closer than even the Weasleys, as Draco had far more time to devote to them, being childless, himself.
Grinning, he turned to pick his wand up off the table and noticed an odd reflection on the surface of the silver liquid. It wasn't surprising to see Severus' face, especially since they were Harry's memories, but Severus' expression was so utterly hurt, openly so, that it caused an ache in Draco's chest. He'd never seen Severus look so unguarded.
Determined to find out why, Draco dove into the pensieve.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Just get out, Potter." Severus was clearly in a rage, judging from the condition of his office at Hogwarts, which looked like it had been the victim of an angry hippogriff. Having been a victim of an angry hippogriff himself, he commiserated with the furniture.
"Not until you tell me what's wrong." Potter held his ground, always the brave Gryffindor. Although, Draco figured, since he had faced the Dark Lord countless times, Severus' wrath might not seem so frightening.
"If you don't know what's wrong by now," Severus growled, "then there's no reason why I should tell you."
"Oh, that's mature," Harry said. "If I've done something wrong-"
"You?" Severus snorted. "How could you, the great Harry Potter, have done anything less than sterling?"
Harry frowned then and Draco was able to see real fear in those famous green eyes of his. "Severus."
Severus turned away, but not before Draco saw the hurt again, and such sadness. Apparently, Harry saw it too because he rushed across the room, grabbing Severus' robe.
"Tell me," Harry begged. "I swear, what ever it is, I'm sorry."
Severus knocked him away; the force sent Harry reeling several steps to recover his balance. "I won't have you toying with me anymore, Potter." Severus had regained his composure and stood straight and proud.
"T-toying with you?" Harry stammered, looking confused. Draco was a bit confused as well. He racked his brain, but couldn't remember anything in their past that had made Severus that hurt or angry.
"I saw you," Severus sneered, his glare at full force. "You and that girl."
Perplexed was really not a good look for Potter. "What girl?"
"Weasley," Severus snapped. "I saw you together in Diagon Alley."
Harry looked thoughtful for a moment, and then his eyes went round.
"Yes." Severus nodded. "Now you recall the day, although I wonder how often you have surreptitiously seen the little tart behind my back."
"Ginny's not a tart, you great bat," Harry snapped back, now looking flushed and a bit annoyed. "And it was only that one time."
Severus chuckled but it was an ugly sound. "Yes, it appeared like a one off, the way you nestled together, arm in arm, looking at RINGS."
"You bastard!" Potter shouted, surprising Severus and Draco too. "You ruined it. You and your paranoid skulking about!"
His own anger deflated by Harry's reaction, Severus could only blink. Draco wondered if Potter knew he was the only one who could turn the tide on their old potions master. To cover his bewilderment, Severus sniffed. "I do not skulk."
"Then what were you doing following me around?" Harry demanded.
Severus crossed his arms and his tone became defensive. "You have been acting secretive, and I didn't want to be caught unawares by some foolish folly of yours that would leave me less than amused."
Draco's smirk mirrored Harry's at Severus' wording. Neither of them would actually tell Severus that he was acting jealous and afraid of being hurt.
"Fine," Potter said shortly, digging into his robe pocket. "I had all these other plans involving a nice candlelight dinner and your favorite music, but since you're such an impatient snoop…" He pulled out a small box and shoved it into Severus' hand. "There's your foolish folly, Severus," he said.
Severus carefully opened the box and stared at the contents for a moment. Looking back at Harry, he stated the obvious. "These are bonding bands."
"Very good, Snape," Potter said, in an impressive imitation of Severus himself. "Those are the Potter bands to be precise. I took them to a Weasley family friend who is a jeweler to have them altered for two wizards. I took Ginny, my friend, along for her help and advice, you great git!"
Severus glanced back down at the rings. "Harry," he said. "What-"
"Oh, for God's sake," Harry walked over and took the box from Severus. "And you call me an idiot," he muttered, pulling out a ring and looking up into Severus' face. "I was tired of waiting for you to ask me, so I decided to ask you." He picked up Severus' hand. "Severus Snape, will you marry me?"
Draco had to laugh at the ridiculous snippiness of the scene, knowing it to be typical. The two would never have a normal relationship. Severus was too prickly and Potter was too blunt, but if there were ever two people in the world made for each other, it was them. Draco also believed that no two people deserved happiness more.
"I would have eventually asked, Potter," Severus grumbled, abashed, as Harry slid the betrothal band onto his finger. Having seen the rings up close, Draco knew them to be of medieval design with powerful protection spells cast on them.
"Oh, really?" Harry challenged as Severus slid the matching band onto his finger.
"Yes," Severus said, as he began to undo the buttons of Harry's shirt. Harry shrugged out of his robe then began his own work on the vast fastenings of Severus' clothing. "Although I would have done it with much more dramatic flair."
Harry laughed softly, running his hands down the newly bared flesh of Severus' chest. "Maybe. But I could have hexed you and tied you to a chair for it, as well."
Severus snorted. "I would not have hexed you," he admitted. "Although tying you up is a concept that has merit."
"We may have to explore that idea," Harry said, yanking at Severus' shirt. "But first I'd rather explore that wonderful body of yours." He tugged some more. "If I can find it beneath all these layers."
As if his desire alone was a spell, Severus' clothes disappeared and Harry sighed contentedly as he stroked the smooth pale flesh and kissed along Severus' throat. Draco marveled at Harry’s wandless power. It was a talent that always amazed him.
"Now you're just trying to impress me," Severus murmured, his fingers buried in Harry's hair as the dark head moved down his body.
"Is it working?"
"Show me something I haven't seen and perhaps I-"
Harry's mouth had closed around Severus' swollen cock at that moment, sufficiently cutting off his words.
Draco shamelessly watched as the engorged flesh disappeared into Harry's mouth over and over, those red lips wrapped around the steel rod like a satin bow. Occasionally, a pink tongue would flick out, tasting the tip or licking from base to cap. It was an erotic sight, Severus completely naked, standing rigidly with his head thrown back in barely restrained passion while Harry kneeled before him, completely clothed save for the expanse of chest that Severus had managed to bare.
Severus' heavy breathing and an occasional moan were the only sounds in the room and Draco had to remind himself to breathe. Harry's hands continued to caress the skin of Severus' legs and buttocks as his mouth worked Severus' cock. Draco pressed a hand to his own burgeoning erecting which swelled in appreciation of the display.
A sudden growl drew his attention back to Severus' face and Draco was surprised at the intense need in his dark eyes as he pulled Potter to his feet and began pushing him towards the sofa. He began ripping at Harry's clothes, pulling them apart using part magic and part sheer force until Potter was as naked as he was.
"If you would, Mr. Potter," Severus said softly.
Harry smiled lazily and waved a hand at the sofa, transfiguring it into a large four-posted bed with an intricately carved head and foot-board. "Are you impressed yet?"
Instead of looking at the impressive transfigured bed, Severus' eyes moved over Harry's form, the dark gaze turning from hunger to reverence as it marked each scar and each muscled curve. "I am," Severus said.
Noticing Severus stare, Harry's gaze fell and he flushed. Severus tipped Harry's head back and leaned down, closing his mouth over Potter's waiting lips. Watching the two beautiful men, Draco was amazed at the sudden change of intensity. The lustful need was replaced with a slow simmering pace that was almost torture to watch.
Severus mapped out Harry's body with his hands then with his mouth and returned to Harry's lips for a rewarding kiss. Harry's moan seemed to be the signal and Severus gently laid Harry down on the waiting bed.
Entranced, Draco watched as the two took turns kissing and caressing, their bodies stroking together in a harmonious dance that pulled Draco's rapt attention into the rhythm. Harry's body bowed, the only indication that their bodies had joined, and the dance changed again to a more fervent tempo.
Magic started leaking out around them, becoming visible as it too became wrapped up in the union. The color started changing, first slowly and then faster, all the hues of the rainbow flashed in a pattern with increasing speed until, with a final crescendo, it illuminated the room with a coruscation of bright light. Then it dimmed and dissipated back into the sated pair.
Almost blinded by the flash, Draco blinked until his eyes refocused on the couple collapsed in the center of the great bed. Draco realized then that it had been a magical coupling and, no doubt, when Brian had been conceived. It took a great deal of power and even more love for a male wizard to become pregnant. While Draco had already known that both Severus and Harry fit the bill, and that their love was strong enough, he had never actually thought he'd be able to see the manifestation of that power and that love.
"Severus?" Harry whispered, wrapping himself around Severus' chest.
"Hm?"
"I love you."
Severus' arms tightened around Harry. "I know."
Harry snorted. "You git."
Severus rubbed his cheek on the top of Harry's messy head. "Go to sleep, Harry," he bade. "We have a wedding to start planning in the morning."
~~~~~~~~~~~
Draco backed out of the pensieve, his last thoughts on the tenderness he'd seen with so few words. Neither of his friends were great poets nor even vaguely proficient at putting their feelings into words, yet the scene he'd just witnessed humbled him.
How he envied them.
"And you talk about us being ashamed."
Draco spun around to see Rose and Brian at the door, both looking excessively smug at finding their uncle guilty of their own crimes.
"Are you all right, Uncle Draco?"
For someone who looked so much like Harry, Draco was always surprised by the little girl's perception. "Yes, I'm fine," he said.
"Do you have something in your eye?" Brian asked.
"It's nothing," he insisted, wiping a hand across his eyes. Time to redirect. A glance into the pensieve showed a ward at St. Mungo's in the murky depths, and Draco grinned. The perfect distraction. "Come on," he announced, taking the kids by the hand. "Let's see what else is in there."
~~~~~
They entered a room in the hospital ward just behind Severus.
"Back off, Snape," Potter snapped. "You're not touching me again." Harry was propped up in a bed in a semi-private room, although there was no one else currently assigned to the room. Being the only male in the maternity ward (as well as being Harry Potter) had its privileges.
He looked completely wiped out, his hair still damp and his face ravaged from long hours of labor and lack of sleep.
"I believe you uttered that exact phrase after our first child was born," Severus said in a bored tone as he sat down on the bed beside him.
"Oh, this must be when I was born," Rose said excitedly. Draco squeezed her shoulder with a nod.
Harry automatically lifted his mouth for a kiss. "Well, I mean it this time," he grumbled.
"Of course, you do."
"Don't roll your eyes at me, you-"
"Have you seen the baby?" Severus interrupted him, effectively stalling Potter's argument.
"No," Harry mumbled. "You know they always whisk the baby out of the room right after a male delivery."
"Well, you were rather a mess."
"No thanks to you," Harry continued to rant. Then he shyly looked up. "He's perfect though, right?" he asked. "You counted his toes and everything."
Severus' face was relaxed but Draco saw the smirk. "The baby is in perfect health."
Harry groaned. "But what? I heard a but." He tried to sit up, but Severus held a hand to his shoulder. "Oh, my God. What's wrong? He's okay, isn't he?"
"Harry, do you think I would be remiss in telling you if you had done a less than adequate job?"
After a moment of thought, Harry had to agree. "Not bloody likely."
"Exactly." He stared at Harry a minute and sighed. "However there is something…"
Harry blinked. "What? What's wrong with him?"
"He seems to be lacking in certain aspects of anatomy that would make him a fully functioning male."
Both Draco and Brian snorted.
"Excuse me? Do you mean he's missing his, um, his er-"
Now Severus snickered. "Potter, you are a moron."
Harry scowled at him. "Don't start on me now, Snape, just tell me-"
"It's a girl, you twit."
Blinking, Harry's jaw dropped open a bit. "A girl?" he asked. "But I thought Snapes don't have girls."
A soft lazy smile made its way across Severus' mouth and he pushed the damp hair away from Harry's eyes. "Apparently Snapes do a lot of things they normally wouldn't do when bonded to a Potter."
The silly grin that grew on Potter's face was almost endearing. "It's a girl?" He wanted it clarified.
"Without a doubt."
Harry frowned again. "But she's perfect, right?"
"Indubitably."
"You could have just said that to start with, you git," Harry said with a scowl.
"And miss your fumbling with words?"
"Big git," Harry muttered.
"I know."
"I still love you, though."
"I know."
Harry was kept from responding by the nurse who entered the room holding a bundle of pink. "Here's little Miss Rose Potter-Snape."
Harry's head jerked toward Severus. "You named her? Without asking me? You-you-"
"You were unavailable for consultation," Severus said.
"I was unconscious from 36 hours of labor and delivery and you named her? You insufferable, insensitive-"
"Harry," Severus interrupted. "Did you hear the name? Do you not like it?"
Biting his lip, Harry turned back to the nurse. "What was that again?"
The woman surrendered the bundle into Harry's waiting arms. "Rose Eileen Lily Potter-Snape to be precise."
Harry smiled down at his daughter and then looked up at Severus. "You do love me."
Severus rolled his eyes and turned a dark scowl to the nurse. "I believe Mr. Potter requires more potions," he announced. "He seems to be more idiotic than usual."
"All the girls on Daddy's side were named after flowers," Rose told Draco. "Daddy's mother was Lily, his aunt was Petunia, and his grandmother was Iris. And I'm Rose."
"That is correct," a smooth voice interrupted them and the three of them jumped. They were quickly expunged from the pensieve and landed in respective heaps on the floor at Severus' feet.
~~~~~~~~
"For once, I would like to be the first to view your father's selected memories," Severus said, crossing his arms and scowling down at the three miscreants.
Only his daughter was brave enough to speak. "But Father, they're always so nice and happy and-"
"And I'm sure you shouldn't be seeing ALL of your father's memories," Severus replied, scowling at the only adult involved. Draco had the grace to flush as Severus gave him a hand up.
"Like the sex."
"That's enough, Brian."
Rose blushed, but like a future little Gryffindor, continued, "But I know how it works."
Probably because of Draco, Severus considered. "Hm, perhaps," he said. "But you shouldn't."
Her chin inched up, looking extraordinarily like Harry. "I'm nine years old, Father. I'm not a baby."
Brian snorted, but held his tongue.
"Besides, I didn't get to see anything." Rose's pout was almost as crippling as Harry's was, too. "Brian yanked me out," the imp said.
He raised an eyebrow at his son. "I didn't see anything either," he mumbled. "Uncle Draco caught me."
Severus turned expectantly to Draco. In contrast to the children, Draco shrugged and grinned without compunction. "It was pretty hot."
"Voyeur," Severus said mildly.
"Unrepentant voyeur," Draco corrected.
Harry took that moment to enter, stopping just beside Severus. "Who's a voyeur?" he inquired, but then his gaze fell on his pensieve and everyone standing around it. His face flamed. Looking up at his husband, he said, "Tell me they didn't."
"Very well," Severus replied. "They didn't." He smirked. "Although I'm sure you're aware that they did."
Harry closed his eyes briefly, then turned to Draco. "Take them out of here, Draco. Before I recall what children's eyes go for these days in Knockturn Alley."
Draco only laughed as he ushered the mortified children out of the parlor, both mumbling apologies to their parents as they left.
"I'm going to kill them," Harry muttered.
Severus snorted, knowing he'd do no such thing. To distract him, he pushed Harry up against the wall, devouring his mouth with his lips and tongue. It seemed that Draco’s confession had stirred Severus in ways he’d not known were possible.
"We'll make some more, then," Severus said as he briefly pulled away. He began again at Harry's throat, pushing his robe off his shoulders.
"More what?" Harry asked, gasping as Severus found a particularly sensitive spot. "Children or memories?"
Severus continued to taste and bite down Harry's neck, working on Harry's buttons so he could get to the smooth expanse of chest. "Whichever you prefer," he muttered.
Harry arched as hands and lips moved over his chest, teasing his nipples and seeking out sensitive spots. His shirt fluttered to the floor. "Memories," Harry said breathlessly.
Severus lifted his head and looked down at his half-naked husband. One brow lifted. "Oh?"
"The 'more children' choice isn't really an option anymore."
Severus' jaw dropped briefly and then he snapped his mouth closed. "Harry, are you unwell?" Concern ripped through Severus like a knife. If there was something wrong with his Harry-
Harry laughed, stroking his hands through the gray-streaked hair that was hanging in Severus' face. "I'm saying I knew I shouldn't have let you touch me again."
Severus blinked, then realization hit him and he frowned. "When were you going to tell me?"
Harry sighed. "Tonight," he said, his fingers still running through Severus' hair. "I only found out yesterday. All of the memories I put in the pensieve for you were leading up to it."
Severus tightened his arms around his husband.
"Are you ready for another one?"
Severus considered him. "We will cope," he declared.
"Cope?" Harry challenged, giving Severus a shove away. "Is that what you call nine months of swelling ankles and me puking my brains out?"
Severus crossed his arms. "Oh, cease the melodramatics, Potter," he scoffed. "You enjoyed every moment of both pregnancies."
"Maybe," Harry muttered, pacing across the floor. "I just don't see why it always has to be me." He turned suddenly. "And don't you dare tell me it's because I'm the 'girl' in this marriage."
Severus tried to cover his smirk, but unfortunately Harry saw it.
"I swear, Snape," he began. Severus stopped him by pressing gentle fingers to his lips.
"Harry," Severus said. "It is always you for very basic reasons."
"I top sometimes," Harry said plaintively.
Severus chuckled. By Merlin, his Harry was priceless. "For basic reasons other than the physical," he said. He brought Harry's chin up so he could gaze into his deep green eyes. "You, Mr. Potter, are obviously the more magical of the two of us," he explained. "Having enough power to sustain yourself and the growing life within you is a contributing factor in a magical conception. Your youth, being more age appropriate for child bearing, is also a determinant."
Harry muttered something that almost sounded like, 'figures.'
"I also believe that your 'saving people' proclivity actively contributes as well."
Harry snorted. "And how's that?"
Severus lifted his brows. "Would you see me endure the trials you have withstood during your pregnancy?"
"I'd love to," he grumbled.
"Knowing that," Severus continued, ignoring Harry's comment, "my age and my less than adequate power supply might endanger both myself and the unborn child at any time during the gestation?"
Harry bit his lip. "Of course not."
"Precisely."
With a scowl, Harry's tongue darted out. "Oh, you just have to be right all the time, don't you?"
Severus laughed then and wrapped his arms around Harry's waist. "How long has it taken you to discover that?" Harry settled his head against Severus' chest, not bothering to respond, although it was rhetorical anyway. His mouth found a niche at the base of Severus' throat and his arms curled around Severus' back up to his shoulders. As always, it was a perfect fit.
"Harry?"
"Hm?" Harry murmured against his throat as his mouth began to move around Severus collar.
"Are you not pleased about the baby?" Severus asked carefully. Severus, who had never been a part of such a loving unit, was elated to make their family larger, however, Harry's emotions could, and sometimes did, become quite erratic with the accompanying hormones involved.
Harry's hands had pulled Severus' shirt out of his trousers and were now running smoothly up and down his back. "Yes, I'm very happy about the baby," he said, his lips now moving up the column of Severus' throat to his jaw. "But I was thinking…" he trailed off to suck a section of skin into his mouth.
Severus groaned, relaxing into Harry's ministrations. He had such a wonderful mouth… "What fool idea has entered your head now?" Severus asked.
"Well, you did promise me some new memories."
Severus needed no further prompting. Burying his fingers in Harry's hair, he pulled up his head and crushed his mouth down onto the eager lips. Their tongues dueled as they explored each other's mouths in a soul-searching kiss that was heated and intense from the start.
"Indeed," Severus declared as he lifted his head. Harry's eyes were burning with desire and lips swollen and red. "I do believe we should attend to that most expeditiously."
He swept Harry up into the cradle of his arms and Apparated into their bedroom. He kicked the door closed and muttered a locking spell. There would be no prying eyes for the making of this memory.
And tomorrow Severus would do something about Harry's pensieve, too.
