Summary: Written for the History Challenge. Three and a half weeks before the mountain known as Vesuvius destroyed two cities and their surrounding communities, a young slave of Pompeii saved a wealthy merchant's life. Their lives were changed forever.

Disclaimer: The characters from the Harry Potter world belong to JK Rowling and affiliates. Some characters belong to history and their characteristics are entirely fictional.

Warnings: AU, non-magic, slavery. Severus is somewhat OoC. Harry is 17, which was the age of majority at the time. Pompeii was part of the Roman Empire. The language/dialogue is mostly present day to simplify the reading and writing of this fic.
