Yeah this is a HP/DM, really short
one-shot, song-fic, kinda angsty.
He could see his past lover up at
the alter, hands clasped around his soon-to-be wife. Harry’s emerald eyes
alight with joy spending the rest of his life with his best friend’s sister,
Ginny Weasley. Draco couldn’t look away, couldn’t tear his eyes away from the
radiant black halo that caught the evening sunset light, turning it a dark
auburn. As the last of the vows were said, Draco turned and flew from the back
of the audience, he couldn’t stay and watch his Harry kiss another
person the way he had once kissed Draco.

Later, at the reception held on
the same site as the wedding ceremony, Harry looked around for his past lover.
He was disappointed to see a lack of platinum-blond hair in the fairly large
crowd. He felt a tap on his shoulder. Turning around he gazed down at the new
Mrs. Ginny Weasley-Potter with adoration. He’d half been hoping it would be
Draco, well much more than half actually. Leaning down, Harry brushed his lips
across Ginny’s own soft counterparts. A simple kiss of love and contentment,
nothing like those Harry had shared with the Malfoy heir in those dark, humid
nights during the summer after they had graduated from Hogwarts.
Blaise watched the new couple from
the buffet table, he could see how happy they both were, but there was
definitely something missing from the otherwise pristine image of the perfect
wedding. Glancing around at the other party guests, he found the missing piece
standing precariously close to the edge of the sheer cliff that overlooked the
ocean where the happy day was occurring. Blaise could see the sorrow-filled
eyes even across the distance. Pushing away from the table, he made his way
over to Draco on the cliff’s edge.
“Could be so simple, eh Draco?
One step and you’d never have to see him again.” Zabini sneered in a voice
reminiscent of adolescence. Startled, Draco spun around, nearly taking that
fatal step over the edge, at the sound of the close voice. Still swaying
slightly from the copious amounts of alcohol he had drank, Blaise quickly
grabbed the front of Draco’s shirt and pulled him away from the edge onto more
stable ground. Draco’s normally pale face was flushed from the drinks and
something else that Blaise was fairly certain was jealously and hurt. He had
known almost from the beginning when the relationship had begun and ended with
the former rivals of Hogwarts. The problem was, it had only ended for one of
the partners. Blaise could see the faint glistening of tears in Draco’s eyes
and knew it was time for the inebriated Malfoy to head home before he made a
scene he would regret later. Pulling out his wand, Blaise cast a light
sleeping charm on Draco, and caught the blond-haired man as his legs gave out
from under him. With another quick flick of his wand, Draco was floating
beside him under the power of the first charm any of them had ever learned, Wingardium
Leviosa.
Hailing his girlfriend, Hermione,
over from settling a minor argument between Ron and his girlfriend Patil,
Blaise merely nodded to the sleeping Malfoy. “He’s still having a hard time
with this, so I’m taking him home before he does anything rash.” Hermione was
not surprised; she’d seen Draco hanging out by the edge the entire reception
never without a full glass of Firewhisky in hand. Gazing sadly at the still
form, she nodded, “I’ll let Harry and Ginny know that he had an appointment or
something and had to leave sooner then expected.” With that said, the two men,
one conscious, one not, made their way beyond the Apparation Wards set up to
prevent the multitudes of unwanted guests that otherwise would have come to see
their Boy-Who-Lived wedded.

Much later that evening, Draco
opened his eyes to darkness in the room he claimed every time he spent the
night at Hermione and Blaise’s modest house. Flopping to his other side he saw
that Blaise had fallen asleep in the chair in the corner of the room. Sighing,
Draco made to sit up but had to quickly fall back down as the monster hangover
made its presence known in full force. The sound of the bed springs squeaking
softly under the rapid addition of Draco’s weight was enough to wake Blaise
from his sleep. After seeing that the pale face of his long time friend had
turned slightly gray, a bucket was quickly conjured and placed in easy reach.
Almost immediately, said bucket was snatched up and the sound of retching
filled the quiet room. After Draco had emptied his stomach of whatever alcohol
had remained and most likely most of the food he’s eaten that day, Blaise
became aware of the slight sniffling that always seemed to accompany these
events. Wrinkling his nose slightly at the smell, the vomit was vanished and
the bucket was place back on the floor. Looking back at the bed, he could see
Draco watching him with glassy, mercury eyes. Sighing, Blaise got out of the
chair he’d been sleeping in for the past few hours and walked over to the side
of the bed. Reaching out to the dark-skinned male that had been Draco’s best
friend for many years, an ivory arm emerged from beneath the soft comforter and
grasped his friend’s. Pulling gently, Blaise allowed himself to be pulled onto
the bed. Arms quickly wrapped around his torso and a head stuck itself into
the junction of his shoulder and neck. Blaise could feel the slight tremors of
Draco trying to hold back a flood of emotion. Draco felt a hand he was
clutching to, reach around him, pulling him further into an embrace. A light
touch on his lower back began rubbing in gentle circles, relaxing him.
Finally, as his barriers fell, Draco thought of a song he had heard Harry
singing along with on the radio only to recently. The lyrics were too close to
not affect him, and they did, and Draco cried quietly with the song echoing in
his ears as the gentle circles coaxed him to sleep one again.
Alone in this house again
tonight
I got the TV on, the sound turned down and a bottle of wine
There’s pictures of you and I on the walls around me
the way that it was and should
have been surrounds me
I'll never get over you walkin' away
Well I've never been the kind to ever let my feelings show
And I thought that bein' strong meant never losin' your self-control
But I'm just drunk enough to let go of my pain
To hell with my pride
Let it fall like rain, from my eyes
Tonight I wanna cry.
Would it help if I turned a sad song on
"All by Myself" would sure hit me hard, now that you're gone
Or maybe unfold some old yellow lost love letters
It's gonna hurt bad before it gets better
But I'll never get over you by hidin' this way
Cause I've never been the kind to ever let my feelings show
And I thought that bein' strong meant never losin' your self-control
But I'm just drunk enough to let go of my pain
To hell with my pride
Let it fall like rain, from my eyes
Tonight I wanna cry.
oOOo
Well I've never been the kind to ever let my feelings show
And I thought that bein' strong meant never losin' your self-control
But I'm just drunk enough to let go of my pain
To hell with this pride
Let it fall like rain, from my eyes
Tonight I wanna cry.
mmhmm mm

A couple hundred miles away, Harry Potter lay in a bed along
side his new wife, wide awake. Unwittingly, a few lyrics to a song he had
heard recently on the radio emerged in his thoughts, sounding remarkably like a
certain past blond lover. Harry hummed them to himself softly as he turned
towards the window and watched as the moon poured its silver light through the
bedroom, letting the soft whispers of the tune lull him to sleep.
Cause I've never been the kind
to ever let my feelings show
And I thought that bein' strong meant never losin' your self-control
But I'm just drunk enough to let go of my pain
To hell with my pride
Let it fall like rain, from my eyes
Tonight I wanna cry.
Ok, I was thinking of making this
a series of HP/DM songfics. If anyone has any lyrics they’d like to see in a
fic, email them to me along with any particulars to the situation if there are
any.
