Chapter One- How did you
get here, anyway?
Rebecca looked up at the night sky.
The clouds were gathering closer and in another instant with a small huff
or puff, the rain was coming. She
could smell it in the air. Standing
outside of MidNight Beats, Becca just wanted to have alittle puff to
settle her nerves before the show. This
was the most show; this would be the moneymaker that kept them going.
A quick thought of the past, a small child with blonde hair and green
eyes out in a sunny field of tall wheat. Peaceful.
Another
glance to the sky of present, the color seemed to have the darkest depths of
black with hints of gray-blue borders of clouds.
MidNight Beats is slatted in the shadier part of London; it is
tucked away in a nook that isn’t meant for the random passerby.
The front entrance is pleasant enough, but the alley was just downright
spooky. A quick look up the alley,
“Funny, really thought I heard something,” as she turned back
towards the door, he walked around the corner.
Rebecca did not hear him come up behind her.
“But back to reality”, she thought, “The plan was coming
together. Just hang tight until the
show is over. You can do
this.” another puff. Her
confidence seemed boosted, “let’s do this dammit,” she muttered to
herself as she prepared to open the backdoor of the club.
“Well, Well. And exactly
why are you outside this debauchery Miss Moore?” he demanded more than asked.
He heard her sharp intake of breath.
She froze. Rebecca would
know that voice anywhere, Professor Snape.
She turned to face him; never meeting his gaze.
Becca was looking for an immediate “out”.
Now was not the time for Snape to start his shit with her, the show
was getting ready to start, she was already late.
Snape could see her looking for her chance to escape.
“Damn, when
did everything get so fucked up?” she mused to herself. She kept telling
herself, “Don’t stress it. Just
take one moment at a time, right now to deal with Snape”.
And by the looks of him, he was not happy, but then again when one was
never happy, how could you tell any difference?
Rebecca stole another glance at him.
He was dressed in the only manor, which he ever saw fit, dark.
Snape was growing impatient. He
fixed his gaze on her head. He
guessed she was about seventeen now. She
had gotten even taller over the last few years, easily a head above many of the
other girls. He couldn’t help but
stare at the ridiculous pile of blonde hair that spilled everywhere; it came
clear to her waist. The color was
that of sand at sunset, a darker sandy; it had always caught his attention, of
coarse along with the rest of her. He
was waiting to see her eyes. He
inwardly smirked; he knew she would be defiant.
For some strange reason he was reminded of the first time he meet her.
It was a mere
three years ago. Her coming to
Hogwarts was quite the surprise. Hogwarts
did not have many foreign exchange students, especially ones that were not
really magic students. The
headmaster heard some group of gossiping gooses telling of another child, a
neighbor that could perform odd magic tricks without a wand.
The girl swore to the Headmaster that the neighbor could really do it;
she had seen it herself, but the girl further explained that the parents if the
girl were alittle “volatile” was the best way to put it.
The gossip continued to tell that the girl was from America somewhere in
the southeast part. The Headmaster had immediately wanted to meet the girl.
The mere thought of wand less magic was most appealing.
The arrangements were made; the Headmaster and his crew of two professors
went to meet and would subsequently offer the girl admission into Hogwarts
overlooking her previous lack of magical education.
Snape clearly remembered seeing the girl in her parents’ home
manipulate items with little to no effort.
Although she had admitted that the ability had only come to her in the
last few years and was becoming increasingly stronger.
Upon returning to Hogwarts, the Headmaster had addressed any concerns
that the professors were forming. In
the end, they were silenced and the girl became just another kid at
school. Becca had turned out to
“fit in” positively perky at school. For
the most part, she seemed happy consorting with the other kids.
She was little shy, but apparently had some sense of humor that kept her
from being an outsider. One
completely odd thing that Snape had noticed about her sense of humor, she always
made the joke at the expense of herself. She
would often pretend to be the “dumb blonde” in the brunt of her musings, but
always walking a fine line as to not be too disrespectful to herself, but
nonetheless joking. Snape knew how
intelligent she really was, the dangerous kind that just “came” to her.
But she was different; she never flaunted her mind, hardly ever offering
and answers in class to him, but rather kidding around with those repulsive
Weasley twins. But then things had
changed at some point in the last year or so.
Snape brought his attention back to the present.
“Look at me when I speak to
you,” he ordered. To his
satisfaction, her head popped upright. But
he was quickly disappointed; those amazing eyes were glassed over. Then an odd odor pierced his nose. When his brain registered exactly which herb brought this
particular aroma, he began to shake his head rolling his eyes as far back as
physically possible in his head. “Are
you serious?” he lashed out infuriated. But
he never moved form his spot, only his anger had been directed at her.
She felt it was time to go. Just
as Snape was moving closer to her, the door opened somewhat between them and a
rather large man with no neck man stepped outside followed by another burly
fellow. The first man immediately recognized Rebecca.
“They’re looking for you in there kiddo.
Don’t make the boss wait,” he said sternly as he began to eye Snape
up and down. Turning back to Rebecca, “Now, Get the fuck inside,” he
said flatly. Becca immediately
grinned. Professor Snape was not
sure exactly what happened next, but Becca said to him, looking him straight in
the eye, “Take it eaaasy Professor,” with that infuriating drawl and he
could swear a real twinkle in her eyes, like that satisfied cat. Snape could not help but momentarily wonder how
many men in the future would be tormented by that confounded accent. Secretly, he like everyone else at Hogwarts loved her
English; it was just so different that the way any one else spoke.
The next thing he knew, Becca was inside and he was not.
