this piece plays with the use of language that I have been recently studying.
Blah—Is regular
time
Blah—Is
the past
A young man stands
in front of two granite headstones. Each has words etched into the surface,
clear enough for anybody to read. The man stares, his vibrant green eyes
reading each word lying within the stones. His hands clench at his side, the
nails digging into the palms of his hands. Tears begin to pour from his eyes,
shining like pearls in the softness of the setting sun.
His shoulders shake as he falls
to his knees, the snow below him giving a crunch. His weight disturbs the layer
of fresh snow. A sob escapes from his lips, the pale colour of his skin
stretching to accommodate the sadness. He reaches into his black cloak and
pulls out a long knife. The smooth handle fits into his hand perfectly, the
quick glimmer of the onyx flashing in the light. His eyes fix to the blade as
it shines like a river of liquid silver.
His free hand pushes back the
sleeve of his shirt. The pale skin reveals small, raised scars. The oldest are
a brown that almost disappear into the rest of his arm. He takes the blade with
the opposite hand. His eyes wander to a ring on his hand. The ring knots, two
separate metals forming a braid. The metals are the same, yet not as well. One
is gold and the other white gold. The two contrast each other perfectly.
He pulls his eyes away from the
ring and looks at his arm. He touches the tip of the knife to the artery at the
crook of his elbow. He stiffens as he presses just enough to draw blood. In one
swift motion, he draws the knife across his arm, deep enough to cause blood to
pour out from the open wound. The knife falls from his hand, landing in the
snow. Blood rests upon the knife as it lays there. He stares as the well of
crimson blood pours from his body. It runs from the wound, forming rivers of
red along his skin. It drips to the ground, leaving little splotches of red to
stain the white snow.
“I said I would die when you
did,” the man whispers to the wind. His voice croaks, like months of no use. He
watches the blood flow before touching it with his fingers. He touches the
tombstones, leaving marks of red upon the surfaces. “Our times together were
too good to let go…” He stops speaking, his voice dying off. His mind wanders
to better times as he bleeds out.
He
laid in a large bed, two men on either side of him. All of them covered by the
thick, ocean blue comforter. One of them ran a hand over his bare back from
under the blanket. He welcomed the touch of the man, arching his back just a
bit to meet the hand. He looked at the man, his hair a beautiful sable blonde
with flecks of grey inter-dispersed to give the appearance of a vary rare, snow
flecked desert. His skin was very lightly tanned, with fading scars all over. The
man gave him a smile.
He
then turned his head to the other side, another man lay. He was a contrast to
the one man. His arm was around the younger man’s waist. His hair was black and
lay limp around his face. A little glimpse of water running down was the only
sign of his earlier shower. His skin was pale, but otherwise unblemished.
The
man in the middle lay between them silently. He closed his eyes and his breath
slowing, as if he were asleep. “We know you’re still awake, you can open your
eyes and stop the pathetic pretending,” the pale man said. His tone was biting,
yet there was a good natured humour seeping through.
The
man opened his eyes and sat up a very slight bit, his elbows being used to prop
him up. “I was relaxing. I hoped you wouldn’t call me on faking. I’m
comfortable like that.” The sable haired one smiled and began rubbing his back
again. The man made a noise in his throat. It was a deep noise, yet held every
bit of pleasure he felt in it.
The
black-haired man smiled ever so slightly, but not enough to show his teeth. He
moved his arm and let his hand grope the younger man’s ass. The younger one
jumped, eeping in surprise. He had been relaxing to the hand that was roaming
over his back. The groping hand began to massage his buttocks. He let out a
soft moan, burying his face in his pillow.
The
massage continued, heading to his bare thighs. The man shivered in response.
“Severus, you’re cruel. You’re turning me on,” he said, muffled by the pillow. Severus
smiled and grabbed the boy’s side, flipping him onto his back. He leaned over
and kissed him on the lips rather gently. He kissed back, his hand reaching up
and touching the silky, black hair.
The
other man pulled the one in the middle away and gave him his own kiss. It was
returned with a ferocity that could not have been met by anybody other than
lovers. The sable haired man opened his mouth, causing the younger to send his
tongue into the opening. Their tongues battled for dominance over the other,
the older man winning. Yet his victory was rather short lived. Severus pulled
him away from the other man, his arm wrapping around his shoulders as this
happened. “Careful Remus, we can’t tire Harry out. You know how delicate he
is.” Harry looked up and scowled, his green eyes narrowing at the older man. Severus
smirked down at him, fire lit behind his obsidian eyes.
Harry
scowled and pulled out of Severus’ arm. “You two are mean.” He crossed his arms
and lay in between them; the look on his face was of a petulant child. He did
not move outside of closing his eyes, staring into the black void on the inside
of his lids. His mind began to wander as he through back to the previous day, a
day that made him as happy as he was in that moment.
Harry
stood in front of a lake, two rings on his left hand. One was of yellow gold
and the other of white gold. The wind blew a slight bit, messing up his raven
coloured hair even more than it already was. A person came up beside him,
setting a hand on his shoulder. Harry turned his head to face the person, a
smile forming on his face at the sight of Remus. “Come on Harry, it’s time for
the ceremony.”
Harry
nodded. “I’m ready.” He followed Remus towards a tree. It was a willow tree;
all its leaves were a yellow green and falling into a perfect curtain. The
branches hid the trunk of the tree, small glimpses in the right spots being the
only way to see it. The two walked through the branches to see Severus already
there, waiting for them in the cool shade. The duo reached him. “Alright, let’s
do this,” Harry said. His lips were turned in a slight smile. He took the hands
of both men with his. They all wore the same two rings. Harry held onto their
left hands with his hands and closed his eyes. He slowly began to whisper. “Might
Earth, I pledge my life to these men. Forever shall I be with them, my heart
and soul theirs to keep.” He stopped and opened his eyes. He looked at the
other two, waiting for them to continue. He still had that slight smile upon
his face. He let out a soft sigh as the other two men returned that smile.
The
two men began to speak at the same time. “Mighty Earth, we pledge our lives to
this man and each other. Forever shall we be together. Our hearts and souls
theirs to keep.” A light grew around the three, green, gold and black. Blending
together, the lights formed into one. The young man almost fell over, both
Severus and Remus catching him. He stared up at the two, his eyes mixing the
gold and black of the other two. The colours faded a moment later. He smiled
lightly. Two stood him up. They all embrace.
His tears fall, glistening from
the light of the sunset. He stares at the blood flowing from his arm. It isn’t
moving fast enough. He tugs at the cut, attempting to rip it open more. The
skin opens just a bit, pulling away from the muscles. He let his tears escape.
He no longer fights the flow. He doesn’t move, the blood flows from his arms
freely. His mind wanders some more.
“No,
you two can’t go! You need to stay here. You’re safe here,” Harry pleaded with
the two men. Remus pulled him into his arms and held him. His fingers were
delicately running through Harry’s hair. Harry leaned against him, taking in
the scent of pine and chocolate. He internally smiled at the thought of Remus
once again dipping into his hidden stash of chocolate. Sobs began to escape
from his lips moments later; he knew that Remus was leaving. Tears fell from
his eyes. They escaped in calming, ocean waves, slowly leading to his muscles
relaxing. Remus rocked Harry as he cried his heart out.
Remus
kissed the top of Harry’s head. “We’ll be alright Harry. We’ll come back, and
we’ll spend hours making it up to you in the best way possible.” Harry looked
up at him. His eyes slightly blue from the tears he had already shed. The
younger man looked at Severus, his eyes searching for an answer.
“We’ll
come back Harry. I promise, and we know that I’ve never broken a promise, especially
to the two of you.” Severus watched as Harry sniffed. He nodded and pulled away
from Remus. Severus enveloped Harry in his leanly muscled arms. Harry leaned
against him as well. Like with Remus, he breathed in the scent of oranges with
an underlying scent of mint. His arms hung limply at his side, but he didn’t
care, he just continued to breathe in the wonderful scent of Severus. Severus
did not let him go yet, and Harry did not pull away. He only continued to take
in Severus.
“I
still don’t’ want you two to go,” he finally said, his voice a little weak and
silent. His arms came up, allowing his hands to grip the deep green shirt that
Severus wore tightly. He bit his bottom lip. Severus held him, repeating the
rocking gestures that Remus had done earlier. Severus’ eyes looked over at
Remus. The other nodded. He let a soft sigh escape his lips. Harry had calmed
down and fallen asleep in this time.
He
woke up, someone brushing his hair back from his face. He opened his eyes,
looking at the person. Remus sat above him. He looked around seeing no one else
in the room. “Where’s Severus?” Remus’ eyes suddenly changed. Before Harry
could read the expression hidden within the amber depths, the eyes looked down,
hiding the truth from him. Harry’s heart began to beat against his chest; he
could hear the THUMP THUMP in his years. He pushed Remus’ hand away and climbed
out of bed. He automatically went to the bathroom, nobody was in there. The
room was silent, only Harry occupied the space that was filled with black and
white marble.
He
turned towards the door and saw Remus standing in the doorway. His eyes stared
at Harry, wide and fearful. Tears prickled at the edge of the amber eyes. They
looked at each other, neither speaking a single word. Harry’s mouth opened, the
only sound that escaped was a slight whine. Remus stepped towards Harry right
as the boy’s legs collapsed from beneath him. Remus caught him in his arms and
carefully lowered Harry to the ground.
Harry
sobbed against Remus’ chest, no real sound escaping his open lips. Remus’ arms
held him as they sat on the black tiled floor. He held his crying husband. “Why?
He…Promised…That…That…You…Would…Both…Come…Home…” Harry said in between his
sobs. Remus reached up and began to run his fingers through the raven locks.
Harry shook. Hysterical sobs were now becoming audible. Harry couldn’t stop
crying.
“He
died, saving me. He said I would be able to help you more than he could. He
knew he wouldn’t come back the minute he entered,” Remus said. Harry listened,
still sobbing a bit. Remus rocked him, Harry’s shaking was stopping. He didn’t
appear to respond to Remus’ words at all, though they did settle within his
mind. He seemed to be completely lost, his only source of comfort holding him.
He sobbed occasionally while Remus still held onto him.
He feels weaker, his energy
leaving him behind. He stares at his escaping blood, completely transfixing his
attention upon it. Harry’s eyes watch as the blood trickles from his wound. The
air is still too cold for his blood to seep from the gash quickly enough. He
sits on the snow between the two graves.
He does not move, his eyes only
watching the flow of his own blood. The snow continues to become a deeper shade
of red from the drips of blood. Harry’s mind continues to wander on, He does
not see what is happening in front of him as he escapes to better times.
Life
had become somewhat ritualistic. Remus took care of all their food. Harry
helped out, doing what he could. Yet Remus was getting ill. Harry sat next to
him on the bed, running his fingers over the contours of Remus’ face. No doctor
or healer could figure out what wrong, other than him dying. Harry took Remus’
hand and held it. Remus squeezed it a bit, his weak fingers trying hard to hold
it.
Harry
clapped both of his hands around Remus’. He held back the tears that prickled
at the edges of his green eyes. Remus gave him a weak smile, his breaths deep. He
didn’t move. All he could do was lie in bed. Harry convulsively swallowed.
Remus’
breathing got slower. His eyes were closed. Harry held onto his hand tightly.
He tired to will Remus to continue living. He let a crystalline tear drip from
one of his eyes. Remus took a deep, raspy breath. “Harry, promise me that
you’ll take care of yourself.”
“Remus,
I can’t. I need you. I already lost Severus. I can’t lose you as well.” Harry’s
eyes shone with tears, the slow rivers running down his cheeks. “I need you.”
He barely kept himself from letting a sob escape. He took one of his hands off
of Remus’ and covered his lips to keep from the escaping whines. Now only one
hand held onto Remus’.
Remus
let out a breath. “I’m sorry Harry. I will stay as long as possible.” His
breathing hitched ever so slightly. Harry squeezed his hand again. Harry had a
death grip on Remus’ hand. The other man’s hand was going a bit lax as his
breathing became ever slower. He still kept his eyes closed, but his skin
slowly paled more.
Remus
came one last breath in, his hand going completely lax all of a sudden. Harry
stared; he lurched forward a moment later. He buried his face in the unmoving
chest and sobbed. Harry didn’t move as the tears wracked his body. He shook,
his back arching slightly to meet with nothing. No comforting hand to rest on
his back and reassure him that everything would be okay. No arms enveloped him
in a warm embrace. There was no one.
He watches the tombstones begin
to face into the approaching night. Stars glimmer from above as his eyes go
glassy. He slumps sideways, his whole body going slack. His lovely green eyes
fog over as the descent of death gets closer. He lays there, his lips a tinge
of blue. His skin as pale as a sheet of paper. A small smile plays across his
lips. His lips move, but no sound escapes. Yet, what he mouths is as clear as
day ‘I’ll be there soon’. He then lets out a breath and stills. Blood lazily
pours from the cut, but soon begins to freeze. His body lies there, sprawling
across the two graves. The moon and stars sent light onto the sight. Bathing
within the light, the body remains still, unmoving.
A/N: Done, this
took me a while to write and a couple days to type up, but I hope everyone
likes it.
