Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, and I do not make any money from these fictions. |
Anyways, this was born out of another that I haven’t released yet, when my loveable Beta Wistful Dreamer wouldn’t let me have two Harry’s from different dimensions be together, as I had first planned.
That story is better for it. This one revolves around it! Eheheheheheheh
Here we are now, the prologue for Undistinguishable
For the longest time, identical twins Harrison Ceilidh and Harlan James where all the other had.
Always, when one was hurt, abused, ridiculed, the other was his rock, his support. They protected, and defended each other.
Like when they were four, and Dudley got it into his head that they were his to play with, however he wished. They soon learned to tire Dudley out, making him go after one, and then the other to keep the damages at a minimum.
And then at five, when Vernon found his son standing over an unconscious twin, the other panting heavily, weakly gripping the hand at his neck, and Vernon smiled proudly. Both knew then to not fight back. Vernon would take offence. And having Dudley after them was bad enough.
That first day of Kindergarten, standing before the Elementary school doors, hand locked and heads bowed as Dudley told all his friends to Stay away from the freaks. They don’t even have names.
First grade, when Harlan got the top grades of the year and was beaten severely that night for cheating.
When in Second, Harrison got the leading position in the school play because of his grace, over Dudley, and almost didn’t make it to the live performance.
Third grade Dudley stopped trying to be subtle and beat them both so badly even the teachers couldn’t ignore it and sent them to the hospital, suspending Dudley for three months, Vernon still claimed it had to be self defense on Dudley’s part
Fourth grade when Aunty Petunia moved out, taking them both with her, only to leave them at an orphanage when she ran out of money. She promised to come back for them, but they didn’t believe her.
And despite what she had told them, the man with the white beard had found them there, and sent them back to the Dursley household, not believing that Petunia Evans no longer lived there.
They never got to go to Fifth grade, Vernon making them his slaves.
~(*)~
Lillian Potter nee Evans screamed as the contractions hit her fiercely, her husband by her side pale faced and ashen, his hand firmly caged by her own. To his credit he had yet to make a sound of pain, calmly whispering words of encouragement.
Three hours before July 30th had ended her labor pains had begun, and now, it was 31st, not even a minute before midnight, when the first childish wail cut though the air.
“Would you look at that.” The nurse whispered, “Born right at eleven fifty-nine.” Stunned, the newly made Father held his fist born son, Lillian panting at his side.
“James Jr.” The man whispered. Lillian snorted
“His name is Harrison. Harrison Ceilidh, like my father wished.” James winced at the blatant reminder, nodding quickly, and then froze as Harry opened his eyes.
“Lils…he has your eyes.” She smiled at him, face flushing as another contraction hit her.
Five minutes after the first, a second scream was heard, and baby Harlan James was named, the second son. Harry had tie of red wrapped around his wrist, as the heir, Harlan gold to distinguish the two identical boys, born after over a day of labor.
If only Voldemort knew what they were for.
Harrison had the curse scar, was hit with the Adava Kedvra, and Dumbledore let the world know it. With both parents dead, he needed to move the twins somewhere safe, and he knew just the place.
Side by side in the neat wicker basket is where their aunt Petunia Dursley would find them the following morning, but the letter left by their side missed one simple, yet undeniable truth.
Neither boy had a scar.
When the Twins Weasley first met the infamous Potter Twins, they were shocked at what they understood the instant they crossed.
The two boys, both a tidy five feet, with shoulder length unruly black hair, and near glowing green eyes…were like them.
Despite the obvious, Fred and George could tell that Harrison and Harlan had…it.
The Twin Bond.
They shared everything: thoughts, wants, loves, hates, dislikes, anything and everything passed between the two. The bond the Potter Twins had, just like them, was a soul they both shared.
They completed each other in a way no lover or friend could ever imagine.
Something so rare, it had no name, and no one, save one whom had it, could identify it.
And when the boys only two years younger saw them the same instant they thought this, they knew it too. One blinked, turning slightly to his brother while keeping an eye on them, studying, assessing. Both turned to them after a moment and nodded, the first, mentally dubbed One, waving a hand before his chest, palm outward. Two tugged on One’s hand, leading him to the train.
“This year is going to be fun, isn’t it, Brother?” The two red heads clasped the their hands, lacing their fingers together as the other spoke, a devilish grin overtaking his face
“Oh yes, it is.”
Harrison and Harlan didn’t know who was who at first.
Uncle would yell, rant and rave about them, How can a real man not know who he is?? Those blasted parents of yours just had to have identical twins and forget to tell us just who is who!!
When they were Three, in a rare show of tolerance, Aunty Petunia told them that Harrison was the elder brother, and was supposed to have a scar on his forehead, that was how they (Aunty and Uncle) were to tell the two apart.
Neither spoke up to say that, they, the two brothers, could see the scar on Harrison’s face. But they answered to a spoken name now.
Now, eight years later, the brothers sat in their compartment, hands interlocked and foreheads touching, Harlan’s eyes closed while Harry watched his little brother panting slightly, seeing the fine tremors on his skin as the voices of others filtered through the thin walls.
Things are changing now. Harrison nodded slowly, using his left thumb to slowly stroke Harlan’s wrist.
People are going to be watching us all the time, and there is nothing we can do about it. Harlan visibly shook as he thought this, emerald eyes dilated as they opened
“We can learn.” Harrison started, letting a sliver of his magic uncoil from his core, appearing on his left hand in a play of light and heat. Harlan opened his eyes to watch the little snake dance, Harrison smiling at him “Give us a week in the library, and then no one can do anything to us that we don’t want.” The door opened and both turned, Harlan wrapping his arms around Harrison as they instinctively came closer, to see the red haired twins enter the room, closing the door behind them.
“Hello, Potter Twins.” Fred started, placing a hand above his heart “We are Fred-”
“-and George Weasley, nice to met you.” The other finished, slightly behind his elder brother, hands behind his back as he smiled
“We’re twelve, in our Third Year here now-”
“-and came here to warn you.” Harrison raised an eyebrow.
Warn us? Before we even walk the threshold of the school? Harlan shushed him.
“The Headmaster told Mother to make sure that as many of us Weasley’s-”
“-and believe us, there are a lot of us at Hoggie’s right now-”
“-get close to you. Befriend you both, or at least Harrison, if possible.” Harlan frowned as Harrison sneered, letting his younger brother bury his face into his shirt.
This idea of getting away from Uncle is starting to sound worse and worse. Harrison minutely shook his head, eyes on Fred
Then we’ll just have to weather the tides. Harlan couldn’t help but shake his head.
“The white haired elderly man that gave us out letters?” Harrison asked dully, monotone voice making the red heads blink. George turned to look at Fred, before answering slowly
“Probably, though the only reason he came to you guys in person-”
“-was so that you’d look up to him.” Fred frowned as he said it, pushing George into the seats opposite to Harrison and Harlan, sitting in his brother’s lap “His words.” He explained spreading his arms wide.
“Why are you helping us? Why not go with the man your parents obey?” Harlan asked quietly, eyes locked on Fred. Despite there similarities, just like between Harrison and himself Harlan could tell the difference between Fred and George. George turned to the meeker Potter Twin, raising an eyebrow “Most feel comfortable with what they know.” Harlan explained “You both are purposely stepping outside your comfort zones, and I want to know why.”
“We don’t trust him. The Headmaster.” George told them slowly “We…don’t know why yet, but we don’t.”
“We’ve been able to hide it, being young and all.” Fred started with the ghost of a grin “But he’s been around our family since before we where born.”
Harrison simply watched them, hand raised to mess with something under his collar. George rolled his eyes, waving the topic away.
“Mum was kinda mad that she didn’t get to meet you two today.” Harlan shrugged, rolling his eyes.
Like we care. He sent through the bond, Harrison smirking as he felt thick anger from his twin. The woman only wants to meet us ‘cause she was told to!
“The barrier is a mixture of magical signatures, the different colors are blinding.” Harrison laughed as Fred and George’s mouth dropped, Harlan continuing on blithely “It wasn’t hard to figure out what three-quarters meant when I saw that. Idiot wizards.” The red heads turned to each other before bursting into laughter
“You both are awesome, did you know that?” George told them. Both the raven haired boys rolled their eyes. Harrison smirking as he did so
George watched them for a moment, before pointing to Harlan
“I’m not sure what house you’ll go to but,” He switched to Harrison “But you will be in Slytherin, and I don’t see your brother doing the same.” Harry drew Harlan closer, fighting to not hiss.
“What will do if you are split up?” Fred asked curiously. Harlan pressed a finger to Harrison’s lips to stop his words as he sat up, looping his arms around Harrison’s neck
“No matter where Harrison goes, I will follow, and damn anyone who thinks otherwise.” George stared at Harlan utterly stunned while Fred laughed
“Okay then, Gryffindor!”
Dumbledore watched the two boys he was to mentor interact with each other with slightly worry.
They were too much alike.
Hands clasped, one looking to the ceiling with slight awe, the other to the students with disdain, they both had their hair the same way, clothing neat and impeccable, though a little threadbare…why did they wear second hand clothing?
“Severus.” Said man turned, a bored look on his face “Did you not Harry access to the extra vault like I told you?” The man rolled his eyes
“Yes, Headmaster.” He started “And like I said the boy would, Harrison shared every Knut with his twin. What were you expecting, the younger Potter to find a way to block the other from their vault?” Dumbledore only hummed slightly, making Severus take a better look at the two. He blinked once, slowly in disbelief
“…They do have their Key, right, Headmaster?” Albus did not say a word, Severus’ eyes widening as the silence set in. “You mean to tell me the only living Heirs to the Potter Fortune and Estates don’t have access to what they own by Gringott’s law?” Both didn’t see it, but sharp eyed Harlan turned to them for a second before looking downward, having heard every word. “Did you think the elder would get all that he could for himself and leave the other with nothing?”
“I thought at least he’d have better clothing…then I could tell them apart.”
“You have severely misunderstood the bonds between twins, Headmaster. Has the years here with the Weasley Twins not shown you the bond they must share?”
“I told the Dursleys to care for Harlan better than Harry.” At that Severus rolled his eyes, noting one twin whom kept his eyes to the ceiling, body tense
“Headmaster…if you, a reader of Auras, can not tell the two boys apart, how can three muggles and a squib?” Albus sighed, shaking his head
“It matters not, and you’d best not tell a soul what we have spoke of.” Severus turned away, sneering, his eyes locking onto the twin for a split second
“Of course not.” I don’t need to.
Are you sure about this, Harlan? The younger twin puffed his cheeks, eyes still on the ceiling, Harrison rolling his eyes at the gesture. Harlan only did it to annoy his brother, mostly when he’d taken an argument too far
I. Don’t. Care. Where. I. Am. Sorted! Where you go, I go. Harrison sighed
What if I wanted to follow you? Harlan snorted at that, mentally poking Harrison in the lower back
I’d rather follow you. He started frankly Your kind of people are much more interesting. Harrison chuckled at that, unable to deny it
“Potter, Harlan!” Harlan winced, then broke away from the thinning crowd, ignoring the many eyes of those around him
“If that’s Harlan, then that means the other one is the Boy-Who-Lived!”
“I hope they get different houses, then we can tell them apart.”
“How is it possible for two people to look exactly the same? Don’t they hate that? I would.”
“Hey, wait a second, where’s his scar?”
“My my, what a brilliant mind we have here.” Harlan jumped. This voice, while still in his mind, was louder, like lips at his ear “Buried under your lack of confidence I can see a wellspring of courage, loyalty and love, though that last is only directed toward Harrison I see.” Harlan blushed, hunching forward to cover his face with hands “You will one day become brilliant, and you are perfect to be by your brother’s side when the battles come, never doubt that. But now, I wonder if you will ever actually see the walls of GRYFFINDOR!” George smirked as Harlan stood, slowly walking over to where the cheers erupted.
Harlan strolled away from the three legged stool, but slowed as he started to the table. Fred smirked at him, prompting him to roll his eyes
“Potter, Harrison!” Harrison sat on the stool, frowning softly as the large hat rested on his head
“For all that you two look identical, I can now see you both are very different, Potter Heir.” Harrison shook his head.
We may be different when someone looks into our mind, but that is it. We are twins, after all. The Hat chuckled.
“Oh yes, you will be great. And with Harlan by your side no matter what you choice, you will excel. There is no need to tell you your thoughts, you see clearly. So very few of the youth today do so, keep such a talent, Potter Heir. Better be, SLYTHERIN!”
Harrison stood, flicking a spark of dust from his robes to complete silence. Faces upon faces stared at him and he rolled his eyes with a scoff. Without a care he turned to Harlan, seeing his twin quickly walking over to him. Without losing stride Harlan clasped his outstretched hand, both of them walking over to the Slytherin tables.
“Potter, where do you think you’re going?” Both turned to look down the table, Harrison with a raised eyebrow as Malfoy stood to stop them, looking only upon at the twin with the snake upon his chest “He’s a Gryffindor. He goes over there.” Like they couldn’t see what over there meant, Malfoy pointed.
Harrison rolled his eyes and this is the pureblood elite? If this is the top I beg to see the bottom. Harlan snorted. The Slytherin table was silent as they watched Harrison sigh, hand raised to hold at his temples with his middle finger and thumb, his forefinger tapping at his forehead. He had shifted until he stood on one leg, his free hand resting on his hip, eyes upward, the picture of exasperated indifference
“What are you trying to say, Malfoy?” Harlan remained quiet, watching the Gryffindor table as the older students tried to beckon him over to them
Idiots. They must think you rule my life, now that they know our houses. Harrison shifting the hand at his forehead to comb at his hair with his fingers, throwing the heavy locks back over his shoulder
“I’m saying that like should sit with like.” Malfoy started, smirking as he finally turned to Harlan “Slytherin with Slytherin. Gryffindork with Gryffindork.” Harrison flashed a dark smile
“Then why don’t you go sit with your brainless lackeys and stop mucking about the air of the people with a higher IQ.” Malfoy’s mouth dropped as Harrison waved a hand, Harlan laughing quietly behind him “Go on.” Harrison told him, tone vaguely that of a man to a dog “Shoo.” Malfoy’s mouth worked, but no sound left it as the first years of Slytherin and some from the Ravenclaw table laughed
“This isn’t over Potter!” Harlan watched as Harrison laughed, the sound bitterly cold.
“Of course not.” Harrison sneered, eyes glittering. Malfoy started to smirk, and then froze as Harrison continued, “It can’t be over when nothing has begun.”
“Potter!” Both turned, Harlan fully while Harrison tilted his head. They where in the corridor before the Slytherin entrance, having just left the commons room
“Professor.” Harlan spoke this time, Harrison simply staring at his new Head of House slightly; body still turned away “Whom do you mean?” Severus sneered
“Luckily enough both of you. Slytherin Potter, what is the meaning of bringing your little pet along with you to the Slytherin commons?” Harrison rolled his eyes
“I was showing him the door so he could get to me if needed, Professor. This is the first time we’ve ever separated for so long, and he sometimes can hear...voices. Has been able to since we where children, though it is only a problem in crowds.” Harrison rolled his eyes here “Hogwarts is one humongous crowd. I can stop it, but skin to skin contact is required.” The Potions’ Master looked the two over, eyes narrowing.
“Harlan Potter, look me in the eyes.” The younger twin blinked, his gaze shifting to the wall beside them, before he slowly looked up. The instant he did so Severus pulled his wand free, slipping inside his mind.
There he could see it, a dome shaped shield around the younger twin’s mind, holes opened with arrow like shafts of magic pointed outwards.
“Harrison,” Severus started slowly, “Release your shield. I need to see what his mind does when he can hear others.” Harrison hissed slowly, pulling away to lean against the wall nearest his back, his hands going for his forehead. Harlan whimpered slightly, the voices slowly regaining volume until they where a torrent against his ears.
Severus could see the shield peel away from the core, a bright ball of different hues
Gold, Blue, Brown, Pink, Purple, Violet, White, Orange
Loyalty, Calm, Stability, Acceptance, Judgment, Imagination, Purity, Vitality
The colors of his core where vibrant and glowing with power, but he was looking for…one…thing…there.
A…leak, in the back of the mind, where foreign colors flowed, different shades and hues to the core that pulsed before him, slowly growing in size as he watched.
Different magic.
“A natural Legilimens.” The man breathed, tone awed. Harrison blinked, watching his brother sway slightly, mouth moving without a sound
“Legilimens?” He repeated, eyes darting back and forth between the two. Both stood senselessly, Severus looking no different save the glaze in his eyes and the stillness of his movements
“Legilimency.” Severus started slowly, his gaze blank as he studied Harlan’s mind “The Ability to search another person’s memories and thoughts.”
“The murmurs. They actually are other people’s voices-thoughts?” Harrison confirmed, one hand going for his chin, the other holding it in place as he analyzed all that was spoken .
“Don’t act like you didn’t know this.” Severus snapped. Harrison smirked. Before Harlan could brace himself, Severus was free of his mind, gaze turned to Harrison whom looked at him calmly.
“And as I thought…” Their eyes locked, the shield before him stale grey, pulsing with silver sparks of magic “One a Legilimens, the other an Occlumens. What a pair.” Harrison shook his head
“And that’s why I could help him.” He started slowly, watching Harlan slowly come back to the real world “I could…cover him with my…shield, you called it?” Severus nodded curtly.
“You are a Legilimens…and an Occlumens.” Severus’ face was neutral as he nodded. “It’s…not a widely taught ability…is it?” Harrison asked slowly
“No.” the boy nodded.
“I understand then.” Severus looked the boy over, leaning on the wall as he was, eyes closed as he assimilated what he had learned
“I have a way to help this one.” He pushed slightly on Harlan’s arm with a roll of his eyes, watching the boy teeter slightly as if drunk. Harrison looked up, eyes sharp “Seeing as you aren’t worrying about him this isn’t the first time it’s happened, and you can snap him out of it. Do so. I will return shortly.” Harrison watched him leave, shaking his head slightly
Is this man a genius? If not then I have a lot to look forward to, these seven years. Rolling darkened emerald eyes, Harrison turned to Harlan, pulling him close, lips to his ear
“Har~lan~” The boy blinked, and then his eyes slipped shut as he was pulled into a kiss. Body limp his mouth automatically opened to Harrison as the elder brother lapped at his tongue, coaxing the other awake.
It didn’t take long, one second he was in the control happily sucking on his delectable tongue; the next Harlan had a grip on his hair, tilting his head back to switch positions, the kiss turning aggressive.
Harlan pulled away with a deep gasp, watching as Harrison blinked at him, eyes glazed
“That’s one way to get my attention.” Harlan smiled, buried his face at Harrison’s neck, backing them until Harrison’s back was once again to the wall. “Don’t start something where we can’t finish it.” Harrison drew in a shuddering breath, eyes clearing as Harlan started to nip and lick at his neck
What if I just wanted a kiss? Harlan smirked against Harrison’s neck, biting down hard enough to draw a gasp from his twin
You never “just want a kiss” you always finish what you start, that’s your stubborn forwardness. Foot steps echoed around them and Harlan calmly let Harrison go, eyes glowing with mirth. And just like that, with his attentions no longer occupied, voiced came to him like a flood, indistinct murmurs, different tones, voices, feelings that hit him hard enough for him to visibly wince.
You know where to go once he gets here? Harrison’s voice was a murmur in the sea of Harlan’s thoughts, the swirl of other voices drowning out what should have been the only other sound in his thoughts.
“I don’t care if that man has a solution.” Harlan snapped. Blinking rapidly he shook his head “I do care, and if it works that will be excellent, but I don’t want to be so far from you. The last time we where made to sleep in separate rooms-”
Quiet. The quick command made Harlan’s mouth snap shut and turn as Severus Snape came into view.
“Harlan?” Said twin stepped away from the other, frowning slightly. Snape held out a silver and jade covered medallion, hung about a platinum chain “This is an Occlumency Medallion, used for children like yourself whom are too young to learn the abilities through the natural process. Your mind isn’t developed enough magically to handle the training. This will cut off your Legilimency completely, so the voices will stop, and any wandering you might find yourself doing.” He held the medallion by it’s chain, the jade shard in the middle glowing. Harlan looked him in the eye, reading the truth in Severus’ gaze as he took it, slipping it on.
Cool silence echoed around him, startling him so bad he slipped to the ground with a plop on his ass, eyes wide. Harrison slipped down to one knee, gazing into Harlan’s eyes
“I can see the shield.” Severus blinked down at the boys, shaking his head
“As long as he wears it, he will be shielded, it is water proof, shielded against magical detection and only those whom know you where it can see it. Anti theft and summoning charms are on it and the chain. When you are fifteen your magic will be stabilized and I can apprentice you, to begin the lessons, if you are worthy of it. Now, both of you to your separate dormitories. Curfew is soon.” With that, Severus strolled away, missing Harlan jump at Harrison to draw him into a deep kiss.
PWP, don’t you just love it?
Or maybe this is Porn with little to no plot. Hmm.
