Hermione raced all the way to the Hospital Wing, her worn out shoes kicking up fresh rubble and dirt then fallen from the cracks in the ceiling. She ran all the way from the Gryffindor Tower, in the middle of a somber party. At least was a gathering of people. Hermione mind drifted over to the moments before she heard the urgent call.
The fire was cracking in the large fireplace as a gathering of Order Members, the last scraps and the small group of original Dumbledore’s Army, sat around the common room. Hermione sat close to Ron as many of the other seats were filled and she was squished between Hermione and Neville. The brunette held Ron’s hand, her short and rather chubby fingers intertwining with long fingers, his sharp knuckles pressing into her skin.
The Light side won the battle, Harry Potter miraculously defeating Volde-Who-Not-Be-Named. Hermione wasn’t positive that the taboo on the Dark Lord was lifted. There were still Death Eaters that had escape so they could respond to the name being utter. Right now, people needed to sit down and reflect.
There had been so many deaths, so many lives were lost. Hermione was not someone who could truly hate someone, unless their actions permitted that dark emotion, but she still felt her heart go out to the families of the people who died. How much they grieve for the lost.
Hermione looked at Ron; in the light of the fireplace seem to zap away the tiny freckles on his cheeks. His once sea blue eyes looked heavy and murky as he stared on ahead. She tighten her grasp on his hand, only getting a whisper of a squeeze back.
The young Gryffindor would take it as is. Hermione knew that Ron was aching inside, knowing that one of his brothers was dead. Hermione never had siblings but she when she had to erase her parents memories to protect them, Hermione felt like her heart shriveled up inside. It took seeing Harry and Ron to feel better. She knew that she could see her parents again, but Ron…with Fred dead; he could never see his brother infectious smile.
Over the crackle of the fireplace, Hermione’s whisper felt like a boom in the common room. “I’m going to get us some Butterbeer.”
“Yeah…” Ron’s voice mimic the crackle of the fire.
Hermione removed herself from his side and moved through the familiar faces over to the back wall. The small ice box was filled with untouched Butterbeers that the house-elves provided. Along the offerings were plates of dark chocolate and comfort food. Hermione picked up a square of chocolate, the dark brown candy had the imprint of a tiny Hogsmeade village.
A small smile lifted in the corner of her cheeks, last time she saw this was in the breast pocket of the former professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts. Hermione knew if Professor Lupin was here, he would be breaking off large chunk for everyone like they were needed medication. The smile disappeared from her lips when she remember that he was not here anymore. Not a lot of people were.
Hermione return with two bottles of Butterbeer and a napkin full of chocolate, wrapped up and placed in her pocket for later. Ron took the bottle and stared at it like it was a Quidditch magazine, fascinated by the dripping water. It took a lot of convincing to get Neville to inch over so Hermione could sit back down.
“Maybe we should go find Harry,” Hermione suggested, thinking of the third part of their trio. Once Voldemort was confirmed dead, Harry didn’t immediately join the celebration and asked for time alone. Hermione knew he needed it but, she still wanted to see Harry and make sure her dear friend was alright.
“Later, give him time alone.” Ron hoarsely whispered back. He was holding back tears, trying to act the strong one.
Hermione was about to open her mouth to talk when a bright light nearly blinded everyone. Blinking back and regaining her sight, Hermione saw Harry’s beautiful glowing stag Patronus. Everyone turned away their small worlds to see the white and airy beast in the middle of the room.
Hermione clench Ron’s arm as she feared the worst. But when Harry’s voice came out, it was out of panic or fear, but a shock and a ting of happiness. “Hermione, Ron, you must come to the Hospital Wing quick! You got to see this!
Hermione and Ron finally made eye contact as they silently wonder if they should go. Neville’s voice gathered up the many mute voices of their friends. “Go, it must be important.”
The brunette and redhead got up, a necessary need to be with their friend drove them into action. They ran through the portrait and down flights of stairs toward the Hospital Wing. Ron ran beside her, drawing back a little so his long legs wouldn’t carry him further from Hermione.
They made it to the entrance of the Hospital Wing, the sound of groans and moans of pain and restlessness. Chocolate eyes scan the large room, hoping to catch the black hair Gryffindor. A hand launch at of nowhere and grabbed onto her hand. Hermione grabbed her wand from her holster and aimed it directly into Harry’s face.
“Hermione! It’s me!” Harry urged to her.
Hermione sighed and put away her wand. Everyone was jumpy right now; even Ron had his hand on his wand. “What is it, Harry.”
Harry looked around, wondering if anyone paid any attention to them. Madam Pomfrey was busy helping a student fix his broken leg as the drafted in helpers took care of the others. Harry gesture them to follow him. He led his friends down the row of filled beds to the end. Harry pulled back to the curtains
Hermione could not hold back the gasp when she saw who was on the bed. His pale face was drawn back; silver lines marred over what could have easily been a very handsome face. The strand of gray hair wrapped in his cinnamon color hair sparkle in the dim light of the candle next to his face.
“Harry, what is Professor Lupin during here?” Ron voice was a high strain of shock and worry.
Hermione felt drawn to the former professor, looking down at his face. Last time she saw him was in the Great Hall next to Tonks. She laid her small hand over his heart; Lupin did not had the same peaceful look he had earlier. This time his face looked contorted with pain and his scars over his face crinkled and widen. Hermione’s brown eyes widen when she felt his chest rise up and down, ever so slightly.
“Good Merlin!” she nearly screamed out. “He is alive!”
Both Ron and Hermione rounded on Harry like he was the one with all the answers. Harry shook his head, “I don’t know what really happened but I was walking near the Hospital Wing when I saw McGonagall and Mr. Weasley rushing in. I overheard them, saying that Lupin’s body suddenly buckled up and let out a strain breath. It took them a few minutes but they found a pulse.”
A strange tingling sensation traveled up her hand to her arm. Hermione began to wonder if the shock of the happy news had left her body numb. But the rest of her body felt perfectly fine. She looked back at her small hand resting over the patchwork shirt of his. She felt the taboo of his heart thundering against her palm as if tiny hammer wrapped in velvet beating against her palm.
“Professor?” Hermione felt her heart beating along with his. Inside, her heart was coming back to full power. If he was really alive, then it would be one more life that here.
Hermione placed her hand against his cheek; his body temperature was high that it felt warm in a comforting way. Like running in snow and then seating by the fire to warm up. Hermione had read that people afflicted with the werewolf curse had high body heat, feverish to a normal witch or wizard.
Her thumb ran across the ragged indications of his face, feeling the small dip where his scars were. Hermione had no clue why she was touching her former professor but she couldn’t stop herself. It was like writing an essay; she couldn’t stop before she was satisfied. His cheek was moving toward her thumb, the pain on his face lessen. A smile flirted with her lips.
“You three!” the high voice of Pomfrey snapped Hermione out of her thoughts and her hand return to her side. Pomfrey rushed over, her skirts pulled up in her hands. “Unless you are sick, hurt, or injured, this is not a place for you.”
“But, Madam Pomfrey, we saw Professor Lupin come in. We thought that he died and got concern.” Ron spoke, looking to Harry and Hermione for confirmation.
Pomfrey looked at the werewolf in question, her thin lips twisted from a smile of relief and a frown of worry. The Matron looked back the trio, “It is best you return to your dorms. When Lupin wakes up, I will inform the others. ” The ‘when’ sounded more like an ‘if’. “Now, go. ”
Hermione resign to following the busy Matron’s orders, taking both Harry and Ron’s arms and lead them away from the Hospital Wing. Harry, Ron, and Hermione were defiantly intent to find out the secret and the cause of Lupin coming back to life all of the sudden.

Author’s Note: this is my first time writing a fanfiction like this. Now, the Slytherin in question can be of three choices. Severus Snape, Lucius Malfoy, or Draco Malfoy. I will decided on who will be the last member of this threesome (obviously Hermione/Remus) based off votes. Please review and vote!
