Proclamation 2742
The Wizarding world is currently in a state of unrest. In order to counter the recent plummet of marriages and subsequent births, Proclamation 2742 has passed by majority vote in the Wizengamot High Court. To be in accordance with the ruling, any witch or wizard of the age 20 and older must be in compliance with the following rules and regulations:
1. To allow for seekers of marriage, the Wizarding community will be holding eight balls per season. The season will run from August 1 to November 30. There will be 10 different locations, and therefore no matter where you reside or travel a Courtship Ball will be near you.
2. Each witch or wizard of marrying age, 20 or above, is required to attend 6 Courtship Balls per year. Not fulfilling ones duty in attendance will result in imprisonment at Azkaban for up to one year.
3. If a witch or wizard is in compliance with all rules and regulations, he/she may take up to two years time to pick a spouse. If in that time, they have not reached a decision on their own, a profile will be sent through the new creation “Matchmaker” who will assign a spouse based on qualities and characteristics of said witch or wizard.
4. When a spouse is chosen, filing the proper paperwork with the new Marriage Council will be required and a license will be issued for the happy couple. Qualified Marriage Councilors will be sent to your location and your choice of ceremony will be placed on record within the Ministry.
5. Each couple is required to stay married for a 5 year period before any type of separation will be considered by the Ministry. If after 5 years time, a couple wishes to seek separation, the proper paperwork must be filed within the Marriage Council. Only if the Council deems it necessary for a couple to split their union will it be approved.

It had finally come to pass. After months of debates from the Ministry officials, Proclamation 2742 finally had been realized. As Albus Dumbledore sat in his office at Hogwarts surrounded by the Heads of Houses, he sighed and said, “At least they wised up and raised the marriage age to 20. I feared that if it stayed at 17, students would have to forgo their educations to comply with Ministry regulations.”
Professor Severus Snape reached for the Daily Prophet that Dumbledore casually tossed upon his desk and studied the article that went along with the printing of the actual Proclamation. “It says here that Hogwarts will be one of the sites for a Courtship Ball. Does this mean I have to roam the grounds during this event, or can I hide out in the dungeons?”
Dumbledore quietly laughed, “I think that maybe at age 20 and above the attendees would be able to control themselves, of course, seeing that the whole reason for them to be gathering is to marry…well, one can never tell how that will actually work out.”
“I think its sick”, Professor Minerva McGonagall said. “Forcing people to marry before they have even lived. It’s a sad day when love and relationships are dictated by the governmental control of the Ministry.”
“Yes,” replied Albus, “we will just have to wait and see what horrors this brings unto our ever-changing world.”

Albus Dumbledore walked through the doors of Number 12 Grimmauld Place only to find what he had expected; the majority of the residents perusing over the contents of the days paper.
“This means that two of my boys will have to marry,” Molly Weasley said sadly. “I was hoping they would find what Author and I have, but, it appears things will move much more quickly than even I wanted. Author, do you think Bill and Charlie know this has even passed?”
“I think that the both of them have been paying much closer attention to the dealings of this law than even we can fathom. They’ll be alright, Molly. They’ve been given two years to settle down,” replied Author.
Molly and Author Weasley were the parents of 7. Their eldest, Bill, was now 22 and would be pressured more so than his brother Charlie, who was only just now 20, to marry and start a family. Both Molly and Author knew that marriage was the furthest thing from Bill’s mind, he was busy molding his career as a curse breaker with the Wizarding worlds bank, Gringott’s. Bill had been successful in rising through the goblin riddled ranks and had just made Supervisor, securing him a hefty raise and more time off in the year.
The Weasley’s knew that their oldest son dated, but never anyone too seriously. From what they could determine, thru the whispers between Bill and Charlie over cocoa and late nights in the kitchen, Bill had been serious about a girl in 7th year at Hogwart’s, only for it to end leaving Bill jaded at commitment.
Molly always wanted to question Bill but knew that it was personal to him and that he didn’t want to discuss it.
Charlie was the exact opposite of Bill. Free spirited, always out for a good time, never taking on to much responsibility. Molly worried that the end of his bachelor days would also bring around the end of light that sparked Charlie’s world. Making him take responsibility for a wife and a home before he grew to crave those things, Molly feared it would break him.
It didn’t matter now. The Ministry said that the two of them must marry and Molly would support her sons in any way they needed. But first, she needed to speak with them. Make certain they understood the terms of this new law, understood how serious the consequences were.
Sitting at the table of Sirius Black’s forefathers, she penned a note to each son, requesting an audience with the both of them. In two days time, she will be sitting at her own kitchen table, where countless family dinners, fights, and laughter had occurred; there, she will start the long journey of marrying off two of her precious sons.
