The dark rain poured down in sheets on the outside of the castle walls. It was late almost everyone had gone to bed. The halls were quiet and the students were resting all except two. Draco burst through into the west tower his breathing heavy. He pulled lose his tie and threw it to the ground and tugged his white shirt open. He collapse on the balcony under the fall the rain and let out a cry of frustration, pain and futility. It echo though the darken tower and reverberated back out into to the night. Draco hung his head let the rain soak him, wishing it could just wash him away. Praying for some other way, another method, a third choice but knowing it wouldn’t come. The rain beat down on his chest and neck soaking the remainder of his clothes and for a moment he could breathe a little easier. The weight on his chest lessens and he felt that small amount of freedom that was all he knew. Then the smallest sound came from behind him. over the crashing of the rain and the whooshing of the wind a voice spoke.
“Malfoy?” He turned bewildered to see the figure of Hermione Granger standing behind him. Clothed in a dressing gown and Slippers on her feet she looked as if she had just got out of bed. Then he saw one of the alcoves was coated with a small blanket and a book lay next to. That was where she must have been sitting and that was of course why he hadn’t seen her. At first he didn’t move he didn’t know what to do. She was one of the worst possible people who could have found him here. He realised then he was just staring at her, the expression on her face though was not one of fear or confusion or even humour. She looked almost torn, but about what? More importantly why did it matter? She meant nothing to him, sure there had always been a slight mystery to her and indefinable lure that had always stirred something in him and she was sort of beautiful almost sexy. In the last few years she had really grown into herself. Then her transformation at the Yule ball, the glorious creature she had become that night had done a hell of lot more than just stirred him and he was not the only one. After the boys had to admit she was bloody gorgeous but at the end of the day she was Granger and therefore forbidden.
Deciding he had given Hermione enough blackmail and humiliation material already, he got up to leave. As he passed her to his shock she grabbed his arm. For spilt second an image of the pair them appeared in his mind; Hermione pinned to the wall head tilled back as his tongue ran up her neck. Her voice once again interrupted him.
“Wait I won’t say anything” she said gently letting her fingers trail down to his hand. She the tips of her fingers follow a rain drop off the back of his hand once and then she dropped them and moved away. He just nodded curtly and left trying to ignore the tingling sensations she had left behind. As he headed back to his room he pulled out the letter once more.
The time has come for you to become the man you were born as. You are to join this spring don’t let me down my son.

Hermione stood there in shock not sure what she had just witness but whatever it was it clearly wasn’t good. She stared at the spot where he had been knelt, she remember how truly broken he had looked; broken and frustrated. She had felt the urge to comfort him somehow but she knew that he probably would have been disgusted by that. After all, they weren’t friends or anything close to that. She sighed and shook her head beside Malfoy’s idea of comfort usually involved some form of sex and she definitely wasn’t offering that. Then something caught her eye. It was the tie he had taken off throw into the corner. She bent down and picked up unsure with what to do with it. She placed into her pocket deciding she could return it later. Then she too headed off to bed, the image of his tortured face still in her mind.

Draco closed his door and slammed his head against it. He couldn’t believe he had been so stupid. Granger. Granger. Of all the people he could have exposed himself in front of she was the worse. There was no way to deny what see had seen; which all of Gryffindor if not half the school would know about it by tomorrow. She had the power over him for a change.
“Idiot, idiot, idiot” he said still banging his head against the door. As if his house didn’t already doubt him, this was just going to confirm everything. For the last four years Draco had fought back rumours that he was losing his touch that his flair for pride and women had gone. That he was losing confidence, that he had lost his ambition. It was true of course he had long since given up on the supposed slytherin life of glory mostly because he wanted nothing to do with any of it. Not the women, not the bullying, not the destiny. He kept secret though because he couldn’t let anyone know of his plans. He had known this would come, he was terrified of because it would mean the end of everything. But what choice did he have, he had grown up with that kind of evil been surrounded by it all his life, he had already decided he would not become it.
He pulled from the door
“Ow” he said surprise by how much that actually hurt. He went to his bed and collapsed on it dreading tomorrow’s prefect council meeting. Usually Granger and himself had a sort of truce for these meeting and for the rest of their duties as head boy and girl together; they ignored each other unless strictly necessary. It worked fairly well most of the time they meet up just the two of them once a week in their common room to go over; week patrol schedules, up coming events such balls and parties and review the prefects activities for the week such as the taking of house points and alike. He admit he did tease sometimes but it was nothing compare to what it used to be, it was just for fun to caused a little frustration and to keep the mood light. He only did on bad days and he was sure that even Granger enjoyed their little sparring matches. She relished the chance to show her intellect and quick thinking skills as did he. Truthfully Granger was the only kind of match for him, the only challenge in every respect and he enjoyed it as did she. But now it was going to be hell.
