“James…” Lily Potter put her hand on her husband’s tense shoulder as they looked in the crib at their newborn child, “Harry will be just fine on his own, it’s time to come to bed,”

“I know… It’s just after what Dumbledore told us-”

“I won’t let that bastard get my son!” Lily suddenly snarled, “No one will be touching our kit James, even he can’t get through the wards Dumbledore has set up… Even if he did Harry will be instantly gone anyways, far away where that bastard would never think to look for him. Now, bed!”

Tom Marvolo Riddle, or Voldemort as he was better known as, paced angrily up the walkway of the Potters home in Godrics Hollow. How dare they? Idiotic mortals! Who the fuck do they think they are, trying to keep his mate from him? Honestly, you’d think they believed that he would attack the little one while he was still a child! Didn’t they know anything about Incubuses and their mates?

Incubuses always know when their mate has been born, not where they are though which is what leads to many never finding their mates. A tragedy really, to know, beyond a doubt, that there is someone out there perfect for you and never being able to find them. Once they found their mate however there was an instant link between them, joining their souls and life-force together. However should they find their mate, and that mate is under the age of 17 – where the Incu-Sucu community have always seen as the age of maturity, since the dawn of their kind and well, despite modern standards this was never really going to change – then the mating is already activated but… different. It’s not a sexual need between them but something softer and sweeter, just cuddling, love, everyday affection. Without their mate there to provide the necessary care many mates died before the age of 16, starved as though they were kept from food and water. After a chance meeting with the Potter family a few weeks ago the mating had already been started, and the bumbling fools were trying to keep the little one away from him!

It was all that damned Dumblefore’s fault, Voldemort just knew it, he was so concerned about his attempts to bring the wizarding world farther away from the harmful and idiotic humans that he was trying to sabotage him! Voldemort thought that him trying to turn the wizarding world against him was bad! Now this! Honestly!

His best friend, Lucius Malfoy, walked besides him trying desperately to calm his lord down enough that this didn’t blow up in their faces.

It wasn’t working. At all.

“My lor-” He began again, because any second now they’d reach the front door and then all hell was going to break loose and he had Snape at home, heavily pregnant, who would KILL him if he let something happen to their best friend.

“Lucius, if someone had Severus and was keeping him from you and without you he’d die you wouldn’t want me to be telling you to calm down now would you?!” Voldemort screamed, agitated and angry, he could feel the little ones pain already and it had been just a few weeks, how much longer could someone, especially someone so little, survive like that?

Oh yeah, Lucius thought, this isn’t going to end well and Sev’s gonna kill me. Great, just fucking great.

As suspected it all went tits up the moment Voldemort burst through the front door, wand out and blazing with Lucius just a step behind him. When the Potters lay dead, and the house in shambles, it was Lucius who had to pick his best friend off the floor of the nursery where he lay crying because the little one was gone, spirited off by magic before he could save him.

And it was Lucius, along with Severus, who picked him up and helped him keep going for the next eleven years as his best friend and lord searched the globe, ignoring the wizarding world so nearly completely that many thought him dead and gone, Harry Potter the savior. Just as Dumbledore had always planned.

Short little prologue, promise the chapters will be longer and fuller and better :DD To anyone who is reading my other story (To Become Whole Again) I'm sorry, I know I'm late on the latest chapter but this little bunny wouldn't let me go!
