It was a beautiful summer day at Number 4 Private Drive in Little Whinging. A slight breeze was flowing across the immaculate lawns not moving a single grass blade from it perfectly cut place. The sun was hardly a cloud in the sky. Occasionally the light bell like sound of children laughing at the near by park could be heard. Looking at Number 4 Private Drive you would no one could be happier. The house looked as perfect as all the other cookie cutter houses that lines the street it was on, only one young boy was sitting up in his room not enjoying the lovely day. Of course he wasn't sulking nor was he busy being entertained by anything else, he simply wasn't allowed outside thanks to his uncle and aunt. His room was very bare except for a small dresser, a large trunk, and a small bed with a very strange looking broom was leaning up against it. The large trunk was overflowing with clothes and fascinating looking objects. A very well used snitch was laying in a corner ready to be released from its slumber for an exciting game of Quidditch. Nothing decorated the off white color walls. You would not think at first that a seventeen year old boy lived in this room. Harry just sat on his bed and aimlessly twirled his wand in his hand as he gazed out his bar covered window. Sighing he fall back on to his bed as thoughts and images raced threw his mind.
He was bored out of his mind ever since Dumbledore sent him back here to keep him safe while they rounded up the last of the death eaters. He raised a hand and rubbed at his forehand his fingers tracing his scar. It amazed him how much a strange looking scar could cause so much trouble. A slight shiver came over him as he thought about exactly how strange his scar was. A piece of the soul of a mad man had been housed safely inside his body for years until his sixth year when he was able to finally get rid of the leeching thing. The final battle ended after days of fighting from both sides. Large numbers of witches and wizards died those following days. It wasn't until the seventh night that Voldemort made a rash decision and caused his own down fall. He attacked from the lake near the boat house. Voldemort thought he was being sneaky but he had not been prepared for the merpeople to attack him and drag many of his followers to the icy depths of the black lake. The order seizing their chance attack one finally time with everything they had and rid the world of Voldemort forever with a single spell spoken from Harry's lips and the combined powers of everyone.
Shacking himself out of his memories he ran a hand across his face and into his hair. His black strands stood up at odd messy angles. Sighing again he sat up and tired to pat his hair back down but knew it was a loss cause. His hair which he inherited from his father would never be tamable. Again he looked out the window hoping and wishing to see an owl carrying a letter. He gazed out for a few minutes into the prefect blue sky before giving up on seeing anything. He hadn't received a letter from anyone since he was dumped here. His uncle and aunt wouldn't let him out of his room since they were still angry about having to move away and then move back. They didn't even talk to him all that much either unless to tell him to clean the house or to quickly eat and go back to his room. Harry wondered why he couldn't stay at the Weasley's.Their house was just as safe as here and he could then spend time with his two best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. He grinned slightly to himself thinking about how his friends finally realized their feeling for each other in the middle of the battle. He was slightly jealous as he was sure they were having a great time together.
He wished he could of stayed and helped them rebuild Hogwarts since it had sustained great damage to it during the final battle. Hogwarts would always be his home no matter what. He knew he wouldn't be too much of help but he was sure they could use anything help they could get. The giants that Voldemort had on his side did a number to the castle walls during the battle. They took out the northern tower completely knocking it to the ground causing a hug hole to open up in the castle. Harry felt like he was going to burst if he didn't leave here soon. He felt completely alienated from the world when he was here.
He also felt like he was missing something. Why no one was owling him keeping him up to date on things was very puzzling. He had thought maybe they were just too buys at first but he figured they would owl him at some point. Not a single letter and it was almost time for him to go back to Hogwarts. He also hadn't noticed at first but he had stopped receiving his news letters. Thinking that maybe the owl had just got lost he didn't worry about the first one that had went missing but now he had missed several weeks worth of news about the world he loved. Now it was 3 Pm and he didn't even get his usual letters and goodies for his birthday. Not that Harry wanted to sound whiny but he also got letters and goodies for his birthday at midnight. He was growing more and more angry as he felt like he was left, abandoned by his friends. Until he looked over at his dresser and saw one letter sitting there. His angry disappeared and he climbed off his bed and looked over the letter again. A small smile crawled across his lips as he reread the letter.
Hey Harry,
How are you? I hope your having a good summer. Bet your getting loads of letters from people thanking you. Gram and I had to send all the letter I was getting into our owlery because they wouldn't stop coming. I bet your hanging out with Ron and Hermione right? Tell them I said hi and am looking forward to school starting back up. Maybe this year will be a bit more quiet. I'm sure you've been hearing all about how they are catching all the death eaters and sending them away to Azkaban. Kingsley is turning out to be a great Minister of Magic, Gram is very happy with all the new laws he has passed. I'm sure you have heard all about this though. I wanted to congratulate you on getting the First Order of Merlin. You deserve it from all the craziness you went through. Also wanted to wish you a happy Birthday mate. Gran signed me up for dueling lesson this summer and we went and got myself my own wand. As nice as it was using my father my new wand works much better. Maybe I wont have anything blow up on me this year. Gram and I have been having a blast traveling around the world. Just last week we went to Rome and now heading on our way to Botswana for a safari. Well can't wait to see you on the train. Have a good rest of the summer.
Your friend,
Neville
Wrapped inside the letter had been a picture of Neville stand outside of some ruins. Harry looked over the picture and almost couldn't believe his eyes. The once shy clumsy Neville Longbottom looked to be almost 6'4 and was very muscular. He was waving at Harry from the picture and grinning dashingly. His muscular arms crossed across his wide broad chest. Harry's eyes traveled down Neville's body taking in his toned looking stomach and muscular legs. He licked his lips subconsciously, his eyes went back to Neville's face and Neville winked at him from the picture. His faced flushed red as he felt a surge of arousal go run through his body. Harry's head jerked back as he couldn't believe he was thinking Neville was looking very attractive and was getting aroused by the sight of him. "I need to get out of this room." Harry said to himself as he dropped the picture and walked back to his bed and sat down. Funny that Neville who was a close friend would owl him but no one else did. The only bit of news he had was from what Neville had told him in his latter.
"Some friends..." Harry mumbled to himself. Not even Ginny had owled him. He had thought that they would get back together after he had killed Voldemort. It seemed like that was how things were suppose to be. Ginny and him get back together and Ron and Hermione date and they all hangout together during the summer beforer they have to go back to Hogwarts. Well now that he thought about Ginny he wasn't really feeling any romantic feeling towards her. In fact he was starting to wonder if he had every had romantic feeling towards her. Rubbing his face he could feel a headache forming from trying to think about how he felt about her. So instead he thought about what Ron and Hermione could be up too. "Probably snogging every where" harry said snickering to himself. Why couldn't they owl him. Why couldn't they convince someone to bust him out. Feeling himself getting worked up he walked over to his trunk and grabbed his broom cleaning kit.
He didn't even realize that a couple of hours had gone by until he realized he was having trouble seeing his broom because it had gotten so dark in his bedroom. Putting it to the side he got up and turned on his lamp and saw that a sandwich and a glass of water had been left by the little opening at the bottom of his door. He walked over and grabbed the food. He couldn't help but think about Mrs. Weasley's cooking and how much better it was then this plain sandwich.
Suddenly a tapping sound dragged him out of his brooding. A large grey owl holding a package was waiting patiently outside his window. Getting excited that maybe they hadn't forgotten his birthday after all. He opened the window and in flew the owl dropping the large package. Harry went over to his trunk and grabbed the owl a treat. It quickly gobbled down the treat and flew out the window. It disappeared in to the horizon.
Harry closed the window and went to open the package. It was large and oddly shaped wrapped in brown paper with a white string keeping it wrapped together. A small white envelope was laying on top of it. It had the most curious coat of arms on it. A badger, a snake, a lion and a raven was on the front of the envelope. Harry immediately recognized this was from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Opening it he read out loud,"

Harry wondered why they would be holding a ball this year. He made a mental note to see if his formal robes still fit from fourth year. He figured they might since he hadn't grown much since then only a couple of inches making him 5'5. He always hated how he was always the shortest guy in his year. He had hoped that he was a late bloomer but it didn't look like he was going to get any taller.
He shook his head of this depressing thoughts and turned back to the package. Opening it up he quickly saw that it was the books and supplies he would need this year. There was even new robes in there for him. Harry felt his face heating up. He couldn't believe they went and got his supplies for him and didn't even ask. Harry grabbed one of the books and threw it across the room where it made a loud smacking noise.
"BOY YOU BETTER STOP MAKING SO MUCH NOISE BEFORE I COME UP THERE" Screamed Vernon Harry's uncle from down stairs. Harry decided he didn't want to deal with Vernon so didn't throw another book. Instead he dropped down back on to his bed. He felt lonely and betrayed. Why didn't they ask if he wanted to go get his supplies. Was it really that dangerous that he couldn't even go to Diagon Alley.
Harry fell back on the bed and sighed at least he had only two more weeks until he could go back to Hogwarts. Closing his eyes he slowly drifted off to sleep thinking about flying his broom again and seeing all his friends.
The next two weeks went by fairly weekly for Harry. His uncle decided instead of him being stuck up in his room all day, he was going to do chores. Harry found himself thankful for something to do. You could only polish your broom stick so many times. It also helped keep his mind off the fact that no one had still contacted him.
Harry found himself working in the garden the following week. Pausing to wipe his forehead with the back of his hand. Today had been very hot and humid. He was watering his aunts flowers. "Can't have the neighbors see my garden not looking perfect." Harry mocks his aunt in a high pitch voice. Of course as soon as he stopped to take a little break he couldn't help but let his mind wonder about his friends and the order. Was everyone alright? Did something big happen and that is why they hadn't contacted him. He had thought about traveling to Grimmauld Place. But he knew they would be angry with him if he endangered himself for no reason. He couldn't help but think of the Department of Mysteries all over again. No he would stay here until they sent word or someone came to get him. He couldn't allow any more people to die because he acted reckless.
Sighing Harry continued with his chores. Uncle Vernon left him a list to do. Pulling the piece of paper out of his pocket. Looking down at it harry crossed off one of the to dos. Seeing that there was only one more thing to do. Groaning Harry saw he needed to clean the gutters of leaves and other debris. Dragging his feet he started walking to the shed. Harry pulled out the ladder, gloves, and a bucket. He walked back over to the roof and started climbing to the roof. The sun already pounding into his back making his shirt cling to him as he sweat.
Climbing to the top he saw he had a great view of the small neighbor hood. Dozens of houses that all looked alike lined the streets. A small tree here and there broke the perfect line. With perfectly trimmed bushes and lush green grass Harry thought it looked like something out of one of those fairy tale perfect life stories. Looking over the landscape one more time Harry for any sign of an owl he got to work.
The sun beat down on his back all day. Making him lazy and not really aware of his surroundings. For had he seen who was coming his way he would not have stayed up on that roof.
"Cleaning the gutters. Sounds like the perfect job for you. Something disgusting to clean up something disgusting." A voiced mocked to him from the ground. Turning his head Harry peered over the side of the roof. Standing in all his bulky glory stood Dudley. Harry not really in the mood to deal with him replied sneeringly, "Well at least I can climb up here and not break the ladder with my own weight." Dudley's face turned red and contorted into a look of anger. He walked over to the ladder grabbed it and then threw it on the ground. Feeling better Dudley laughed at Harry and walked inside the house.
Harry realizing he had maybe pushed Dudley a little to far started yelling,"Dudley I'm sorry your not fat! Your just big boned!" Not hearing a reply from Dudley he grimaced. How was he going to get down now? If he jumped he would probably break his legs and his uncle and aunt wouldn't be too happy about taking him to the hospital. He couldn't use magic because there were muggles around who would see him. Sighing Harry decided he should at least finish cleaning gutters before he figured out how to get down.
A couple hours later Harry was still on the roof sitting and waiting for Dudley to come out and put his ladder back up or wait for his uncle and aunt to get home. They were not going to be happy about him being stuck on the roof all day. "I can just hear it now, stupid boy what have you done." Harry said to himself. He found himself actually enjoying the peace and quiet that was on the roof. Also it was fun waving at people who walked down the street staring up at him. They would give him strange looks before hurrying away. His enjoyment though was short lived as his uncle and aunt pulled up to the house. Vernon's face was about two shades from purple and looking like he was going to erupt like tea pot. His walrus like mustache was twitching with his anger. Aunt Petunia horse like face was stark white and her mouth was open in horror at the thought that all the neighbors had saw him.
Harry just waved, then sat there and listened to his uncle explode with anger. He knew he was gong to be up here a little longer so Harry just sat back and waited. Maybe his summer hadn't been the greatest but it was definitely better then it had been in the past.
AN: alright so what did you think? I had to take a break from it and get new ideas because i felt like the story wasn't going in the direction I wanted it to go in.
