Last (Friday) Night
The world was a confusing blur of pain and pleasure. The pain was at Harry's temples, a steady pounding of elephant drums, making his stomach queasy. The pleasure was the feel of soft skin against skin, and fading dreams of a fantastic night of lovemaking. He was naked. And it felt like there was cotton in his mouth.
Harry opened his eyes.
He was lying in a big pile of cushions with a tablecloth of some kind serving as a blanket, spooned up against someone warm. And blond. Harry wasn't sure what was more shocking--the fact that he had apparently passed out naked in the tower where Professor Tralawney conducted Divinations classes . . . or that he'd apparently got lucky there as well. He vaguely remembered the graduation party, getting into some kind of drinking game . . . from there, the details were fuzzy.
From his bed partner there came a soft murmur, and Harry's cock brushed up against bare arse. Harry swallowed a groan. Morning wood, on top of everything else. He reached up to touch the soft, nearly platinum hair, wondering how the deuces he and Luna could have wound up . . .
Only it wasn't Luna.
Harry bolted upright as soon as he realized who it was, and he wasn't sure what was more disturbing--the fact that the sight of Draco asleep next to him felt so right . . . or the fact that they both seemed to be covered in glitter.
Now how had that happened?
It was with a certain amount of horror that Harry watched as Draco's eyes fluttered open, horror not so much that they'd had sex--he could blame that on the drink. But how would Draco react now, in the sober light of day?
It took a few seconds for awareness to come to those cool grey eyes, and then Draco gasped, clutching the tablecloth to cover himself. Harry grabbed a cushion to hide his own little problem from view. His headache was all but forgotten.
"What kind of joke is this? What did you do to me?" Draco asked, and Harry sighed; it was the usual distrust, the same prickly attitude that Draco also displayed around him. It had been that way all year, while all the eighth years tried to adjust to the fact they'd had to retake classes and try to get along with the Slytherins, despite the fact quite a few members of that house had family either dead or in jail.
Harry scratched his hair, wishing he had some clothes on, anything. "Apparently we had a lot of fun, and a lot of drink last night. Do you remember anything?"
**
Harry remembered the first part of the evening clearly. The eighth years had decided to hold a party in the Great Hall following the day of their N.E.W.T.s and official graduation. At first it had seemed like a pretty bland affair, with mango punch and the usual feast supplied by Hogwarts house elves. There had been some dancing, and huddles of students chatting and making plans for places they planned to interview, graduation trips, or just plain relaxing. Harry had been sitting at a table with Luna and Neville, just watching things, and wondering what in Merlin's name he wanted to do with his life. He'd noticed Draco sitting with Pansy and Blaise, looking dark and brooding.
Then Ron and Seamus came up with evil grins on their faces. They both began talking at once.
"Guess what George gave me!" Ron said
"Guess what I looted from my grandfather's cellar!" Seamus said in his lilting accent.
"Do I want to know?" Harry had been ready to call it quits from the party, just as half the faculty already had. But something about their excitement lured him.
"George has been playing with some alternative firewhiskey brews--this one he swears is five times as potent," Ron started off, pulling a bottle from the sleeve of his robes. "Want to spike the punch with me? Oh--and he also gave me sleeping potion--for the faculty drinks." He grinned.
Seamus clapped Ron on the back. "Brilliant! Mine's not so ambitious, but yours will make it a lot easier. I pocketed my da's bottle of rainbow spirits--there's a game, needs four of us, that I'd love to try. In for it?"
Ron blushed, looking guilty. "Actually, I'll have to bow out this time . . . Hermione, she's never been drunk before, and . . ." He grinned. "I have plans. Hopefully they work out."
Seamus looked imploringly at Harry. "C'mon, Harry! You've got to do this with me! We'll find a couple other players, no worries!"
Well it seemed like his two best friends were going to be otherwise occupied. Harry shrugged. "Why not?" He was curious exactly what a "rainbow spirit" was. He glanced at Neville and Luna. "Join us?"
"Sure," Neville said, but Luna shook her head, smiling enigmatically. She stood up, gathering her things.
"I'd really rather not engage in drinking. It dulls the senses, and then you can't see the moon frogs. I'm going to go out and look for them--I'll bet they'll be attracted by all the merrymaking." With that, Luna waved dreamily at each of them and wandered off. Ron shrugged, and nudged closer.
"Let me borrow your cloak?"
Harry sighed and handed it over. It wasn't long after that the professors, still sipping their mango punch, began to slide back in their seats, falling into a deep slumber. Ron appeared with bottle in hand. "Let the real party begin!" He announced to the room, holding up the bottle.
There came whoops of joy from the students, as Ron headed over to the punch to add his bit of zing to it. Seamus laughed and cleared the table, sitting next to Neville. He tried to wave over a few passing students from Hufflepuff, but everyone seemed intent on the punch. Seamus pulled at Harry's sleeve. "Grab us another player!"
Harry looked around nervously, wondering who he could possibly ask. It seemed that students were breaking up into groups, some bringing out their instruments to play music, others sneaking off elsewhere, in pairs and small groups. Draco was sitting all alone as if trying to be invisible. A mad thought entered Harry's mind--why not? He stood up and walked over, scratching the back of his neck which seemed oddly hot. "We need a fourth--drinking game. Join us?"
Draco stared at Harry as if he'd gone daft, which was entirely possible given that he was actually asking. But why shouldn't he? Draco had been better behaved this year than Harry had ever seen him before. He'd been humbled. It would probably actually do him some good to let loose a little.
A sudden resolution came into Draco's face, or a submission--Harry wasn't sure which. "Why not?" He said with a shrug that looked forced, rather than nonchalant. Harry's heart was pounding, which didn't make any sense at all. It was a bloody drinking game. That was all.
Harry smiled, pleased to see there was still a little spark there. He knew Draco had been having a rough time of it. "Come on over, then. We'll be starting." He turned and walked back over to Seamus and Neville, watching as Seamus brought out four shot glasses and a large black bottle with a colorful label. He turned the bottle over in his hand, showing it to Neville and Harry.
"So the color that pours out for each shot is random, see? And then you have to do the action written here for whatever color your shot is," Seamus was saying as Harry sat down. The three of them paused as Draco approached them warily, sitting a little ways down from Harry as if he might bite. Seamus raised his eyebrows at Harry.
Harry shrugged. "Thought it might be interesting."
Seamus chuckled. "Should be, at that. So anyways, like if you get 'violet', that's a spiritual color, so you have to stand on the table and preach, or give a palm reading or something silly like that." He set the bottle down. "So are we ready?"
"Ready," Neville said with a shake of his head and a laugh, as several girls raced by, chasing what appeared to be Dean Thomas sporting a wolf's head and tail--possibly a Transfiguration gone wrong?
"Right!" Seamus said, and opened the bottle, pouring them each a shot. Harry watched in fascination as each shot was poured bearing an entirely different color. Yellow for himself, green for Neville, orange for Seamus and blue for Draco. "Drink first," Seamus ordered, and they all did so. Harry's tasted like lemon drops and burned all the way down to his stomach. Whatever the shot was, it was powerful.
"Lessee," Seamus said, reading the label on the bottle. He snorted. "Blue is safe--you don't have to do anything this round, Draco. Yellow--that's fear. Harry, you have to either do something dangerous, or tell us your biggest fear." He grinned. "And since we already know you hate Dementors, I say you have to take some risk." He chewed on his lip, reading further. "Neville--"
Neville sighed. "Mine's green--does that mean I have to grow something? I'm actually a bit sick of herbology."
Seamus laughed. "Not in this game. Green means gross, disgusting. Either perform a disgusting trick or tell a disgusting story." He glanced at the bottle again. "And orange . . . hmm. Violence." He gave a low whistle, squirming in his seat a bit. "I either have to fight someone, or break something."
"I'm not sure I like this game," Neville said nervously. Harry shrugged. He looked around the room, trying to think. The drink was already giving him a nice happy warm feeling in his stomach.
Seamus, for his part, got up and walked over to Justin Finch-Fletchley who was laughing, sharing a drink with Ernie and Hannah. Seamus said in a loud voice, "Sorry." Then he punched Justin in the face. Harry's jaw dropped, as did Neville's and Draco's.
Harry jumped up. "I think this might count as dangerous," he told the two of them, and rushed over to break up the fight, wincing as a blow meant for Seamus glanced off his shoulder. "It was for a game!" He shouted, pushing Justin back. Thankfully, after a glare at Seamus, Justin sat back down again. Seamus was sporting a new black eye.
"Brilliant!" Seamus said, as the two of them headed back to the table. Just as they sat down, Neville snorted and coughed up some phlegm, spitting it at Seamus's feet. He looked up guiltily.
"Does that work?" The bottle rattled; they all looked at it.
"Looks like it does--ew," Seamus said, taking the bottle. "It won't pour the next round until the actions are done," he explained, as he began pouring again.
This time Harry received a blue shot, as did Seamus. Neville received a violet shot, and Draco received green. He looked at it in distaste. "I am absolutely not repeating such a vile act," he stated. Harry downed his drink—this time it tasted like blueberry.
"At least they all seem to taste good," Harry said, as the room began to spin a little. Neville and Seamus drank theirs, and finally, with a sigh, Draco drank his as well.
Draco surprised them by speaking first. "I saw You Know Who rape Dolohov once just for a laugh." He swallowed, looking ill, and Harry blanched. Neville and Seamus looked horrified.
"That's definitely gross," Seamus confirmed. He shuddered. "Neville?"
Neville shook his head, as if to shake away the image. "Right—uh—Harry, I predict that, uh, you're going to receive a big surprise tomorrow morning! And uh . . . it'll be a good one!" He looked with doubt at Seamus. "That good enough?"
Seamus shrugged. "Reckon we'll see." The bottle rattled again. "Round three!" He poured, and as they watched, first one, then two, then three, then all four glasses came out as a deep red liquor. Seamus cocked his head in confusion. "Well I've never seen it do that before. He frowned as he read the action. "Bloody hell. I should have read this further before we started." He was blushing deep red.
Harry had a feeling he wasn't going to like this. "What? What do we have to do?" He was torn between taking a drink and throwing it in Seamus's face.
"Well we might as well enjoy the drink--and by the way, if we don't do the action, the bottle won't ever pour another shot and my Da will kill me. So please keep that in mind." Seamus cleared his throat, still blushing. "Red means passion--now normally, if one person gets red, they just snog anyone in the room. But, um . . . when there's more than one, it means you have to kiss the other player." He reached out and took his drink, slamming it down, then before the rest of them could react, he pulled Neville over and kissed him hard on the mouth.
Neville gave a little sound of surprise, and Harry felt his mouth go dry and his heart start to race, accompanied by a warm feeling south of his belt line--it really shouldn't affect him that much, should it? He wondered. But then the kiss was over and Seamus was wiping his mouth as if it had disgusted him--only by the look on his face, it really hadn't. Neville looked shaken. "I really wish you had let me take my drink first," he said uncertainly and quickly lifted his glass to his lips. He drank his shot slowly, his hand shaking a little, then resolutely put it down. It looked like he wasn't sure how he should react.
The two of them were now watching Harry and Draco, waiting. Harry didn't want to do it, but he made himself turn to look at Draco, aware that not only was his neck hot this time, but his entire body as well.
Draco was glaring at him, and the heat in his gaze made Harry's heart skip a beat. "You set this up. You tricked me into playing this."
Harry blinked in surprise taken back, but Seamus hurried to his rescue. "Naw--it wasn't his fault, because I didna tell him anything about the game. It's my fault, really. But come on. It's only a bloody kiss. Not like I'm forcin' you to marry him or anything." He laughed, and his words were slurred, smoothed by the alcohol. "I'm still having fun."
Harry sighed and reached forward for his drink--whatever happened, he needed the liquid courage now. He drank, and immediately he knew why Seamus sounded pissed--the stuff was strong, dark cherry, making the room spin. He shrugged a shoulder at Draco. "Come on. Let's just get it over with, all right?" He couldn't stop his gaze from dropping to focus on Draco's lips, thinking they looked . . . delicious. He'd noticed before, he had a feeling, but the idea of it had never felt so appealing before.
Draco groaned, looking frustrated. He rubbed his chin, still glaring at Harry, glancing also at Seamus and Neville. Again, that look of submission came over his face, like he'd been fighting with something for a long time and was just tired of fighting. He huffed, and reached out to take his drink, downing it quickly. He swayed a little in his seat after. "Cripes. What is that, a hundred proof?" He cleared his throat. "At least I probably won't remember this. Just hurry." He scooted over closer to Harry, and closed his eyes, hands gripping the bench as if to anchor himself.
He was making Harry do this? Harry swallowed, far too aware that he had Seamus and Neville watching. The last thing he wanted to look like was hesitant and tender, like it had been with Cho. Or desperate, as it had been with Ginny--and yet things hadn't really sparked for them since them. Maybe just rough and to the point. Yes, that was probably best.
So Harry dove in, cupping Draco's cheek just so he could make sure he didn't miss and bash noses or something, closing his mouth over Draco's and kissing him for all he was worth. It wasn't meant to be a long kiss, but as soon as his lips touched Draco's his body took over, and he found Draco's mouth opening for him, the heat escalating, drawing him in deeper. Their tongues dueled, and Harry could taste the sweet cherry, sucking Draco's tongue into his mouth, feeling his cock go rock hard. Draco started responding more to the kiss as well, and Harry could just barely hear a little moan from the back of Draco's throat, which seemed to sear a line straight down his chest to his groin. Someone seemed to be whispering somewhere nearby, but all Harry's attention was on Draco's mouth.
Seamus cleared his throat loudly, and Harry froze, remembering where they were, what he was supposed to be doing. He and Draco both pulled back at the same time. Draco was glaring at him again, the moment of surrender gone as if it had never been.
"I—" Harry began, but he had no idea what to say. His body was still on fire. He couldn't look at Draco without seeing how red his lips were now, engorged by the kiss. So Harry looked at Seamus instead.
Seamus was still blushing, but he was also looking at Harry with avid interest, as if he was a fine scotch. "Cripes, Harry. I don't know whether I'm jealous or relieved I didn't pick you."
Harry laughed nervously. Neville just looked plain uncomfortable. "Are we nearly done, I hope?" He glanced over at a table of Gryffindor girls; one of them was dancing on the table, Hannah, Harry thought. "I can think of others I'd rather be kissing right now."
"Last round," Seamus confirmed, picking up the bottle again. If it had rattled this time, Harry hadn't noticed it.
Harry was pointedly trying to ignore Draco, and he had a feeling Draco was doing the same, if he dared to look. Again, all four shots came out the same color, but this time the color was black. Harry looked at Seamus worriedly. "What does that mean?"
Seamus shrugged. "It simply means the end of the game." He read the label. "End of game. Freedom. Forgetfulness." He laughed. "I have no idea what that means. But I do know that we don't have to do any particular actions." He set the bottle down and picked up his shot, holding it up. "Cheers?"
Harry and Neville picked up theirs at once, but Draco was slower, still glowering at them, distrustful. "I'm never doing this again," he announced. His sounded breathy, ragged. Harry wasn't sure if he should be worried that the thing he wanted to do most right now was receive another red shot and kiss Draco again.
"Cheers," Neville and Harry said, and the four of them drank the final shot. It tasted like licorice, which didn't really surprise Harry that much.
And that was the last thing that he remembered.
***
"We had a drinking game—remember that?" Harry could only imagine what had happened after, that had led to them being up here in the tower room, but it wasn't so hard to imagine how things had taken this particular turn. He remembered just how much he'd wanted Draco. And now he didn't even get to enjoy the memory of what they'd done, and Draco was probably going to hate him even more. Along with that came the stray thought. I'm gay. No wonder it never really felt right with Ginny. It was like something of a revelation. "I'm sorry. I didn't even know I, uh, was bent this way. Until now." There was a queasy feeling in Harry's stomach, just anticipating Draco's next acid retort. "I don't remember anything after that last shot."
"Neither do I," Draco said warily. It surprised Harry that he didn't even comment about the bent thing.
So apparently that 'forgetfulness' had been quite literal. And what about the freedom? Harry began looking around for their clothes, anything to tell him what all had happened. They didn't even have their wands. "Probably it would be better to have this conversation with some clothes on," he said by way of explanation.
"No, I think I prefer being wrapped in a fucking table cloth," Draco snapped, and there it was, that spark that had been missing for most of the year.
Draco began looking as well, pulling up the cushions of what had been their bed. There was no sign of even a sock. "Where are they?" Draco demanded, sounding frustrated, panicked.
Harry scratched at his head, and pulled off another tablecloth just so he could tie it around his waist and be able to use both hands. They'd torn up the place, but there were no signs of their clothing. "I don't know." He tried to think. Tried to remember what kissing Draco had felt like, what being with him might have been like.
There was an image, of warm water, of someone giggling—not Draco—and of a splashing game between him and Draco which ended up with them kissing hard, hands exploring naked flesh under water as faucets poured out hot steaming water to add to the bath . . . . Harry blinked, still feeling that tightness in his groin, that want. Whatever they'd done last night had done nothing to sate his hunger. "The bath—the prefects bathroom. I think they might be there."
Draco huffed in frustration. "Brilliant. Let's get there before anybody sees us."
The two of them stayed close together, creeping down the tower stairs to the castle proper, trying to hurry along the empty corridors and down the stairs. Harry had no idea what time it was, if the faculty had woken from their sleeping draughts or not. At least it seemed most of the school was still asleep. Of course just as he thought that, they turned a corner and nearly ran into Padma and Pavarti. Harry and Draco froze, caught.
Padma and Pavarti both laughed, but it wasn't a mocking laugh--or even a surprised one, for that matter, Harry realized. They seemed pleased, of all things. "Well, well!" Padma exclaimed. "Looks like the two of you found a room after all."
"Excuse me?" Harry said. His head was positively spinning, but he wasn't sure if it was the after effects of the drink or just plain shock that they weren't shocked. Beside him, he could feel Draco trying to draw back, to be invisible. The tablecloths were woefully inadequate cover, only really hiding the most important bits.
"You don't remember? The two of you--in the Great Hall?" Pavarti said, and the two of them were positively grinning. "It was brilliant! The two of you--and Harry, you had Draco up against the wall . . . " She giggled, fanning herself. "Hot!"
Harry felt the blood rushing to his cheeks. The wall? That didn't sound like the drinking game kiss. "I--no--was it?" Why did they seem so bloody happy it about it all?
Padma nodded emphatically. "Totally hot--all the girls thought so. You two were really into each other. I mean, hoooo! I don't think I've ever been kissed like that." She blushed as well, grinning.
All the girls? Harry glanced over at Draco, and it seemed in the scramble upstairs he'd been too busy to notice, but now he could see a few results of what must have been a snogfest--bright red and purple marks, up and down Draco's throat, over his chest . . . . were those bruises, or hickeys? Draco looked torn between being horrified or just plain bewildered.
"Absolutely amazing," Pavarti confirmed, pulling at her sister's hand. "Anyways, we were just heading downstairs for some breakfast. Most of the place is still asleep. Oh--and if you want your clothing, you should try the boys' Prefect bathroom. I heard a lot of the party moved in there after the Hall. See you two later!" The two of them passed by and headed for the stairs, still giggling and glancing back.
Draco looked ready to faint. "Just kill me now. Please."
So apparently the two of them had been quite the floor show at the party. Harry sighed. "Well, we'd better get dressed and see how bad it was," he said, taking Draco's hand because otherwise he was afraid the young man would bolt. Harry needed to learn more, to figure out everything they had missed. And he needed Draco with him, for reasons he didn't really want to scrutinize too closely, at least yet. He just wanted Draco to be with him.
The two of them wasted no more time but hurried over to the 5th floor Prefect's bathroom. As they neared the room, they began seeing signs of the party that Pavarti had mentioned--strewn cups from the spiked mango punch, streamers and decorations from the Great Hall, and water, all over the floor. There was a scorched plastic doll in the remains of what must have been some kind of Incendio spell. They glanced at each other before opening the door, afraid what they would find.
The flamingos were the first thing that Harry noticed--five of them, perched around the enormous bathtub, preening themselves and looking ridiculous. Clothes were strewn all over the room, and there were actually a few owners of the clothing there as well, passed out in various positions on the floor, one holding a bottle of something--champagne, Harry realized. It was Susan Bones. Beside her was the remains of what had been a chandelier from one of the common rooms. Along one wall, Harry also found Dean Thomas, sprawled naked with Diane Carter, Natalie Fairbourne, and Pansy Parkinson, limbs all entangled. Harry raised an eyebrow at Draco. "At least we're not the only ones who had fun last night," he whispered. It must have been one hell of a party.
Draco snorted, saying nothing, and the two of them began looking for their things, until Harry spotted his wand poking out of a trouser pocket in one corner, along with Slytherin attire--Draco's presumably. Their clothes and the entire room were covered in glitter. One mystery explained, at least. Harry began sorting through the pile, and he couldn't help but notice his and Draco's things were thoroughly mixed together--he handed Draco a green tie, received a black sock in exchange, and had to disentangle their white shirts. Three buttons were missing on Draco's. Harry wasn't sure if he should apologize for that.
They dressed quickly, not speaking, and though they both looked wrinkled and unkempt afterwards, at least they were dressed. Draco still looked thoroughly debauched, and Harry couldn't help but sneak looks at him. He looked unbelievably sexy. Draco glared at him, patting at his tangled hair. "What?" He demanded, taking a step backwards.
"I--" Harry swallowed. It probably wasn't a good thing that he was feeling seriously tempted to rip Draco's clothes off again. "You look good, actually." He flushed, pocketing his wand.
"I'm a wreck," Draco said in a low voice, but he seemed oddly pleased, as he slipped into his shoes. "And I'm hungry."
They both paused as Dean murmured in his sleep, rubbing his nose before settling once more. Harry waved for Draco to follow, and led him out of the bathroom into the hallway. "We might as well head down to the Great Hall. There's food there, for one." His stomach gave a supportive growl.
A look of wariness and fear came over Draco before he had a chance to mask it. "There'll be people awake down there, I'd wager."
Harry nodded, and put a hand on Draco's shoulder, afraid that he'd run again. "Probably. But don't you think it would be better if we just faced things and got it over with? It seems pretty obvious that people saw things. We can't just hide for the rest of our lives--at least, I can't." Harry looked into Draco's eyes, recognizing the fear there, the uncertainty. "I don't think you need to either." It seemed important to get things out now, before things became crazy, before he lost his chance. "I'd really prefer if you were with me."
Draco opened his mouth to speak, to spout off a retort, most likely, his eyes intent on Harry. After a few seconds, however, he closed his mouth. He sighed. "Let's get it over with, then."
As they were crossing past the main entrance to the castle, feeling much better now that they were both fully clothed, Harry caught sight of Luna. She was wandering in from outside, leaves in her hair as if she'd fallen asleep under a bush. He pulled at Draco's sleeve, forcing him to stop, as Luna waved. Harry chuckled. "Did you get to see a moon frog?" At least it was nearly summer and not terribly cold outside.
Luna shook her head dreamily. "Sadly, no. But I did get to see several students running naked through the grounds. It was really quite entertaining."
Harry laughed. It was good to know that at least Luna was still the same.
Luna smiled and nodded at Draco. "Hello, Draco. Oh--and congratulations, to the two of you."
Draco stared at her. "Excuse me?" Harry could feel him drawing closer, again trying to hide.
"Oh, that the two of you are dating, that's what I mean. I think it's lovely--I mean with Draco being a Gemini and all and you a Leo, Harry--air and fire, quite inflammatory, perhaps not entirely stable, but definitely interesting. I think it would actually be good for both of you." Luna rocked on her heels, with that strange look of enigmatic wisdom on her face.
Draco sputtered. "Wha--I don't get you. You were tortured and locked away in my house! How can you possibly be all right about this?" He looked ragged and worn down, and Harry was struck by how often he'd looked that way this year, how utterly hopeless he'd looked. It was just so completely different than the old Draco Malfoy. And it wasn't exactly that he wanted a return of that spoiled, rotten, mean little brat. But a little of that old snark together with some of his newly found humility? Now that was a different story.
Luna blinked at him, cocking her head to one side. "I forgave you for that a long time ago, Draco. After all, it wasn't your fault." She smiled. "You should really let yourself move past things. You'd be surprised how many of us already have."
Draco stared at her but said nothing, and even Harry could tell that it was making him think. Luna came closer and patted both of their arms, and then headed towards the stairs. "I think I need to get some sleep now. See you both later!"
"See you!" Harry called, feeling a little more hopeful about things.
Draco shook his head, looking mystified. "She is the strangest girl I have ever met."
Harry grinned. "Yeah. Isn't she great? It's funny the stuff she picks out, though. She's a good friend."
It was interesting that Draco didn't even roll his eyes, but watched her leave, still deep in thought. Harry took his hand again. "You said you were hungry, and so am I. Let's do this." He could already hear voices in the Great Hall. At least some people were awake, it seemed.
Resolutely, the two of them strode into the Hall hand in hand. They stopped at the sound of applause—from all over the room. Harry could feel the pull of Draco's hand as he took a step back to retreat, but Harry just smiled and forced Draco to come with him, heading over to the Gryffindor table to where Ron and Hermione were sitting. Even Ron was cheering them. Harry sat down and looked pointedly at Draco until he sat down as well. Ron was grinning.
"So?" Harry asked. Hermione was eating her oatmeal with brown sugar and appeared to have chosen ginger ale to drink this morning, but there was a faint smile playing at her lips. At least Harry didn't see any red spots on Ron's face from being slapped.
In fact, Ron seemed to be glowing. He chuckled, giving Harry a thumbs up. Hermione slapped his arm. "You are not to give details," she told him.
Harry laughed. "Well it's about time, you two." He heard his name called from somewhere and waved at some of the Gryffindor girls seated a ways down from them, plus Hannah Abbott, who was looking a lot more mussed than usual. Padma and Pavarti were with her.
"About time for us? Really, Harry, it took you this long to realize things?" Hermione asked, indicating Draco seated next to Harry. "I heard it was quite a show last night."
Harry couldn't help blushing. "Yeah, so I heard—the bad thing is, we don't even remember most of it."
Ron made a face. "Oh that's bollocks!" He looked apologetically at Hermione.
Harry was about to reply, when he saw Seamus and Neville enter the Hall, wearing the same clothes from the night before and about in a similar state as Harry's and Draco's—minus the glitter. Surprisingly, however, before they came over to sit down, Neville went over to Hannah and with a shy smile, kissed her on the cheek, offering her an arm. The three of them came over to sit with Ron and Hermione, with Neville in the middle and the three of them looking like they'd had far too much fun last night. Harry raised his eyebrows at Neville.
"Hee," Neville said, grinning and blushing as he grabbed for a Danish.
"Are we eating sometime today?" Draco muttered under his breath. He reached over and grabbed a peach, taking a big bite out of it, and for a moment Harry was caught by the sight of juice spilling down his chin and trickling down his arm. Draco caught him looking and flushed, slowly bringing his hand up to his mouth to lick off the juice. It wasn't until a grape bounced off his ear that Harry realized Seamus was calling to him.
"Blimey, you two have it bad. So do you remember much of anything?" Seamus was sitting a lot closer to Neville than he usually did, Harry noted, with a hand even resting on Neville's knee. Meanwhile, Hannah was feeding Neville some grapes one at a time.
Draco glared at Seamus. "No, thanks to you. Remind me to never play an Irish drinking game again. I should have known better." And yet for all that, he scooted closer to Harry.
"Do you two remember anything after that last shot?" Harry asked them.
Seamus shook his head, looking apologetic. "I really didn't think it would be that literal. Shame too. Neville and I found out we're bisexual!"
Neville spat out a grape, horrified. "Seamus! He hurried to add, "I still want to get married and have kids." Hannah smiled at him.
Harry had no idea whether to laugh at the three of them or what. Seamus shrugged at Neville, and carried on. "I don't think I want to get married, definitely not right away at least. You know, this opens up a whole new world for me. Imagine the trouble I could get into!"
"Merlin help us," Draco quipped quietly.
Harry reached over for some bacon and a soft-boiled egg, needing something to quell the growling of his stomach and began eating, feeling oddly at peace about things. He still couldn't believe Ron was taking the news so well. "I guess this explains why Ginny and me weren't working out. I'm sorry—I just never—it just never—" He blew out a breath, trying again. "I just figured I didn't feel things like other people did." A horrible thought came to him. Had Draco even liked it? And who had done what? He wasn't sore anywhere, so he was pretty sure he knew which role he'd taken. He glanced over, wondering how to ask that in front of everyone.
This time Draco did roll his eyes. "I knew when I was twelve, Potter. But then I always was sharper than you."
Seamus reached for some bacon as well. "So, are the rumors true? Are the two of you seeing each other now?" He regarded Draco. "You know, you're actually all right. You used to be a ponce. But you've gotten better."
Harry could feel Draco tensing up beside him, but whether it was because of being called a 'ponce' or waiting for Harry to respond to Seamus, he wasn't sure. And what was his answer going to be? "I—well we just sort of fell into this . . . mostly this morning has been just about trying to remember things. But . . ." He looked at Draco. Did he want that? Did Draco?
Draco was staring back at him, giving him nothing to go by, and Harry was aware of precious seconds ticking by. If he hesitated too long, it would look like he didn't want to, he knew. And how did he feel? He wanted to, he'd decided. He wanted to do last night again and actually remember it this time. It might not work, of course. But what if it did?
"Yeah, maybe. Draco?" Harry asked, holding his breath.
Draco flushed, his eyes flicking over to Seamus, Ron, everyone. He seemed to war with himself, flushing under the weight of everyone looking at him. "I--" he started to say, and then he scowled, two bright spots appearing on his pale cheeks. "I'm not having this conversation here," he finally growled, and suddenly stood up, walking quickly towards the exit. Oh shit, Harry thought. If Draco left now, it was likely this would never happen again.
"Well?" Seamus said through a bite of bacon as Harry stared after where Draco had gone, his heart pounding. "Go get him!"
"Sorry!" Harry told them, and then he was leaving his seat, hurrying after Draco, just hoping to catch him before he could reach his dormitory in the dungeons.
He managed to catch Draco in the entranceway to the dungeons, at the mouth of a dark corridor, and heedless of consequences, grabbed Draco's arm, turning him around. "Wait! Please wait. I do want to have this conversation with you--wherever is best for you." Harry had to stop to catch his breath.
Draco was trembling and there was a storm of emotions on his face. He pulled away at Harry's grasp, but not very hard, Harry noted. "I can't do this. I just can't sit there and pretend everything's fine, and that we're all going to get along and that everything is just going to be bloody peachy from here on out!"
Harry blinked in surprise, because that wasn't what he had expected at all. "Well of course not everything is going to be peachy. You and I are probably going to argue a lot, there's probably going to be differences between Ron and Hermione and you, especially if you start talking about purebloods, and society is still probably going to have problems with you because of your family and your past. The world's not suddenly going to be perfect." Harry sighed, and he actually let himself look into Draco's eyes, because one thing he had not forgotten was how that first kiss had felt. "I just--even though I don't remember everything from last night, I remember enough that I'd like to know more. I'd like to know you more." He really couldn't put it any simpler than that.
Draco took several deep breaths, looking down at the ground, deep in thought. "I don't like not remembering things. I don't like being paraded around and being a public spectacle." He paused, glancing at Harry as if debating.
"Ok," Harry responded, nodding--at least they seemed to be getting somewhere. "Sorry about that--that definitely was not my plan." He winced. "I'll be honest. I'm always a public spectacle, wherever I go, and I doubt that's going to change any time soon. But I'll try not to put you in embarrassing situations on purpose--like snogging in the Great Hall in front of a bunch of people. Fair enough?"
That received a slow shrug, though Draco didn't look up. Harry figured that every moment Draco didn't run away was another step closer to . . . something. He wasn't sure what. But it was definitely something. Draco gave a harsh chuckle. "You are such an idiot, Potter. You don't even know, do you."
"Know what?"
Draco rolled his eyes, and this time he did look at Harry. "That I've fancied you for years." He smirked, and it was a painful smirk, one that hit Harry in the chest. Well it was really no surprise that he was clueless about some things, and this was definitely one of them.
"Oh," Harry said, not sure what to say about that.
"Yeah," Draco continued, "And then I hated you, and I was afraid of you, and then I was just afraid of everybody and everything. I don't even know what I'm going to do tomorrow." He sighed in frustration. "And I also don't know how this could bloody work. You think I'm an evil plotting bastard--you scarred me when you hexed me--how is that supposed to just be forgotten?"
It was funny, because even though the words Draco was saying made sense, Harry found himself more entranced by the flush in Draco's cheeks and the way his mouth moved than the words he was saying. He found himself leaning closer for no other reason than he just wanted to be closer to Draco. "I'm sorry--about hexing you. I shouldn't have done it, especially not knowing what the spell did. But I also remember that you didn't give me away when they brought me to the Manor. Don't try to lie and say you didn't recognize me. I saw your eyes. You probably saved my life. And then I saved yours. And then you tried to save me again by distracting those Death Eaters." Harry licked his lips. He wasn't sure how much longer he was going to be able to carry on with this conversation. "So I think . . . at some point we just have to let it go. Move forward." There was still some peach juice at the corner of Draco's jaw. Harry reached up to rub at it with his thumb. "I know you've changed. We all have."
A shiver went through Draco, and he drew in a breath, shakily. He was staring at Harry helplessly.
Harry decided to plunge ahead. "A date. Maybe we could just start with a date?" To be honest, he wasn't sure if things would work out either--Draco's acid tongue might get tiresome in a week. But he couldn't deny the electricity between them at this moment.
Draco swallowed, and moved a little bit closer. "All right."
That little bit was too much for Harry, who had been trying to hold back, trying to be good. He closed the distance between them, pressing up against Draco, and it wasn't really any surprise this time to find that Draco was hard, his arousal matching Harry's own. "Or I guess we could just try shagging and see how that works out," Harry said breathlessly, as he closed the distance between their mouths.
He'd been wanting to do this all morning, so when their lips met, it was pure fire, feeling Draco's mouth opening up for him all over again, feeling that passion burn between them. There was no one to watch them this time, no drinking game, no alcohol to dull the senses. Harry moaned, pressing up hard against Draco and letting his hands roam as well, up and down Draco's arms, his back, then his chest, as their mouths dueled, nipping at each other's lips.
A thought came to him. "We're not going to be able to take things slowly, are we?"
Draco's answer was honest enough; he made a frustrated noise and kissed Harry harder, hands reaching down to squeeze Harry's arse. The feel of that had an unexpected effect on Harry; he found himself arching and thrusting up against Draco, unable to help himself. He remembered the missing buttons on Draco's shirt, and slid a hand in to caress Draco's chest, flicking a nipple. Draco shuddered.
"I want a bed this time," Draco said with difficulty, giving Harry a glare whose heat was entirely different than the anger earlier. "And I want some bloody lube. I'm fucking sore from last night."
That made Harry pause and he felt his cheeks heating up. "Oh. Sorry," he said, because really, what else did someone say to that? His mind whirled trying to think—his room in the Gryffindor dorms was so far away. Draco grabbed his hand and pulled, leading him.
"Come on," Draco said, his voice rough and urgent, leading them down deeper into the dungeons. "My room. Just—don't say anything in the common room, if anyone's there. Not unless I tell you to."
They reached a gargoyle and Draco gave it a password that Harry knew he'd never be able to remember. In the common room there were only a couple of sixth and seventh years, who watched them with looks of shock as Draco led Harry towards his room. Harry had the uncomfortable realization of how Draco must have felt at the Gryffindor table.
Draco growled at one boy who looked like he was going to say something, and then he was pulling Harry into his room and closing the door. There were two beds, but the second one was vacant.
Harry stared at the bed, swallowing as the full impact of what they were doing hit him, but before he could dwell much on it, Draco was closing the distance between them again, taking the lead this time as he cupped Harry's chin. Harry couldn't help the fact that his heart was beating wildly. Draco narrowed his eyes at him. "Don't tell me you're chickening out."
"No," Harry said immediately. He closed the distance, kissing Draco once more, and was impressed by the fact that it wasn't getting old at all; in fact, the more they kissed, the more he wanted to, and do other things as well. He thought about how Draco's hands on his arse had felt, and returned the gesture, smiling into the kiss as Draco thrust up against him, exulting in how fit an arse Draco had.
"Bed," Draco panted, bending to remove his shoes. Harry removed his as well, watching as Draco laid down, half open shirt revealing marks he'd left earlier. He looked delectable, and Harry couldn't get there fast enough, partly tripping over his own feet and landing on top of Draco. Before Draco could protest, however, Harry was kissing him again, being careful this time with the rest of the buttons on Draco's shirt, releasing them to reveal more and more pale skin. To one side, Harry found the scars from the Sectumsempra, but they were white and faded.
As Harry ran his hands over Draco's chest, Draco sighed, arching into the touches. "Harry," he said breathlessly, reaching up to pull at Harry's clothing as well, pulling off his tie and jacket. Harry wanted to help, but he also wanted to touch more of Draco, see what he'd mostly missed last night and this morning. He pressed against the waistline of Draco's trousers, forcing them down over his hips as Draco worked to get Harry's shirt off. "Merlin's balls, Potter. Have a little patience," Draco whined, as Harry bent his head to run his tongue over Draco's hipbone.
That just wasn't going to happen, Harry decided as he finally allowed Draco to pull his shirt off all the way. Once they were both shirtless, Harry began to work on Draco's trousers, releasing the fly and pulling them down hard, along with Draco's briefs. Draco gasped as Harry ran a hand up his length, feeling the skin there stretched taut, wrapping his fingers around Draco's cock to see just how hard he was.
Harry stroked Draco a couple times, experimentally, and was rewarded by more gasps and sighs as Draco lay back against the pillows, letting Harry take charge of things. Harry was fascinated by the differences--it was definitely not like touching himself, and he couldn't help but play a little, pushing the foreskin back, noting the differences. Draco's cock was gorgeous, pink along the length and red at the head, and Harry was tempted to put his mouth to it. But he wasn't quite ready for that. So he settled for stroking it, watching at Draco slowly became undone, hands gripping the sheets, moaning against the pillow. "Harry," Draco said, and Harry decided he liked hearing his first name from Draco's lips.
He also wanted to feel what he had felt this morning--his skin, rubbing up against Draco's, lying together naked. Harry pulled down his own trousers, leaving them in a pile on the floor, and covered Draco's body with his own. It was a shock, however, when he felt his cock brush against Draco's, and searing heat went through him. Harry groaned, thrusting instinctively.
Draco reached out, grabbing Harry's hips, steadying them. "Wait," he breathed against Harry's ear, and even that brush of sensation was enough to make Harry tremble. He was in danger of losing it if he thought too much about what they were doing, so he nodded, forcing himself to take slow even breaths,. It felt unbelievably good, just lying there together skin on skin.
"I'm waiting," Harry said in a low voice, holding still. Draco smiled at him, and slid his hands up and down Harry's back, which Harry had to admit really didn't encourage him as far as the whole waiting thing was concerned. Draco chuckled. "Before you go further--lube's in the drawer of the night table. One finger at first--you're prepping me in a proper fashion this time."
"Oh," Harry said, blushing. He'd forgotten all about lube in his explorations. Figuring it was best if he grabbed it now before he forgot again, Harry reached over to the drawer and pulled out a little glass jar. At Draco's nod, Harry opened it, sliding his finger along the inner rim. It was thick and very slippery, whatever it was.
Draco chuckled, and Harry was acutely aware of how silly he must look right now, not having the first clue about how to go about things. He winced, expecting one of Draco's sharp jibes, but instead Draco reached out, guiding Harry to dip two fingers into the goop, then guiding his hand down to Draco's arse. "You're making this too complicated, Potter." Draco closed the jar and set it aside. "Just . . . push in a finger. You'll see."
Harry held his breath, his finger poised at Draco's entrance, torn between thinking that this was so very wrong--and yet so exciting at the same time. Hadn't he already done this last night? It should be no big deal. He rubbed his finger there, and was encouraged by the low moan Draco released as he laid back down. Pushing in, Harry worked his way to the first knuckle, and then the second. Draco flinched a little. "Easy," he hissed. "Sore, remember?"
"Right," Harry said, reminding himself to be gentle. This felt so intimate, and he was amazed that they'd already crossed this line, done this and who knew what else? He pushed in deeper, and when he felt Draco's muscles clenching around him, his cock gave a hard twitch, the desire so sharp it made his vision grey out for a second or two.
"Wait," Draco said again, but he sounded strained, shuddering a little, his hand gripping at Harry's shoulder. He took a few breaths, and then the muscles relaxed, and before Harry knew what was happening, his finger was sinking in deeper. Draco gave a loud groan, his head falling back.
That was just gorgeous, Harry decided, and it seemed a natural thing to do, to just slowly fuck Draco with his finger, sliding almost all the way out then in again, slicking him up. Draco made mewling noises that only excited Harry further. He debated adding a second finger, but Draco squirmed away. "I'm good--I'm good now," he said, sounding desperate.
Harry needed no more urging. At Draco's gesturing, he slicked himself up as well, then he held himself over Draco on hands and knees, trying to figure out how to go about things, until Draco reached down and guided him, nodding as Harry began to push. "Just go easy," Draco said in a low voice, spreading his legs wider.
It was with a conscious effort to be gentle that Harry thrust inside, slowing again to allow Draco to get used to things, even though his body was screaming at him to thrust in deeper, harder. Draco hissed in pain again, short fingernails scratching at Harry's arms, and it was almost unbearably tight. But gradually things started to ease a bit, and Draco's soft panted breaths took on a different tone, and his hands were pulling at Harry instead of pushing, reaching down to dig into his arse, urging him deeper. Harry was only too happy to comply, and on the next thrust, he went deep, eliciting a cry from Draco.
"Gods, yes--deep and slow, just like that," Draco urged. Harry had a mind to tell him he was pretty bossy during sex, but then considering how little he knew about things, that was probably good.
It also felt just too good to be protesting much of anything. Each thrust sent waves of pleasure through Harry, and not just through his cock; it was heaven feeling Draco's body beneath him, watching the flush of passion creeping up Draco's neck to his cheeks and seeing the look of total blissful abandon on his face. Harry wanted it to last forever, but he had a feeling it would all be over far too quickly.
"Draco," he groaned on the next thrust in. Harry knew he wasn't going to be able to keep to the slow pace; already his hips were increasing the tempo just a little bit, muscles straining to hold back.
"Yes--go ahead," Draco responded, burying his face against Harry's shoulder, wrapping his legs around Harry so that he could move more freely. Harry began thrusting harder and faster, letting his body find the rhythm. Somehow it did feel familiar, and right. Draco's nails raked down his back, and Harry gave a cry, shuddering there, teetering on the edge.
"Touch me!" Draco cried, and grabbed Harry's hand, guiding it to his cock. Harry knew he was being clumsy, but it was obvious what needed to be done, and he stroked him hard and fast, feeling the shudders as they moved through Draco's body, until Draco was crying out loudly, coming over both their chests.
Harry felt the spasms go through Draco, and coupled to the knowledge that he was inducing such pleasure, Harry fell over the edge. With a roar, he came hard, thrusting in deep as his orgasm rocked through him until he thought he'd pass out. Afterwards he collapsed against Draco's chest, not caring that they were both sticky with come.
Draco didn't seem to mind. They both lay there for a moment, catching their breath and enjoying the afterglow. When Harry moved to pull out, Draco shook his head slightly, one hand on Harry's arse, wordlessly urging him to stay a little longer. Harry chuckled. Draco groaned, as an aftershock went through him. "Cripes. That's all I can say--" Harry began.
Draco stopped his babbling with a kiss.
They kissed languidly before stopping for a breath. Draco's eyes twinkled mischievously, and then he turned up his chin in an echo of his former snobbish self. "I suppose I'll consider a date with you, Potter. At least now you've made it right after last night."
Harry snorted. "So then I can officially say we're seeing each other?"
Draco was about to answer, when there was a knock at the door. They both looked at each other, then as a low voice murmured an "Alohamora," on the lock, Draco quickly pulled the blanket up over them, covering their nakedness but not their position.
Draco glared as Blaise entered the room, but Harry gaped Blaise's latest conquest on his arm. "Ginny!" Harry could feel himself blushing, but Ginny didn't even seem surprised.
"Wow, Harry. I heard about the two of you this morning, but still, wow," Ginny said with a grin, as Blaise left her side to pull out clothing from one of the bureaus. Harry noticed that his clothes were a bit rumpled, and contained traces of glitter. He wondered where the two of them had spent the night.
"I--" Harry began, not having a clue what to say.
Ginny shook her head, chuckling. "Hey. It's okay. At least we know now why things weren't working!" Blaise returned to her side with his pile of clean clothing. "Anyways, last night? Brilliant idea. See you around!" She blew a kiss at them, then she and Blaise headed out the door, laughing together at something.
"At least he waited until we were done," Draco said drily. Harry looked at Draco, and he shrugged. "Usually it was I walking in on Blaise and his conquests." Harry finally pulled out, and they both winced, feeling things starting to dry rather uncomfortably. "We're a mess." They both reached for wands, and quickly cleaned themselves up. Harry found a spot behind Draco on the narrow bed, rather reminiscent of how they'd woken up.
Now that the shock of seeing Ginny was wearing off, Harry had to laugh. "Well it's good to know people seem to be generally accepting of the whole thing. I have to admit one thing."
Draco looked over his shoulder at him. "What?"
Harry smiled. "If I had to do last night over again . . . I'd do it all again."
Draco's kiss was his agreement.
