Fred sat at the café table by himself. It was a big change. Ordinarily he was joined by George and Lee, but the pair were off planning some 'prank to end all pranks' that he had been pretending to listen to over the previous couple of weeks. It was most likely going to be impressive and cost them months of detention when they got back to Hogwarts, but Fred didn't really have anything to do with that side of things nowadays. His attention had been caught by someone. Since just after the beginning of his gap year to the Muggle world, he couldn't help but notice her. She had glorious orange shoulder length hair, the colour was not unalike his own, but to him it appeared more vibrant. Her eyes were the same intense midnight blue as Sapphires and sparkled just as brightly when she smiled. As he sat in silence for the next few minutes, absent-mindedly staring at that girl, who was sat with a few of her friends, he sighed. It had been three weeks since he realised his crush on her and every other day since then he had come to that same café in hope that she would be there. Luckily on most occasions she was. Fred wished he had the courage to go and talk to her, he was a Gryffindor after all, he was supposed to be brave... but how could he when she was a Muggle? He had never really interacted with Muggles. He didn't know how to act around them. While his internal conflict raged on, Joanna could feel someone’s eyes on her, so she turned to see who it was; at that same moment and they caught each others gaze. Mortified, he instantly dropped his eyes to the floor and when he looked up, she had left. Fred stood up, went to pay for his coffee then left himself. There was a shop in Camden he had been asked to investigate by his father. He only knew the name of it, no address or the name of the owner. Just the name. He took out the folded piece of parchment from his pocket.
'The Dark Tower,' he put it back and turned onto Camden high street.
It was full of anxious shoppers. To some extent it reminded him of Diagon alley just before the start of a new school year. Everyone aflutter to get the things they want or need. As he walked down towards to Lock he kept a look out for the shop. Then out of the corner of his eye he spotted a sign that read TDT.
'Worth a shot,' he said to himself.
He softly opened the door and as the Dragons blood aroma hit him, Fred knew he was in the right place.
The place was covered on every wall from floor to ceiling in shelves that held various ornaments, scrolls, books, potion vials and many other miscellaneous items. Fred was about to pick up a dusty, moth-eaten book when he heard someone behind him tut. He turned to investigate who obviously didn't appreciate him being there and saw a frail looking woman behind the counter.
'Can I help you?' she asked him with an obvious disdain.
Fred shook his head, 'no thanks I'm just looking.' But what was he looking for? He had no idea. His father hadn't given him anything specific to look for all he had said was to investigate. The old woman kept eye-balling him and tutting for the entirety of his browsing. Feeling quite put out by the shear disregard for manners that this elderly witch had, Fred left. The brightness of Camden's high street almost blinded him when he stepped out compared with the dingy, dark hell hole he had just come from. While trying to regain his composure, a flyer was thrust into his hand by a passing Muggle dressed in some very strange clothing. Fred glanced down to read it:

He turned over to see if there was a picture of this 'Strawberry Cyanide' girl and he almost had a heart attack when he saw his café girl staring back at him. She looked so different. Her make up was dark and heavily applied, her clothing was reminiscent of something he thought Bellatrix Lestrange would wear. She was pictured leaning against a graffiti backdrop, wearing a black leather corset held together by buckles. This led into a floor length black net skirt of which one side was lifted to reveal metal cover knee high boots. The whole outfit and persona of her intrigued him. Fred made his way through the crowded streets and back to his little flat that he had rented to get ready for the night ahead.

By the time he had got dressed and actually found the venue, there was a long queue outside. One by one the bouncers checked each persons id and either let them in or turfed them back out onto the street. Fred was thankful that his father was able to get him a Muggle driving license that stated he was 19. He needed to get into that place.
'Got id mate?' one of the huge men asked him.
Fred took out the pink card and showed it to him.
'Alright go through,' the bouncer moved out of the way to let him through the entrance. He looked around and saw a sign pointing to some stairs that led down to the basement. 'Strawberry Cyanide gig this way.'
Fred followed the directions until he walked out into a very crowded basement.
There was already a group forming in front of the stage and it was at this point he decided if he ever wanted to get a proper view he had to get to the front.
Fred wasn't stupid, he knew that it wouldn't be easy... for other people. They didn't have a wand at their disposal. He discreetly took it out and moved people out of the way so he could slyly slip his way to the front and positioned himself directly in front of the microphone.
After about half an hour, the basement went completely dark, and the crowd cheered. The support act were on stage when the lights came up. They started with a rippling guitar riff and kept the crowd going right till the final note of their thirty minute set. As the lights dimmed when the final member left the stage, the excitement in the room grew. A few of the crowd started chanting, before long the whole audience was calling out for her to come on stage.
They didn't have to wait long. It was merely minutes before the band started and a single spotlight shone down onto his Gothic angel. Dressed head to toe in black leather.
Joanna opened her mouth to sing and a wave of silence came upon the crowd as the first lyrics were sung.
As the song finished and the crowed cheered, Fred caught Joanna's eye and she flashed him a quick smile.
'How you doing Camden underworld?!' She cried into the microphone.
She smiled before she announced the next song. The atmosphere was electric. She really knew how to work the crowd up and get them energized.
'Woah! Guy your really working it tonight! Now I need a guy up on stage with me and I know who I'm gonna pick' she scanned the front row and pointed to Fred. 'You, come on. Get up here.' Joanna held out her hand and Fred took it. As he did he could have sworn his heart beat tripled for a few seconds.
Joanna guided him to sit on one of the amps that was in front of the drum kit.
'Okay guys this is the final song of the night and I'm gonna dedicate it to...' She held out the microphone for Fred to speak into. 'Fred.' Joanna turned to the crowd and winked. 'Ok guys this is Spell.'
Joanna took Fred's hand and wrapped it around her waist as she sat in his lap with her face only inches away from his. From the moment the song began the two never broke eye contact.
At times the nights seemed so long; I thought my tears would never dry
Until your heart spoke to mine a thousand words that erased that cold hearted goodbyes.
It’s as if you were cut right out of a spell cast upon my heart,
You’ve changed my world with magic & the kindness that you gave.
Special moments speak a thousand words to which no price can be met.
You sweep a spell across my heart, like a breeze across the sea,
You’re in every breath I take & in every tear I cry,
You’re in every star I wish upon up in the dark black
sky.
A million magical moments sent to give you all my love.
I thank Aphrodite for that special day she blessed my heart with you.
Fate, destiny, or magic may be the reason we met, But all I know is with you
I’ll never forget, Until the day I found you I never knew a love so true.
It’s as if you were cut right out of a spell cast upon my heart,
You’ve changed my world with magic & the kindness that you gave.
Special moments speak a thousand words to which no price can be met.
You sweep a spell across my heart, like a breeze across the sea,
You’re in every breath I take & in every tear I cry,
You’re in every star I wish upon up in the dark black
sky.
The lights went out and the crowed cheered. Fred felt Joanna move off of his lap and wherever she was going, she was taking him with her. The pair ran off the stage and went straight to her dressing room. The cheering crowd could still be heard as Joanna shut the door behind them.
'So, your the guy who I keep seeing at that café?' She smiled.
Fred nodded. 'Yeah, it's a nice place. Fantastic... umm...' His brain froze on him. What was the Muggle word he was looking for? Joanna interjected. 'Coffee?' She had a look of sarcasm written all over her face. Fred laughed. 'Yeah that.'
'And for a moment there I thought you were going there so often to see me,' she said smiling.
Fred was taken aback by her brutal honesty. Should he come clean and tell her the truth that he found her fantastically beautiful? Or should he lie and laugh it off as a joke?
Then he remembered something his dad once told him that he had learned from work, some Muggle saying that was 'The truth will out.'
'Okay, yeah. It wasn't the coffee I went there for, it was you.'
A beaming smile came upon Joanna's face. No matter how hard she tried to hide it, it was still there.
'Well I didn't expect you to actually be there for that reason... I was joking.'
Fred's face dropped. Had he just made a big mistake?
Joanna put her finger under his chin and lifted his face so she was looking into his eyes.
'I didn't say it was a bad thing did I? I'm actually very flattered. Most guys just come up to me in a drunken state and ask me to sleep with them. It's not the most romantic of scenarios to be honest.'
Joanna made her way over to a mini bar that had been set up by her dressing table.
'Can I get you a drink, Fred? We've got Vodka, Rum, Bacardi, beer and coke...'
Fred didn't know what to say so just answered with Vodka.
'Straight or mixed?'
'Umm, mixed please.'
'One Vodka and coke coming up,' Joanna said as she reached for the bottles.
She passed Fred a glass with the drink in and as he took his first sip it made him pull the most absurd face. He had never tasted anything like it before.
It wasn’t an awful taste, it just really hit you when you first drank it. On the other hand, he didn't want to know what it tasted like on it's own.
Joanna saw his face and laughed.
'Have you never had vodka before or something?'
Fred shook his head. 'Can't say I have ever had the pleasure.'
'You are a strange one aren't you?' she giggled as she took a sip of her drink.
'So where are you from?'
'I live near a place called Ottery St Catchpole. It's in the south of the country. What about you?'
'Me? I'm from all over really. I travel a lot. don’t like being tied down to one place. That's kinda why I wanted to be a performer. I get to see the world and do something I love.'
Fred nodded. 'Seems logical to me.' He gulped down the last of his drink and set the glass on Joanna's dressing table next to the bottles.
There was a knock on the dressing room door.
'Joanna, we gotta go. You got a photo shoot in the morning! Get your arse in gear!'
Joanna sighed as she quickly grabbed hold of her belongings. 'Listen Fred, it's been amazing talking to you but I really have to go. Maybe I will see you around? Like at the café?'
Fred smiled. 'I'd say you might. It was nice meeting you Joanna.'
She flashed him a smile before she exited very quickly through the door.
A bouncer stood there staring at him for a few minutes before Fred realised he was waiting for him to leave. As he left the dressing room, Joanna ran back in and shoved a piece of paper into his hand before running straight back out of the backstage door. He looked down to see what it said but before he could read it he was getting pushed from behind by the same bouncer that had been standing outside the front entrance.
'Come on now mate, time to leave. Don’t make me have to chuck you the fuck outta here.'
Fred made a hasty exit. He didn't want to be drawing more attention to himself than was completely necessary. When he got outside the venue he took a few moments to compose himself and then started walking back to his flat.
Along the way, he replayed the nights events in his head. The way she had looked at him when she was singing that final song. The way her skin felt against his. 'Woah Fred, don't get ahead of yourself,' he thought. Before he even realised where he was, he had made it back home.
He looked around to check no one was looking and took out his wand.
'Alohomora.' The lock clicked, and Fred made his way inside. Kicking off his shoes, he made his way to his bedroom and flopped down onto his bed, taking out the note that Joanna had thrust into his possession before she ran off a second time. As his head hit the pillow he unfolded it.
'Hey, this is really strange but I have to there's just something about you.
My mobile number is below. Text me tomorrow ok?
Joanna xxxxx
Fred scratched his head. 'What's a mobile?' Whatever it was he would have to figure it out, and fast.
