Inspiration: Beg – Evans Blue
So, this story was thought up while sitting alone in my little room, screaming out my favorite Evans Blue song (mentioned one above). It occurred to me that a Harry-Sirius-Snape love triangle could actually be quite fun to write about! Anyway I hope I haven’t butchered the idea!
For all intents and purposes, Sirius and Snape are still alive :D This is Harry’s seventh year in Hogwarts, and Snape is still in the Potions Master position. Voldemort was indeed defeated all those years ago, and no threat remains.
Enjoy!
The man stretched himself out, black eyes staring out the window to the grounds below. He had so many papers he had to finish grading, but that could wait for the moment. He stood, his robes falling gently to the floor in a puddle of black before he swept to the window and pressed a hand up against the cold glass, staring out at the full moon that glittered over the Forbidden Forest. Severus sighed, rubbing his eyes tiredly before finding his seat at the cluttered desk once more. It seemed like the mid-year examinations would never end! Picking up his quill, Severus licked his finger and turned over to the next parchment, his eyes seeking out the name adorning the top of the page, scrawled in messy writing. Harry Potter. Severus clucked his tongue but went to work all the same, his quill scratching large red crosses onto the paper as he skimmed over the useless answers. All gibberish, he realized as he read out the last question, and the boy’s answer.
“What is the exact nature of the effects of a Love Potion?” to which the scrawled answer replied, “A pink potion which makes the women love you. Didn’t work, obviously.”
Severus allowed himself a small chuckle at the boy’s reply before placing another large red cross over the answer and penning the words “Nice try. F.” Before putting the parchment aside and continuing on with the other students’ work. Time slowly ticked by before at last the professor looked up at the clock and moaned. It was half past one in the morning. Severus slumped to his desk and lay there, staring out the window for a moment as he contemplated whether or not time would be better spent here or in his proper bed. Severus opted for the latter and stood, shedding the outer robe before sweeping into the adjoining room, hidden behind his case full of potion ingredients.
Climbing beneath the sheets Severus lay still, staring at the ceiling. It soon became apparent to the man that sleep was just not an option right now. With that decision made, Severus made his way over to the fireplace and picked up a handful of Floo powder and threw it into the fire.
“S-sirius?” He whispered into the green flames. Severus yelped and fell backwards as a shaggy head emerged from the flames adorned with a wide knowing smile.
“Snivellus?” Came the man’s reply as he slowly climbed onto the hearth only to be engulfed by black flowing robes and strong, needy arms. Sirius chuckled and held the man back, his long fingers stroking greasy black hair. Severus pulled the man over to the single bed and made him sit before sitting himself, crossing his long legs in front of him. “What did you need?” Sirius asked, his fingers playing with the hem of Severus’ robes.
“I’ve been marking papers all night. Even your pathetic godson failed.” In reply, Severus received a nasty glare from the Animagus. “Alright, alright I concede. He’s just ridiculous. Better?” Sirius just tilted his head, his expression remaining the same. Rolling his eyes, Severus stood to retrieve the paper and handed it to Sirius. Silence ensued until the last question was read, at which Sirius collapsed into a fit of laughter, clutching his stomach as his eyes became teary.
“Definitely didn’t work on the ladies!” He cried, falling backwards onto the black velvety covers. Severus snatched the paper back from Sirius, sending it to his desk with a wave of his wand. “I have no idea why he would think you had no one.” Sirius said, his laughter finally subsiding. “Unless you don’t wear that ring I gave you anymore?” Severus grinned, waving his wand once more and the two watched as a silver band appeared on the pale finger for the professor to flash in front of his lover’s face.
“I don’t wear it in front of the children.” Severus shrugged. “It feels unnatural you know?” Sirius shook his head sadly, fixing Severus with an angry stare.
“It isn’t unnatural. Love is love, nothing else matters. Even Dumbledore was alright with it.” Severus laughed out loud at this. “Sev…” Sirius groaned, standing to embrace his lover. “Honestly, like they would realize, or even know what that ring is a symbol of exactly.” Severus just grunted his agreement before pulling the smaller man down onto the single bed, snuggling up around him, his face burying into the crook of Sirius’ neck.
“I hope you’re damned well right.” The Potions Master growled.
“Earth to Harry Potter! Mate, what’s up with you?” Ron whined, shoving Harry in the shoulder. The bespectacled boy looked up, fixing the red head with a bored stare.
“Didn’t you see it? Didn’t you see him? Bold as freakin’ brass. God, I have no luck!” Harry punched the tree angrily before withdrawing and dropping into a squat, burying his face in his hands. “Stupid, stupid stupid.” Each word punctuated with a hit to his head. Ron frowned and pulled the hands away from his friend’s face before pulling him upright.
“Are you talking about Snape again?” Ron asked, his voice dripping with boredom and annoyance. He had heard about the Potions Master over and over again in the last couple of days, ever since his best friend had announced he was gay and head over heels for the man. Pinching the bridge of his nose Ron looked up to Hermione for help who shrugged lightly.
“Harry?” She said in the sweetest tone she could, “What is it exactly that you mean?” Hermione rested her hand on Harry’s shoulder, offering a warm comforting smile. Harry glanced up at the curly haired girl, letting his gaze travel from her face to take in the Transfiguration Courtyard.
“It means that Snape is taken. Didn’t you two see that ring on his finger?” Both Hermione and Ron shook their heads, watching Harry questioningly. “Well he had this silver band on his finger.” Harry moaned, pointing to his left ring finger. “It looked pretty damn real to me, not just for show and tell. I probably pissed him off with that last question.” Ron gave Harry a serious stare before bursting into laughter.
“Don’t tell me you seriously wrote down that answer? No way!” He cackled, slapping Harry enthusiastically on the back. His laughter only subsided when Hermione finally slapped him across the back of his head.
“What Ron means to say is, we thought that was a joke, Harry!” She stared at him, her eyes wide with shock. “We seriously didn’t think you would put that down as your answer. You’ve probably completely failed!” Hermione fretted, pacing back and forth, her hands tangling anxiously in her hair. “And after all that work I put in…” The girl collapsed onto the stone seat, her head buried in her hands. Patting Hermione absently, Ron shook his head.
“Seriously, mate. We were convinced you were going to actually attempt that question! It was probably the only one any of us got right, seeing as the git told us the question and answer before the exam!” Harry groaned again and stood, slapping Ron’s arm half heartedly.
“I honestly thought there was a chance. Anyway, I’m going to dinner.” Harry shrugged before heading off to the Great Hall to attend the evening feast.
Sitting at the Gryffindor table, Harry allowed himself to take in the spread of foods in front of him. Licking his lips, Harry’s attention turned to the Teacher’s table, where the form of his Potions professor was nowhere to be seen. Forcing the thought from his mind Harry shrugged, focusing on the food once more. It’s alright, some kid probably got detention or something. Harry rubbed at his eyes before returning his gaze to the food and piling his plate high with the delicious food presented to him.
Later, when his belly was full and he was thoroughly satisfied, the Gryffindor returned to his room and collapsed onto his bed. “Goodnight, Harry.” Ron mumbled from somewhere behind his scarlet curtains. Harry responded tiredly, rolling over and fixing his gaze in a fold in his own curtains. Fingers reached out to caress the material as he thought over the events of the past day. Surely Snape had only used that ring to prove to Harry that he was wrong. Of course, that was it. Severus was upset with him for pointing out something so obvious, and the ring was just his retaliation! A smile drifted onto Harry’s face and he rolled over, falling peacefully asleep.
