~Number 4 Privet Drive~
Harry Potter and his friends were watching movies at the Dursley's house. His family had left, saying they would be back in a week, and he had invited both of them over for a movie night. He was supposed to be leaving on his birthday to go to the Burrow, but for now was stuck here doing chores so the break was welcomed.
“I'm going to go get some more popcorn. You guys want anything?” he asked standing up.
“Nah mate. You go ahead” Ron called, stuffing some chips in his mouth and laughing at the movie, “Harry where did you get this movie?”
“I found it in the stash of movies Dudley had upstairs. I was surprised he had any new ones. I was thinking we were going to be stuck watching Tremors or something” he called back as he stepped into the kitchen.
“Ron I'm going to get more juice. I'll be right back” Hermione said and walked in to find Harry standing at the sink, staring outside, “Harry, I know you're still upset about Sirius, but there's something else isn't there?”
“The prophecy said 'and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives' Hermione. It's basically telling me that either I have to kill him or I'll die” he said quietly, turning to look at her.
“Harry we won't let that happen. You will defeat him. You just need to train more, get your head on straight and you'll be able to do anything you want.”
“Thanks 'Mione. I just get a sense of dread...you know? Like something is coming and its something that will change everything.” he said looking up at the clock and noticing it was a little after midnight.
“I know what you mean Harry. My grandmother called my mum the other day and told her that I needed to be careful while I was here. That there was something going to happen and I needed to be prepared to face the consequences. I didn't know until about a year ago that my grandmother is actually a seer. It explains why me and Trelawney don't get along. The trait was passed onto me but I don't ever have any visions. Not any that I notice anyway.”
“You think what she said has anything to do with Voldemort?” he asked but she shook her head.
“No, she said something about a guy being cute. I don't know what she was talking about.”
“Wait, your grandmother mentioned a guy? Maybe she found your prince charming.” he replied and she laughed.
“She said and I'm quoting this, 'Hermione needs to be careful at her friends. The young man I'm seeing is very cute, but he is also dangerous. There's already bad blood between them. She'll need to listen to him, hear his story, and then listen to the witch as well when she arrives. Give him space, but be fair to him. He must decide on his own to turn his back, otherwise Voldemort will win.' I honestly don't know what she meant when she said it Harry.”
“Think she meant one of us?” he said with a grin.
“Harry I am sure my grandmother would have mentioned you or Ron had it meant you two. Not to mention she stated there was bad blood between us. It has to be someone we will not like showing up. I think we're going to get a visitor of some kind,” She said just before the floo came to life and someone came crashing through it while Hermione muttered, “Do I always have to be right?”
~Malfoy Manor @ Midnight~
Screams of pain resonated down the hall of Malfoy Manor as a young man inside his room turned seventeen. Lucius and Narcissa bolted out of bed upon hearing his screams, rushing to his room with wands drawn to find him writhing on the bed, blood soaking into the sheets below him. They watched as his back split open and his bones stretched before their eyes. After about a minute they noticed his body seize up and he fell back onto the covers whimpering and wincing in pain. Narcissa rushed over to Draco as his father glared from the door. She knew this was going to possibly happen. She checked on him before looking over and noticing Lucius was still glaring.
“So he did inherit his creature traits?” He scowled and she nodded, “You told me the chances were nearly impossible Narcissa. He is of no use to the Dark Lord now!”
“Lucius he is still your son. You knew there was a chance for this to happen long ago!” she said looking back at her husband, who growled under his breath and walked away, before staring down at her son who had tears in his eyes, “It will be alright Dragon. I'm going to call your godmother to come look at you and then you can go back to sleep.”
“Father is angry with me Mother. I'm nothing but a failure to him-”
“Don't say that Draco. You mean everything to him. You know he cares for you regardless of how he shows it. He is just upset at the moment” She said cutting him off, “Let me summon her.”
Draco nodded and watched as his mother walked over to the fireplace to floo his godmother, Alexandria. Alexandria Kruss was a long time friend of the family, her father having been friends with Draco's grandfather Cygnus. She also had been friends with his mother and the two had been very close during their time at Hogwarts. She was his tutor and taught him everything from Occlumency to defensive spells. She knew much more about creature and magical inheritances than his mother and father combined, and would know what needed to be done to help him at Hogwarts upon his return. Draco slowly stood up and walked over to his full length mirror before turning around and looking at his back, gasping at the sight before him. His back was still bleeding, not as badly as before, and there was a red, inch wide but few inches long gash leading down his spine. He looked at his hair and such and noticed his hair had grown as well, which made him scowl. He really did hate his hair being long. He didn't like how his father had his hair so long and always kept his short now to make it more manageable.
“Wow, I am surprised with the changes I am seeing,” A deep Russian accent floated across the room and he smirked.
“Hello Alex” he said walking back over to the bed and sitting down slowly.
“Alright Draco, let's see what the damage is.” she said and walked over to sit next to him as he laid down on the bed, “Did a number on your back I am seeing. Let me heal that really fast and put a scar salve on it then we will see if there's anything else changed.”
“What happened exactly? I know I inherited my creature inheritance, but what creature exactly?
“Lets see” she said, healing the wounds before looking him over, “Longer hair, taller height, and your eyes are now sporting a slight bit more blue in them. I'd say Elf, because of the height, but it could also be veela.”
“My great grandmother was a fourth elf, and an eighth veela but we felt the veela line died out because of how small it was in the family line. No one inherited it for nearly 3 generations” Narcissa stated walking over to sit on the other side of the bed.
“Yes, but it was only dormant then. The blood never leaves the lines. It sits dormant until the magic is built enough to sustain it” she noticed Draco scowl at this, “Lucius was not happy I assume?”
They both shook their heads at her and she sighed, standing up, stating she wanted to talk to the elder Malfoy privately. Narcissa looked down at Draco and smiled before standing up and walking to the door. She stated she was going to go speak with his father as well and Draco nodded slowly standing up. He waited for her to leave before calling out to his house elf.
“Libby!” he said and the elf popped into the room, “Clean those sheets and bring me a pain potion.”
“Yes, Master Dragon. Right away sir!” the elf bowed down nearly to the ground before snapping its fingers and the sheets replaced themselves with brand new ones and a potion appeared on his bedside table.
Draco walked over to the table and grabbed the potion, uncorking and drinking it before placing it on the table again, where it vanished. He slowly climbed under the covers, careful not to lay on his back, before he heard yelling coming from the other room and a loud crash. He groaned and ignored the noise raising his wand to silence the room around him and block out the fighting. Just as he was about to dim the lights the door to his room slammed open and Alex came charging in, tears in her eyes, while she muttered in Russian under her breath.
“Accio trunk!” she yelled and his trunk came flying out of the nearby armoire.
“Alex what are you doing?!” he yelled as he noticed her start summoning all of his clothes and packing them into the trunk before shrinking it and grabbing his wand.
“You need to leave Draco. Your mother....ooh Merlin...I can't tell you here. You need to go!” she said shoving him into the fireplace along with his trunk and wand and grabbing some floo powder.
“What about my mother? Tell me!” he yelled but she didn’t say a word.
“I cannot tell you right now Draco. I'm sending you somewhere safe. Tell them everything. They will help you! I will tell you everything tomorrow when I arrive!” she yelled before throwing the powder into the fireplace and screaming “Number 4 Privet Drive, Little Winging, Surrey!”
As Draco stood up and dusted himself off he looked up to see three wands drawn at him, before his suddenly sped from his pocket into the hands of the girl glaring at him.
“Shit.”
The three Gryffindors immediately drew their wands upon seeing Malfoy landing in the room. Hermione noticed him not looking up as he placed his wand in his pocket and dusted himself off. Once he looked up though she silently summoned his wand and it flew into her hand.
“Shit” they heard him mutter before he backed up against the fireplace, hissing when his back hit the stones.
“What in the bloody hell are you doing here Malfoy?!” Ron yelled, his wand trembling in his hand.
“Yes Malfoy, please inform all of us how you found my address and are now standing in my muggle relative's home” Harry glared at him before quickly connecting two and two together, “No way!”
Ron looked at him briefly before turning back to watch Malfoy. Hermione however started linking things together as well.
“You don't think he's the one my grandmother was mentioning do you Harry?” Hermione asked looking over at him before staring back at the blond.
“Hermione, I think he is. You said she mentioned bad blood and listening to someone. Why would she say that unless she knew it was someone we had a problem with.”
“You're right Harry” she said slightly lowering her wand, “Ron lower your wand.”
“WHAT?! This is MALFOY! No way am I lowering my wand to that ferret!” the red head screeched.
“Ron quiet down! We're in a muggle neighborhood you idiot! If any of my neighbors heard you screaming we could get in major trouble with the Ministry!” Harry growled at him, “Besides, he doesn't have a wand since 'Mione summoned it.”
“I don't trust him Harry!” he scowled looking back at the blond, “How did you get the address for here anyway?!”
“Malfoy” Hermione said taking a couple steps forward and he turned to look at her, “Why are you here and how did you get the address?
“I don't know why I'm here. I was at the Manor, and a friend of the family shoved me into the floo before sending me here” he said quietly wrapping his arms around himself, just then noticing he still didnt have a shirt on.
“Harry get him a shirt please” she said and motioned for Malfoy to sit in the chair near him, noticing the slight red mark on his back, before figuring out what it was, “You inherited the veela and elf traits of the Black family didn't you?”
“How do you know anything about that?” he glared at her.
“I've done my part in researching many of the old families to learn more about them. Harry is heir to the Potter and Black fortunes through his grandfather and grandmother respectfully, so he has the right to know about it.”
“He isn't recognized by the family as being any part of the Black family line. Even if he is part of it because of Dorea Black marrying Charlus Potter” he scowled, “So it doesn't matter what your researching showed you Granger.”
“Regardless of my heritage, that doesn’t explain why you are here, so get on with it Malfoy. Why are you here?!” Harry growled at the blond.
“Like I said, I was at home, a friend of the family shoved me into the floo and then yelled the address “Number four Privet Drive, Little Winging, Surrey. Is this the address she said?”
“Yes it is, but I still question how she knew of this place. This house is under a Fidelius charm,” Harry said with a glare.
“She could if she was an Order member.” Hermione said quietly beside him.
“Alexandria Kruss is NOT a member of the Order of the Pheonix!” Draco shouted standing up, only to be shot back into the seat by a body bind hitting him in the chest.
“Alexandria Kruss is who sent you here?!” Hermione said, still holding her wand at the ready after firing the bind, “How in Merlin's name did that bloody woman find out this location?!”
“Who is Alexandria Kruss 'Mione?” Harry asked quietly.
“She's a member of the Russian Ministry of Magic. She's one of the Creature Regulation and Control officers there. She spent a year in Azkaban after Bellatrix Lestrange was found in her home back when she first graduated from Hogwarts. Supposedly she was unaware that Lestrange was wanted at the time and was given a lenient sentence for that reason.”
“You know this how?” Harry asked, with astonishment.
“I have read a lot of books on the other magical communities in the world Harry. The Russian and Egyptian communities are known for their magic being unique” she stated, ignoring the muttered 'bookworm' coming from Malfoy, “That bind will hold you for a good twenty minutes. Ron can I speak to you and Harry in the kitchen before it wears off?”
The three moved into the kitchen and she cast a silencing charm around them before sitting at the table, followed by them. Once seated she told Ron what her grandmother said and he instantly went into a rage. She waited for him to calm down, which took nearly five minutes, before explaining that she needed to find out what was going on, and then speak to Alexandria if she showed up. Harry agreed and stated they would let the blond stay here until then. Ron scowled and looked over noticing the blond was looking down at his feet.
“Do we REALLY have to let him stay here? Can't we just send him back?” he pleaded.
“Ron, my grandmother wouldn't have told me what she did if it wasn't important. Not to mention you heard what I said. She said that if we don't do it then Voldemort wins!” Hermione said, trying to reason with him.
“I don't like it Mione. He showed up here out of nowhere, giving us that bloody story that makes no sense, and expects us to believe it. We might as well have a magical sign above the door saying 'DRACO MALFOY IS HERE!”
“Ron calm down mate! It isn't like I want him here either. Vernon is going to flip shit when he sees he's here if he comes home and finds him” Harry said calmly.
“So we just wait to see if the bloody bitch shows up. That's just a great plan there guys” Ron said sarcastically before standing up, “Might as well welcome him since we're going to be dealing with him the next few days.”
The three of them walked back into the room after Hermione took the silencing spell down, before sitting on the couch. They all looked at each other and sighed before Hermione removed the bind on Malfoy. Instantly he rubbed his arms and sat back, but kept his eyes on the floor.
“What happened before Alexandria shoved you into the floo Malfoy?” Hermione asked quietly.
“Tell them everything. They will help you” Alex's last words rang through Draco's head and the look on her face came to him again. What had happened that had her so upset.
“Malfoy?” Harry snapped his fingers and the blond jumped slightly, being knocked out of his reverie.
“My mother and father were fighting, I don't know about what. Alex was in there with them and suddenly there was a loud crash. I silenced my room and was trying to go back to sleep, but she came barging in muttering in Russian and claiming I needed to leave. She summoned my trunk and wand, packed all my clothes really fast, and then shoved me into the floo and here I am.”
“She didn't say anything to you?”
“She was babbling. She mentioned my mother, but wouldn't tell me what happened” he said quietly, all three of them noticing him shutting down.
“Malfoy you can stay here until she arrives, but the minute she does, I want answers. Did she say how long it would be until she got here?” Harry asked standing up.
“She said sometime tomorrow morning. If you let me use your owl I can contact Khira really fast and have her send a message for her to be here as soon as possible. Khira is Alex's wife.”
“Hedwig come here girl!” Harry yelled and the owl flew down the stairs from her perch in the upstairs room and landed on his shoulder, “You can send one letter, that we will read beforehand to her. Also include in the letter that if a reply is needed that it must be sent back with Hedwig as well and no other owls.”
Draco nodded and they handed him a piece of parchment, some ink, and a quill. He quickly wrote out a note and handed it to Harry to read, before Harry nodded, rolling and tying the message to the owl's leg and letting her leave.
~Malfoy Manor~
Alexandria Kruss quickly left Draco's room and ran back to the master bedroom. The room was a mess and there was glass everywhere. She suspected the glass was Lucius' doing in a fit of rage. She slowly walked over to the body on the floor and fell to her knees.
“Cissa...” she cried looking down at the woman who's lifeless eyes bore into hers. Just then she heard ten pops around her and looked up to see house elves all around her with looks of sadness and fear, “What are you going to do?”
“We house elves not here to remove Mistress Black. We only here to mourn her passing” one elf said stepping forward and placing his hand on Narcissa's hand as the other elves bowed down, their heads all hitting the floor, “We elves wish you a safe journey beyond this plain Mistress. May you join the rest of your family and be at peace. We elves shall always serve the most noble and honorable House of Black as well as the grand and pure House of Malfoy. With your passing, we elves shall now pass on your title to Master Draco and shall serve him as we have served you.”
“Will you stay in this house?” she asked turning to the elf.
“Those of us that stand here are all who were brought with Mistress when she married to Master Lucius. We are only tied to her and her son, no one else. We shall move to where Master Draco is and serve him as we have served his mother” the elf said quietly, tears flowing down his face.
“Draco does not know of his mother's death. I wished to tell him once I was able to clear everything up here and get this murder reported. Are you able to wait a day or two so I have time to tell him and get this all straightened out?” she asked.
“Yes, we can wait. When Master Draco wishes us to come to him, simply have him speak my name, Pippy. We shall all leave then and join him.”
She nodded and thanked the elves before turning around and looking around the room. She needed to find anything that would indicate where Lucius ran off to. The coward killed his own wife in cold blood just for speaking back to him and then ran like a coward. Only because he was doing what a half-blood told him to do.
~~Flashback~~
Alex knocked on the door and entered when Lucius said she could. He was seated near the fire with a glass of firewhiskey in his hand and scowled when he saw it was her that entered.
“Why do you act like this Lucius? You act as if this is the end of the world for you just because your son inherited some creature traits. He is still a fine wizard and will make you proud-”
“He will never make me proud! He is just a failure. I decree as head of the Malfoy house that Draco Lucius Malfoy be burned from-” he was cut off by his wife coming in and silencing him with a flick of her wand.
“Don't you dare disown our son just because he inherited a few traits that make him more powerful!” she yelled at him as Alex backed away towards the door, “Now I am going to remove that spell, and we are going to talk this over like adults.”
“Lucius, he is still your son. You do not have to tell anyone about his blood status. You can keep it hidden if needed,” Alex said as Narcissa lifted the spell.
“The Dark Lord will kill him if he ever finds out! I will not take that chance!” he yelled at his wife.
“You are too stubborn and proud to realize Lucius Malfoy that the Black family has KNOWN about this for years, generations and we have not said a word against it. You knew of it when you married me, and yet you still was willing to do so.”
“I had no choice in my marriage to you Narcissa. We were betrothed ever since the age of five” he turned away from her after saying this.
“Lucius calm your magic. I can sense it from over here that it it about to consume you. Calm it!” Alex said quietly,
“Lucius, I know that you love Draco. He is your son, and you must not turn your back on him. You mustn’t do it. I'm begging you please to not do it Lucius” his wife begged as she watched his shoulders shaking and his arm trembling at his side.
“I have orders from the Dark Lord and I must follow them Narcissa. Draco is not a pure blooded wizard. He can no longer be considered such. Either let me do my duty as the head of the Malfoy family, or suffer the consequences” He said, turning and pulling the wand from his cane, and pointing it at her.
“I cannot let you do that Lucius. He is my son and I will protect him!” she said raising her wand before looking at Alex, "No matter what happens here tonight Alex, protect him. Protect him and show him the right path."
"I promise Cissy," Alex said quietly as the blond turned to face her husband.
“So be it,” he said just as she shouted a spell, “Avada Kedavra!”
Alex watched from the doorway as the red and green lights passed each other before striking both of the targets. Lucius fell back against the wall, knocking down two portraits. Narcissa's lifeless body fell as well, never to move again. Tears leaked from Alex's eyes as her emotions hit her and she did the only thing she could do...she ran back to the boy in the other room. She had to keep her promise to Narcissa. She had to save Draco.
Alex looked over at the lifeless body and reached over to push down her eyelids, as well as removing her necklace to give to Draco. It was a Black family heirloom and rightfully his now. Her and Narcissa had always been close, and it hurt so much to know she was gone. After a moment she thought of something and moved both of Narcissa's hands to lay on her stomach before placing her wand just in her hands, a sign of respect. It was the least she could do for her longtime friend. She needed to report the murder to the Ministry and go to Draco. He needed to hear this before the Daily Prophet got a chance to report it. She figured she'd go to Potter's house in the morning. For now, she needed to speak with Rufus Scrimgeour.
~~The Dursley's~~
Harry and Ron were sitting in the kitchen talking while Hermione sat on the couch finishing the movie. It was nearly two in the morning and they all were tired, but refused to sleep thanks to their new visitor. Hermione noticed that he kept looking at his trunk and looking away and she had honestly gotten tired of seeing it. After a few more times, she had enough.
“Malfoy is there something in your trunk you are wanting to get out of it?” she asked angrily, catching the attention of the two in the kitchen.
“I wanted to put on one of my own shirts. This one is too itchy.” he said with a glare, “I also might still have a way to contact Alex or Khira faster. I'll need my wand to use it though.”
“Just open it and get it out then,” She replied, pulling out both of their wands, tossing him his and watching him, “Don't try anything funny as well. I will be watching.”
Draco knelt down next to his trunk and clicked it open before grabbing a shirt out of it. He yanked off the rag he was wearing and pulled the other one on quickly, placing the other on the coffee table. He turned back to his trunk and searched under his clothes before he found what he was looking for. He pulled the small orb out and a stand, placing them on the table as well, and tapping the ball with his wand, where it re-sized itself, showing it was a crystal ball of sorts. Hermione leaned forward to look in it and noticed it was glowing a bright blue and had swirls of purple in it. He closed his trunk again and sat in front of the ball. He placed his hand on top of the orb and muttered something before they all heard a hissing sound. Harry and Ron had come in and were watching from the doorway as they saw the orb come to life. Suddenly above the orb a hologram of a face appeared facing the Gryffindors.
“Who the hell are you? Do you have any idea what time it is?! I ought to come through this orb and-” the face screamed at them, before turning towards Draco and stopping, “Draco? Why are you using the gazing orb at this time of night? Where's Alex?”
“I should ask you that Khira. She is your wife. She hasn't been home yet?” he asked and the lady shook her head.
“No, she said she was summoned by your mother to come check on you, but never came home. Should we be worried?”
“I do not know. Khira, has an owl arrived there yet?”
“Oh that snow owl that arrived here just a few minutes ago? I never got to open the letter. Was that from you? That is not your usual owl Draco. Who's is that?”
“That's my owl miss. I let Malfoy use it so that he could send the letter to you or your wife.” Harry stated stepping forward.
“It cannot be” She said upon seeing his face, “Mr. Harry Potter, you are definitely an unexpected face. You look more like your father every day you know but you definitely have Lily's eyes.”
“Everyone tells me that” Harry mumbled before Khira turned back to Draco.
“Tell you what Dragon. I'll hop over to the mansion and see if Alex is there. We'll come over first thing in the morning to give you an update. Until then you behave. I'm assuming the other two in the room were Granger and Weasley?” she said and turned to the Gryffindors.
“Yes.”
“Good! Now I know he can be a brat, but if he gives you any trouble and you cannot handle him, just tap this orb with your wand and ask for me, Khira Kruss. It will let me know I am needed there and I can arrive there easily.” She quickly spun around again, “Also, let me not forget. Happy Birthday Dragon. I will see you when Alex arrives. We will both come to see you together.”
Draco nodded and the hologram disappeared. He tapped the orb with his wand and shrunk it, replacing it in his bag. Something was going on and he could tell it was not a good thing. Alex was taking too long to get home. He sat back down in the chair and closed his eyes slightly. He sat there for a few minutes letting his mind relax. Just then he heard rustling beside him and opened his eyes to see Potter had placed a pillow and a blanket on the trunk next to him, before moving to hand one of each to Granger and Weasley. Weasley moved to lay down on the floor, and turned to face away from him, while Granger stretched out on the couch.
“I'll stay awake to make sure he doesn't try anything” Harry said and Hermione nodded to him, Ron grunting his approval from the floor.
“I'm not going to do anything Potter. I'm just as tired as all of you” Draco grumbled, placing a softening charm on the chair he was in, along with a slight warming charm on the cover, before moving the trunk over to rest his feet on top of it.
“I still don't want to take chances Malfoy. Get some sleep guys. We'll talk more in the morning.”
Draco closed his eyes and tried to sleep as the lights were turned out. All he could seem to think about was the face of his godmother, with tears in her eyes, as he was shoved into the floo and sent here. He had questions, and he expected answers when he woke up. Little did he know the answers were coming very soon.
