The freedom of the Malfoys.
Kingsley Shacklebolt had not been in office long, and the trials had begun, very quickly, only two weeks after May 2nd. Now, in his office and before him, were a team of barristers, namely the barristers for one Lucius Malfoy, and Shacklebolt worried what they would do to insure his freedom.
"Mr. Gameshot, you say you are Mr. Malfoy's attorney"? Shacklebolt inquired.
"The Malfoy family solicitors, minister", the tall, weedy man replied. "We are here not only for Lucius, but his wife and son as well".
"Ah, I see", Shacklebolt deadpanned. "What evidence do you have of their innocence, and why are you here, instead of bringing this evidence before the Wizengamot"?
"Well minster", Gameshot said, as the others in his group started in taking notes, "I do intend on allowing Lucius to tell his tale under Veritaserum, but thought you might like to know what might be revealed if this goes on any farther".
At this, Shacklebolt raised from his chair, "Is this some sort of threat, barrister Gameshot"?
"No, minister, just stating fact", Gameshot expounded while shaking his head. "A bad business, minister, very bad. Oh, what could happen of our hero, Mr. Potter, if it all was to come to light".
"Just what", Kingsley growled, "does Harry Potter have to do with anything"?
"Well, you see minister", Gameshot retorted, "Mr. Potter was at the cemetery, on the night of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named's return, and heard very clearly how he said Lucius never tried to find him after his demise, and watched how Lucius had to try to lie his way out of it to protect himself and his family, but it goes deeper than this, you see".
"How much deeper"? Kingsley enquired. "If that is all there is..."
"Well, there is that nasty business where Mr. Potter used a nasty and dark cutting curse on his son, which was covered up by Headmaster Dumbledore, and never reported to the authorities. Madam Pomfrey will be called in to testify on this, along with using several memories left by Headmaster Severus Snape". Gameshot explained with glee, "Plus, we have it on good authority that he used several unforgivables before, and during, the altercation on May 2nd, and of course, we have several willing to testify to this, including two Goblins".
At this, Kingsley plopped back into his chair, the wind knocked totally out of his sails. "I could order all this to be kept confidential and top secret by the ministry, and void any of its use during the trial"!
"You could, but it will get out, as we have already taken measures to insure it off of British soil, as truth wins out, you know. It would be such a shame to see the savior put on trial, and a fair trial, mind you, for these unforgivable events". Gameshot rebutted, and sat back with a smirk on his face.
"I will need to discuss this with Mr. Potter", Shacklebolt said, "and I will contact you tomorrow morning on what I intend on doing".
As Kingsley watched on, the barristers stored their notes, one even collecting the memory of the meeting in a glass phial, and headed out the door of his office. When the door closed, Kingsley swore aloud.
Well, there was nothing for it, the new minister grabbed a pinch of floo powder, and threw it into the hearth in his office, "Weasley Residence".

Harry Potter was not having a good morning. He had hardly slept at all, after the new minister's visit, and was awaiting news on what he intended on doing. Kingsley had yet to floo back, and he was awaiting his reply on pins and needles.
Harry knew Lucius was slick, yet he had not foreseen his actions, but should have, being as the sorting hat had wanted to put him in Slytherin after all. Oh, he had been willing to go to bat for Narcissa, and reluctantly testify for Draco, but Lucius, hell no! However, after Kingsley explained what took place during the meeting, he began to get worried, even though the Weasley's and Hermione were shouting around him. Now, he was stirring some coffee, trying to stay awake, and just awaiting the bad news.
Just as he stirred his last stir, an owl appeared with the morning's Daily Prophet, which he quickly paid the owl for, and unrolled, only to see a large moving photo of the Malfoy family, grinning from ear to ear, with a headline reading, "Malfoy Family Pardoned"!
"Well", Harry sniped, "it looks like our new ministry will be just like the one Fudge and Scrimgeour left, dirty politics and all".
Not seconds later, the Weasley brood, along with Hermione, came into the kitchen for breakfast, read the paper, and the shouting commenced again. Harry shook his head and walked outside, as he just had to get away from it all.

Author's note:
I wrote this short oneshot to describe what JKR said happened to the Malfoys after the war. Dirty politics is dirty politics, and anyone who becomes a politician, will soon find, that this is just the way it is.
