Disclaimer: Don't own Harry Potter or Anita Blake series. I make no money off of this, just do it for fun~! |
Heya guys!
Still working on my other stories I promise but I've been stuck on them for like forever so I thought that since I seem to be able to write other things easily, I would try to get something else out and hopefully that would help me get writing on my other fics! Enjoy loves~
Anita Blake was not having a good day. She had forgotten to switch her alarm on the night before, Nathaniel had been sleep over at the Circus of the Damned with Jason the previous night so she hadn't had him to snuggle with and Micah was with a new shifter all night so she had ended up sleeping alone. She had ended up waking up late with no time to make some coffee or stop at a drive thru so she was caffeine deprived and to make matters worse, the elevator at her work office was kept busy because of movers and she was stuck behind another set of them on the staircase. So no, this was not a good day.
When she finally managed to enter the office of Animators Inc., it was to find more movers inside. "Who's moving in?" She finally asked Mary, their morning secretary.
"New guy that Bert hired, he's starting today and all his office furniture is arriving at once, no clue why it's so last minute." Mary answered her.
"Probably Bert forgot to order it for him or something. When's he getting in?" Anita replied, though it was unusual for her boss to forget something like new furniture for the Animators that worked with him.
"Right now." A voice came from behind her. Turning around, Anita watched as Bert walked over to them, checking his watch before stopping in front of her.
"So who is this new guy? I haven't heard you mention anyone coming in new at all." Anita questioned him.
"He came highly recommended. Guy is previous Scotland Yard, super strong powers apparently and very good vampire kill record. Almost as many as you Anita." Bert answered her, secretly enjoying the momentary look of shock on her face. It's not often that someone could shock The Executioner.
"Scotland Yard hired an animator and had him kill vampires for them?" She asked Bert, quite sure that the Europeans would be slightly more squeamish than that.
"They hired him AFTER he killed all those vampires, not before." Bert replied, mystified about this as well.
"I don't get it." Anita admitted, usually the Scottish would frown about something like that, not hire the person. The laws were the same wherever you went, vampires are people, and you're not supposed to kill them. So who were the vampires that this guy had killed that was so important that that the Yard actually rewarded this guy instead of punishing him.
"Apparently he killed a rouge werewolf too, one that the Yard had been after for years. A werewolf famous for turning children and practically a serial killer. Also he killed his parent's murderer, a megalomaniac with dreams of world domination. All this before he was eighteen." Bert dropped the biggest bombshell on Anita, watching her eyes and face display their shock, not even bothering to hide it this time.
"EIGHTEEN! He's killed a serial killer werewolf and a megalomaniac who killed his parents before he graduated high school? Who is this guy?" Anita snapped, firmly believing this guy to be a figment of Bert's imagination.
"Harry Potter." An accented voice spoke up behind them, marking Anita and Bert snap their heads up in shock. In the doorway stood a boy…man if you could call him that, looking no older than eighteen years old. He was maybe an inch taller than Anita's 5'3", with a nest of stylishly messy black hair and bright green piercing eyes. He was wearing a pair of black dress pants and a silver short sleeved button down shirt with a plain black tie over top. He looked quite professional, probably trying to make a good impression on his first day of the new job. A US Marshall badge glinted from his hip.
"Mr. Potter, wonderful to finally put a face to the name." Bert greeted the boy/man, making Anita doubt his sanity. She was expecting someone…older to have beaten her record, worked for Scotland Yard and killed serial killer werewolves. Not a kid who didn't even grow facial hair yet.
"Bert I assume." This kid, Harry, replied. English. Definitely English accent.
Watching them shake hands, Anita thought that the new kid was fresh meat. He probably had lied on his resume or something, he didn't look like he could kill a fly.
"I would like you to meet one of your new co-workers, this is Anita Blake." Bert pulled her into their conversation, ignoring the glare she sent him.
"The Executioner herself. Your reputation precedes you ma'am." Harry turned those green, green eyes to her, pulling her in.
"I didn't realise that my reputation as you put it had reached Scotland Yard." Anita replied, raising an eyebrow at the kid. She was ticked off at the ma'am, and at the fact that he refused to extend his hand to her.
Seeing the look Bert gave her, she swallowed her pride and decided to be the adult and put out her hand for a shake.
"No, it hasn't. I however am important enough in certain circles of the preternatural world that when I decide to move across the pond, background checks on those I will interact with the most are a necessity." He replied, reaching over to grab her hand.
Power of a kind she had never felt before washed over her, drowning her. There was necromancy, different from hers, warm necromancy where hers was like a cold grey cloud. It was overshadowed by an electrical energy, so tangent that she could almost taste it in the back of her mouth.
Gasping, trying to dispel the feel of that energy, she withdrew from his hand as if he had shocked her. Stumbling back, she clutched at the secretarial desk, trying not to collapse to her knees.
"Anita!" Bert rushed over to her, trying to steady her but she pushed him away, only having eyes for Harry.
"What are you?" She asked him, trying not to reach for her gun as was her first instinct when she was afraid.
"A necromancer. Just like you ma'am." Harry replied, his eyes spoke volumes however when they hardened into solid emerald.
"No, you're more than that. I know you are. I could feel it. Now what are y—"her question was interrupted by her ringtone.
Grabbing her cell phone, she kept an eye on the stranger, ignoring Bert glaring at her for 'antagonising' the new guy.
"Blake!" She barked into the phone, not bothering to check who was calling.
"Anita." Richards's rich tone filled her ear.
"Richard, what's going on?" She replied tersely, knowing that it had to be an emergency for him to call her during the day when he was supposed to be teaching.
"What's going on? I just felt a power spike through the marks and Jason called over to say that Jean-Claude's coffin started shaking before it settled again. Now I know it wasn't him or me so what's wrong with you, what caused the power spike?" Richard asked, ignoring the terse tone.
"Nothing, just meeting the new animator at work. Is Jean-Claude alright?" Anita questioned, not noticing the slight narrowing of Harry's eyes at the name.
Before she could hear Richard's answer, Harry spoke up. "Jean-Claude? As in the vampire Master of St. Louis?"
"Yes, what's it to you?" She shot back, ignoring Richard on the other line for a moment.
"You associate with vampires?" Harry asked, barely managing to restrain the loathing in his voice.
"As a matter of fact I do! I occasionally even sleep with them!" Anita snapped, hating herself for revealing her private life but tired off all the crap and judgement people piled on her when they found out who she slept with.
Harry stared at her for a minute before he replied, his tone colder than ice. "You're a monster worse than they ever could be. You're disgusting."
He turned and walked away, following the movers into his office and leaving a gaping Bert and raging Anita behind him.
