A/N: Okay so I know that I am writing A Selfless Heart and The Expedition but I needed a little mental vacation. While on this vacation I went and saw the Jennifer Lopez movie ‘The Boy Next Door’ and some ideas came to my mind.

So this story, if the summery wasn’t clear enough, is about Hermione and Teddy Lupin. I know I write a lot with Hermione but I like writing with her better than anyone else, Teddy however is completely new for me and it will be fun to give him a personality of his own. Hermione is going to learn that being in her thirties and divorced doesn’t mean that she is old and unattractive and Teddy Lupin happens to be there to help her on this trip to self-rediscovery!
Just to throw this in here it is the summer after Teddy graduated from Hogwarts. He is indeed seventeen but is an adult in their world.

Hermione looked outside the window of her small and comfortable cottage and then looked behind her to where her son and daughter were standing. Only in the wizarding world would the crappy and uncaring father of the children get full custody of the children. Hugo loved living with Ron but Rose despised the time she had to spend with her father but then again she was a mama’s girl and was just protecting her. She smiled at them and looked to the fireplace where Ron had just come through.
“Come on Rose, Hugo” He said “You get to spend a few days with gram”
“Why can’t we just stay here?” Rose asked innocently.
“Because” Ron smirked at Hermione “Your mother is very busy with her work”
“It’s okay, really” Hermione said “Really”
“I wanna see Gram!” Hugo whined “Come on!”
“I want to stay with mum!” Rose demanded.
“You are going to your grandmothers” Ron said and when tears filled her eyes his own softened and then focused on Hermione the woman he thought he had loved “Tell you what, Rosie darling”
“What?” She asked looking at her feet.
“Gram misses you” He said “Go and spend the weekend with her and on Monday while Hugo and I go home we will drop you off here, if it’s okay with your mother”
“Of course it is” Hermione added in.
“For the whole summer?” Rose pressed.
“We’ll talk about it” Ron said.
“Thank you, daddy” She hugged him and then hugged Hermione “I’ll be back on Monday, mum”
“I’ll see you then” Hermione said and watched them leave.
It was about an hour after her children had left and Hermione was reading outside on her patio that she really noticed how overgrown her yard had become. For his many faults Ron had always taken care of their yard and here she was just letting nature take over her world. She and Ron had been divorced now for two years but it was still hurtful the way he treated her. The wizarding world was all about family and when the ministry realized that she was an only child and her parents had been killed in the second wizarding war Ron got custody of the children. They seemed to think that he was the better choice even though he was notoriously lazy and immature. It was as if they expected that all of a sudden Hermione would take off and leave the kids alone or with strangers.
“Hey Mrs. Weasley” She looked up startled “Sorry, I mean Hermione. I’m not used to being able to call you by your first name”
“It’s okay, Teddy” She smiled “It’s a little strange to hear it in all honesty” She looked at the tall and muscular newly seventeen year old Hogwarts graduate “What are you doing this summer?”
“I was thinking about getting a job” He said “Some of the ministry officials that knew my mum want to show me the ropes in the Law Enforcement office”
“Do you want to be an Auror?” Hermione asked.
“Nah” He said with a shy, boyish smile that showed off dimples that she remembered Remus having as well “I know that everyone wants me to be one but I was thinking about going for something in the Department of Mysteries in the Cursed Creatures section”
“Now, why in the world would you want that?” Hermione asked with a laugh as she motioned for him to sit and have a cup of tea with her.
“I have no clue” He answered with another shy smile “Being the only known surviving child of a werewolf and Metamorphagus really has nothing to do with my decision”
“I imagine it doesn’t” She laughed looking out over the land again and sighed “If I gave you some money you think you could tend my yard?”
“I’ll do it for free” He grinned “Are you writing another book because I loved Unlocking Runes and couldn’t put it down”
“You read that?!” She gasped.
“Why do you sound so surprised?” He asked with a laugh “That’s a little offensive I think”
“I’m sorry” She said honestly while still chuckling “It’s just...I’ve talked to others my age that couldn’t understand half of what I wrote and then there’s you talking about it like it was a best-selling novel”
“Ancient Runes was my favorite class” He told her “That and Arithmancy”
“Mine too” She told him. They spoke for a while about different things of interest before Andromeda sent an owl out for him as they had a dinner date.

“Who is the muscular hunk manually mowing the lawn?” Ginny asked trying in vain to see who the shirtless man was in Hermione’s yard.
“That would be Teddy Lupin” Hermione said as she brought over two glasses of iced tea “Would you like to sit outside?”
“Oh yeah” Ginny said licking her lips watching him wipe sweat off his forehead “Who would have thought he would grow up to look like that?”
“Ginerva Weasley-Potter!” Hermione admonished as they sat down “You practically raised that boy!”
“I know” She pouted “And I’m blissfully happy in my marriage” She shot a mischievous look at Hermione “But you didn’t really meet him until last year and aren’t married…think about the fun!”
“Oh my gods!” Hermione squealed “I am not!” She lowered her voice when he looked over “He is seventeen years old. Just out of Hogwarts…I would never, ever in all of my life would I ever seduce him!”
“But look at him” Ginny said. They both looked at him with longing, he was indeed a sight to behold, he was taller than Remus had been, long lean muscles, hard abs, bulging biceps, strong legs and nice pectorals. He had a strong jaw, straight nose (which he could change whenever he wanted to) a full bottom lip and thinner upper lip, his eyes were lovely with (currently) a light green color that were like Ginny’s and his hair was currently black.
“Unfortunately his companionship is the only companionship I’ve had with the opposite sex recently” Hermione said “His conversation is all I’ve had over the last few days”
“Awe” Ginny smiled “Rock his world, Hermione!”
“Ginny” She said “He is pretty much your godson…how can you say things like that?”
“Oh Hermione” She laughed and waved her hand around as if chasing after a bee “I am only playing of course…I’m just worried about you is all” She looked at Hermione “It has been two years since the divorce, Rose is in school and Hugo spends his days at wizarding school or with my mother”
“I know” She said looking at the table top and feeling tears threaten to fall.
“All you do all day is write and hide away in here” Ginny pointed out.
“That’s not all I do” Hermione scoffed knowing that Ginny was right in what she was saying
“Andromeda told me that’s all you do” Ginny said “It’s not like you’re really hiding away, you’ve rented this cottage on Andromeda’s land” Ginny turned to look at her “How is it you only met Teddy last year when you’ve been living here for a year and a half?”
“He was in Germany the first summer I was here and then there was Hogwarts and I was never around for the holidays” Hermione informed the redhead “How is Harry?”
“Changing the subject” Ginny pointed out with a smile “Okay, okay. Well, Harry is good working hard as usual and hanging out with Ron and Neville when he is not working hard” She smiled “He’s sad that Lily is so wrapped up in her friends at the wizarding school”
“She was his baby” Hermione said “And now she’s growing up” She sighed and looked in the living room where there was a picture of Hugo and Rose taken the year before “I know how he feels but at least he gets to see her everyday”
“How is Rose liking Ravenclaw?” Ginny asked.
“She said that it’s great” Hermione informed “Said that they have all sorts of study groups throughout the week so no one falls behind and she’s tutoring a few first years in Muggle Studies and that she is thinking about trying out for Quidditch”
“She doesn’t have your fear of flying?” Ginny asked
“Nope” Hermione shook her head “Hugo inherited that”
“Poor thing” Ginny laughed.
“Ronald seems to think that I have screwed up his son” Hermione told her “He seems to think that a girl can’t be a Quidditch star”
“I should go over and smack the hell out of him” Ginny exclaimed “Did I not play for the Holyhead Harpies for five years?” She rolled her eyes “The only five years that they won every game and was completely unbeatable”
“I know” Hermione said.
Ginny visited for another few hours talking about nothing in particular. When she left Hermione was happy to be alone for a little while and set to making herself dinner. She was humming to herself when she heard the backdoor open and close, she knew it was Teddy as she told him to come in when he was done. She turned when the kitchen door opened and found the, now, bright blue haired boy standing there shirtless and covered in water.
“Sorry” He said motioning to the wet floor “It started raining about ten minutes ago” She handed him a towel and tried not to watch a raindrop that was gliding down his chest. It slid down his collar bone, over his right pectoral muscle and over his nipple, down his ripped abs and got absorbed in to his pants.
“It’s okay” She said a little huskily “Floors dry”
“You mind if I stay here for a little while?” He asked “My shirt got soaked and I have to be over at Malfoy Manor in an hour and a half”
“Sure” She answered watching as he draped his shirt over the back of a chair to drip dry in front of the fireplace in the living room “Why are you going over there?”
“My grandmother has me babysitting my cousins brats” He told her “I’ve been babysitting those little shits since they were born”
“Scorpius can’t be that bad, can he?” She asked as they sat on the couch “He’s twelve, right?”
“Yes” Teddy answered “And believe me he is far worse than Melena. She’s still sweet to me but he is all ‘I’m going to do this and you better not stop me!’ then there is the famous ‘my father’…”
“’Will hear about this!’” Hermione finished with a laugh “It’s nice to see that hasn’t changed in the Malfoy family”
“Well believe me when I say that Hogwarts has only made him more of an unbearable little monster!” Teddy looked at her and smiled “Let’s not talk about unpleasant things”
“Then what shall we speak about?” Hermione asked.
“You” He said with a smile “The quiet and elusive Hermione Granger”
“Weasley” She added “You forgot that…it’s what’s always on my mail when I get it”
“Do you feel like a Weasley?” He asked.
“Not really” She smiled “But you don’t need to hear about that”
“Hey” She smiled “What’s up with you and Victorie Weasley, I heard that you two were dating”
“No” He said with a sad smile as he reached out and pulled her feet up on to his lap and gently rubbed her sensitive skin “We did date from fifth year to the beginning of seventh year but then she started to become interested in someone else so I broke up with her”
“I’m sorry” She said “You’ll find someone more worthy of you than her”
“I think I found someone already” He said with a smile but then raised his eyes to the clock and sighed heavily “Alright, I’ve got to go and spend the night chasing after little blonde haired demons”
“Good luck” She said as he put his shirt back on and walked to the fireplace “If you need a spell to stick them to the walls send me a letter”
“Will do” He said with a laugh as he Floo’d away from her small cottage. Hermione sighed and went about with her evening plans which consisted of reading, snacking on chocolates and taking a hot bath before turning in early like most other nights.
