A/N: Work with me here...
The city of New York was a strange and loud place. London was crazy and all but it seemed to be even crazier in this city or maybe it was because Hermione Granger was in a new place by herself. Usually she had Ron and Harry with her, but as the war ended they became interested in spending as much time as possible drinking and sleeping with their girlfriends. When Voldemort was finally gone the following year was spent collecting the remaining death eaters and then Hermione finished up her schooling before she went off to Australia to find her parents. She found them and reversed the spell she put on them and then she explained everything to them starting at year one. It had taken a full week to tell them everything that they needed to know and she thought that they had been taking it well but they didn’t. They told her that while they still loved her with all their hearts, they just weren’t able to forgive her and suggested that she leave for a while. She did, with a completely broken heart and promised to not bother them until they were ready to see her again.
She had lied though, just four months after leaving Australia she wrote them a pitiful letter telling them about how lonely she was without them and her friends. She didn’t think that they would write back and they hadn’t, not right away at least, the letter came three weeks later. She looked around the alien city and took a deep breath before she started walking deeper in the ‘skyscraper jungle’ as she liked to think of it. About three blocks later Hermione leaned against the nearest building and pulled out the letter her mother, Jane, had sent her two months earlier.
Dearest Hermione,
I am deeply sorry about your loneliness and wish that having you come home to us was a possibility but to be perfectly honest with you, your father and I have been having great difficulty with trusting you. We are your parents and you should have told us that from the very minute you stepped foot in the school you were in danger and that that danger was getting more and more vicious with each coming year. You didn’t. We would have to gone in to hiding during the war and stayed hidden in a safe house that your Professor McGonagall was going to offer us. But you didn’t let us even have that possibility. Like I said before, we are having trouble trusting you now and probably will for a long while but that doesn’t mean that we want you to be unhappy so I have some news for you.
You have some cousins from Romania that your father and I should have taken in when their parents were killed. We were having marital problems at the time and you were at school so we took too long to get them and by the time we tried they had already been adopted by the government. Their names are Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, twins and they are currently living in New York City in America with friends of theirs. Go and stay with them for a while as I am sure they would be happy to see some family members even though you three never got a chance to meet.
With love,
Mom.
She had scrawled their address at the bottom of the letter along with instructions about sending an owl to them. She had paced numerous times thinking over everything that could happen, they could hate her, she may not have anything in common with them but she wrote a letter anyway and figured that at the worse they may just never write back to her. But with the possibility that they may write back to her she decided that they should write a few letters before she asked to come over to visit and maybe stay for a while. Hermione walked a few more blocks and then pulled out the letter from Wanda that she’d gotten the morning before.
Dear Hermione,
I am so excited to finally meet you. I really thought that I was the only one in our family with magical powers. Though I would like to see your brand of magic as I am sure that we are completely different in that aspect. I can’t wait for you to meet my friends, Pietro and I told you all about them but you just don’t understand them until you see them for yourself. It’ll be so nice to have another woman around, I don’t think Natasha likes me very much…though I can’t really blame her.
-Wanda.
Hermione looked up at the tall building that had a large ‘A’ written on the side way up at top. This was the Avengers building, more like Tony Starks home that just happened to be filled to the brim with magical beings. She looked at the ‘A’ again and heaved a sighed before walking up to the door and pressed the little red call button. It buzzed. There was no answer. She pressed it again and waited. There was a crackling sound from the call box and then nothing, she pressed it again and let it buzz for almost a whole minute before letting up. It was already ten o’clock in the morning, surely it wasn’t too early to be here. This was a house filled with the world’s mightiest heroes and she was sure that they wouldn’t still be asleep.
“WHAT!” The voice was screamed out at her causing her to jump back in shocked horror.
“Um…” She answered.
“WHAT?!” The voice screamed again “Who is buzzing in at this time in the morning?!”
“My name is Hermione Granger” She said cautiously “I am here to meet my cousins”
“Oh really” Said the voice nastily “And who are these cousins?”
“Pietro and Wanda Maximoff” She answered “Who is this?”
“I will wake one of them up” Answered the voice
Hermione stood on the sidewalk with her arms crossed over her chest for several more minutes and considered just leaving. Now that she knew she’d made someone angry she really didn’t want to go up there and meet them all. There was a gust of wind in front of her and she found herself staring at a male a year or so older than she was with curly blonde/silver hair with silver eyes, he was tanned with a tall, thin and athletic body. He smiled at her brightly and hugged her instantly without asking if she was who he was looking for. There was a rush of wind and then they were standing in a living room, she leaned against the nearest wall and dry-heaved.
“If she pukes, Pietro” A male said “You lick the floor clean”
“You don’t like speed?” He asked Hermione awkwardly rubbing her back.
“Not…” She gagged again and took some deep, soothing breaths “Not…sprung on me, like that”
“Pietro!” A woman’s voice gasped “Tell me you didn’t run her up here without warning!” There was the sound of a slap followed by an ‘ow’ from him “You know how sick it makes me when I am not expecting it!”
“Come” The speaker put her arm around Hermione’s shoulders and led her across the floor but when she stopped to dry-heave again the woman made soothing sounds “I could always find Vision and ask him to fly you to a comfortable spot outside”
“Oh god no!” Hermione moaned “I hate flying”
“I can carry her” She heard another softer male voice say kindly from near her and then she was lifted in to strong arms. She was trying desperately to concentrate of something other than vomiting as she was sure that she was in the arms of a god or something and didn’t want to cover him in puke. There was some whispering from somewhere off to her side but she kept her eye closed as enjoying the sun on her face.
“How are you doing?” The woman asked and Hermione finally cracked one eye open and saw a woman wearing red pajama pants and black and red long-sleeve shirt. She had long chestnut brown long curly hair, a small pale heart-shaped face so much like Hermione’s and her mothers, she was curvy and looked perfectly nice “I’m Wanda, your cousin”
“I’m Hermione” She greeted “Thank you for…bringing me out here”
“I am sorry for my brother’s inability to think properly” She answered and then looked behind her where Hermione could hear others joining them “I was going to ask you to come and visit after I read the first letter but Pietro noted that you probably had your own life and wouldn’t want to come here”
“When I wrote the first letter” Hermione said laying back in the lounge chair “I was finishing up my schooling and finishing…stuff”
“Stuff?” Said a male with dark hair and facial hair, he was handsome but older “What kind of stuff?”
“The personal kind” Hermione snapped “Anyway, I figured it would be best to talk and get to know one another before meeting”
“Understandable” Wanda said “We’ve been a bit busy as well”
“Wanda” Said the older man again “You claim she’s a witch…so, why didn’t she fly up here instead of making that damn buzzing noise and waking me up?”
“Shut up, Tony!” Wanda hissed at him.
“Because” Hermione answered “I don’t like to fly and after spending the last seven hours apparating across the bloody ocean so sorry that I didn’t feel like tiring myself out, Mr. Stark”
“What’s that?” Asked the other dark-haired older man “What’s that you’re drinking?”
“A Pepper-Up Potion” She answered instantly feeling better “To apperate across the sea you need to land in very precise areas at precise times so you don’t fall in the water or get eaten by a shark” She laughed when they looked lost “To apperate across the sea you have to be able to ‘jump’, not literally, from ship to ship to get to where you need to be and sometimes that means having to know that one ship is going to be in a specific area so you don’t overshoot it or jump too soon”
“You’ll have to explain it to me at some point” He said “By the way I am Dr. Bruce Banner” Hermione nodded and studied him, he was supposed to be a world-renowned Nuclear Physicist and yet he stood there with his shoulders hunched slightly and his arms wrapped tightly around his middle and looked almost afraid of himself.
“Nice to meet you, Dr. Banner” Hermione said “I’ve read some of your work before, I had to abandon my interest in it unfortunately when I was fifteen because I had other things I had to do that were more pressing at the time”
“You were reading it at fifteen?” He looked shocked “And understood it?”
“Most of it” She admitted “Some I needed help understanding. It was only used for a bit of light reading before bed in the summer, no one at the wizarding school I went to would have understood it…either that or they would have become too interested in it and would have…I don’t know tried to take over the world or something” She meant it as a joke but they looked entirely too worried for her liking and she quickly threw in a laugh to show them it was a joke.
“So” Wanda said after a moment “You’ve met Tony and Bruce” She nodded to them “This is Pietro, my brother your brainless cousin, Clint and his wife are in bed still, Thor is in bed I think, Natasha…” She looked over at Bruce and raised her brows “Is in bed, I’m assuming” He nodded “Steve is in the kitchen and I have no clue if Vision even sleeps so I don’t know what’s going on there”
“Okay” Hermione nodded “Would you mind me taking a shower?”
“No!” She said and pulled her up “I’ll show you where mine is”
~~~//~~~
Hermione stood under the hot spray of the shower head just letting the water beat down on her back and shoulders and soaking her long hair so that it was plastered to her back. She had to hand it to Stark, he had one hell of an apartment that was stuffed full with all the latest technology but she would have preferred a home in the country or in the woods not the city. She was exhausted but she couldn’t go to bed now so after a long hot shower, she got out and got dressed in a comfortable pair of yoga pants and a tank top and exited Wanda’s bathroom making her way down the hallway to the living room. Two men and one woman had joined the others in there, she was told that their names but she nearly forgot right away.
The day went by quickly for her and as it got later things were harder to understand. Words became nothing more than a jumble in her mind, there always seemed to be a ringing in her head. Her ears felt like there was cotton stuffed in there and her nerves were shaky and the few times she tried magic it was elementary at best.
“Hey” Wanda said “Are you okay?” She frowned “You look ready to pass out”
“I am” Hermione said “You wouldn’t think I was being rude if…”
“Not at all” The other woman gasped in understanding “Go to bed…I’m sure Vision will come out tomorrow, I have no clue why he’s been hiding all day”
“Doesn’t like new people, I guess” Hermione offered as she stood up and swayed a little.
“Do you need help?” Pietro asked and she looked at him wearily and he laughed “I could walk you…and promise to walk only”
“I’m good” She answered “Third door on the left, right?” She asked looking at Stark who nodded, while he wasn’t being outright rude Hermione could tell that his waking up before he wanted to made him dislike her, at least today.
Down the back hallway and to the third door on the left and Hermione was entering her new bedroom. She didn’t turn on the light and just walked in to the darkened room finding the bed and dropping herself on to it. She was almost asleep when she heard a slight rustling noise and reopened her eyes and looked across the room. Her skin prickled and the hair on the back of her neck rose up as she saw a shadowy figure on the other side of the room moving around near her stuff. She sat up slowly, not wanting to move too quickly and give away her state of awake but she was too tired to do any magic. Her breath came out in little pants and the word that had been carved in to her arm burned painfully. Hermione walked quietly to the door and considered just fleeing and getting Banner or Stark to investigate but she’d never been one to back down from a challenge or a fight. Her hand reached out to the wall and her fingers searched for the light switch when she found it she felt a thrill go through her. The fight or flight need was taking over and she took a much needed deep breath before flicking the light on. She looked across the room at the red man (?!) that stood next to her bag looking at one of her charms books. He slowly turned his head towards her and Hermione started to hyperventilate, she took in his crimson complexion, the yellow stone on his forehead and his unnerving light, milky blue eyes with black pinprick pupils. Without being able to do magic at that moment and realizing that he was probably too strong for her to take on physically, Hermione screamed.
“What’s that?!” Wanda asked jumping up when she heard her cousin screaming. Pietro zoomed by everyone else as they all ran down the hallway and in to Hermione’s bedroom but all stopped upon entry. The scene was an odd one, Hermione standing fully clothed near the doorway with her hand still on the light switch. Vision was standing across the room with a bra in one hand and a large, old looking book in the other one and a look of absolute innocence on his face. It was like he didn’t understand what was going on which was likely very true, he was an Android that was true but he was very young and while he could likely fix anything electrical understanding something as simple as etiquette was lost on him and no one thought to teach it to him. However, the thought that a witch from England coming to stay with them had never crossed their minds and everyone else was used to his almost childlike interest and wonder so they never thought twice about the things he did.
“What the bloody hell is that?!” Hermione shrieked.
“That’s Vision” Natasha said “A who” She gave her an annoyed look “Not a what”
“He’s going through my stuff!” Hermione snapped “What the hell?!”
“He’s…curious” Tony said as he walked in to the room and slapped the book out of Vision’s hand and then picked the bra off his other hand “Nice” He dropped it in to her bag “Vision, you don’t see a woman’s bra” Waving his hand towards the bra “Unless you ask first, okay?”
“Oh” He said tilting his head to the side a little “But she was not using this one” He too pointed at the bra in the bag and then looked back at Hermione “I apologize for scaring you”
“Okay…” Hermione said but then her head was spinning again fast and she couldn’t stop it this time and after trying to get a few breaths in, Hermione finally gave up and allowed her exhaustion to overtake her and she passed out.
A/N: I know this is different then what I usually do and yet not as well…I really only know what I’ve seen in the Avenger/Thor/Iron Man movies so that is what I’m pulling from. Sorry if you hate it. I haven’t gotten any reviews on any stories in ages and I’m not really expecting any but if you like it let me know, if you want to see something in the here drop me a line but I’m more writing this because it was in my head.
Go ahead and Review!!!!
