Chapter A whole new world
Author’s note: Well I am back at a third go around. Lol, Now my old readers will see a big difference. This is because of a new beta reader I have acquired and she is absolutely wonderful. Her name is Ceara Elnin. She will help me out on many things to make this story enjoyable.
Oh and I don’t own any of these characters silly. This is JK Rowling’s world and the only thing I can claim is my plot and that is only because Ceara Elnin is a wonderful beta reader.
“Harry, Ron, Hermione! Dinner’s ready!”
The familiar voice calling up the stairs brought the three people sitting on the attic floor out of their self-imposed stupor. Harry, Ron, and Hermione hadn’t been speaking much of the day; they were lost in memories of the people they would never see again. Dumbledore. Lupin. Tonks. Dobby. Fred. Even Snape. The three had gone through so much in the past year, and sometimes they just needed to be alone with their thoughts.
Then there’d been the trials. They of course had to attend, especially for the Malfoys. Harry and Hermione wanted to give the family a second chance. After all, it was Draco Malfoy who had helped them in Malfoy Manor when they were caught by the Snatchers, and Narcissa had lied to Voldemort on Harry’s behalf. Ron wasn’t so forgiving, but in the end he testified in the Malfoys’ favor anyway.
Without a word, the three occupants got up and walked down for dinner. The Weasley house was much more crowded than usual. The entire Weasley family had gathered at Mrs. Weasley’s behest. She was determined to keep the remaining members of her family together, especially with the tragedy of Fred’s death. George was taking it the worst.
Harry took a seat between Ginny and Ron. Ginny smiled up at him. Harry slowly took Ginny’s hand and held it.
Mrs. Weasley glanced over at her children and tried to put a smile on her face. “I’ve arranged this family dinner to bring this family back together…” Mrs. Weasley paused as a few tears escaped her eyes but continued, “Even though this family has lost Fred I believe it is best that we try to mend the heartache. These last few months have really torn us apart.” Mrs. Weasley paused before turning to Harry and Hermione. “You two are part of this family as much as anyone else. Every Sunday I want to have a family day. In honor of Fred.” After finishing her speech a few tears trickled down Mrs. Weasley’s cheeks and she wiped them away. Everyone else nodded. They needed the time together to help them through the loss of Fred.
Mrs. Weasley continued, “So tonight we put the past behind us and celebrate the present.”
Her speech brought applause. Everyone agreed the best way to remember Fred was to eat and toast and be happy.
After dinner was over Mrs. Weasley said, “Everyone off to bed now. It’s quite late and I want everyone to have breakfast as a family before we start our week.” With that being said, Harry and Ron went up to their room.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Harry, Harry, Harry!”
Something sharp jabbed into his side. Harry grunted and tried to ignore the rude awakening. It was much too early for this, wasn’t it? Harry wanted a few more hours, just a few.
A feminine chuckle rang into his ear and Harry shot upright, his sleep effectively chased away. He rubbed his eyes and opened them to none other than Ginny, watching him with her head crooked to the side.
“Ginny! What in Merlin’s name are you doing?’ Harry asked in surprise as he pulled his cover up.
Ginny rolled her eyes. “It’s nothing I haven’t already seen!” She leaned in and gave Harry a quick kiss on the lips. Harry’s ears flushed as he kissed Ginny back.
Ron interrupted with an indignant shriek “Oy! You two get a different room for that!”
Ginny smirked at Ron and said, “Hermione’s downstairs with Mom. Those two failed to wake you up so they sent me. Remember Mom wants us to have breakfast together!”
Harry and Ron both nodded vaguely and. Harry looked at Ginny, ears still red, and stuttered, “Can you leave so I can change?’
Ginny smirked. “See you downstairs.”
Harry immediately jumped up and got dressed. He padded downstairs and walked into the kitchen to home cooked bacon and sausages, courtesy of Mrs. Weasley.
“Thanks, Mrs. Weasley,” Harry said as he tucked in. All of the Weasley family members were around the table eating and talking amongst themselves. Bill Weasley suddenly suggested, “How about a game of Quidditch!”
Silence descended. Fred used to love that sport. Mrs. Weasley quickly broke the tension and said, “What a lovely idea, Bill!”
Harry turned to Charlie and said, “I’d like Ginny on our team.” Charlie raised his eyebrow and smirked. “Do you really?”
Harry rolled his eyes. “Before you get any ideas, she was a chaser in my fifth year, and she’s quite good.”
“I know she’s good at Quidditch, but she was your chaser long before that.”
Harry turned bright red. Mrs. Weasley caught on and chided, “Whatever you’re teasing the poor boy about, leave him be.”
Soon the teams were decided and they played for a good hour or two. Only the post distracted them from the game. These days Harry was getting more then the usual amount of post. The ministry was checking letters to make sure that the post wasn’t cursed from angry Death Eaters or crazy fans who might sneak in a love charm.
The owls dropped some fan letters and several ministry mail, and one large package was dropped onto the table in front of Mrs. Weasley. She let out a pained smile.“That’ll be the new clock.”
After the war the hands on the Weasley clock had not moved away from mortal peril and after a few days the hand with Fred’s name and face had fallen off. Mrs. Weasley had cried all day and locked her self away. She had carried around that hand for weeks afterward. As soon as the new clock was hung, Harry stared at it. It looked much the same as the old one, but Harry quickly noticed there were now ten hands rather than eight.. One hand pointed at work for Mr. Weasley and the other nine pointed at home.
Harry was taken back at first. “You put Hermione and me on the clock.”
Mrs. Weasley looked over at him and smiled “Oh dear, you and Hermione are part of the family after all.” In a rush of gratitude Harry hugged her.
Soon afterward Harry, Ron and Hermione started to go through their mail. Harry tossed aside one piece of fan mail after another before he finally got to the Ministry’s letter. Harry opened one and read it out loud. “Dear Mr. Potter, you are truly an extraordinary young man. Having considered your amazing involvement in the war we would like to offer you a seat on the Wizengmot.”
Harry just shook his head in disbelief. “I’m not saying yes. The Ministry is still corrupt; I don’t want to be part of that.”
Harry turned his attention to another letter from the Ministry.
Dear Mr. Potter, I have been informed by one of my reputable sources that you would consider the position of an Auror with the Ministry of Magic. Due to the extraordinary circumstances we are willing to place you into a training course without the necessary grades. In your case, the practical experience is more than enough.”
Harry glared at the letter. “I don’t want a position in the Ministry, not until Kingsley’s been Minister for longer and has changed things. Besides, I don’t want anything handed to me just because I’m the chosen one.”
Hermione smiled. “Well Harry, that’s very mature of you.”
“You finally got through to me, after all these years,” Harry replied.
Hermione quickly scanned through the rest of the stuff and her eyes landed on a few letters from Hogwarts. She handed Harry and Ron their letters and opened hers.
“Dear Ms. Granger “
In the light of last year’s events, Hogwarts would like to welcome all of the seventh years of 1998 back to Hogwarts on the 1st of September so that they may finish their final year and achieve the qualifications necessary.
Although you may have received offers of employment, graduating with all of your qualifications will be essential to receiving promotions and advancing in your chosen career. Furthermore, Ms. Granger, if you do accept this invitation to return, I am proud to announce your appointment as Head Girl of your year.
Hermione looked up from her letter. “Well, what do you think? A Voldemort-free school year sounds good to me.” Harry and Ron voiced their agreement, and that settled it.
Hermione asked, “So have either of you been made Head Boy?”
Both of the boys shook their heads. Across the room, Ginny called, “Tthey’re making me repeat my sixth year too!”
Ron rolled his eyes. “Well we have to repeat our seventh year so it’s only fair.. Maybe we can finally have a normal year without the threat of Voldemort hanging over our heads.”
Malfoy Manor
Draco was sitting in his room. A lot had transpired in the last couple of years. He’d become a Death Eater to honor his family, and to gain power. He’d realized too late how very mistaken he was. When Voldemort tasked him with killing Dumbledore and letting Death Eaters inside Hogwarts, he knew he never should have joined them. He never liked most of those simpering students, but murder went beyond even his moral compass. At first he was willing to do the task, but then Voldemort threatened to kill his mother and father if he failed. Then he realized. His task was no expression of trust; it was a punishment. At the end he couldn’t do it, but Professor Snape had done it in his place.
When the Golden Trio was captured by Snatchers, he didn’t fully understand why he refused to identify Potter or Granger. He was then forced to watch the Mudblood being tortured. He’d always thought her beneath him, but hearing her pitiful screams made him realize that no one deserved to be tortured or killed because of their blood. Still, it confused him. Malfoys always thought about themselves, sometimes their family. At the end of the day he had settled on doing it out of humanity.
All of a sudden a house elf popped into the room and said, “Master Malfoy, the mistress has asked that you come downstairs for dinner.”
Draco sighed. “Please let my mother know that I’ll be downstairs in a few moments.” As Draco made his way down to the dining room he came across the room where he was forced to witness Granger being tortured.
Why was she affecting him so much? Why was she still on his mind? Sometimes he could barely sleep with the memory of her screams, but he shouldn’t care so much. He shrugged the feeling off and started to walk towards the dinning room. As he entered, he saw his Aunt Andromeda and his second cousin Teddy Tonks sitting in the dining room. After the war was over his mother had decided to reconcile with her sister. That decision alone had brought a huge argument between his father and mother, but at the end of the day his mother had won.
He was exchanging greetings with his aunt when Narcissa spoke. “Draco, you have a letter from Hogwarts.”
Draco slowly read the letter and his jaws slacked. “They made me Head Boy.”
Both his mother and father said, “Well done, Draco!”
Andromeda offered brief congratulations, but it was Teddy’s nap time so her goodbyes came in the same breath.
Narcissa said, “Please do come to visit us again.”
