Draco's mirror was dusty, it's edges were cracked and the reflection of his own broken soul every time he looked into it made him never want to see into another mirror. He scoffed at his own reflection as the morning sun of a crisp Tuesday in Autumn shown through his window, illuminating his dark circles and weathered skin. He stepped back on his heals and his floor creaked mockingly. It seemed his dank little room was falling apart and he felt like it might implode and suck his body, and all of his misery down into the floor with it.
4 years had passed since the war, and Draco was left abandoned and homeless when he refused to marry Astoria Greengrass. He had found refuge however in Hogwarts. McGonagall had grimaced when he'd shown up, but had taken pity on him, offering him a room and a teaching postion. They were short on teachers after all.
Draco was thankful for the housing and the food, but after growing up in a lavish home with every luxury imaginable it was hard for him to adjust to a dingy two-room bedroom in the teacher's housing quarter's for Hogwarts. He cursed the splintery dressers and always had to prepare for splash back from the sink, but the worst part was the loneliness. No one talked to him. Execpt his students of course, but it was hard to find comfort in 11 year olds taking their first year potion class.
It had been almost 4 years, and he still couldn't believe his parents would out right abandon him like that. But he knew why they did. He had humiliated Astoria and the Greengrass family by not proposing to her, and they had spread vicious rumors about him. Like that he fucked Dragons, and even worse... Mudbloods. Voldemort might have been dead, but to Malfoy's kind, muggle borns were still to be avoided. However, Lucius and Narcissa couldn't stand the idea of not being respected by other pure blood wizards and witches so they kicked their only son out onto the street.
He had been for the first time in his life, hungry, and truly alone. When he had come to Hogwarts, he was at first relieved not to feel his stomach growling, but the relief wore off soon enough as the realization hit him, no one here liked him. It would just be him and his reflection until the day the floor finally did open up and swallow him whole. And this made him relentlessly bitter, though he tried not to show it in front of his students.
His first class of the day seemed to start too early, and draco combed his hair back out of his face, threw on yesterday's robes and made it down for breakfast. He sat alone of course. He ate his breakfast with his head down, some of the teacher's like Trelawny wanted to comfort him, being as sweet natured as she was, but was scared of him. Everyone was. His family was part of the reason the wizarding world was in such grave danger.
He scoffed into his breakfast as Professor Ronald Weasley strutted by his table, giving him a sarcastic glance. Draco for the first time in almost a year made eye contact with him. With that Ron spoke up, obviously enjoying looking down at Draco.
"Ah, Mr. Malfoy, no one wants to sit with you?"
"I am more content sitting alone thank you" Draco replied shoving bacon into his mouth
"Oh no more girlfriend, no more family. Guess Karma really does come back around"
Draco shot Ron a look of contempt but tried to ignore him
"Huh? Not biting eh? Well, I guess I shouldn't bring it up, but maybe people like your bloody git ass might be more respected if they for example won a war validating their foul and twisted beliefs as that would be the only way for anyone else to ever pay you any attention-
"Shut it!" Draco snapped "You wouldn't have won that war, if I didn't pretend to not know who Harry is"
"How dare you say his name! He is a god compared to you"
"Piss off Weasle-bee, I'm trying to eat"
"Alright Draco, well if you see a flock of girls calling my name, just tell them, I will be in my room and to give me some notice before a good time, you'll do that for me, wontcha mate?" Ron laughed in Draco's face
Draco rolled his eyes, but continued eating. He hated to admit it, but he was actually pleased someone his own age had talked to him. Even if it was just to bring him down. No matter, he still had to keep his wits about him. Potions was starting.
********
Draco walked to his classroom but on the way there heard two of the female teacher's talking. They seemed to be gossiping about a familiar name. Draco slid behind a pillar to hear them better.
"Ah you've heard of Hermione Granger?" The blonde one said
"Magnolia!" The redhead responded "Of course, do you think I have lived under a rock?"
"Whatever Lee, apparently she has started herself up a little business. A coffee shop, you heard of that?
"No! But it sounds exotic, we should check it out!"
"I was thinking the same thing!"
Draco snaked past the two girls. "Hmm" He thought to himself "I believe I have heard of coffee before". He pictured Hermione in his mind trying to pour coffee and getting all over herself, and everywhere. It made him giggle. Maybe he would drop by after work, it couldn't be too far. It was probably in Diagon Alley".
*******
Hermione rung her hands. They hurt from all the scrubbing of dishes she'd been doing. She had been trying not to use magic as much as possible, since she ran a Muggle Coffee Shop. It was called 'Witch's Brew' but the Muggles just thought it was a clever name. They would never know that she sprinkled a little bit of liquid luck in the coffee buyer's who tipped or put serum of frog in the rude customers. That would stay a secret.
Hermione had moved to a Muggle town in London shortly after she had found out Ron's sudden fame caused him to cheat on her like crazy. Besides they had become two completely different people after the war, he was famous and while she was too, she was drinking every night to forget about what Bellatrix had done to her. And after the split she had decided she was finished with magic. 100 percent.
The sun was setting in her little shop, and the last of the people began to filter out. She had just began to prepare for closing when she heard an all too familiar voice and jumped.
"Excuse me, Miss. But do you know anyone by the name of Hermione"
The witch spun around. and she found herself face to face with Draco Malfoy
"Beat it Malfoy"
"Hey I was just ask-. Draco's mouth gaped. He was looking right at Hermione Granger. She looked so differet now. She was wearing makeup, and her hair was in a neat bun, she was wearing just an atrocity of an outfit, and she was wearing earrings.
"Merlin, Hermione what happened to you!"
Hermione glanced at Draco to see the shocked look on his face then let her gaze swing to the ground.
Draco sighed "Ah I see, not welcome here" He turned around and began to walk out
"Malfoy wait!" Hermione called, and the blond wizard almost too eagerly turned around
"Yes?"
"You could keep me company. I know this sounds so very bizarre, but I don't sense that you're trying to hurt me"
"On the contrary. I heard you had a Coffee Shop, and I wanted to see how it was"
"Well that's very nice of you, Mr. Malfoy" Hermione tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear "I will let you know that I am doing just fine. I work here, make a good living for me and my cat, and I get to enjoy the sun rise and sun set every morning and night".
Draco pulled a stool up to the counter where she stood. He nodded, and eyed her face. She looked so sweet. So innocent, and her smile. She was actually kind of pretty.
"So what's your story, Malfoy?"
******
Hermione seemed sad when Draco had finished telling the tired witch about his troubles, and he had joked that she might try to be a therapist, because she was so good at having people open up to her.
Hermione laughed and playfully punched Draco. It was the first time in a while he had felt a smile come across his face. He liked this feeling.
They talked for a good hour, then Hermione remembered she had to be home to feed her cat.
"Draco, I know this sounds weird coming from my mouth, but would you maybe like to swing by tomorrow, if you have time? It has been so long since I have had company"
Draco smirked "You called me Draco"
"Huh?"
"You never call me Draco, so we're friends now?" He smiled, a bit of sarcasm hanging from his tongue
"I wouldn't go that far. But I kind of enjoy talking to you. Besides maybe we could do some magic again. it has been ages since I have touched a wand"
"I bet" Draco smirked, Hermione rolling her eyes.
"I will see you tomorrow" He said, and Hermione smiled. Maybe having Draco Malfoy as a customer might be a good thing?
******
Draco returned back to his room, and hadn't noticed the goofy grin that hadn't left his face until he walked by the dreaded mirror of his room. And was reminded once more that he was alone. He quickly stripped to his underwear and flopped into bed. He couldn't get Hermione out of his mind. Maybe it was because she was the first person to be kind to him in a long time, or maybe it was something else.
He felt his cock become hard under his boxers. He hadn't felt like this since he was 18. He removed the throbbing member from his pants and began to stroke it. He thought of Hermione, her pretty eyes, her soft mouth, the way the slight bit of salt of her skin would taste. And she would smell like coffee grinds, intoxicating him, making him thrust into until... until.. until
Draco came. He felt a year of stress leave his body. He panted in his bed, but then realised something. He had just jerked off to a Mudblood. But maybe, she could help him, she did arouse him after all.
Her ran his fingers through his hair then heard a tapping at the window
it was an owl. With a note attached to it. He grasped it and read
Nice seeing you tonight
Tomorrow you should try some coffee, it's quite scrumptous
All the best,
Hermione Granger.
Oh he was going back. And he was damn sure, the coffee wasn't the reason why.
