Severus hated teaching and he hated children. He didn't really care for most of his colleagues either truth be told. Albus was an interfering old bastard with a superiority complex, Minerva though more tolerable, was a nosey old cat in her own right. Flitwick while quite skilled in his field was quite boring in every other respect, he didn't really know the others to speculate though Hagrid was one that he had some respect for though not the most intelligent, he had proved to be a good person in Severus’s eye, someone without ulterior motives which was rare. It was drawing near to the end of another year when the damned letters started coming addressed to him and signed anonymously.

Harry had begun to see his professor in a new light over the past few months, Harry was doing much better in potions as well. Oh, course the person that would notice is Hermione. Once back to the common room after classes one day she cornered him, "Ok what’s with Snape? she asked, and Harry’s face went as red as Ron's when he was mad. "It’s nothing Hermione, leave it alone" he responded. "Harry its obviously not nothing" She gave him a knowing look. "Fuck Hermione" He whispered. "I think I may be falling for him" He wouldn’t look at her knowing the shock that would be across her face. "It’s not like I can just walk up to a man that hated me for years and tell him how I feel." he said sadly. "Harry if you have feelings for him maybe you should write to him? I’ll show you how to make your handwriting different and you can say all the things you wish to anonymously " she put her hand on top of his. "Harry, everyone deserves to be happy and if you think you might have found something, go after it, even if it’s not in the conventual way" She smiled at him and he nodded.

The first letter arrived, and Severus barely skimmed it snorting in derision thinking it to be an ill-favored prank by a student or one of the other teachers as some kind of not so subtle hint about his lack of love life. It gets balled up and tossed into the fire with little thought and he continues on with his day as normal, tearing apart his student's essays with scathing comments printed in red ink as he sips his tea. He believes this will be the last he hears from the mysterious letter writer, oh how wrong he is.

Harrys first letter took him three days before he knew what to say. He didn’t want to spring it on Snape, he definitely wouldn’t accept it, definitely not from him. What fluttered though his mind the most - what if Snape wasn’t gay.... He decided to go with something short and sent it off, basically telling Snape that love wasn’t out of his reach if he wanted it. The letters continued and kept saying the same type of things but in different words. Harry found he was writing and sending a school owl to deliver it, pretty much every other day.

The little letters continue for a while driving Severus insane, the sender never uses the same owl twice and they must be using a spell to change their handwriting and erase any magical signature on them. This is what makes Severus suspect Albus. It's just the sort of trick he'd play. So, he grabs a handful of the letters and marches up to Dumbledore's office intent on ending this madness.

The door to Dumbledore’s office was flung open and he smiled with a sparkle, how the man did that no one would ever know. "Severus, my dear boy, what can I do for you? You look distressed" The headmaster said sitting in an armchair and ordering tea.

Severus frowns and dumps the handful of letters on the table beside the man “What you can do is explain what you mean by sending me these bloody notes. What are you thinking Albus? We have a war going on, it's not really the time the be concerning ourselves with love." He growls and finally sits taking a cup.

Dumbledore chuckles. "Someone has been sending you love letters?" He said reaching for one on the top. "Seems like to me, whoever is sending these loves you Severus. You should reply, see what happens, but I assure you that it was not me" he said sipping his tea after laying down the letter.

Severus frowns " I highly doubt that Headmaster. You swear you’re not the one sending them?" He asks looking suspiciously at the old man. " And if I were to reply it will be just to tell them to leave me bloody well alone." He snipes.

Dumbledore chuckled again, knowing that’s exactly what he would do. Dumbledore didn’t know who sent the letters, but he hoped for Severus's sake that they would keep coming.

Severus glares at Albus as he chuckles at him. And swears it’s not him " Well I’m going to find out who it is." He says

Dumbledore saw Severus was done with the conversation. "There is one more thing my dear boy" he said standing. "Harry will be staying here this summer and I would appreciate if you would keep an eye on him" Dumbledore peered over his glasses. "Just as you always have Severus." He said seriously.

Severus frowns," Giving the boy more special treatment then Albus?" He shakes his head. " As if the best head isn't big enough, but fine, I’ll keep an eye on him, from afar." He says.

"Severus, it’s much more than that. Had I known…" He trailed off his face going somber before perking up again. "Well, I know now, and Harry will stay here for all holidays and over the summer."

Severus shrugs. " I really don't want or need to know why he's here, Albus. I said I'd watch the brat and it's the best you'll get out of me, Good Day Albus. " He says and just like that stands, turns, and with his cloak whipping behind him exits the Headmasters office and returns to his quarters. He considered talking to Minerva next if he received more notes and perhaps replying to the next one, whoever thought this was funny was sorely wrong.
