Chapter Summary:
...And he hated Lucius at the moment for putting him on the spot like that.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A happy Friday to all of you, both those who came here from Lucius' Pet and those just joining us!!
**IMPORTANT FOR NEW READERS:** You MUST read Lucius' Pet for this to make any sense!!! As a reminder for everyone else: this starts within days of Chapter 18 of Lucius' Pet.
If everyone could give give a round of applause for my awesome, wonderful new beta-reader for everything "Pets" universe outside of the original: Musicluvs1226!!!
Reminder of the odd posting schedule this will have:
Chapter 2 will be up on the 27th (5 days); simply because it also takes place BEFORE chapter 19 of the original story. After the finale of Lucius' Pet is up (which should still be up at exactly midnight on the first!), there will be NO updates for at least one month. From there, updates to this will be posted based on relevance to The Sequel; either immediately after, if the events are related, or halfway between when they don't line up. So, for instance, Chapter 3 of this will be posted within an hour of Chapter 2 of Lucius' Pet "II". (I haven't decided if I'll be doing a final polish and getting both updates ready to post bam! bam!. Or take care of one completely and THEN the other. We'll see!!
Keep an eye out for text like this: {{words}} in chapter titles, summaries, and author's notes as that is how I will indicate where you need to be in which story to be reading in order. I also have other things in place to help smooth the way!!
Progress updates on the entire "Pets" universe:
I am almost 8 completed chapters into the Lucius' Pet Sequel and it's final length is looking closer to 20 now!!! AND I STILL have not quite reached the main conflict just yet. Page-wise, The Sequel is already just 4 short of being half the length of the first "book". And character-wise it's sitting at almost EXACTLY half.
Severus' Pet is still at 4 completed chapters, plus a bit more further down. Half as many chapters as the sequel so far, but it's ONLY 20 pages. In all honestly, I could have split these first 2 chapters into 3 or even 4, but I needed certain chapter titles to line up a certain way and I hope you all love it as much as I do!!!!!
And remember... Things are never what they seem.

Previously, on Chapter 18 of Lucius' Pet:
“Even with the promised reward, you [Harry] have not managed to get along with him for ONE whole day in two weeks. And I have had a SPLITTING headache every! Waking! Moment! I’ve been home for those entire two weeks.” Lucius took a minute to breathe. He then much more softly concluded, “and I think I know what needs to be done.”
Silver eyes regarded the youngest of the three men. “I’m sorry, Aster,” he genuinely apologized to the anxious looking teen. “I just can’t have you in the same house as Harry.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Severus anxiously straightened the cuff of his sleeve as he waited for the door chime he’d just rung to be answered. He released a frustrated breath and had to prevent himself from scurrying back to the gate somewhere behind him to apparate home.
Lucius was his best friend and he loved him dearly as such, but the man had been asking an awful lot of him lately. He wasn’t much of a people person and it was worse when it came to kids. Fifteen certainly may not have been a toddler, but it still fell under the upper end of “child”. And with how antagonistic this particular teenager sounded to be… Let’s just say Lucius being uncharacteristically worried about his pregnant Pet was the only thing that made him agree to this. The monetary compensation was just a bonus.
After what felt like a small eternity, the wooden portal finally creaked open and he was greeted, unsurprisingly, by Harry.
“Hi, Severus,” the eighteen-year-old said as he allowed the guest in.
“Afternoon, Harry,” he replied with a cordial smile and a polite nod as he crossed the threshold. The, clearly, freshly showered Pet then led the man down the hall.
Glancing over his shoulder as they walked, Harry nosily asked, “you ready for this?”
Severus took a small, calculated pause before he shrugged and said, “I wouldn’t be here if I weren’t.”
It didn’t take them long to reach the open door of Lucius’ study where the blonde was seated behind his desk reading a piece of parchment. He looked up when he heard the approaching footsteps and Severus had to suppress a scoff at the sight of him in his “reading” glasses. The man had been near-sighted for twenty-five years. It was time to accept the imperfection and just wear them when awake.
“Thank you, Pet,” Lucius murmured as the youngest of the three moved around the desk to stand next to his master.
Harry leaned close to him, and in a stage whisper, he tittered, “he’s rattled.” Severus’ dark eyes widened ever so slightly at the accurate declaration as they met silver.
“You can tell?” Lucius queried as he returned his attention to Harry.
Continuing with his theatrics, the pregnant, young man brought a finger to his lips, “shh, he doesn’t know I know.” Reverting to a normal speaking voice, he added, “this is Aster we’re talking about here, though.”
“Gee, thanks for the vote of confidence,” a new voice scornfully cut in.
Lucius could almost feel Harry inflate next to him as his Pet took a deep, angry breath in preparation to respond to the taunt. He clamped a hand over an open mouth before a sound could come out and carefully, but firmly, pulled the teen onto his lap.
Holding Harry tightly to chest his, back to front, he regarded his black-haired friend who’d taken a seat across from him. He gestured with his head to what he’d been previously going over. “Read that; sign it. I’ll be with you in a moment, apparently.”
Finally, Lucius met the emerald glare burning up at him. “You were doing so well yesterday; right up until bedtime. We are NOT doing this today.” The blonde man left no room for negotiation. He then waited for Harry’s expression to soften and his body to relax before releasing him.
Turning stern, silver eyes on Aster next, Lucius made sure the other teen also understood him before getting on with their planned day out. He took the document back from Severus and double-checked that all the “T”s were crossed and “I”s dotted.
“So, what’s first on the itinerary?” the dark-haired man questioned as he crossed one leg over the other.
Lucius began gathering together what he needed to take with them as he replied, “ministry to drop this off.” He held up a folder as he stood before motioning to Aster, still standing in the doorway, with it and adding, “also to get a red tag on him.” Which then allowed him to segue into, “by the way, Aster, this is Severus Snape; my actual best friend, regardless of what Tom may have told you.”
Hazel eyes widened in shock when the seated man stood from his chair and held out a hand for him to shake. He took it, but his own arm was about as firm as overcooked spaghetti.
Severus looked down at their stilling hands before meeting the fifteen-year-old’s eyes once more. “Let’s try that again, shall we?” he ordered in the form of a request to give him a chance for a reintroduction. “It’s nice to meet you, Aster.”
The olive-skinned boy seemed to snap out of it and managed to repeat the action to a much more satisfactory degree. “Yeah, you too. I do already know you though, just not by name. You were at some of Mr. Malfoy’s parties,” he politely, though a little nervously, replied.
“Yes, I know your face, as well.” Dark eyes looked Aster up and down once. “It’s nice to see you dressed for a change.”
Aster let out a sarcastic scoff. “It’s nice to be dressed for a change.”
Severus raised a brow in curiosity. The teen didn’t seem too bad so far, given the home he’d come from. Maybe he wouldn’t completely regret this by the time he was gone. “Lunch after that, I hope?” he returned to the previous topic with absolutely no preamble and his gaze to his friend.
Both Pets made various noises of agreement to that course of action and the group was on their way.
Half an hour later, they’d gotten everything squared away with Aster’s guardianship in Pet Regulations and the four men were huddled out of the way in the ministry atrium, attempting to agree on where to eat.
Between his money paying for the meal and Harry’s condition, Lucius was taking priority over what food his Pet wanted and his Pet was craving protein at the moment. Steak, burgers, pork chops; he wasn’t overly picky about it, he just wanted RED meat.
Aster on the other hand, seemed to be in the mood for literally anything else, but his stubborn, main vote was seafood. And Severus, he wasn’t paying for it, so he was staying out of it. He’d be able to work with whatever decision the other three inevitably came to.
Knowing the youngest of their small group was likely just provoking Harry, consciously or not, Lucius opened his mouth to shut his arguing down and demand he be more agreeable. “Aster-” He immediately cut himself off though. “No, wait. Severus,” he regarded his friend instead as he’d gleefully realized it wasn’t his responsibility anymore. “Do something about him.”
‘Well, shit.’ Severus had been hoping he wouldn’t have to actually take over until it was just the two of them. He could feel the silver eyes watching him with a small amount of amusement as he struggled with determining how to deal with the situation. This was very new to him. He’d never had a Pet. He’d never WANTED a Pet. And he hated Lucius at the moment for putting him on the spot like that.
On top of that, being a master now, albeit temporarily, meant having to present a certain image to Aster and he would be subverting his own authority if he were to just defer to the older man at this point. From what he understood, the younger teen would not fail to notice that, at least subconsciously, and he’d start poking at it.
Severus did have one idea that would potentially solve the problem, but still allow him to avoid actually having to act as master just yet.
“I know you might not be fond of dining in a muggle establishment,” the half-blood began his suggestion, “but a buffet-style restaurant would certainly satisfy everyone’s tastes.”
Lucius looked thoughtful for a moment before giving the black-haired man a teasing smirk and retorting, “we both know I have no muggle money. Are you offering to cover the cost then?”
Severus clicked his tongue at the jibe. “While having a connection to the muggle world does mean I keep some cash on me, it’s not enough to cover four of us. So, either way, an interlude at Gringotts means you can just as easily handle converting some coins,” he lengthily argued.
Harry looked back and forth between the two masters before playfully interrupting with a comment of his own. “Why do the two of you use such sophisticated, loquacious pronouncements for customarily informal conversation?” he teased them, exaggerating their speech pattern.
“Well, I can tell you he was born and raised that way,” Severus tittered as he waved toward the tall, blonde man.
“So, that just makes you impressionable, then?” Lucius countered with an impish grin; referencing the amount of time the two had spent together over the years.
Aster took it upon himself to get them back to their main topic. “Were we still getting food or not? I’m starving.”
“Same!” the other Pet announced.
Lucius observed the teens for a few seconds before looking back at his friend. Severus was currently dressed in a black turtleneck and crisp, dark blue jeans while he, himself, was wearing dress slacks and a button-up with a heavy cloak around his shoulders, so they’d both blend well enough. But the two youngest of their group, between their robes and collars, were much more conspicuous; on top of Harry being an obviously pregnant, teenage boy.
“We’ll need to use a notice-me-not charm on them before we leave Diagon Alley to avoid stares or worse, but I can admit that your suggestion is probably the best idea,” the blonde man eventually conceded.
The rest of the afternoon passed with relative ease and before Severus knew it, it was going on six o’clock in the evening and he was flooing home from Malfoy Manor. He immediately set the two large, shopping bags he was carrying on his well-loved couch across the room and then turned back to the fireplace to welcome his houseguest that would be following him through at any moment. The room glowed green as the fire flared almost instantaneously and Aster stepped out carrying two bags of his own.
“I hope you can make yourself comfortable here,” Severus said warmly as he gestured to his home in general. It was a nice place; clean, well-kept, though certainly not opulent.
After setting his bags with the others, Aster responded with a shrug, “I wasn’t at Harry’s long enough to get used to luxury anyway.”
Severus raised a curious brow at this statement. “That doesn’t make sense. I’ve met your previous master,” he perplexedly stated; knowing full well that Tom was a wealthy man.
Aster looked away from the dark, scrutinizing gaze on him. He really didn’t want to think about him or that place ever again, but he’d been addressed so he had to respond somehow. “Did… did he not tell you that I was surprised to get a bedroom there and then I cried when they showed it to me?”
Severus’ eyes widened at the subtle implications of his question. “No, unfortunately, Lucius forgot to mention that detail,” he murmured.
Awkward silence filled the room for a moment and it wasn’t broken until the Pet tried to clear his very dry throat. “I don’t suppose I could get some water?” he timidly requested.
“Of course,” the black-haired master replied as he headed toward a door; gesturing to be followed.
“I- wait…” Aster suddenly called. “Can I get it by myself?”
Understanding the anxious boy was asking for a brief moment alone as well as the refreshment, Severus nodded minutely and motioned for him to go ahead. Surely, a fifteen-year-old could figure out his way around a new kitchen without needing help.
Barely a minute later, the stillness of the house was broken by the sound of shattering glass. “Aster?” Severus worriedly called out.
Receiving nothing but scuffling noises in response, the man dropped the object he was holding back into the shopping bag it had come from and strode across his living room. “Aster?” he more forcefully repeated as he pushed the swinging door open.
A dark brow furrowed in confusion to find the kitchen empty. On the floor, lay the remains of what, obviously, used to be a drinking glass.
Thrice now, though this time confoundedly, “Aster?” He quickly checked the exterior door on the other side of the room, but it was still locked; as were all the windows. Next, he spun around to go check the pantry, but the door was already wide open. ‘What in the…?’ There was no other way out.
Once Severus finally stood motionless for long enough, he registered the sound of sniffling somewhere to his left. He followed it to the lower cupboard farthest from the door he’d entered through and crouched down before opening it.
Immediately, the cowering boy he found within flinched away from the light and began to ramble as fast as his lips allowed. “I’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorry. It was an accident and it was heavier than I expected and my hands were sweaty and I’m sorry. It was an accident. I’msorryI’msorryI’msorry…” The hysterical teen’s arms moved up to shield his head as his babbled apology devolved into hyperventilating.
Lucius did not mention anything even remotely like this and Severus didn’t know how he was supposed to handle such an overreaction. The one thing he did know, though, was that there wasn’t much he even could do until Aster calmed down enough to either speak or climb out of the small space; preferably both. The black-haired man sat all the way down and crossed his legs as he patiently waited.
Several very long, sob-filled minutes later, Aster’s breathing finally returned to somewhat normal; though the occasional sniffle, cough, or hiccup continued to escape him. He ever so slowly uncovered his face so he could see the man who was watching him.
Wide, hazel eyes met brown ones; dark enough they could have been black. He was obviously terrified, but it was his subtle confusion that really threw Severus for a loop. “Are you ready to come out?” he very, very carefully asked.
Aster responded with such a miniscule shake of his head, his hair didn’t even move.
“That’s okay,” the new master reassured him. “Is there anything I can do that might help?”
With a quivering lower lip, the young Pet uttered in the tiniest of whispers, “m-my head hurts.”
Still very unused to the situation, Severus whipped out his wand without a thought to summon a potion for headache relief only for Aster to violently recoil in fear again. He was so distracted by his own moment of stupidity that he almost didn’t catch the vial before it could zoom past him and shatter against the wall.
“I am so, very, sorry. It’s gone,” the middle-aged wizard murmured as he stowed his wand away. He uncorked the potion and set it down just inside the cabinet for the sandy-haired teen. “And I have no idea what I’m doing right now,” he admitted.
Aster silently drank the pain reliever and then returned the empty container back to where he’d taken it from.
“Better?” Severus queried.
“Yeah, thank you,” the Pet breathed. They both fell silent for a few moments until he ever so slowly began to shift forward.
Severus slid back a couple of feet so that Aster would have room to exit the cupboard. He watched as the boy trepidatiously peeked out at the mess still on the other side of the kitchen floor.
“Am… am I in trouble?” Aster cautiously asked; his gaze firmly fixed on the shards.
Wanting to make sure he understood correctly, Severus gently returned, “for dropping a glass?”
Fearful eyes finally looked at the older man again as he hoarsely whispered, “for bothering you.” What the fuck did that monster do to him?
“Aster,” Severus softly, but firmly, made sure he had his full attention. “I am not bothered by the sound of a shattered glass; I am only concerned by it. Especially in MY house.” He glanced at the broken glass and then back at the Pet. “I’m going to take my wand out again, okay?” The distraught teen’s breathing faltered a bit, but he nodded anyway.
“Okay,” the man inaudibly repeated as he very slowly got to his feet. He repaired the glass before picking it up and filling it halfway with the coldest water his sink could dispense. “Here.” He offered the original reason they were even in the kitchen to the still hiding boy.
With a slightly shaky hand, Aster took the drink and gratefully sipped it. He released a small sigh of relief and began to relax, even if only minutely. When he was done, he handed it back to the man crouched in front of him again.
Severus stood to move out of the way once more and began to feel immensely better himself when Aster finally climbed out. Any amount of progress was still progress.
“Do you need anything else?” the grown man kindly asked. “I know the two of you completely gorged yourselves at the buffet this afternoon, but are you hungry maybe? Tired?”
The last suggestion seemed to pique Aster’s interest. “I don’t know that I want to actually sleep…” he slowly and quietly began his reply, “but, um, if I could maybe lie down for a while?”
“Of course, of course,” Severus allowed. He led the teen back to the living room and then down the only hallway. Including the front door at the opposite end, there were seven total doors, all closed at the moment, and they stopped in front of the middle set.
“My room.” The dark-haired man gestured to the door on their right. “And yours.” Followed by its mirror. He could give Aster a real tour once he’d rested.
It wasn’t anywhere near as big or as elegant as the guest suite at Malfoy Manor, but it had all the necessities and was looked cozy enough.
Severus followed the Pet across the room to the twin size bed in a back corner and had to school his shock when Aster casually stripped down to his underwear on the way. “I’m more than willing to grant you a grace period to adapt to this change, but please try not to do that,” he softly said, though it was obviously a command, and averted his eyes until the teen was sitting under the covers.
“Right, sorry,” Aster murmured. An awkward silence stretched between them until Severus finally decided to just leave without a word before it could get any worse.
“Can I ask you a question?” a small voice piped up the moment the man was fully facing the opposite direction.
Severus turned back around to hear the query.
“Why, exactly, did you put so much emphasis on breaking glass in your house being concerning? Because that kinda concerns me…” Aster warily voiced his apprehension.
“Oh, I’m a Potions Master,” Severus proudly stated his accomplishment. “Breaking glass around here could be very, very… bad.” Perplexed, he then added, “Lucius didn’t tell you what I do?”
Sandy hair bounced as the teen shook his head. “No, Lucius did not. I just assumed you were rich like everyone else in his circle,” he said with a shrug. “This,” he gestured to the room general, “was a surprise.”
Impressed, Severus pointed out, “you called him by name.”
Hazel eyes widened in shock. “Did I? I guess… maybe because he’s not my master anymore?” he expressed his own surprise that he missed that himself. Severus responded with a warm smile.
“So… you’re a Potions Master,” Aster circled back. “And now I’m here. One more “Master” title and you’d be, like, a triple threat,” he cheekily deduced.
With a small smirk, Severus replied, “I will gladly accept that compliment.” His expression softening, he then said, “now, rest. If it starts to get too late, I’ll come get you for dinner and then give you the ‘grand’ tour.”
~!~
“Fucking. Finally,” an excited, exasperated, and familiar voice called as Severus entered his living room from the hallway; startling him. He glared at the blonde head in his fireplace as he recovered from the fright.
“Must you?” he groused as he raised a dark brow and changed his course to crouch in front of Lucius.
“I must,” the interloper deadpanned. “Now, where’ve you been?? I’ve been popping in every ten minutes or so for two hours yelling for you.”
Severus casually pointed at the floor. “My lab,” he replied. “You know I can’t hear anything from down there.”
Silver eyes rolled in their sockets at the answer. “I keep asking you to put a grate down there, at least for fire-calling,” he whinged.
“Potions, Lucius, I work with potions,” the black-haired man reminded him. “One spark, one ember, one slightly too hot piece of ash falling in the wrong cauldron, at the wrong time, and Boom! A week later you’re attending your best friend’s funeral and there’s so little left, they can bury me in a shoebox.”
Lucius rolled his eyes again. “We both know you’re far too good at what you do to let that happen. You’re just a pansy,” he insisted.
“No, I’m mortal,” Severus nearly snapped.
Picking up on the fact that his friend was not enjoying the flippancy his wellbeing was being treated with, Lucius changed the subject by asking, “where’s Aster? Shouldn’t he have heard me?”
A tiny, almost proud, smirk graced Severus’ lips. “Actually… he was downstairs with me.”
Platinum brows met an equally light hairline. “Really? How-” He interrupted himself with a shake of his head. “Wait, no, this is EXACTLY why I’ve been waiting for you. It’s been more than a week! I’m sending Harry over to keep Aster entertained for a few hours and also get him out of the Manor. And you are going to get your arse over here so I can find out how it’s been going,” the eager head in the fire all but ordered.
Severus looked up at the sound of approaching footsteps to see Aster had joined him from his pit stop in the bathroom. “We were just taking a break to get something to eat. Will you be providing food?” he queried as he returned his attention to Lucius.
For the third time in barely as many minutes, Lucius responded with a roll of his eyes. “No, I’m going to let you starv- Yes, there’ll be food. When have I ever not fed you?” he mockingly jeered. “Sometimes I’m surprise you’re not fat, for fuck’s sake, Sev.”
With a sardonic shake of his head, Severus said, “you know, a year ago, I was wondering how in Merlin’s name you could possibly stand having a seventeen-year-old who wasn’t your flesh and blood living with you.
“And now, I find myself asking: ‘how the fuck does Harry put up with your dramatic arse day in, day out?’”
Lucius huffed and ignored him. “Are you coming or not? Harry already made arrangements for… other activities if you said no or I couldn’t get ahold of you,” he demanded an answer to his invitation.
“I’ll be there in fifteen. You can send Harry through whenever,” Severus finally replied.
Once the fireplace was empty again, the man stood and regarded his guest. “How much of that did you actually catch?” he first asked so he would know how much really needed explaining.
With astounding accuracy, Aster replied, “you there, Harry here. I’m on my own for a late lunch. Stay out of your lab. Stay out of your room.”
Dark eyes widened slightly before narrowing and his whole head tilted in confusion. “Why, exactly, did Lucius give me the impression I would be housing a rabid weasel for six to eight weeks?”
Deadpan, Aster just shrugged at first. He quickly started giggling at the thought though, because, admittedly, he had been a bit of a twat while he was there. But it’s not like the other Pet didn’t give as good as he got. “I’m just gonna say… you didn’t have to see Harry and I living in the same house.”
Ten minutes later, Severus had cleaned himself up, changed his clothes, and was ready to be on his way. He walked back into the living room to find Harry already sitting with Aster on the couch.
“I trust you boys can stay out of trouble for a few hours,” the man said as he straightened his sweater.
“Yes, Severus.”
“Yes, Sir,” the Pets chorused.
With a nod of approval, Severus replied, “good. As long as you’re both still breathing when I return…”
Harry’s head dramatically swiveled to glare at the smirking, older man before swinging back toward Aster. “Which one of us is supposed to be offended by that?” The moment he saw the other Pet’s mouth drop open to respond though, he thought better of it and cut him off. “Never mind; don’t answer that,” he muttered with a shake of both a hand and his head to nip the impending squabble in the bud.
Severus procured a pinch of floo powder from a wide-mouthed vase on the mantle. He threw it in the fire, stepped in, and loudly enunciated his destination. The last thing he heard before being whooshed away in a rush of green flame was Aster’s overlapping, haughty reply of, “you’re right, it goes without saying he meant you.”
A few seconds later, dark eyes reopened to the sight of the entrance hall to Malfoy Manor. On the left of his periphery, his host was casually leaning against the wall at the mouth of the hallway, waiting for him.
“If I, somehow, can’t get the blood out of my living room carpet myself, I’m sending you the bill for replacing it,” he grumbled sardonically as they began toward the drawing room together. He answered the silent, ‘wait, what?’ in Lucius’ eyes with, “Aster just immediately started winding Harry up to make a point after I told them not to kill each other. They’ll be fine.”
They soon entered the room they’d be spending the afternoon in and Severus’ face fell at the sight of the serving tray placed on the coffee table in front of their usual couch. He paused to stare disappointedly down at the refreshments.
Lucius took his seat at one end of the sofa and picked up a glass of bourbon he’d already poured for himself from the same table. Noticing his friend’s stillness in the process, he examined his expression before heckling, “what were you expecting? An entire roast duck?”
Severus slowly lifted his head to regard the blonde man before raising both hands and sarcastically glancing and gesturing around the elegant home.
“Oh, just sit down, Severus.” Lucius put his glass back where he’d gotten it from and called, “Dobby!”
A loud pop filled the air and then a squeaking voiced said, “yes, Master Malfoy, sir?”
Lucius looked at his friend and motioned to the house-elf. “Tell him what you want,” he sighed dramatically before leaning forward to pick up his tumbler again; as well as a scone from the platter.
Severus’ gaze darted back and forth between them a few times. “Why do you do that? I can’t just… ugh,” he groused at being put in that position.
“Does Master Severus want something else to eat, sir?” Dobby happily asked the guest.
Black eyes moved from the servant, to the snacks, and then up to glare at the blonde. “Nothing extravagant,” he finally relented as he regarded the elf once more. He waved at the tray. “But anything heavier than finger sandwiches and scones will satisfy me.”
Dobby nodded at the vague reply. “Yes, sir,” he chirped before disappearing with another crack.
Severus finally picked up the glass waiting for him on his end of the coffee table. “My usual?”
“One part fire-whiskey, two any other,” Lucius replied with a roll of silver eyes. “Unless it changed at some point in the last twenty years, why do you always feel the need to ask that?”
The dark-haired man ignored him for a moment to sip at his drink. “I thought I was here to satiate your need for gossip?” he finally questioned.
Lucius had no problem cutting directly to the chase. “Yes. First things first, what does he call you? I can’t imagine you’d be comfortable with ‘Master’ under such temporary circumstances.”
“And you would be correct,” Severus tittered. He then detailed, “‘sir’ ended up being the only thing we could agree on. Aster suggested ‘Mr. Snape’ the way you suggested ‘Mr. Malfoy’ for him, but I hate that more than I hated ‘Professor’, in all honesty. And obviously my given name was out of the question.”
“Hmm?” the blonde wizard vocalized his curiosity.
Tumbler almost at his lips, Severus paused in his action to ask, “What?”
“It’s just surprising,” Lucius vaguely expanded upon his previous noise.
“Oh, my- what is surprising, Lucius,” the other man whinged before finally taking another drink.
“That you don’t like the idea of him calling you ‘Professor’,” came the cheeky reply.
Severus nearly choked on his whiskey as he sputtered into the glass. Glaring at his friend the entire time, he quickly used his wand to clean the spilled alcohol from his face, hand and clothing. “Why?” he hoarsely asked when he was done. “He’s fifteen.”
“I’m aware you don’t typically prefer people that young; all I meant was it surprised me that you aren’t into that roleplay fantasy.” Lucius took note of the red slowly creeping up Severus’ neck from the correction he’d just made. He looked up at his face to see the awkwardness on it.
“Holy shit, Sev… you are, aren’t you?” he practically threw his nearly empty glass back on the table so he wouldn’t have to focus on remembering to hold on it in his excitement. “You are and you hadn’t actually made THAT connection yet! Oooooh…” Lucius trailed off and glanced down at Severus’ crotch. “I didn’t just cause a problem, did I?” He didn’t sound nearly as concerned by that as he should have been.
The now extraordinarily conflicted man took a single, deep breath through his nose. “If you did…” His dark eyes flicked up to meet Lucius’ as he half-joked, “…you had better start sleeping with one eye open, my friend.”
