Author's note: If you like this I will write the other part. It would be Sev. telling Draco about Lucius’ first ’session’.
’Father?’
’Yes, Draco?’
’ Tell me more about him. What happened between you two?’ Draco Malfoy sat beside his father’s desk, looking over the stacks of books at the older man’s face. Lucius Malfoy’s study was always cluttered with items from the extensive library in the manor. Draco had barely seen his father leave the study since his arrival from school for Christmas.
Tonight Lucius sat by the fire, behind his desk, hidden from his wife. He had grown annoyed with the woman. He poured two glasses of deep red wine and placed one in front of his son. ’ Sixteen. Your old enough, you’ll need this.’ Lucius sipped slowly from his own glass and set it down on the dark wood in front of him.
’ We called him the Red Death. He reminded us all of a passage from a muggle story written years ago. The ’Red Death’ had long devastated the country. No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or so hideous. Blood was its Avatar and its seal the redness and the horror of blood. There were sharp pains, and a sudden dizziness, and then the profuse bleeding at the pores, with dissolution. The scarlet stains upon the body and especially upon the face of the victim, were the pest ban which shut him out from the aid and from the sympathy of his fellow-men. And the whole seizure, progress, and termination of the disease, were the incidents of half an hour.’ Lucius Malfoy closed his silver eyes and rubbed his temples. Draco studied his father closely, unsure of what he might hear this night.
‘ I had the pleasure of being a witness to the first of his sessions. He was then there to witness my first. I had dragged him into it. Something I don’t regret. He was the worst of us all. Even at that time no one would have faced him. No one would have been in my position. The position I allowed myself to be in.
’ It was in this house. We were both your age. It was long ago but I can still remember it clearly. I can still see the body where it lay, trembling from fear. The blood staining all that was once white red.’ Lucius paused to sip the wine. ’ The stains have been gone for quite some time now.’
’ What room was it? How did it happen? What was done that night?’ Draco Malfoy pushed for more information. His father would slowly come around to telling him the entire story. Just a little more wine and some more questioning was all it would take. Draco would have what he was looking for.
’ Patience Draco. One thing at a time.’ Lucius smiled at his son. ’ I had invited him to join my family for the Holiday. He accepted. Severus would never turn me down. He knew better than that. I had plans for us. Big plans.
’ You see, there was a guest staying with my family at the same time. Lord Voldemort was paying my family a visit. He had been urging them to get me to join him. I decided quickly that I would follow him. In doing this I took the only man I called a friend with me. Severus protested a bit, but none of that lasted long’ Lucius laughed softly.
’ Severus agreed to jump in with me. The first step was proving ourselves loyal. That was not an easy task. Not for two stubborn sixteen year old boys. Severus was to be first because there was doubt about his ability. We were taken into one of the rooms in this manor. The room was at that time entirely white. The thick ivory carpet touched matching walls and the windows were elegantly covered by snowy velvet. A few chairs of a stiff white fabric decorated the room and in one corner was a tall grandfather clock. It, unlike all the other furniture, was black.
‘The hands and numbers scattered about the face were gold. I remember the clock well. We threw it out not long ago. It marked the hour with a low, muffled thud. Much like the beating of a human heart.‘ Lucius Malfoy sighed, leaning back in his chair. The wine had begun to go to his head and his thoughts were jumbled. He did not remember much of what had happened anymore. onl only remembered the feelings, smells and sounds.
‘ Father? Are you all right?‘ Draco tilted his head, blond hair falling into his eyes. Lucius smiled and brushed the stray locks away with his hand gently.
‘ Yes. I am now. Draco have you ever heard the scream of a condemned man?‘ Lucius leaned forward, elbows resting on the desk.
‘ No, father. I haven‘t.‘ Draco replied, his voice shaking slightly.
‘ You will. It is the most thrilling sound you will ever hear. When a dying man screams it contains all the fear, pain and defeat within the frail and useless body. He knows there is no hope for him, yet he screams still. Willing someone to hear him and save him from the fate he must soon face.
‘ And now was acknowledged the presence of the Red Death. He had come like a thief in the night. And one by one dropped the revelers in the blood-bedewed halls of their revel, and died each in the despairing posture of is fall. And the chime of the ebony clock went out with that of the last of the gay. And the flames of the tripods expired. And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all.’ Lucius sipped again at the wine, forcing old memories away. It still was not enough for his young son.
’ Father, you still have not told me what happened between the two of you that night.’ Draco frowned childishly. Lucius fought the urge to slap the frown from the angelic face before him. He tried hard not to raise a hand to the boy, but Draco had brought it on himself many times.
’ That night Severus and I made love for the first, and last, time. Now you must go off to bed. It is much too late for you to be down here. Goodnight Draco.’ Lucius ushered his son out the door impatiently.
’ Goodnight father.’ Draco replied, turning back to once again look at the older man. Draco shook his head as the door closed behind him. //That couldn’t have been a tear that I saw in his eyes.// The young boy thought to himself as he headed off for bed.
