I feel I must start on a serious note and offer my heartfelt condolences to you and your partner, Trickie, for the loss of your beautiful little boy. There are no words that can take the pain away of losing a child and time only takes the edge off pain, it does not take it away. I began writing my first story as a way of filling the emptiness of my own loss. I lost my twins in-utero, there was nothing they could do to save them. A few years later and my daughter decided to come 9 weeks early and I spent the next 7 weeks wondering if I would have a baby to take home at all, she 'died' twice the first week she was in the neonatal ICU. I know this does not compare to what you have had to deal with but I wanted you to know my condolences were sincere.

For the story (and a little lightening up) - Oh I do hope Snape is going to help Neville to stand up for himself even though I know it would probably be better coming from Vivienne. I'm glad she had the kind of dad who could teach her how to defend herself, not every kid is that lucky. And hearing Snape confess of his own dealings, wow, never thought I'd hear him admit to that. It shows their level of intimacy is deepening. I like how he steered Vivienne away from Sirius too, probably a good idea. LOL And finally whatever's in that cinnamon scented oil - I want some. LOL

And in conversation, - Thank you for letting me know roughly whereabout's you're situated, Trickie. It's funny how the North and South consider the state of Maryland to be at such a contradictory place. I guess that's what the Civil War does for your culture. If it's not a personal question, do you and FB know eachother through living in the same state of the fact of your army background? (neither of you have to answer that) The closest I come to military is my brother who is ex Navy. I certainly haven't travelled around as much as you both obviously have. And OUCH on the Ben Gay even more now that I know I guessed right. No-one would blame you for swearing like a trooper!

FB, in my eyes, your potrayal of Vivienne is more than fine, she's good at what she does but she is not perfect, she has her faults and that is what makes her believable. :)

I didn't like Dogma, I only sat through it because Alan was in it and he was the only thing worth watching even though I do like Ben Afleck and Matt Damon in other movies. I agree, sex personified in Prince of Thieves, I wouldn't have said no to him. LOL And I have no doubt that voice could bring a woman to orgasm, none whatsoever. *grins*

I have never seen Something the Lord Made and I doubt I could sit through it without going through half a dozen boxes of tissues either. People like Doctor Blaylock are the real heroes in my eyes (meaning no disrespect to the wonderful men and women who give their lives for their country and their loved ones) - I just think these people deserve more credit then the acting and sporting icons do).

I love French pastries and Severus obviously loves both kinds of French pastries. Woinderfully arousing smut! I'd sure would have preferred the lubricant he brewed to the Ben Gay I got that night.
I like 'Hell's Bells and hand grenades', it's awfully clean for an Armyism; all the ones I know are totally profane and use the F word.

I loved 'Something the Lord Made' too. Rickman was marvelous as Dr. Blaylock. I can remember many times as I grew up seeing stories in the Baltimore Sun and the Baltimore News Post about Dr. Blaylock and the blue babies he had operated on. He was considered a real hero in the city.

The movie spoke personally to me; I met both Helen Taussig and Vivien Thomas at the Pediatric Cardiology Clinic at Johns Hopkins Hospital, but Dr. Blaylock had died a few years before. My son was born at Hopkins with a serious heart defect and was a patient in the Pediatric Cardiology Clinic from birth. Unfortunately, he didn't survive the corrective surgery and died a week after the operation, 11 days before his second birthday. Today they use a heart lung transplant to correct that defect and the survival rate is somewhat better, but it's still far from a sure thing.

He has some of my favorite lines in that movie. What I thought was funny is that I've always thought he could talk a woman into an orgasm, but there, they have him tell her she's pregnant and so it is. lol

It is definitely another world. It's a definite urban to rural switch just crossing the bridge.

That sounds about right, and they're usually little guys too. Ones with Napoleon complexes. But I can't say much, thanks to the Army lifestyle, I can do a few blue streaks myself. I think my favorite Armyism of all time is "hell's bells and hand grenades"--makes me snort into my pumpkin juice every time.

Glad you enjoyed 'A More Merciful Man', I was sure you would. I know you'll like 'Wolf's Moon' too.

Someone in casting knew the effect his voice has on women and utilized that. Very funny. That said, Prince of Thieves and Die Hard do tend to leave me rooting for the bad guy."
I loved him in Dogma too, even though the costume designer tried to make him as genserless as a ken doll. Have you ever seen a picture of him wearith the prothesis they made for him to wear under his costume? He was the only reason to watch 'RH:PoT'. His Sheriff of Nottingham was sex personified. I also agree with you about 'Diehard', Hans Gruber had a lot more appeal than Bruce Willis.

When I suggested he put some of that on it, he gave me a few choice (Army approved) words. He's very fond of the f-bomb, which I think is military standard jargon these days.

The Ben Gay is no joke, I understand completely how your stepfather feels. I've also learned to never let a man touch you amorously after he has shaved until he has washed his hands several times or scrubbed them with a nail brush.

When we were stationed in Mainz, Germany I worked in the Ed Center at Lee Barracks, an infantry kaserne (base). The window behind my desk opened onto a courtyard 3 floors down when an infantry company har formations 3 times a day, morning, noon, and retreat. "A More Merciful Man" was fantastic. I loved the humor and wit in her/his writing and how well Snape was kept in character. that was loverly. I have yet to read "Wolf Moon," as it was the other took me a couple of days. More importantly, back to school has reared its ugly head so I want to finish this story in the next week or so. Deadline comes... and more lovely lemons.

Dreamweaver, the Mason Dixon Line is the state line between Maryland where I live and Pennsylvania, which is directly north. I was surveyed about ten years before the Revolutionary War and has been considered the symbolic boundary between the North and the South for well over 200 years.

Maryland is really neither a northern or a southern state, people in the North consider it the northernmost southern state, while Southerners think of it as the southernmost Yankee state. The Eastern Shore is an entity of it's own; Femme Bono can tell you about that since she went to college there. Southern Maryland used to be very southern and nothing but tobacco farms; it's now more or less a suburb of Washington,DC and Maryland tobacco is almost nonexistent, thank goodness. Central Maryland is cosmopolitan and the corridor between Washington, Baltimore, and Philadelphia is densely populated. Western Maryland is less rural than it used to be but is still mainly rural. Though I live in the western part of Central Maryland, I live in a rural pocket that is one of the most rural areas in the state and I hope it stays that way for my lifetime, at least.

That is exactly what Ben Gay is.

Way to take control, Vivienne. Hee hee! Good to keep Severus from thinking he was in total charge. LOL I like that they talked about their pasts although, of course, you leave me wanting to know something else and know the identity of the one who was taken from him. I wonder if you'll go by the books or by your own imaginings...... :)

Re FB and Trickie - Goodness, what a catchup! I'm glad I didn't say anything offensive, I always worry that I might. The part of the country you live in sounds beautiful, Trickie. I've even heard of where you live seeing as I'm Australian and not well versed in a lot of American history and places. (I'll have to look up where the Mason Dixon line is though). LOL I've come to the conclusion that a lot of people working in the theatrical industry are either bi, gay or a lot better at acting than I thought. LOL I suppose it helps to be flexible with that lifestyle. Always knew there was a good reason that I'd make a lousy actor. LOL Although I have to admit I've seen Alan play Col. Brandon and he was ever so delish in that movie, (so was Colin) I'm not much of a chick flick fan (as I call romances). I like action and sci fi so I first fell madly in lust with Mr Rickman when he was in the movie Die Hard. THAT VOICE!!! (now I'm swooning - LOL) I lusted after him in Prince of Theives too. It's nice to know you both agree with me about Snape's demise in the book. What was with that???? I like to think he might just have made it out alive too and that's why his portrait isn't in the head's office. It would have been great to see him fighting it out at the end, he would have taken down far more death eaters than expected, I'm sure. If he had to die, he should have gone down fighting in my humble opinion. (not that I wanted him to die) And yes, he can always live on in fanficdom. Thank Merlin!! And I agree with you, FB, she showed all this promise for Draco, it seemed like he was growing up a bit and then he went right back to the bullying child like state of the earlier books - annoyed much!

If Ben Gay is what I think it is (a type of deep heat linament for sore muscles) then, no, you don't have to paint me a picture - you poor thing!! Let's hope that's not what Snapey has added to his potion in the story, hey? LOL

It does seem that they are in love with each other now, they also feel very protective towards each other. Lovely lemon , BTW, now I will be imaning what happened the rest of that evening throughout the rest of my evening.

You stopped it right where I was expecting another passionate encounter to occur. I'm waiting impatiently for the next chapter.

That blew me away too, right at the key moment when he should have tipped his cards and wound up fighting an outright battle. I was aching to see him in full-on battle mode and I never got to see it. I felt robbed.

That really upset me too. If he had to die it should have happened after he made his true allegiance known and was fighting alongside the other Order members to bring down 'HW' amd his Deathea Eaters. (Voldemort and his Death eaters sound like a Kiss type of rock band crossed with Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons) Like you, I wanted to see him in full battle mode. I think she avoided showing him that way because it was pretty obvious that nobody could have taken him down once he was able to fight openly for his beliefs.

I still believe that he had a bezoar, a universal antidote, and an antivenin to Nagini's venom concealed on his person and that she left enough ends untied that he survived and left the Wizarding World until he felt comfortable to return, but I'm unsure if that time ever came. "Wolf's Moon' is one of my favorite Snape survives stories and it has that kind of plot.

I agree about Col. Brandon. When I saw Rickman in that role I realized he was romantic as well as very sexy, that's when my infatuation with him began.

I live exactly 7 miles below the Mason Dixon line and 35 miles SE of Gettysburg. This part of Maryland was filled with Yankee sentiments during the Civil War, but much of the attitude around here is very much like the rural south, after all this is a very rural and pastoral area. Now that I've learned to use our newest digital camera I've been taking pictures of the countryside and of the new foals since April; I'll have to send them to you so you can see the beauty of the area. I love this camera because it's so easy to use, all I have to do is point and click.

Dreamweaver, I havn't seen anything in what you've said that cou;d be construed as offensive. I now live in a very rural area deep in John Deere country and filled with horse and dairy farms and I haven't come across any people that I know are gay. But theses people keep their private lives to themselves and they are friendly and helpful enough that they attach a snowplow to their John Deere tractors in the winter and plow our driveway and those of our neighbors. It seems to be a different one each time and I only recognize a few of them by sight and never by name.

I used to be very active in musical theater and that's where I met most of my gay friends. Well there, and a few at places where I worked.

A friend of mine convinced me to read Harry Potter and I read the first 4 during the time they cast and then filmed the first movie. When I heard that Rickman had been cast as Snape I thought it was perfect casring. I had vaguely thought about it before, but when I heard that I knew that nobody else could do that part. It's like Colin Firth with Mr Darcy, those actors own those parts and anybody else would be a dissapointment in the roles.

There is also no way a wizard brave enough and smart enough to con 'He Who I Find Most Tedious and Tiresome' would go through the years after 'HW's return without having a bezoar, a universal antidote, and an antivenin to Nagini's venom concealed on his person at all times. It was doubtful that anybody would ever get him with an AK, but treachery and poison were strong possibilities. Since she left all the string of what really happened to his body untied, I feel that he overcame her plans for him nd actually survived. He certainly lives on in fan fic.

There is something worse than those peppers, Ben Gay. I'll let you figure out what happened the night that was accidentally picked up in the dark instead of the KY. Suffice to say, he was cut off for sometime. He used to have Snape-like stamina and staying power, but he wasn't allowed to exercise it again after that until I once more allowed it. He a;so threw the Ben Gay out and never bought another tube.

I haven't come across a lot of gay people where I am right now but to each his (or her) own after all but of course they feel love exactly the same way hetros do. I just never thought of Dumbledore like that, but it was brilliant that JKR added that diversity to her characters and rightly so. I agree completely, Trickie, that Narcissa's redemption was for Draco and that she didn't want her son to become just like his father and Lucius did deserve to be punished properly in the books. (In fan fiction, well, that's another matter entirely which is as it should be - they are such 'fun' characters to manipulate, er play with) Jason Issaccs did a brilliant job of Lucius and I agree, he brought the bad boy to life. I love your theory, FB, that Draco should have gone the way Snape did, just in enough to realise it was wrong, cause some internal damage and get out again (well at least, try to). Kingsley would have been a great match for a newly single Narcissa, I love the idea of that and I nearly fell out of my chair laughing at the thought of her bringing home a much younger muggle boyfriend. Hey, there's a great story in that, I'm sure. :)

Can't say that Harry was ever a real favourite of mine. I liked the characters that you just knew were going to develop into something more or you knew couldn't be taken at face value. That was why Snape, Neville and Ginny were always my favourites with Luna joining in later on. I wish she'd developed Ginny's character more too but really I had very few complaints about the whole series.

Thanks a lot. I keep feeling the muse tapping, so I'll keep turning out the chapters as long as it keeps flowing. I've only gotten stuck momentarily thus far, but I know where I want them to go. It's just a matter of getting them there.

And I've got to say, Jason Isaacs is a tasty dish, but he's no Alan Rickman. I care not if the man is old enough to be my dad.

Funny story about Snape's speech. I had cast Alan Rickman as Snape before they ever did for the movies. He's just who I pictured because I could see him saying all those things so well. So for me, from that first grand entrance when he caressed those words in his speech, I just knew I had been right and I was glad they decided on him. He rocks that role. It was almost orgasmic. But that's Alan Rickman.

Snape I have loved equally as long and the more I found out about the Marauders, the more I felt for him, so ditto all of that. I just don't have a husband to reap the benefits of it. But yeah, I've never doubted him. Just got more frustrated with Harry as it went along. By the fifth book I could have strangled the hapless little twerp.

I do have a soft spot for Neville though. My sis likes Luna more and even dressed up as her for the Goblet of Fire when it came out. Then she was Tonks for the Order of the Phoenix.

You're right about Jason Issacs, he makes Lucius totally despicable. Yet he also manages to give him a bad boy appeal, but I think that's because he enjoys the role and plays it to the hilt. It's also because he's Jason Issacs and can't help but be appealing, though not as much as Rickman's Snape appeals.

Snape was my favorite character from the time I read his speech to the first years' in their first potions class. By the end PS/SS when I found out that he had been protecting Harry I was sure he was one of the good guys and I never lost that feeling, it just kept getting stronger as I found out more about his childhood and his days as a student. I wouldn't say I am infatuated with him, I'd say it's more that I'm obssessed with him and my husband reaps all the benefit of the Snape smut I read so he doesn't mind how much Snape fan fic I read.

You're both very right about the books being written from Harry's viewpoint. I'm sure he was seen much more sympathectically by many of the adults before he became headmaster; once that happened he had to make them hate him to keep his cover and protect the students. Most of the faculty and the staff had known him since he was 11. I'm sure Poppy knew almost as much about him as Dumbledore did, she took care of the childhood injuries inflicted by his father and the marauders and then after he became a spy she cared for his injuries when he returned from a summons to 'He Who I Find Most Tedious and Tiresome'. I'm sure she had motherly feelings for him. I think Minerva did too and she must have felt as remorseful as Harry did once she saw, or was at least told, his memories.

I lost interest in Harry as my interest grew in Snape, but I was pleased to find that he felt enough remorse about the disrespect and distrust he showed Snape that he felt he had to vindicate him in everyone's eyes. The only young characters I developed a real interest in were Neville and Luna. I have a soft spot for Neville and my guilty pleasure is Snape/Luna stories.
